My Votes on the Best Movies, Actors, Etc. in 2009

By Debbie Schlussel

Last week, as a member of the Detroit Film Critics Society, I cast my nominating votes for best movie of the year, etc.  We were allowed to vote up to five nominations in each category, with the first being the best and getting five points, the second getting four points, and so on.  Here’s what I nominated, and below it, I post the final choices, and my votes below that.  For each movie that is already out, I link to my reviews and/or put notes of explanation.

Bear in mind that some of these (like Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress) were votes I put in because we could nominate up to five choices.  Also keep in mind that while I really liked most of these movies, I hated some of them, but thought the actors/actresses were good in them (and I note such where applicable).  Also, some of these movies, like “Departures” and “The Merry Gentleman,” came out in 2008 but we were allowed to vote for them because they weren’t released for screening or showing here in Detroit until 2009.  So, here are my nominations, but please keep in mind that I’ll try to have my separate, complete top ten list of movies by the end of the year.

“Halal Twinkie Defense” Fails: FINALLY, Naveed Haq, Seattle Muslim Murderer, Convicted

By Debbie Schlussel

Longtime readers know I’ve been following the case of Naveed Haq, the Muslim who murdered one woman and injured five others as he attacked the Seattle Jewish Community Center.  He went there with the intent to murder as many Jews as possible, and miraculously only got one.  But it was one too many.

Islamic Terrorist Naveed Haq Convicted / Guilty

attackonseattlejcc.jpg

This afternoon, Haq was finally found guilty by a jury and convicted.

I say, “finally,” because this was Islamic terrorist Haq’s second trial.  As I noted on this site last year, Haq’s first jury was one of these absurd O. J. Simpson-style juries, and it ended in a mistrial.  Some jurors bought Haq’s attorney’s phony-baloney mental illness/insanity defense. I call it the “Halal Twinkie Defense.” (Maybe I should trademark it.  Remember I coined it, the next time you see the likes of Malkin, Vannity, Geller, etc. pilfering it.) We see it in many cases where Muslims attacks Jews, Christians, and other Americans based on their Muslim beliefs, then claim insanity.

But not this time.  We will have more and more of these as we continue to allow more and more Muslims into the country and watch those already here breed more and more Naveed Haqs in our midst.  It won’t end with Nidal Malik Hasan and his Fort Hood Islamic terrorist attack.

Obama’s Dirty Double Entendre: When I First Heard About His “Cash for Caulkers” . . .

By Debbie Schlussel

. . . I immediately thought of this prank call from Comedy Central’s “Crank Yankers.” Yes, it has a lot of filthy double entendres, but what do you expect from another stupid Obama cash giveaway for BS? NOT safe for kids or for work, even though there really isn’t a dirty word in it and it aired on primetime regular cable. If you are at all prudish, do NOT watch the video. It’s just talk about caulk, like the kind this silly Obama program will engender.  In case you wondered, Niles Standish’s voice is that of Anthony “Tony” Barbieri a/k/a “Jake Byrd” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” And yes, the audio is that of a real, actual prank call to some sort of hardware store.

Cash for Caulkers as a plan to stimulate jobs and save energy–bad idea. As a plan to stimulate humor and more adult-oriented videos like this one–a bonanza!

Tattoos: What Not to Get for the Holidays; + Dumb Tattoo Story of the Day

By Debbie Schlussel

Longtime readers know what I think of tattoos, especially on women (and there are those telling tats on criminals, here and here).   If you’re a woman wearing one at bar time, it’s a clue: you’re a skank (and probably not too bright–I’d bet the average IQ of chicks with tattoos is far lower than the average IQ of those without). There’s a reason they call it a tramp stamp. So I had to laugh when I saw the ads below, in a local Detroit coupon mailing insert.  Oh, the irony in juxtaposing what you can buy someone–or rather what you shouldn’t buy someone–for the holidays. If you get “gift” #1, above, one year, you’ll be headed for gift #2, below, the next.  There ain’t nothin’ sexy about it, other than telling people you’ll just as easily inset other things into your body without protest, as you did multiple times with a needle.

