Attention, ICE: College Scholarship Seeks ONLY “Undocumented” Applicants

By Debbie Schlussel
If ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) leadership had the guts–and it doesn’t–it would subpoena the applicant list and applications of all those who seek the CORE (Chicano Organizing & Research in Education) first annual “Que Llueva Cafe” scholarship.
Why? Well, check this out (from my friend, the great Ruth King):

Why are they so brazen?
Because we’ve created the atmosphere where they feel free to be. The knew that no-one at ICE was going to go after them under The ICE Princess a/k/a Julie L. Myers. And they know that for sure, no-one will go after them now that ICE’s ultimate boss is Janet Napolitano a/k/a “The Lesbionic Woman,” who is investigating ICE agents for doing their jobs and arresting illegal aliens, rather than investigating illegal aliens and patting her agents on the back, which is what they really deserve.
I can’t wait until someone at CUNY sends out a request for scholarship applicants who MUST be Hezbollah and HAMAS terrorists.
Yup, that’s next. And sadly, it ain’t a stretch. If it happened, I’d bet Daniel Voloch and Rosa Solano would forward those to their e-mail lists at CUNY, too. (Yup, they long ago forgot what happened on 9/11 in their own state.) And no-one would do a thing about it.

If I Had Business in Ireland & I Needed Obama’s Help . . .

By Debbie Schlussel
. . . I’d invest in the NFL team owned by Dan Rooney, our newest Ambassador to Ireland, recently named by Barack Hussein Obama (who has not yet been confirmed).
Why?
Well, here’s why:

Pittsburgh Steelers’ president Art Rooney II says he and his father Dan Rooney are looking for additional partners.
The Rooneys are seeking investors so they can buy shares from Dan Rooney’s brothers that would separate the Steelers from the family’s gaming interest and satisfy NFL rules regarding ownership equity.

danrooneyobama.jpgdanrooneysteelers.jpg

Irish Eyes Are Smiling:

Dan Rooney, BHO’s Emerald Isle Emissary, Seeks Steelers Investors

The fact is that Ambassador Rooney has a huge conflict of interest that can’t be corrected, unless the Rooney family divests of the Steelers, which clearly isn’t the aim here.
Hey, maybe the lucky new Steelers “investors” can get the side benefit of a nice stay at the luxe 28,000-plus square foot, 62 acre pad provided to the U.S. Ambassador in Ireland.
If only a mainstream media reporter would keep his/her eyes out for the guest list of who stays there as Rooney’s guests in the next few years.

How Free Are You? Depends on Your Home State

By Debbie Schlussel
Some states are freer than others. That obvious statement applies not just to some countries versus others, but some American States versus others. The Mercatus Center of George Mason University ranked each of the United States by lack or presence of restrictive laws. But the study is purely libertarian. For example, while I think that most gun ownership restrictions are objectionable, I don’t support lax marijuana laws or gay marriage and partner benefits statutes (which, in many cases, are statist and less free, in that they require companies to provide gays with benefits). This study takes a blind eye to all of these laws and weighs them equally.
In addition, even though we have a law permitting gun owners to obtain a license to conceal and carry a gun, the restrictions on where you can and can’t carry it would make your head spin, and I view them as VERY restrictive. This study doesn’t take that into account–and instead only makes a positive judgment because you can conceal and carry in Michigan.

statesfreedom.jpg

Still, it’s interesting, and the obvious states, New Hampshire and New York, are the respective most and least free States.

