Quote of the Day: Your Day in Hip-Hop “High Culture”

By Debbie Schlussel

Everyone at DebbieSchlussel.com’s favorite rap artist, for Wu Tang Clan ranter Ghostface Killah (real name:  Dennis Coles), is out with a new contribution to American class and culture, his semi-eponymous album, “Ghostdini:  The Wizard of Poetry in the Emerald City.”  (Both Houdini and the Wizard of Oz are turning over in their eternal resting places.)

In order to celebrate his new contribution to haute compost, Mr. Killah is on a press blitz that includes some really scintillating gems.  First, there’s this from New York Magazine:

The Next Supreme Ct Op to Show Our “International Humanity” (How Will Sotomayor Vote?)

By Debbie Schlussel

In 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed the death penalty for U.S. residents under the age of 18 a/k/a juveniles, no matter how heinous their crimes and how clear it was that they knew what they were doing.  In Roper v. Simmons, the court relied on a series of ridiculous bases for the ruling, including international law (goodbye, U.S. sovereignty) and the claim that there is a “national consensus” among states that such executions are wrong (Supreme Court decisions via instant poll?).

joesullivan

Let Joe Sullivan Out?: At 13, He Raped 72-Year-Old.

The problem with the ruling is that it gave no incentive to violent juveniles to decline murdering someone, knowing that they would get away with it and get to live.  And not only that, but probably be out of the slammer by age 21.

Now, I fear a similar ruling and result in Sullivan v. Florida and Graham v. Florida, companion cases that the Supreme Court is scheduled to decide this term.  In those cases, the Court will decide whether or not it’s “cruel and unusual” punishment for minors to be given life in prison with no chance for parole.

Football “On Loan From G-d”?: Rush Limbaugh May Buy St. Louis Rams

By Debbie Schlussel

While I agree with a good deal of what Rush Limbaugh says, there are several areas of significant difference.  For instance, I’ve always wondered why Rush Limbaugh–while speaking out against most other forms of big government–has never said anything about taxes and millages and outright giveaways to sports teams.  If he has spoken out against it, I haven’t heard it.  In my opinion, that’s the worst form of corporate welfare, which creates the least amount of jobs, jobs which are mostly seasonal and which pay well below market rates.  Why should the average working stiff subsidize the palaces and offices of gazillionaire owners and millionaire players?

rushrams

Now, we may have the answer on Rush’s views.  He may be about to become one of the part owners of the St. Louis Rams.  If you thought Rush was biased in favor of pro sports teams and athletes already, look out. On the other hand, if he becomes an owner, he may have to restrain what he says about pro football.  We’ll see.

Go Away, Levi Johnston . . . & the Rest of the Pistachio Cast

By Debbie Schlussel

As readers know, I’m no fan of Sarah Palin and her dysfunctional Mr. Mom family.  But I’m no fan of her daughter’s babydaddy, Levi Johnston, either.  I wish this tabloid clan would just go away . . . all of them.  Sadly, that won’t happen on any count.  It’s not just that Sarah Palin’s ghostwriter’s book is already topping best-sellers lists.  It’s that this idiot, Levi Johnston, actually got some ad agency to buy into his silly attempts to be in “acting” and serve as a spokesmodel (not that he’s any dumber than the current Hollywood crop). Below is Johnston’s new “star turn,” in a set of dumb ads for pistachios.

Hahaha! Did you get that? He does it “with protection.” Frickin’ hilarious. . . if you’re a moron.

I love pistachios, but these silly sexually-laden, double entendre ads–featuring Johnston, a dominatrix, a mobster (Vincent Pastore) from “The Sopranos,” some poor midget, and assorted others–are making me rethink my support.  Apparently, the pistachio industry still hasn’t recovered  from a salmonella contamination scare and recall back in April.  Now, they’re spending $15 million in an ad campaign.  No word on how much the Palin babydaddy made from this, but you can bet the Palins–regardless of the millions they’ve now made–will hit him up for child support.  Below are some of the ads (all of which are here):

Weekend Box Office: Anti-Religion “Invention of Lying,” Great “Zombieland,” Butch Feminist “Whip It,” Mikey Moore Agit-Prop

By Debbie Schlussel

This week’s new releases present a troika of offensive, leftist blather.  Hatred of religion, hatred of capitalism, hatred of femininity–take your pick.  There’s a movie for each one, this week.  Ironically, it also includes one of my top comedies of the year, the excellent “Zombieland.”

*  “Capitalism:  A Love Story“:  Read my complete review.  Hypocrite Michael Moore tells us that capitalism is the root of all evil, while it’s actually the root of his fat bank account.  Again, read my complete review of this lying agit-prop.

*  “Zombieland“:  This is one of my top ten or top 15 movies of the year.  It’s funny, it’s cute, it’s got zombies, doomsday scenarios, and, yes, Bill Murray.  I laughed a lot, and I liked the cool, fast-paced story and the positive ending in a world that’s been destroyed.

Lies, Damn Lies & Michael Moore Cinema Screeds

By Debbie Schlussel

My friend, former Detroit Free Press movie critic Terry Lawson, said it best when wrote this about Michael Moore:

His blue collar bonhomie is bunk.

capitalismlovestory

That’s the flabulous filmmaker in a nutshell.  And Terry Lawson is a liberal, normally inclined to side with Moore’s polemics.

To say that Michael Moore is intellectually dishonest wouldn’t be correct.  It’s not intellectual.  He’s just plain, flat out dishonest.  And hypocritical.

And “Capitalism:  A Love Story,” his latest fake-umentary, is more like Hypocrisy:  A Love Story.  The lovers:  Michael Moore and  . . . himself.

