Because today is 09/09/09, the auspiciously named movie, “9” also debuts in theaters.

The animated movie isn’t for kids.  It’s creepy and scary.  But, despite its obvious anti-war and anti-technology message, I liked it anyway because of its high-quality animation, story, and charm.

It’s the story of “9”–a puppet like burlap figure that is half-robot/half-stuffed doll–so-named because it is the ninth and most advanced such model designed by a now-deceased scientist.  It’s the future and man has destroyed man, due to technology and war.  (Could have done without that Unabomber-esque message–that technology and machines were invented by a Hitler-like dictator) though I do think some technology is scary “Brave New World” stuff).  The only thing left are machines and some of the nine models of robot-like  dolls with human qualities.  While some of the models want to give up and die, “9” convinces them otherwise–that they must fight the machines to survive.

9 and the other characters are voiced by great actors like Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau and current actors like John C. Reilly.

Like I said, the animation is terrific, the movie is relatively short, and though it’s a very bleak movie, it’s entertaining and hopeful at the end.  Also a bonus is the acknowledgement at movie’s end of a higher spirit–i.e., G-d–beyond the robots and machines.

Tonight, at a swanky suburban Chicago home, Israel’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center will be honoring Hatim “Tim” Attalla (he also spells it “Attallah” and several other ways), a federally indicted Islamic terrorism supporter and alleged gangland drug ring member.

That’s on top of a June fundraiser for Attalla’s legal defense, hosted by Jewish National Fund Vice President Hannan Lis and his wife, Lisa Lis, at their palatial Detroit-area digs.  More about them, later.

Attalla, a Detroit lawyer and Palestinian Muslim activist, was put on leave from his law firm and dumped as an advisor by Detroit Mayor David Bing, very quickly after he was indicted for assisting the Detroit branch of the Highwaymen Motorcycle Club, headed by Yemeni Muslim Aref “Scarface” Nagi a/k/a “Steve” (and his son–some say, nephew–Nasser Nagi), in their cocaine, heroine, ecstasy, steroids, marijuana, and illegal gun smuggling ring (which also involved murder and other crimes).  Read the chilling details of this crime ring’s “activities.”

It’s not just that Attalla’s been indicted, pursuant to over 30,000 FBI wiretaps and surveillance, for his part as the consigliere of  the Highwaymen Motorcycle Club’s (HMC) Detroit branch–a murderous, mafia-style drug ring (think Robert Duvall’s lawyer in “The Godfather,” minus the class, dignity, and love of America)–that’s the problem.  It’s not just that Attalla allegedly smuggled drugs to Nagi, perhaps for sale in prison.  It’s not just that Attalla was, for years, known to have gang protection on the streets and reportedly advised Nagi on Highwaymen deals with the MS-13 gang and a series of briberies of at least one DEA agent and several local cops–the dirty work for which the two allegedly dispatched James “Jimmy” Gebara to carry out for them.

And it’s not just the rumors that have, for years, circulated around Dearbornistan that Attallah was directing money to HAMAS from this and alleged other enterprises.  Sources believe that some money from the HMC enterprise might have been diverted to Al-Qaeda or HAMAS.

It’s Attalla’s non-stop, open involvement in Muslim-dominated organizations that openly support HAMAS and Hezbollah.  It’s his close association with Hezbollah agent and anti-Semite Osama Siblani (whose family works for Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV) and FBI award revokee, marriage fraud perpetrator, and “former” Islamic terrorist Imad Hamad (of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine)–who are standing up for Attalla and heading Muslim efforts to raise money for his defense.

It’s that Attalla hosted International Solidarity Movement founder, terrorist Adam Shapiro (who gave shelter to the Islamic terrorists the night before they blew up Mike’s Bar in Tel Aviv, killing and maiming many innocent civilians), at his Canton, Michigan home.  And it’s Attalla’s record of defending homicide bombings and blaming Israel for all of the violence in the Mid-East.

But while even the sleazy City of Detroit and a law firm full of people who lie for a living said scram to Attalla, his very serious federal indictment, United States of America v. Hatim “Tim” Attallah, wasn’t a big deal to Allison Slovin, who heads fundraising for Shaare Zedek Hospital in Chicago or for Adele Gorenstein, who is hosting him in her home, this evening.  Shaare Zedek already gave him an award a few years ago, and undeserved awards are stubborn things.  People don’t want to admit they made a mistake giving them out.

The indictment states:

Hatim Attallah assisted Aref Nagi by advising individuals to keep silent regarding Nagi’s involvement in the drug conspiracy, by supplying Nagi with a variety of different pills, and by acting as general counsel for the enterprise.