The index of personal and economic freedom, developed by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University in Arlington, Va., is wide-ranging and comes from an individual-rights perspective.
The study, released late February, ranks New Hampshire, Colorado, South Dakota and Idaho as most free. New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and California are ranked as the least free.
By the researchers’ measure, ordinances such as seat-belt laws and sobriety checkpoints “count as notable infringements on individual liberty.”
The index also issued freedom demerits for alcohol regulations, including taxes on beer, wine and spirits and “blue laws” that prohibit Sunday alcohol sales.
Laws that allow residents to carry concealed handguns are considered good. As are relatively lax marijuana laws.
The study also lists “paternalistic” government activities: bicycle and motorcycle helmet laws, regulations requiring motorists to carry personal injury insurance, home- and private-school regulations and campaign-finance rules and asset forfeiture laws that allow government to take property without a conviction of the owner. . . .
The researchers – political scientists William Ruger of Texas State University and Jason Sorens of the State University of New York-Buffalo – note that no one area of the country nor political party appears consistently to offer citizens more freedom. Much has to do with state politics and a state’s social attitudes.
For example:
* California, ranked 47th in overall freedom, is more lenient on marijuana and same-sex partner laws, but its laws are tougher on gun owners, motorists and smokers. Labor laws are also strict. The study cites California as one of five states that require short-term disability insurance.
* Mississippi, ranked 25th, has high taxes and “eminent domain abuse has not been curtailed,” the study says, but it is one of a few states without an open-container prohibition for car passengers, and regulation of home-schooling is minimal.
* Florida, ranked 22nd, does not have a personal income tax, but its property and general sales taxes are higher than average, the study finds.
* New Hampshire, ranked first, has among the most liberal gun laws in the USA, although a permit is required to carry a firearm in a car, the study says. The state lacks a motorcycle helmet law (though it has a bicycle helmet law) and is the only state without a seat-belt law for adults.

I was surprised to see that my own State of Michigan is the 14th most free state, since I thought my state would be on the less free side. That makes the states on the less free end of the list really sound like relative gulags.

Quote of the Day: Hip-Hop Saved the World?

By Debbie Schlussel
Get your barf bag ready.
Rap/hip-hop charlatan Jay-Z (and hubby of Beyonce Knowles)–“slave name”: Shawn Corey Carter–said this to “Best Life” magazine:

[Hip-hop] has changed America immensely. Hip-hop has done more than any leader, politician, or anyone to improve race relations.
Racism is taught in the home … and it’s very hard to teach racism to a teenager who idolizes, say, Snoop Dogg. It’s hard to say, “That guy is less than you.” The kid is like, “I like that guy, he’s cool. How is he less than me?” That’s why this generation is the least racist generation ever.

jayzbestlife.jpgsnoopdoggtookiewilliams.jpg

Uh, no. That’s why this generation is the most racist against White people ever. And the most ignorant, uncultured, slacker, deviance-defined-down generation ever. Hmmm . . . I guess Jay-Z forgot about Snoop Dogg leading the protests to free Tookie Williams. You know, the racist killer, who targeted White people and murdered them in cold blood.
Idolizing Snoop Dogg ain’t a mark of anything positive. Don’t try it at a job interview . . . unless you’re interviewing for a job as personal assistant to a pimp, right-hand man to a drug kingpin, position at a record company or movie studio, or a slot in the Obama administration.
Reality check: Hip-hop has done more to take America down than anything other than big government and the ’60s/’70s counterculture generation.
Who needs Islam, when you have hip-hop? And it’s no coincidence that most major hip-hop acts are Muslims. Birds of a feather.

DebbieSchlussel.com Still Blocked @ Some Companies That Use Secure Computing “TrustedSource”

By Debbie Schlussel
Well, apparently, the problem of this site being blocked as “hate speech” and “hate/discrimination” hasn’t been fixed. Not completely. And not enough. Yet (I hope).
Thanks to all of the readers who’ve notified me if this site is still blocked at your workplace. Please keep them coming because, unfortunately, I’ve only heard from one reader who says the block has been reversed–at Bank of America. The rest of the employers that utilize Secure Computing’s TrustedSource–General Motors, Cisco Systems, etc.–are still blocking DebbieSchlussel.com as a “hate speech” site. The same goes for Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs and another very prominent conservative news site, which has asked me not to broadcast its name.

schlusselblocked.jpg

I’ve just called my contacts at McAfee, which as I noted owns Secure Computing. The company’s Director of Web Security Research tells me that, while she redesignated my site and Pamela’s as “Politics/Opinion” in the main database, that there are other databases utilized by TrustedSource that may still have us listed as “hate speech” or “hate/discrimination.” She said that when she goes into work (she is on Pacific time, as the company is in California), she will manually look at each database and correct them. Until then, companies accessing those databases will still have this site blocked.
Much worse, even after the database is updated, whether or not my site is blocked relies upon the frequency with which a company updates its software to the TrustedSource database. Companies that haven’t updated their TrustedSource software from the product’s database won’t have an updated description of this site as “Politics/Opinion” and it will still be noted as “hate speech” or “hate/discrimination.” That’s the case, for example, as noted by a reader from Cisco Systems.

