Weekend Box Office

By
* “Imagine Me & You“: “” Chick-version (yes, lesbians). As my mom (who saw it) said, “Eeuuw.” Skip it.
* “Annapolis“: “An Officer and a Gentleman” LITE . . . Very Lite (and minus the sex scenes–none in this movie–but plus a whole lot of boxing scenes). This movie is time wasted, and that’s not patriotic.

James Franco and Jordana Brewster of “Annapolis”

Features platinum-record singer Tyrese Gibson (a/k/a “Tyrese”) as a low-rate Louis Gossett, Jr. This has a 21st century twist: Instead of a Deborah Winger girlfriend looking to be rescued, the female love interest (Jordana Brewster, the beautiful cross between Demi Moore and Ali McGraw, who is the real-life granddaughter of a Yale president and daughter of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model) is the feminist NOW version: She’s the more senior officer to lead James Franco, the handsome Jewish actor whom I liked in “” and “”. Good-looking actors, terrible script. Also co-starring Old Kid on the Block, Donnie Wahlberg (yuck).
If I were Asian or Black, I’d especially dislike this movie. The Asian in this movie is a goody two-shoes, tattle-tale perfectionist. The two Black characters are an unforgiving, tight-ass officer and an overweight failure.
* “Bubble“: Just plain dreadful. Do you like watching a slow, boring movie about people in West Virginia working in a factory and leading depressing lives in trailers? Me neither–not an elitist view, given that movies are supposed to be an escape, and West Virginia factory workers would want to escape this movie as much as I did. The use of dull, ordinary hicks instead of real, glamorous actors doesn’t help. Hardly a murder mystery thriller as it is billed. In fact, that comes at the end of the movie and is never developed.
I’m sure noblesse oblige liberal critics will love it–seeing some non-existent “inner beauty” or “depth” to this celluloid time-waster. The emperor (or film-maker) wears no clothing.
This movie has been getting a lot of hype because my “friend”, billionaire , chose this as his first “simultaneous” (not really) DVD/moviehouse release. If this is the type of movie he thinks will put moviehouses out of business, he needs to stop smoking Mary Jane. Anyone rushing to buy this DVD is a fool. Likely more on this in an upcoming column.

Palestinian Mommy Dearest: MUST WATCH VIDEO

By
WATCH THIS CHILLING ABC News video about Palestinian Mommy Dearest Maryam Farahat (also spelled “Mariam” Farahat and “Mariam Farhat”), a/k/a “Um Nidal” (Mother of the Struggle). (Has brief “hot potato” ad first.)
Farahat, HAMAS’ newly elected female member of the Palestinian parliament, is even uglier on the inside than she is on the outside. She sent 3 of her 6 sons to die in homicide missions, trained them to kill Jews (on video), and vows to send the other 3.

Palestinian Mommy Dearest: Um Nidal a/k/a Maryam Farahat

The San Francisco Chronicle quotes the father of one of her kids’ victims:

“The mother who sent her son to kill my son was elected today as a member of parliament in Gaza,” said Avi Zana, whose son Ariel was killed in an attack by the son of Maryam Farahat, elected to represent Hamas.

As late Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said, “Peace will come only when Palestinians love their children more than they hate Jews.” Don’t hold your breath for that day.

HOprah Watch: Hypocrite Oprah is The Real Super-Duper Duper

By
It was a little hilarious to watch Oprah get all self-righteous and indignant, today, on her show about fabricating author James Frey (Michelle Malkin has the video). She says she’s “embarrassed,” that she was “duped” into choosing his phony book for her way-too-influential book club (but didn’t withdraw her endorsement of the fraudulent book).
But Ms. Thang of Daytime has repeatedly tried to dupe her viewers and readers around the world about radical Islam and terrorism. And don’t forget . And that .
That’s why I own OprahSucks.com. She does. Big-time.

Brokeback Everything Now Pervades Pop Culture

By
We used the term “” to describe Ford Motor Company’s waffling on whether or not to advertise in gay media. Now, USA Today has stories on the “Brokeback” phenomenon now pervading all of pop culture and the Brokeback humor. These “residuals” from the movie “” are not a great development.
Our favorite, however, is this “Boondocks” cartoon, which we think says it all about the defining deviancy down in masculinity. Also, not a good thing.

Black Cherry Vanilla Coke Rolls Out

By
We’re pop (you call it “soda”) connoisseurs, and to try new, exotic flavors–especially if it’s Coke (except “New Coke”).
Last year, we detailed the coming this year. Black Cherry Vanilla Coke and Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke are now rolling out around the country.
Haven’t seen it yet in our neck of the woods, but in other places it is now out, with mixed reviews on the BevNet BevBoard Soft Drink Discussion Forum.
Have you tried these new flavors yet? If so, what do you think? The diet version is sweetened in part with something called “Ace-K”. Sounds like a “Top Gun” pilot name.
More coming soon to a courtroom near you.

Finally: Canadian Conservatives to Arm Border Guards

By
Located near the Detroit-Windsor, Canada border, I’ve paid special attention to Canada’s border guards and over the issue.
Just elected to power, Canada’s conservatives are already doing good. Vic Toews, a prominent, incoming Canadian Conservative, said that he expects the new conservative government to arm Canada’s border guards not long after the new government is sworn in.
Well, it’s about time.

BB&T: Courageous Anti-Kelo Bank Respects Property Owners

By
Three cheers for BB&T bank, which announced yesterday that it won’t extend loans to developers of land seized through eminent domain.
As one of the US’ largest financial institutions, BB&T doesn’t have to do this, and the bank will, no doubt, lose money for taking this principled stand. That makes it even more laudatory.
“The idea that a citizen’s property can be taken by the government solely for private use is extremely misguided; in fact, it’s just plain wrong,” said BB&T CEO John Allison. This man deserves our respect because he understands what America is about. It’s not just about capitalism. It’s about freedom from big government and abuse of power.
BB&T is based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We hope the bank will also refuse loans to Supreme Court Justice David Souter.

Brokeback Manners: Free Pass for Gay TV Correspondent’s Offensive Behavior

By
Last week’s “Golden Globe Awards” are history. But the behavior on the awards show’s red carpet of “E!” Entertainment Network correspondent and openly gay fashion designer (is there any other kind?) Isaac Mizrahi, isn’t.
Would a straight guy (or woman) get a free pass to engage in the same behavior? You be the judge. On the red carpet, Mizrahi asked and did the following to different actresses:
* “Is it bikini [waxed]? Your body hair? Was it done tonight?”
* “Are you wearing underwear?”
* “I touched Scarlett’s boob! I touched Scarlett’s boob!” (And he, in fact, groped the actress’ breasts.)
* “Come on, you’ve got to have the speech somewhere” (while looking down her dress).

Brokeback Manners: E!’s Isaac Mizrahi

Yet, despite this behavior, his bosses at E! are defending him (when they’d fire and probably file a police complaint against a straight male who did this), saying they like a person who’s full of surprises.
So do gays get a free pass to do or so the otherwise objectionable? Yes, they do. And they shouldn’t. Truly tasteless.

Condoleeza Clueless: Quote of the Day

By
“Palestinian people have apparently voted for change, but we believe their aspirations for peace and a peaceful life remain unchanged.”
Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice after the “aspirational” Palestinian people chose terrorist group HAMAS in droves.
Hello? Anybody in there? . . . . A very good reason to establish drug-testing for Presidential cabinet members.