This isn’t a matter of an attorney advising his client. It’s a matter of the attorney and the client engaging in the criminal enterprise business together.

This scanned image is from my campaign button and political pin collection.  It’s from the 1960s and was worn by liberal activists and hippies.  Whenever I see it, I’m reminded that White racism (and violence) against Blacks is mostly not tolerated in the America of today, but Black racism–and violence–against White people remains acceptable and is, in fact, in vogue.  I keep wondering (in vain) when there will be a “Blacks Against Black Violence” pin.

Sadly, stories like this one–in the Oklahoma City area–make me doubt I’ll ever see one in my lifetime:

A family is speaking out tonight after a mother is shot dead in her own driveway. Police were called to the shooting Saturday night near Northwest 88th and Walker Avenue. An argument took place, and one man fired shots. Roberta Hill was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound where she later died. Hill’s family says she didn’t deserve this, and that the argument may have been racially charged.

Lindsey Castle, Roberta Hill’s Daughter-in-Law said, “You white people are in the wrong neighborhood, that’s what they said. She was a good person, she was a good mom, good grandma. She really didn’t have anyone that dislike her, nothing. she didn’t deserve what happened to her.”

Yes, the hippies who wore those pins in the ’60s are looking the other way on stuff like this. They’re nowhere to be found when the racism goes the other way.

On Friday, “Desperate Housewives” star and “healthcare expert” Eva Longoria Parker, MD weighed in on ObamaCare.  She claims that, without, ObamaCare, kids “of color” will live with “fear.” (No she’s not really a medical doctor and doesn’t play one on TV, either . . . just on the pages of USA Today).

In an op-ed in USA Today, Friday, she said that without “affordable, comprehensible, and accessible coverage”–all euphemisms for ObamaCare–not only will kids live in fear, but we’re racist because it affects Hispanic and Black people more.

Really?  When was the last time Longoria Parker visited the people of Appalachia and Northern Michigan–dirt poor, without healthcare, and mostly White?  As we all know, Obamacare won’t “discriminate” against anyone.  We’ll all get lousy doctors and terrible healthcare.

Longoria cites the usual propaganda stats from the far-left, deceptively-named Children’s Defense Fund (Hillary Clinton’s buddies).

I like her “Desperate Housewives” alter ego, Gabrielle Solis, far better.  She might be evil, selfish, mean, sneaky, and scheming, but, unlike her airhead real-life counterpart, she’d never push for socialized medicine.  And she’s a whole lot more likeable.  Sometimes art doesn’t imitate life.  It’s smarter than that.

Ironically, the Friday op-ed column in USA Today is reserved for minorities.  It’s funny to hear an overpaid minority–writing in a column reserved exclusively for minorities–lecture the rest of us about discrimination.  Eva.  Meet. Mirror.

U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Michigan) sent out press releases telling everyone and their mother that, yesterday, he was in Israel speaking at a conference on terrorism.

But, with blowhard Rogers–a conservative–as the keynote speaker, perhaps the “World Summit on Counter-Terrorism, ” should change its name to “World Summit on Counter-Terrorism and Phony American Congressmen Who Blew It.”  Rogers needs to shut his mouth, stay Stateside, and actually do something on terrorism.  Problem is, he’s all talk and ZERO action.

In 2006, I was invited by members of the organized Detroit Lebanese Maronite Christian community to an event they held for Rogers.  It was an “American Assembly for Lebanon” fundraising event for Rogers’ campaign, but after his answers, many of these patriotic Christian Lebanese were rightfully sorry they donated to his campaign.  Rogers demonstrated–in answers to my pointed questions–that he’s simply a tool and enabler of the continuing federal law enforcement political correctness and pandering to open supporters of Islamic terrorism in our midst.

Rogers, a former FBI agent, is not only a member of the House Intelligence Committee, he’s the ranking member on its Subcommittee on Terrorism.  But even before he became the ranking member, Rogers was always known as the FBI’s bitch . . . and in fact, the bitch of all of the federal law enforcement agencies.  He regular lobbied for and successfully obtained bloated budgets for the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), etc.

On behalf of the Lebanese Maronites in attendance, I asked Rogers–since he is key to ever-growing FBI and ICE funding–when the FBI and ICE would stop discriminating against patriotic Maronite Christians, who sought to become agents and translators after 9/11, in favor of untrustworthy Muslims from Dearbornistan.  Many in attendance at the event–including several who were already members of local law enforcement–tried in vain after 9/11, to help America defeat Islamic terrorists by attempting to join the FBI and ICE.  All were turned away (because, you know, with less than 35 FBI agents nationwide who speak Arabic, there’s no shortage of Arabic linguists whatsoever).  Instead, Muslims chosen by open supporters of terrorism–like FBI award revokee/ICE “recruiter” and “former” Islamic terrorist Imad Hamad–were hired.