Just thought you might want to know that my company’s Cisco firewall that uses Secure Computing’s Smartfilter has now blocked your site for “Hate Speech”.
I’ve attached a screen cap.

***

It’s still blocked for me — as is the Atlas Shrugged blog.
I can still read your blog via RSS (now sans the pictures) using Google Reader, which is my tool of choice for reading just about everything on the web.

How I Got My Site UnBlocked From Lib Computer Co. Execs: Pls. Let Me Know If Your Company/Agency Blocks DebbieSchlussel.com

By Debbie Schlussel
**** UPDATE, 03/23/09: DebbieSchlussel.com still being blocked ****
**** CORRECTION: I originally noted the company blocking my site as “Smart Computing.” It is Secure Computing. Not sure why I had “Smart” on my mind, since the original move to block my site wasn’t smart, just obnoxious. ****
A couple of readers told me my site was blocked at their respective hotel and employer within the last month. But in the last few days, a ton of readers have let me know that this site, DebbieSchlussel.com, was being blocked by their employer with the designation “hate/discrimination.” The same thing happened to readers from the Veterans Administration, General Motors, Wachovia, Hilton/Hampton Suites, etc., when they tried to access this site.
I learned, today, via this article, that my site was being blocked by McAfee’s Secure Computing TrustedSource product.

pc2.jpg

I contacted the in-house PR person from Secure Computing, who answered her cellphone (which was not designated as such on the company’s website). She was initially upset I called on her cellphone and said this was the first she’d heard of this problem. At first, she incorrectly blamed the individual companies for my site being blocked “because they don’t want their employees online during work.” But that’s not the case, I pointed out, since other sites with similar content were not, in fact, blocked at their workplaces. She asked me to write her an e-mail. I sent the e-mail below, and presto-change-o, I heard back from both the PR person and McAfee’s Director of Web Security Research (McAfee owns Secure Computing).
I learned from them that apparently a Secure Computing executive (whom I believe was referred to with female pronouns) manually changed the benign designation of “Politics/Opinion” on both DebbieSchlussel.com and Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs to “Hate/Discrimination” on March 18th, which is the reason many of you have been unable to access my site since then at companies which filter out sites so designated by TrustedSource.
Yes, some liberal, apparently biased McAfee/Secure Computing exec used her own personal political bias–or that of someone who contacted her–to sabotage my site and Pamela’s and censor us. Not such a “Trusted Source” after all, is it? Yes, we are in a day and age where the left cannot control the internet, so they try to censor out what they don’t want you to read.
Fortunately, the McAfee people say that because of my call and e-mail (again, they say they only heard from me and this is the first they knew of this), they have reversed the designation and labeled our sites, “Politics/Opinion.” The McAfee web security person apologized repeatedly, to her credit.
Please e-mail me and let me know whether or not you can access this site now from work (if you cannot, you are obviously reading and e-mailing me later in the day from home). Please also let me know at which company you work. Your e-mails will be confidential. This is important because some companies use different programs, and I want to tackle all of them.
I’m told that they are meeting tomorrow to discuss how to stop one person from censoring out websites in the future, as was done to me and my site in this case. I’m also told, though, that the re-designation of my site to “Politics/Opinion” is not permanent, as two others need to review it and agree. Let’s hope they are objective and not knee-jerk liberals (or pan-Islamists) in doing so. They said they will let me know their final decision and why. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, please read this e-mail below, which I sent to get this outrageous decision reversed. (Please also note that the McAfee people claim that Gateway Pundit was never labeled as “Hate/Discrimination” and thus wasn’t subject to the censorship that I was.)
We must remain vigilant on this issue as traffic is the lifeblood of websites, including this one.

