Weekend Box Office: “Sherlock Holmes,” “Nine,” “It’s Complicated,” “Victoria,” “Single Man”

By Debbie Schlussel

Nothing that spectacular new at the box office for this holiday weekend (though a couple of movies are okay).  Last night, I rented and watched, “Leon:  The Professional” (a somewhat violent but interesting and different movie about a hitman), and liked that better than most of ’em.  But, in case you are planning to go to the movies in the next few days, here are my reviews:

*  “Sherlock Holmes“:  Three words -pretentious, convoluted, silly.  I wanted to like this movie because I enjoyed reading the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  But this movie bears little similarity to or inspiration from Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective series.  The only things that are similar are the English accents and setting and the names Holmes and Watson.  Some critics–I’ve counted three already (from the Wall Street Journal to the Gannett wire to USA Today)–are calling this, “Not Your Father’s Sherlock Holmes.”  I just call it, Not Sherlock Holmes.

Holiday Read: Bethlehem’s Persecuted Christians

By Debbie Schlussel

Every year, at Christmas time, the anti-Israel mainstream media uses it as an excuse to do double duty on what they do every single day:  bash Israel and claim it’s “harassing the Palestinians of Bethlehem.”

islamiccrescent.jpgvirginmary.jpg

But we know who is really harassing the Palestinian Christians–the few left of them that there are–of Bethlehem.  The same group of Muslim persecutors who kill Christian Arabs all over the Mid-East.  I’ve written about them many times on this site. I’ve noted that Christmas is an especially stark time of fear for the scant few Christians left in Gaza, and noted that Last Rites in the Holy Land are truly the “last.” But it’s the same for Christians in Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, and in some parts of Lebanon (soon all of it).  And forget any sign of Christianity in most of the Gulf states and Iran, as well as parts of Africa.

It should be noted that these Christians often bet on the Muslims–such as the Palestinian Christians, who historically sided with Arafat against Israel (a notable example was Hanan Ashrawi, Peter Jennings former concubine, who was removed from the Arafat camp because she was a Christian).  But they bet wrong.  And the Muslims have shown them that in spades.  David Schwammenthal, a Wall Street Journal Europe editorial writer, has a must-read, “Bethlehem’s Persecuted Christians.” None of this is news to me, but it might be to many Christians who believe what they see on the nightly news.

Meet Yussuf Khoury, a 23-year old Palestinian refugee living in the West Bank. . . . Mr. Khoury fled his birthplace just two years ago. And he wasn’t running away from Israelis, but from his Palestinian brethren in Gaza.

To All My Christian Friends & Readers

By Debbie Schlussel

Haven’t put anything up yet today, because even though I’m Jewish and don’t celebrate Christmas, with everything closed tomorrow and me observing the Jewish Sabbath from Friday evening until Saturday evening, I had last minute things to do and errands to run, just like all of my Christian readers.  I will be putting up my movie reviews and I’ll try to put up some other things later, etc.

rabbiandsanta.jpgrabbisantatogether.jpg

But I want to take this time to wish all of my Christian readers a Merry Christmas.  As I’ve said so many times before, even though I do not believe in Christ, I do believe that America has resisted becoming a Muslim nation the way most of Europe has become and will ultimately be, because it has a strong Christian backbone and heritage.  The vast majority of Americans are still Christians. And so long as America remains a Christian nation (sorry, Barack Obama, it’s NOT a Muslim nation, as you’ve claimed), I know–G-d-willing–I’ll be free to practice my religion as a Jew, here.  As I’ve previously noted, most of Europe had a strong atheist strain and many of its Christians fell away from their religion and will to survive as a religious force.  And Islam entered to invade the vacuum.

While we haven’t had the resistance to Islamic immigration that we need and the fight against its refusal to be absorbed in American culture that is required, we are still years behind Europe because of so many Americans’ Christian beliefs.  A strong Christian America is a strong America.

I wish you a wonderful holiday, full of joy, family and loved ones, friends, good health, sustenance, warmth, and shelter.  And even though I do not celebrate your holiday, I appreciate the gift you give me every day:  your readership (and comments and tips, too).

Spurred by Schlussel Readers, Jimmy Carter’s Fake “Apology” to Israel, Jews to Aid Grandson’s Ambitions

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****

Recently, I told you about Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, and his plans to run for the Georgia Legislature from a State Senate district with a significant Jewish population.  I also wrote about how he refused to answer questions regarding Israel and HAMAS–his grandfather’s pan-Islamist politics–claiming those issues aren’t relevant to his race.  But, as I noted, they are relevant, because now is the time to stop him before he runs for federal office and becomes as friendly with HAMAS as his annoying grandfather.

