HA!: Val Kilmer Gets His For Dissing Vietnam Vets

By Debbie Schlussel

Remember Val Kilmer from “Top Gun,” “The Doors,” and, now, Fat Men Hate America?

For the record, I’m against the government withholding permits or otherwise punishing someone for exercising his/her First Amendment speech rights, even if what the person said is reprehensible, as in Kilmer’s case.  But, since he dissed Vietnam Vets who could beat his fat ass all the way to China, I enjoy watching him squirm (even though I oppose it–government should never tell you what to say or how to say it).

The Iceman Cometh: Val Kilmer Pays a Tiny Price for Dissing Vietnam Vets

I couldn’t care less what he has to say about New Mexico or its residents (though it’s funny to read his chutzpahdik utterances about them). It’s what he says about the brave American men–thousands of whom died in Vietnam in contrast to him living in comfort in a candy-assed profession–that’s the outrage. That’s what’s truly offensive.  The exact opposite of “Real Genius” (the title of a bad ’80s movie in which he starred).

When actor Val Kilmer recently applied for permits to turn his 6,000-acre ranch outside Santa Fe into an upscale bed-and-breakfast, several of his neighbors protested. . . .

The $200K Tax-Paid Zoo Billboard: Wonder Why Detroit & Michigan Are Failing?

By Debbie Schlussel

Michigan is nearly bankrupt.  So is the City of Detroit.  Both are deeply in debt.  Both are struggling to make ends meet.  And yet.  And yet . . .

Say Nice Things About Detroitistan: $200K Wasted on Detroit Zoo Billboard

Somehow, the Detroit Zoo–which, while now independent, is funded in large part by taxes and grants from both the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan–has $200,000 to waste on removing all of the paint from a completely fine (and fairly new) mural on a water tower next to the zoo, cleaning it, and posting a decal of the entire mural. The water tower does not contain water and hasn’t functioned as a water storage unit for decades. It is nothing more than a billboard.

Listen to My Interview on Israel, the Loosened Blockade, Iran & Obama

By Debbie Schlussel

Every day, I do radio interviews around the country and around the world.  Most of them are on terrestrial radio, as I rarely do interviews with online shows.  But, occasionally, I make an exception.  Last night, I did an interview with Jacob K, host of The Bibi Report, on which we discussed Israel, Iran, Islamic terrorism, the Middle East, Barack Obama, and U.S. foreign policy.  In his 20s, the guy knows his stuff, far more so than most of the people on terrestrial radio.  The audio is below.  Jacob is an Orthodox Jew, but the station on which his show appears is “Rapture Ready Radio.”  I do not know why.  For the record, I believe very strongly in my religion, do not believe in “rapture,” and do not endorse that idea.  I do, however, respect the religious observance of Christians.  My interview begins at about 35 minutes in.

MORON: Obama’s Immigration Chief Orders Release of ALL Violent Criminal Illegal Aliens; ICE Agents: “We’ve Lost America”

By Debbie Schlussel

Recently, you may have read reports that Barack Obama’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) chief, John “Moron” Morton, said he may not accept illegal aliens detained under Arizona’s immigration law.  But it gets worse. Far, far worse. Moron ordered ICE agents to FREE violent criminal illegal aliens until they are convicted at trial . . . a trial to which they will never show up (because they were set free to disappear). To that end, he’s dropped all reference to the word “detention” in an ICE reorganization.

Moron: Obama Immigration Chief John Morton Says

Set Violent Criminal Illegal Aliens Free on the Streets

Many agents within ICE tell me they are extremely demoralized because, until recently, Morton has instructed them not to detain and lock up illegal aliens unless they have a criminal record.  But, now, Morton told agents that even illegal aliens who are accused of serious crimes, like rape and murder, must be set free . . . until they are convicted.  Think these illegal aliens charged with serious crimes will show up for trial, once they’ve been set free? Think again.  This policy is clearly by design, and it comes straight from the Obama White House, the agents tell me.

Moreover, many ICE agents sent me a memo (posted later on in this entry) which Morton sent out, reorganizing ICE and changing the name of ICE’s Detention and Removal Operation to “Enforcement and Removal Operations.”  In other words, no more detention.  Almost all references to the word “detention” are gone.  Just more catch and release of illegal aliens.  So, what’s the point of having the I in ICE?  I’m not sure, and frustrated agents aren’t either.

In May, Morton made a visit to the Chicago ICE office. His statements and behavior dismayed ICE agents to the point that several of them told me “we have lost this country.” Here is one account which mirrors what I’ve heard from so many other agents within the floundering agency:

Morton showed up with his posse to visit our sanctuary city. They appeared at the Chicago DRO [Detention and Removal Operations] Office inquiring about the Secure Community initiative. One ass-kissing ICE lawyer who was part of Morton’s entourage told the agents they were “NOT” to lodge ICE detainers on [arrest and detain] illegal aliens despite the crime UNTIL they were actually convicted.

My Fave Summer Songs; What Are Yours?