Subject: Secure Computing’s Designation of my Site as “Hate/Discrimination” . . .
To: ally_zwahlen@securecomputing.com
Ms. Zwahlen:
Pursuant to our conversation, today, your company and it’s “TrustedSource” product have designated my conservative political website, https://www.debbieschlussel.com, as “Hate/Discrimination,” which has led many of my readers in the past few days to note that their employer has blocked my site because of your designation and your products. I have thousands of readers a day, and I have learned that my site as well as two other sites with several thousand readers, Atlas Shrugs and Gateway Pundit, are also similarly and inaccurately designated at “hate/discrimination” by your company and its products, leading companies that use your products to block our sites.
Our sites are not hate/discrimination sites, and we hope we don’t have to take this much farther. However, if this situation is not resolved to our satisfaction, we will, and we will be forced to report on this on our sites and list the Fortune 500 companies and government agencies that use your biased designations of websites with which someone at your company who doesn’t like our politics has chosen to sabotage us. I hope you will get to the bottom of this and resolve it, rather than continuing to give me the false and untrue excuse that this lies with the companies that use your product. This lies with your company and its designation of our sites as hate/discrimination. If that designation were removed, there would be no problem accessing our sites. For now, my site is now blocked from General Motors, Wachovia, the Veterans Administration, Hilton/Hampton Suites Hotels. All of these companies have told those who’ve inquired that they block out sites your company’s TrustedSource notes as “hate/discrimination” and “racism,” neither of which describe my site at all.
Here are the details on what your company is doing and why the blame lies directly with you. This article lists the sites your designation has been bestowed upon and why we are now blocked.
http://usabig.com/atnmst/jrnl_ii.php?art=29
Please note that I am a practicing attorney, licensed in the State of Michigan. Should I have to pursue further action in this matter, I would do so in Michigan, as your company’s software and improper designation of my site has taken place at the Michigan offices of General Motors, among others. Your designation of my site as “hate/discrimination” interferes with my relationship with my customers and readers and has harmed me significantly with tremendous damages.
I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this matter to my satisfaction, which means the removal of “hate/discrimination” and/or “racism” designations of my site and the use of the “Politics/Opinion, Blogs/Wiki,” which your company has designated other sites with the same content and opinions as my own.
Again, please let me know when my site is re-designated in a proper, accurate, and benign manner, and/or what action you and your company intend to take. This is a potential public relations nightmare for your company that you have the opportunity to quickly resolve.
Thank you,
Debbie Schlussel

VIDEO-Big Govt Wipes Out a Taste of Americana: Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton, Moonshiner, RIP, A Tragedy Brought to You by ATF/DoJ

By Debbie Schlussel
Yet again, a Saturday Wall Street Journal “Remembrances” column is filled with another interesting American personality, who isn’t well known, but his story is entertaining. And his ending is a sad testament to what America has become and how it picks its victims and perpetrators in the eyes of the law.
Apparently and sadly, Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton recently committed suicide rather than serve his second sentence in the federal pen for moonshining. I don’t know about you, but this Appalachian legend producing moonshine without a license wasn’t harming me, and it smacks more of big brother at work and big government over-regulating Americans literally to death than it does a crime that harmed society.
There is no justice when this harmless 62-year-old hillbilly was about to serve more time in federal prison, when Hezbollah’s CIA/FBI spy Nada Nadim Prouty won’t ever serve a day in prison.