Crocodile Tears:

HAMAS’ Jimmuh Issues Fake Israel Apology to Help Grandson Jason Carter

Some DebbieSchlussel.com readers who live in DeKalb County, Georgia and are potential future constituents of his contacted Jason Carter, at my suggestion, and asked him about his view on HAMAS and Israel.  I told the readers, though, that I don’t believe his response, no matter what it is, because his grandfather, Jimmuh, was extremely pro-Israel when he ran for President against Gerald Ford.  In fact, he ran to the right of Ford on many issues, domestic and foreign, including Israel.

Well, apparently, the news has gotten to his crotchety old HAMAS- and Hezbollah-lovin’ granddaddy, because Jimmy Carter issued an obviously fake apology to the Jews and Israel that is not only phony, but nothing less than sheer politics designed to help rescue his grandson’s political ambitions. Carter now says–after years of Israel-hatred and propagandizing–that he wants our forgiveness.  Sorry, Jimmuh, only G-d can forgive you.  And, sad for you, sometimes the sins of the fathers are visited on their descendants.

Mid-Week Box Office: Clever, Entertaining “Up in the Air” (But Also Depressing)

By Debbie Schlussel

I’m finally allowed to review “Up in the Air,” because it debuts in Detroit theaters, today. (The rest of my movie reviews will be posted tomorrow and after Midnight on Friday Morning.) And it’s among my top 10 or 15 movies of the year (will post that list, next week).

upintheair

The Jason Reitman-directed movie is funny, clever, and entertaining.  But it’s also depressing.  That’s because it’s about people who fire other people for a living.  And in this economy, especially during this holiday season, that’s hard to watch onscreen, since we see it every day in the current economically depressed situation throughout America.  It’s definitely not a “cheerful holiday movie.”

Stop Sending Me His False Video: Steven Crowder Pulls “Facts” Out of His Butt; Fake News Shown on FOX News

By Debbie Schlussel

For the last couple of days, many readers have been sending me a video on Detroit produced by Steven Crowder of PJTV and shown on FOX News.  Please stop sending the video to me.  Yes, a lot of ignorant conservatives, like the uber-ignorami at unHot Airheads, have been posting it on their sites eating it–and all the fiction therein–up.  It’s getting tens of thousands of views and is all over the Net.  Problem is, it’s mostly lies.  Detroit is bad enough, so much so that a great video on Detroit could have been made without making stuff up.  But making it all up is what Crowder did.  Hey, don’t blame him.  He can’t be bothered with actually looking up facts, ‘cuz he’s too busy making know-it-all, “edgy” (but not really) videos.  If you liked the video, you got punked by this self-styled “Conservative Punk.”

stevencroderfactchecking

Steven Crowder: What–Me Worry . . . About the Facts?

Pretty much every “fact” in his video “report” simply isn’t true.  Lies.  He should stick to his lame rap videos about Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize and leave journalism to people who actually care about presenting truth.  While Crowder may have spent two second video-taping the obvious decrepit buildings and houses around Detroit and some time putting snappy muzak on the soundtrack, what he didn’t do is the tiniest bit of research.  Because, ya know, that would involve work.  And why do that, when you can just utter fake “facts” you pulled out of your ass?

And lies like these must be why FOX News personalities like Sean Vannity and Greg Gutfeld like this lying performance artist and present him on their shows, Vannity as a “healthcare” expert (and the FOX & Friends gang even showed this false video, with its flat-out lies), now their “Detroit” expert, and at other times, their “expert” on other things.  And that’s why conservative “journalism” isn’t taken seriously.  One of the problems with many conservatives is that, while they complain about the lies and fake “facts” presented by the mainstream media, when it’s their turn, they do much of the same.  And with Crowder, he also tries waaaay too hard to be “hip,” in addition to trying way too little to present facts and truth.  As someone who lives in the Detroit area, I didn’t even need to do the research to spot at least ten lies and fake “facts” in his piece.  Some of them are major:

CROWDER LIE:  Crowder decries the UAW’s “job banks,” which he says continue to pay autoworkers not to work.

FACT:  Well, if he made his video a year ago, that would still be true.  But even over a year ago, the UAW already agreed in writing to end them, and they were mostly gone by November 2008.  The UAW Chrysler Job Bank completely and officially ended on January 26, 2009.  The UAW GM Job Bank completely and officially ended on February 2, 2009.  (Ford’s UAW Job Bank was also scrapped at the beginning of the year.)  Now, why would I want to watch a video that claims something that ended a year ago is still going on?  Like I said Steven “conservative punk” Crowder–who is trying so hard to be hip that he isn’t–isn’t trying too hard to give us actual facts.

CROWDER LIE:  Steven Crowder reports that there have been bear sightings in Detroit.

HILARIOUS Video: “Dumb 911 Call of the Decade” Awards

By Debbie Schlussel

With the scintillating brilliance of people like this (and sparkling brightness of people like Sarah Palin and “Kid Rock’s common sense ideas”), who needs terrorists?  America is doing its best to do the job all by itself.