Sukkot (Tabernacles) Begins Tonight

By Debbie Schlussel

To my friends and readers:

Tonight at sundown, the Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins (and ends next week–it lasts seven days). I’ll still be here posting stuff, again, on Monday, so no interruption here because of it.

Here’s some information about this great, fun holiday, from a previous post:

Sukkot (also called Sukkos, Succos, or Succot) is called Tabernacles in English. It is one of the three Jewish harvest festival holidays, and we commemorate the Jews’ temporary existence (and temporary dwellings), while wandering in the Sinai desert [and subject to the will of G-d and the weather conditions imposed by Him].

sukkah4.jpgsukkah.jpg

sukkah2.jpg

Various Versions of Sukkahs/Sukkot

To do so, Jews build temporary huts (called “Sukkot” for plural) outside their homes. They decorate the Sukkah (singular of the word) and eat all meals there during the holiday. (My father used to sleep in it, too.) It is very fun for kids because they help decorate the sukkah, and also visit other Sukkot in the neighborhood, eating candy and other treats there, sort of like on Halloween (but no tricks or treats, and it’s way more spiritual).

Worldwide (Get In Your) Pants, Inc.

By Debbie Schlussel

I used to wonder why David Letterman called his longtime production company, “Worldwide Pants, Inc.”  Now, I know why. It’s just an abbreviation for the real name:  Worldwide Get In Your Pants, Inc.

Ba-dum-bum-ch.

worldwidepantslettermanson

Yes, the whole David Letterman saga of admitting he used his personal staff like his own personal concubinage on the set of “The Bachelor” isn’t just sordid.  I could do a great comedy monologue on it.  So could you. I don’t condone extortion and blackmail (plus they’re illegal)–in this case that of a CBS “48 Hours” producer.  But here it’s ironic that it’s literally a case of he made his bed (or didn’t make it), and he “slept” in it. Yup, this aging, formerly funny (like two decades ago) late night host isn’t just a creep. He’s creepy. Yuck.

And while I thought conservative feigned outrage over his jokes about Sarah Palin’s daughter and her allegedly looking like a “slutty flight attendant” were a little over the top (especially about the daughter–hello . . . we knew which daughter she was referring to, and she is in fact a proud babymama and the Palins should have been embarrassed, not outraged), I guess we now know why Letterman thinks he’s such an expert on slutty flight attendants and slutty everything else, since he used his staff as her personal set of multiple sperm depositories. (I guess he never heard the adage about not “bleeping” where you eat.)  Now, the Palin family (classy in not publicly saying anything) is privately having the last laugh, not only because he’s turned out to be the real slut after all, but because at the same time, Sarah Palin’s ghostwriter’s book is number one on many retailer’s bestseller list and it isn’t even out yet.

Buy This Book: Papercut – The Apophis Conspiracy

By Debbie Schlussel

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks occurred, there was evidence that Middle-Eastern parties in the know short-sold stocks and bet financially on the decline of the stock market.  Although some naysayers claimed it wasn’t true, the evidence remains.

apophisbookpaulkarcher

I’ve always believed that the best carnage our enemies could wreak on us is financial, not bloody.  Enemy forces could manipulate our markets, banks, and currency very easily . . . if they wanted to.  The Saudis and Emirati princes could pull all of their investments and our banks and major corporations would likely collapse.

But what if they did worse?  What if our enemies–Islamic terrorists, Chinese Communists, and even a Nazi’s son–combined to take America down and make our dollars even more worthless than they are now?  Completely worthless.  What if they eliminated top economic authorities and officials?

Those are the initial salvos of Paul Karcher’s thrilling  novel, “Papercut:  The Apophis Conspiracy.”  I’ve provided a positive blurb for Paul’s book jacket, and you may have noticed the ad for the book on the right side of this page.  That’s because I enjoyed this book immensely and endorse it wholeheartedly.  You can buy it here.

At 286 pages, “Apophis Conspiracy” is a fast, fun read.  And regardless of the financial machinations of the book, it’s got action, murder, and American patriotism and heroics–it has it all.  And it has suspense and excitement.  Once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down.  It’s not just a thriller for smart people, it’s something we can feel happening right now.

Shut Up: Stop Calling for Gilad Shalit’s (& a Gazillion Terrorists’) Release; 20 Terrorists for a Video

By Debbie Schlussel

For the past three years, I’ve gotten repeated e-mails, Twitter tweets, Facebook messages, and other requests galore to write demanding the release of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier kidnapped by HAMAS in 2006.  And I’m tired of it.  It’s ridiculous.  And it’s resulting in the continued downward spiral of bad Israeli policy.

israeliflag2.jpgsnakecat2.jpgpalestinianflag.jpg

This is What Gilad Shalit’s Release Looks Like

It’s not just that, as I’ve reported on this site, Mr. and Mrs. Noam Shalit, the far-left parents of Gilad Shalit, are the Cindy Sheehans of Israel, engaging in absurd and outrageous moral equivalency and parading around with Islamic terrorists and Palestinian “victims of terror” in Israeli hospitals.  That’s bad enough.  And it’s not just that all of this pressure and all of these calls for Shalit’s release are ignored by HAMAS and won’t be answered by them.

noamshalit&palestinians.jpgcindysheehanjessejackson.jpg

Israel’s Cindy Sheehan, Noam Shalit, (right)

with Palestinians, Pal Official Saeb Erekat (left)

It’s that these repeated loud cries for Shalit’s release are only heard by the Israeli government and only coaxes Israeli officials to continue to engage in these ludicrous, lopsided releases of Islamic terrorists from prison, something the Shalit-Sheehans are pushing for their son’s release.  As longtime readers know, I’ve repeatedly decried these ridiculous prisoner releases on this site.

In a more outrageous development than ever, Israel just released 20 female Islamic terrorists to HAMAS in exchange for . . . a videotape?! Sickening.