marvinsutton.jpg

Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton, Rest in Peace

A scrawny, long-bearded mountain man with a foul mouth and a passing acquaintance with copper tubing and kettles, Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton seemed the embodiment of moonshiners of yore.
Brought up in rural Cocke County, Tenn., identified as one of four “moonshine capitals of the world” in the corn-whiskey history “Mountain Spirits,” Mr. Sutton learned the family trade from his father. The practice goes back to the Scots-Irish, who brought it to the New World, and it wasn’t illegal until after the Civil War, says Dan Pierce, chairman of the history department at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
“This is something that legitimately is an expression of the culture of this region,” Mr. Pierce says.
Like his forebears, Mr. Sutton had brushes with the law, and was first convicted of selling untaxed liquor in the early 1970s. He mostly kept out of trouble after that, though friends say his nickname came from an unfortunate encounter with a balky barroom popcorn machine. But he was well known as a distiller around his native Parrottsville.
He was a familiar figure at the Misty Mountain Ranch Bed & Breakfast in nearby Maggie Valley, N.C., wearing faded overalls and with a back stooped, he said, from decades of humping bags of sugar into the hills. He picked the banjo and serenaded guests on the inn’s porch. He helped decorate the $155-a-night Moonshiner suite at the inn with some still hardware.
Mr. Sutton put a modern spin on his vocation, appearing in documentaries and even penning an autobiography, “Me and My Likker.” Souvenir shops in Maggie Valley sold his video, “The Last Run of Likker I’ll Ever Make,” and even clocks with his image on them.
Other moonshiners have gone legit and cashed in; a former Nascar driver and moonshiner now offers Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon in Southern liquor stores. But Mr. Sutton insisted on earning a living the old-fashioned way, and in 2007, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives busted him with 850 gallons of moonshine, stored in an old school bus on his property.
He was convicted in 2008 and was due to report to prison Friday, his widow, Pam Sutton, told the Associated Press. Instead, facing the verdict and ill health, he was found dead by Ms. Sutton at the age of 62 on Monday, and authorities suspect carbon-monoxide poisoning, according to the AP. The Cocke County district attorney’s office said it is investigating the death.
Although Tennessee was once a hotbed of moonshine and federal “revenuers” pursued bootleggers through the hills, an attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee in Greeneville says he couldn’t remember the last federal prosecution of a moonshiner.
“Modern-day moonshining is the manufacture of methamphetamine,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg L. Sullivan says. “Tennessee is in the top five states nationally.”
Ms. Sutton discovered her husband in his green Ford Fairlane. “He called it his three-jug car,” she told the AP, “because he gave three jugs of liquor for it.”

I bet the ATF agents who busted Popcorn Sutton must feel real proud of themselves, while real threats in the ATF&E catogories are rampant around America. Way to go.
This 62-year-old man wasn’t a threat in any way. But, hey, why go after terrorists, armed robbers, drug dealers, and illegal aliens, when you can go after this poor, helpless guy from Appalachia just trying to survive. Sickening.
Rest in Peace, Popcorn Sutton, a genuine human specimen of Americana.
As far as real moonshiners from the hills go, you were “The Last One” (the title of the Sucker Punch Pictures documentary on Sutton).
Watch this video and see if you think this poor old man deserved prison time. Look at the guy. He was only 62 and looks like he’s in his nineties. Clearly he’s lived a hard life and is a victim, not a perpetrator.

Jordanian (Translation: Palestinian) MUSLIM Charged in Threat to Chicago Jewish School; FLASHBACK: Schlussel Previously Identified Mohammed Alkaramla; Suspect Writes Schlussel

By Debbie Schlussel
You heard it here, back in February, when P.I. Bill Warner identified–before all the mainstream media and everyone else–Mohammed Alkaramla as the name of the man whose home the FBI raided in connection with attacks on five Jewish schools and synagogues–including reader David’s synagogue–in Chicago. (Thanks to Bill Warner, who first identified the man).
Today, Alkaramla, a Muslim alien from Jordan (which means he’s Palestinian), was charged with threats to a Jewish school, the school of which my little sister is a graduate. He was arrested by agents from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, not its civil rights and hate crimes division, which should be a hint that this guy ain’t small potatoes and that the Bureau believes he’s a terrorist. He has dual U.S. and Jordanian citizenship.

lincolnwoodsynagogue.jpg

“Religion of Peace”: Mohammed Alkaramla Probably Also Vandalized to Reader David’s Lincolnwood Synagogue

This should be a warning to all those who think, “Well, my Muslim neighbor is so nice. My Muslim friend says he wants peace.”
Alkaramla’s neighbors said this kind of thing when his home was being raided. And, the chutzpahdik Mohammed Alkaramla made this comment on my site:

i am mohammed alkaramia was targeted from the FBI on the Feb. 12. 2009 after 8 hours of search my house and got out with computers and VHS tapes, has nothing to do of what they looking for .
i would never do any thing like that or even think about it, i think the FBI wanted to point at some one and didnt know who to point at, i wish they will find who did this to jews and i always wish for the middle east the peace between isreal and palstine
over all we all Humman being we must be treated the same .
Peace.