But before you check out the ad, first watch this story about a young kid who had his sister’s friend pose as his mother–or claiming she was his guardian or something–and got a tattoo. A story of DumbAss America on so many levels . . .

No Tears for Bill O’Reilly Or “Law & Order” Cretins: A Pox on Both Their Houses

By Debbie Schlussel

Bill O’Reilly is upset that “Law & Order” attacked him on last Thursday’s episode.  Sorry, I don’t sympathize with him.  I only sympathize with Rush Limbaugh, who was also unfairly attacked as causing killings of illegal aliens’ children a/k/a “anchor babies” on the fictional NBC drama.

lawandorderbilloreilly.jpg

Why?  Well, first of all, what goes around comes around.  And here’s a very appropriate equation: Bill O’Reilly = Pot (Kettle + Black). In 2005, Bill O’Reilly, on his failed and now defunct nationally syndicated radio show, defamed the Jews the same way he now claims “Law & Order” defamed him.  When Jews were being expelled from their Gaza homes–where Jews lived off and on for thousands of years amidst various enemy conquerors–O’Reilly had this to say about why Jews live there:

They want cheap land.  The Jews lived there because it was cheap.

This is the same Bill O’Reilly who is now upset that “Law & Order” dialogue describes him as “like a cancer spreading ignorance and hate.”

Hmmm . . . when you tell your audience that Jews are cheap, is that not “spreading ignorance and hate”?

DumbAssity of the Day: Illegal Aliens LUUUV Colorado Stupremes

By Debbie Schlussel

This is kind of like telling people they’re not allowed to involve their hands in blowing their noses.

illegalaliens.jpg

muslimgivingthefinger.jpg

Thanks, Stupreme Yankee Gringos of Colorado For Making It Easier

And we wonder why the world–especially illegal aliens in our midst and dangerous terrorists seeking or succeeding in gaining entry–laugh at us.  The just love stupid yankee gringos like the majority of the Colorado Stupreme, er . .. Supreme Court.

Uh, since when do illegal aliens and non-legal residents have a right to privacy? And since when do lawbreakers have a right to privacy to break the law? This isn’t about two gay guys having sex in the privacy of their own bedroom.

And, in case you were wondering, the judge who was affirmed in this boneheaded decision, Judge James Hartmann, Jr., was a Bush nominee to the federal bench in 2008.

The Colorado Supreme Court ruled Monday that Weld County authorities violated the Fourth Amendment and privacy rights of suspected illegal immigrants when they used tax returns to potentially build hundreds of identity theft cases against them.

Other Chanukah Outrage: Muslim Savagely Attacks Rabbi @ Lighting Ceremony

By Debbie Schlussel

Earlier today, I wrote about the masked Nazis shouting obscenities at the Fairfield, Connecticut Chanukah menorah lighting ceremony in Connecticut.  And, yes, there was another, more brutal attack in Vienna, where the rabbi’s finger was bitten off by a Muslim–an Islamic terrorist attack.  Loyal reader NormanF said that he is more worried about the Muslims than the neo-Nazis.

That Was Then . . .

swastika.jpgyellowstar.jpg

This Is Now . . .

islamiccrescent.jpgyellowstar.jpg

I’m worried about both because I know that America’s and the worlds bend-over-backwards philosophy toward Muslims and Islamic anti-Semitism made the neo-Nazis bravery possible.  Yes, the Muslims are the greater threat, but we know that they and the Nazis have historically worked together, from during the Holocaust (when there were two special Muslim SS units and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem had meetings with Hitler urging him to finish off the Jews more quickly and export the Final Solution to the MidEast, including “Palestine”),  after World War II (when the former Nazis had shelter in Egypt, Syria, and elsewhere, and when they–the members of ODESSA, the SS alumni group, helped Nasser and his Egyptian army in their attempts to formulate missiles, both nuclear and filled with disease, to hit Israel), and now (Muslims and neo-Nazi groups often work together in their illicit and anti-Semitic activities).