Sarah Palin Wrote WHAT?!: Kid Rock’s “Common Sense Ideas”

By Debbie Schlussel

It’s sad that Associated Press used so many reporters to debunk Sarah Palin’s book, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” yet missed so many silly, hypocritical, and ignorant things she wrote in it.

sarahpalin2.jpgkidrock.jpgwhiteboyrick.jpg

That’s Conservative?

Sarah Palin Pimps the Kid Rock/White Boy Rick Drugs & Hos Culture

One of the glaring ones is her statement in solidarity with a thuggish former drug dealer and pimp who continues to promote drug use and pimping.  He’s no different than Snoop Dogg or Ludacris, but he’s a White guy.  And because he visits the troops, I suppose that makes this–and his urging of attacks on a judge who bothered to sentence him for one of his many physical attacks–all okay.  Yup, in her book, Palin falls prey to yet another rookie mistake other lesser-than, intellectually-challenged, ignorant Republicans make, falling for Kid Rock a/k/a Bob Ritchie.

On page 300 of the book, Palin wrote:

Kid Rock, for instance is very pro-America and has common sense ideas. . . .  The kids were happy–they got to talk to him on the phone.

Translation:  I am clueless, so I’ll go ahead and praise a piece of trash rapper and, since I’m really not that devoted to protecting my kids while I pursue my selfish ambitions, I’ll let them talk to this guy who promotes pimping, underage sex (forgot about Bristol, already?), and illegal drugs.  Because, hey, I want to be my kids’ friend, not their mom.  So, I’ll let them consort with America’s most prominent White purveyor of the Pimp, Drug & Ho culture.

Did Rush Limbaugh really praise this book as one of the best policy books he’s ever read? Come on.

Palin writes that she wanted Kid Rock to do a rally with her, but the McCain camp actually had the good sense to nix it. Gee, I wonder why. Apparently, they had the decency to do the background check on him they failed to do on her.

I could very well substitute the names “50 Cent” or “Snoop Dogg” into Palin’s sentence, because they all rap about the same stuff, brag about smoking the same amount of pot and being former drug dealers, and say they are pimps. Only Kid Rock, though, has a video circulating of his getting oral sex from groupie fans on the road. Yup, just who ya want your underage kids talkin’ to on the phone. Uh-huh.

Please, Sarah Palin, tell us one “common sense idea” of Kid Rock.  Perhaps modeling himself–as he’s always said–after convicted drug kingpin and murderer White Boy Rick a/k/a Richard Wershe, Jr.? Or threatening a judge because Kid Rock doesn’t want to do community service after his gazillionth attack on a restaurant patron?  Or maybe it’s some of these lyrics and statements made by this “common sense American patriot”:

Religion of Peace . . . & Somali Muslim Crime Sprees Across America

By Debbie Schlussel

Though he’s been out of office for almost a year, the Bush post-9/11 “legacy” continues.  Muslims mass-murdered nearly 3,000 Americans, and yet, he expanded and increased the number of Muslims he allowed to emigrate to the U.S. and invade our borders.  And now, as I noted yesterday, the Obama administration just made it even easier for them to seek asylum under false pretenses and remain here free to do as they please.

somalicriminal

Somali Muslim Shooters Mohamed Abdulkadir and Abdi Mohamed

Lately, “as they please” includes a crime spree by Somali Muslims across America.  Here are a few of the incidents just in the last few days–just some of the “peacefulness” the “Religion of Peace” is spreading across our once-great nation.  It’s not just that they go back to Somalia to become terrorists, it’s that they’re terrorizing innocent Americans on U.S. soil, over and over and over again.  Ask yourself, given these and many, many, many other incidents I’ve covered involving Somali Muslim criminals across America (from Seattle, Washintong to Maine), WHY do we continue to let them in?  Only idiots would continue to ingest cancer.

Somali Muslim Zakaria Wayso shoots a man and brags about it on his Facebook account – Minneapolis:

A Minneapolis man has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm after he posted a message on his Facebook page admitting he shot someone.

HOprah / HObamas Watch: Wow, They Are Really Milkin’ This Thing; Plus VIDEO Parody

By Debbie Schlussel

How could you forget Oprah’s “Christmas Pimpin’ America on the Obamas” prime time special (and trust me, it wasn’t “special” in any sense of the word)?  I mean, it was only on a week before last Sunday.  You know, the one where Obama modestly and humbly (and hyper-inflatedly) graded his woeful first-year performance as President, “a solid B+.”

oprahspecialtvguide

Well, in case you missed it–and many Americans did, as it did horribly in the ratings, getting beaten by football and other far superior entertainment–ABC is showing it to you . . . again. They know what’s “good for you.”  And, hey, it’s up against the ratings loser, “Jay Leno Show.”