Well, your wish was granted. They found him all right. This “peace”ful man who utters the same non-violent baloney as most American Muslims do. It’s all a fraud.
More:

A 25-year-old Jordanian national from the Far North Side was arrested and charged this morning with mailing a threatening letter to a Jewish school in response to the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, according to the FBI.
At a morning federal court appearance, Mohammed Alkaramla was ordered held pending a hearing Tuesday morning.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Robert Milan. He described Alkaramla as a flight risk, noting his Jordanian citizenship.
Neighbors on Alkaramla’s block said that about eight FBI agents came to the house around 6:00 this morning to arrest the man.
Eli Azzo, a neighbor and relative of Alkaramla’s landlord, said he was surprised to find hear the man was accused of a hate crime.
“He doesn’t talk politics or religion, he’s a real quiet guy,” Azzo said. “I never gauged him that way as that kind of person.”

Of course, not. They’re not stupid. They don’t tell us they’re terrorists and they’re gonna do this. They pretend to be more “peaceful” than ’60s hippies and use their rhetoric.

In court, Alkarmla’s attorney, Phil Bernstein [DS: They hate the Jews, but love those Jewish lawyers], said his client had recently graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology and had not been in any trouble with the law before.

Big deal. Same for Mohammed Atta before 9/11.

Bernstein said his client has strong ties to the community.
“It’s a shock to his family and a shock to everybody who knows him,” Bernstein said. “There’s no indication he harbors any ill will toward anyone of any particular ethnicity or nationality in the city.”

Yeah, no ill will except his death threats.

Alkarmla is the same man interviewed by federal authorities Feb. 12 when they searched his West Rogers Park apartment in the 6000 block of North Artesian Avenue for evidence related to the vandalism of several synagogues and Jewish schools in Chicago and Lincolnwood.
Those incidents occurred on Jan. 10 in the wake of the Israeli airstrikes and troop incursions in the Gaza Strip.
But the FBI said this morning that he was only arrested in connection with a threatening letter sent to the Ida Crown Jewish Academy, 2828 W. Pratt Blvd., on New Year’s Eve.

Yeah, that’s because it’s the incredibly incompetent and pan-Islamist FBI, who can’t and is too lazy and PC to prove the other crimes. But you just know that this Alkaramla fraud did ’em.

On the day federal authorities executed the search warrant at the apartment, Rabbi Leonard Matanky, dean of Ida Crown, told the Tribune that the school received a bomb threat Dec. 31.
Sources said Alkaramla lived in New York before moving to West Rogers Park about a half dozen years ago.
After the search had been completed and authorities had left on Feb. 12, Alkaramla identified himself and told reporters that he was the target of the investigation.

Now, how would he know that, unless he knew he did it and not his wife and father, who live there also?

He denied wrongdoing and said he had been singled out by authorities because he is Muslim.

No, because he’s a violent Muslim who sent death threats to Jews.

When asked why authorities would target him in particular, he said he had asked investigators the same question.
“I’m too busy studying and working to commit [hate crimes],” he said. He indicated that he was attending school to be an engineer.

Ah, I guess if you are an engineer, you can’t be a terrorist? Tell it to dead Palestinian terrorist Yahyah Ayash a/k/a “The Engineer” and so many other engineering students and grads who were Islamic terrrorists.

Study Unintentionally Shows Lesbians MIght Not Be Ideal Adoptive Parents; USA Today Redacts Negative Part of Story on Gays–Why?

By Debbie Schlussel
Why did USA Today censor part of an article on gays that was negative toward them? I think we know why. More on that later, below.
The censorship relates to an article on one of the myths we constantly hear from gay activists as a reason they should be adoptive parents: relatively high income. We’re told that gays are mostly professionals with two incomes, no kids, and lots of money to spend.
But a gay-friendly study commissioned to show that gays are societal victims of poverty and affected by California’s ban on gay marriage, actually shows that they’re also not actually necessarily financially sound parents (in addition to exposing kids to the gay lifestyle–which is really the main issue). At least, that’s the case for lesbians. Rosie O’Donnell is not the norm (in addition to her being, well, not normal).

Lesbian couples are more likely to be poor than married heterosexuals, and children of same-sex parents are twice as likely to live in poverty as those of traditional married couples, a new report shows.