And, yes, the story is very disturbing and depressing.  In both cases, those conducting the menorah lighting celebrations were from the Chabad movement of Judaism, which was the victim of several murders in last year’s Mumbai Islamic terrorist attacks.

So, where is CAIR and the other Islamic groups?  Crickets chirping and zero denunciation of this horrible, horrible crime:

Moments after presiding over a public Chanukah menorah lighting in Vienna’s Stephansplatz Square Saturday night, Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Dov Gruzman was evacuated by ambulance when a man appeared out of the crowd and attacked him, biting the rabbi’s finger.

Texas Media Lie on Schlussel v Farouk Shami: It’s Not Just That He’s Muslim, It’s That He’s Extremist

By Debbie Schlussel

A while ago, I told you about Farouk Shami, the owner of Chi, BioSilk, and Farouk Systems hair products.  The multi-millionaire Palestinian Muslim is running for Governor of Texas on the Democratic ticket and plans to spend gazillions of his own money to finance his bid (plus I’m sure many Al-Blahblahblahs donate, too).  As I told you, he’s an extremist who was honored by the pro-HAMAS, anti-Semitic American Task Force on Palestine.  And he refuses to openly condemn HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, etc. nor to recognize Israel’s right to exist . . . just like his friends at ATFP.  Plus he funds extremist girls schools in the so-called “West Bank” and employs extremists there, at his Chi plants.

Extremist Makeover: Tex Media Sob Stories Over Schlussel Exposes of Farouk Shami

But the Texas press don’t seem to get that.  So, instead, they’ve dumped on me and praised him as some sort of (fictionally) great American, instead of telling the truth.  The way “reporter”/gullible regurgitator R. G. Ratcliffe of the San Antonio Express-News and the Houston Chronicle, this is about Shami being a Muslim, rather than about his support for and involvement in extremist causes.  Neither paper asked him to denounce HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, and other Palestinian Islamic terrorist groups.  Nor did either paper ask him to recognize Israel.

They Murdered a Good Holiday Song

By Debbie Schlussel

Oy, it hurts my ears to hear these two “sing” it.  They tortured it to death.  And she was still dating Tony Romo at the time.  Blame it on him, too. Yuck. (Thanks to Hockey Dino–who is not former NHL player Dino Ciccarelli–for the tip.)

Growing Anti-Semitism in US: Masked Nazis Shout Obscenities @ Chanukah Ceremony

By Debbie Schlussel

As much as we hear the undue whining about alleged “Islamophobia,” Jews never flew planes into buildings to murder 3,000 Americans.  And yet the protests and religious hatred is, yet again, aimed at them.

maskednazischanukah

chabadfairfieldchanukah<

Take this latest instance of masked Nazis shouting obscenities at a Chanukah menorah-lighting ceremony. I am heartened by the reports that passersby yelled at the Nazis and waved in support of the menorah-lighters. (But I’m also disappointed because I see this every day, when I get e-mails from conservatives who are supposed to be on my side spewing anti-Semitism and blaming Obama and the economy on the Jews; and when Michelle Malkin links to and promotes openly anti-Semitic articles on the racist and bigoted VDare site (a site which hilariously attacks Chanukah as a “multi-cultural” fake holiday) and helps promote and raise money for those who praise and condone Holocaust-denying Muslim death, rape and torture threats on Jews, both of which she proudly did recently. Jew-hatred is no longer the property of the left.)

Pouring rain failed to dampen the spirits of a small group of families huddled on the Sherman Green gazebo to light a menorah on the third night of Hanukkah Sunday.

Neither did three masked men, who carrying Nazi flags and shouting obscenities, tried to disrupt the ceremony until they fled when police arrived.