Whenever they say it’s not about money or oil but about humanitarian relief for a dying man, it’s usually about money or oil.

And such is the case with the Scottish release of convicted Pan Am Flight 103 bombing mastermind, Abdel Baset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi.

Now it’s come out that the brother of Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill–the man who made the ultimate decision to release Al-Magrahi–has business in Libya.  (Reminds me of when George W. Bush wanted to hand over our ports to his brother’s United Arab Emirates patrons.)

To quote Gomer Pyle, Surprahz, surprahz:

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who recently released the Lockerbie bomber, has a brother who is an energy-industry executive and who has worked at firms that have pitched for oil business in Libya.

The Scottish government, which has said that it made full disclosure of facts relevant to the decision, didn’t disclose this relationship. . . .

Today isn’t just Labor Day, it’s the last day–forever–of the historic Michigan State Fair.  Yes, it’s a sad day in Michigan history.  And a sad day for me, given the great family memories I have of attending the State Fair, and given the State’s Muslim-funding priorities.

This is the 161st and last year of the State Fair because Michigan’s Governor Jennifer Granholm a/k/a “the Governatrix Gran-HO” and legislators announced they will no longer subsidize the fair, a tribute to Michigan’s largest industry:  agriculture.  Gran-HO announced that Michigan doesn’t have the money to pick up the losses, as it annually does for the State Fair.  The amount was $360,000 in 2008.

Yet, while the State claims it’s slicing the budget everywhere and making “sacrifices” like the Fair, Michigan taxpayers somehow have plenty of money for Granholm’s Muslim friends and left-wing artists.

It’s sad for me because I have great memories of my Dad taking me and my siblings to the Fair when we were kids.  He took us to see the livestock and produce and the independent farmers who make those their living because he wanted us to appreciate the hard work of the farmers around our state and how they were the backbone of much of Michigan living.  As an adult, I took my little brother (12 years my junior) to the fair to show him the same and treat him to rides and other fun stuff.

But it’s even sadder, when you consider that Michigan–amid deficits and an ever-sinking desperate economy–gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to left-wing and Muslim artists through arts grants, and that it gave far more to the anti-Israel, Muslim-dominated Arab American National Museum and the Muslim-run Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS).

In 2008–the last year for which an annual report is available–ACCESS got $9.7 milllion in grants from the State of Michigan and the federal government (Bush’s HUD and State Dept. gave millions to ACCESS over the years), more than half its annual budget.  2009 levels are unlikely to be significantly lower.  For 2009-2010, ACCESS got a grant of $60o,000 from the State of Michigan as a “learning center.”  In 2009, ACCESS got $16,000 in art grants from the State.  And that doesn’t count the gazillions it gets from Michigan for “job training” (teaching Islamic terrorists how to get Commercial Driver’s Licenses and HazMat hauling certificates–yes, ACCESS really did that), health programs, etc.

Among the new movie releases out today, “Gamer” and “Carriers” were not screened for critics, which means they likely stink.

Here’s what I did see:

*  “Extract“:  This movie was pretty funny.  It’s from Mike Judge, the wonderfully politically incorrect man behind one of my favorite comedies, “Idiocracy” (a must rent, if you haven’t seen it). It’s not his best work. But it’ll do. I laughed a lot. The sexual themes might bother you, and it’s definitely not for kids. It’s not a “great movie,” but I enjoyed it. And it has some great themes in it–the sleaziness of trial lawyers and the hard work it is to be an entrepreneur, then have your lazy, incompetent employees demand a share.

Jason Bateman plays the hard-working owner of an extract flavoring company. His factory workers are lazy and stupid, with an overabundance of self-esteem. They think they should get a piece of the pie when the constant rumors circulate about General Mills putting an offer on the table to buy the place out. But because of their incompetence, an accident happens, causing an employee to lose a testicle and barely hold on to his second one.

Enter Mila Kunis, an attractive, scantilly-clad common criminal engaged in constant scams and theft. She reads about the accident and soon comes on to the de-testicled employee, convincing him to hire a trial lawyer to sue the company for everything, so she can collect. Gene Simmons masterfully plays a trial lawyer in what’s probably the movie’s best scene. He is excellent, and it’s worth seeing the movie just for that.  Dude has the sleazy trial lawyer thing down pat–probably better than any ambulance chaser impersonation I’ve seen.