UCLA’s Williams Institute, which studies gay issues, says its report out today is the first to analyze poverty among gay and lesbian couples.
The report is an analysis of the most recent data on same-sex unmarried partners from the 2000 Census and two smaller surveys that include questions on sexual orientation. Together, it argues, they debunk “a popular stereotype (that) paints lesbians and gay men as an affluent elite.”
Unlike the upper-middle-class gay characters on TV’s The L Word and Will and Grace, “There are clearly many poor lesbian, gay and bisexual people,” says co-author Lee Badgett, an economist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The data she used include the 2002 federal National Survey of Family Growth and the 2003 and 2005 California Health Interview surveys.
The data were adjusted to account for differences in race, education and geography but do not reflect the impact of the current recession, Badgett says.
Even though single mothers are most likely to be poor, Badgett says, the study did not focus on single lesbians and gay men because most population surveys don’t ask about sexual orientation unless respondents volunteer that they are living with a same-sex partner.

The above portion is obviously from the on-line version of an article linked above, which appeared in today’s print version of USA Today, but this sentence–which appeared in the print edition–was deleted from the online version:

However, because most states do not recongize same-sex marriage, gay couples receive welfare and food stamps at higher rates than married heterosexuals whose incomes are combined to determine benefits, the study says.

The study does indeed say that. So why did USA Today censor this out of the online story?
It’s a rhetorical question. There is nothing noted in the “corrections” section of the paper, and it’s quite clear USA Today wants to censor the information about gays unethically doubling up on public assistance and entitlement programs.
USA Today clearly “plays for the other team” in its “reporting.”

Among other things, the Williams Institute study also found that:
* Lesbian couples have a poverty rate of 6.9%, heterosexual maried couples–5.4%, Black lesbian couples 21.1% (except the Williams sisters);
* One in five children living with same-sex parents lives below the poverty line. In traditional maried famlies: less than one in 10.

For it Before AND After She Was Against it: Phony Pol Sarah Palin Accepts 69% of Alaska Stimulus Earmarks

By Debbie Schlussel
Remember how I told you about Sarah Palin’s phony “anti-stimulus bill” positioning? When I wrote about how Palin claimed she was against the stimulus bill after she was first for it and claimed she wanted Alaska to get its “fair share,” I got a number of vile, anti-Semitic, sexist e-mails from Palinmessiah maniacs insisting Palin was against the stimulus bill. These blind followers probably also probably believed her equally phony claim that she was against the “Bridge to Nowhere,” when she actually supported it (then later “opposed” it).
Well, I was right again. This airhead isn’t just an airhead. She’s also a fraud. Her statements sound like an echo chamber of John Kerry about being for the Iraq War before he was against it. She’s now accepting 69%–or $642 million–of the estimated $930 million in federal stimulus funds earmarked for Alaska. Palin, as well as many intellectually dishonest conservatives and Palin fanatics, are lying about the numbers.

And it just shows that you can’t believe everything you read at places like Hot Air, etc. “Allahpundit” at Hot Air reported–and a gazillion airhead idiots mindlessly repeated on their websites, etc.–that Sarah Palin rejected $515 million in stimulus earmarks. But had he–and they–actually bothered to read her lying press release, instead of seeing what they wanted to read, they’d have noted that she actually accepted (by her own admission) $515 million, though she’s actually accepting $642 million, according to every media account except her own.
When I complained, he corrected it, but wrote me that it was no big deal:

No one except you is going to be particularly exercised about the difference between $515 million and $288 million.

Yup, criticize the liberal mainstream media for getting stuff completely wrong, but when you do it yourself, well, “no one . . . is going to be particularly exercised” at the falsity. Right. That’s the attitude. Accuracy doesn’t matter because “no one except you is going to be particularly exercised” about the lack of it.
The bottom line is that Sarah Palin is a fake. She’s not a conservative. She’s not a liberal. She’s not a moderate. She’s just a ruthlessly ambitious ignoramus-ette with no ideology, but for whatever will get her to higher office.
And you can’t believe a thing she says.
As for the stimulus bill earmarks Sarah Palin pretended she was against, well, she can’t help herself.
She’s Gotta Have It.