By Debbie Schlussel

It’s the first day of summer. And these two, below, are my favorite summer songs. They definitely give me the feel of summer. You’ll notice I prefer the modernized Summer Breeze (Tsuper Tsunami Mix Philip Steir). (No, I don’t know who the people in the video are, but I’m jealous–their summer vacation looks fuuuun.)

What are your favorite summer songs and why?

Supremes Reject Wise Latina’s “Harmonica Lessons” on Terrorism

By Debbie Schlussel

As you may have heard, today the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of upholding laws against material support to terrorists in Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project.  As you may recall, back in February, I wrote a column about this legal challenge, and I’m glad that supporters of Islamic terrorism lost their specious argument that this was a violation of the First Amendment.  As you may recall, I reported that the “Wise Latina” Justicette, So-So, compared helping terrorists to mere harmonica lessons.  Fortunately, she was only able to convince two of her colleagues, Ginsburg and Breyer, of this stupidity.  Yup, 3,000 Americans murdered in one day, and that idiotette compared those complicit in the mass murder to harmonica teachers.

Most Supremes Didn’t Buy Wise Latina’s “Harmonica Lessons” Version of Terrorism

As I noted then, those challenging the law really had no interest in the First Amendment.  They had an interest in helping terrorists succeed and getting around our laws making it harder for them.  The cast of characters on the side of overturning the law was telling, including David Cole, lead attorney in the case.  As I noted, he’s  Islamic Jihad terrorist Sami Al-Arian’s brother-in-law, Mazen Al-Najjar’s lawyer.  (Thankfully, he failed in that matter, too, and Al-Najjar was deported.)

Can’t Afford College? Pretend You’re Iraqi

By Debbie Schlussel

When I read, the other day, that the Obama and Bush Administrations spent over $50 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars to  “clean up hazardous waste” in Iraq, I thought that was bad enough.  After all, that money could be better spent cleaning up waste here, including the oil spill in the Gulf.

welfarestateiraq

But it gets worse.  If you can’t afford to send your kid to college, too bad.  You’re sending some Iraqi’s kid to college.

The Obama U.S. State Department is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to send at least 400 Iraqi students to college, beginning this summer.  The State Department awarded grants to the Academy for Educational Development, which is funding the college education and all expenses for these Iraqis in America and 200 more Iraqis in Great Britain.  The money will also go to develop something called the Iraq Higher Education Advising Network and help Iraq to eventually send 10,000 Iraqi students to study abroad, all expenses paid.  And don’t be surprised if Americans are ultimately stuck with the bill for the entire 10,000.

Zero Tolerance for This Kind of Zero Tolerance

By Debbie Schlussel

I have mixed feelings on zero tolerance policies in schools.  When it comes to zero tolerance for drugs, weapons, and violence, I say, throw the bums out.

8-Yr-Old David Morales Learns the Meaning of Zero Tolerance Ad Absurdum

But then there are stupid, politically correct administrators who don’t understand the purpose and meaning of zero tolerance policies and take them to absurd levels.  That’s been the case with kids who have aspirin or medication they must take, kids who’ve worn pro-American, patriotic clothing and gear, etc.  But this latest example of “zero tolerance” ad absurdum really takes the cake.

Eight-year-old David Morales of Providence, Rhode Island is certainly learning early  in life that far too many Americans don’t support our troops and will use school administrative laws to silence him and violate his First Amendment rights.  Is there a sane person in this world who truly believes that toy soldiers on a hat violates a zero tolerance policy against weapons in schools?

Christan Morales said her son just wanted to honor American troops when he wore a hat to school decorated with an American flag and small plastic Army figures.

But the school banned the hat because it ran afoul of the district’s zero-tolerance weapons policy. Why? The toy soldiers were carrying tiny guns.

Father’s Day: I’m One of the Lucky Ones

By Debbie Schlussel

Today, Father’s Day, I visited my late father’s grave.  Even though he is no longer here, I am one of the lucky ones.  My father was ever present in my life throughout his.  And even though he is gone, his influence on me lives on.  (Read my eulogy and tribute to him.  He was an amazing and unique person.)

Me and My Dad

My father loved me and my siblings, he cared, and he taught us right and wrong.  My father instilled in us the importance of patriotism and love for America.  He taught us the courage of our convictions and the importance of being a good dad.  Even though he was a medical doctor, he was not wealthy.  He sacrificed making a lot of money to be ever involved in our lives.  Woven into his great sense of humor and occasional pranks he played on us, my dad taught us to be proud Jews and never take crap from anyone.

I once had a boss who told me, “principle is expensive,” and discouraged me from having any.  But it fell on deaf ears.  My father taught us that principle was the most valuable commodity, the most worthy treasure we could possess.  As kids, he took us to protests he organized–for example, when the Detroit Jewish community invited anti-Semite and Israel-hater James Zogby to the Jewish Book Fair to promote his hateful book.  Later on, my Dad helped me spy on Islamic charities and organizations in town and tips he gave to federal law enforcement led to raids, arrests, and shut-downs of funding, including the freezing of bank accounts that funded HAMAS terrorist attacks through the Holy Land Foundation.

My father always told me about how, as an Army doctor in induction centers during Vietnam, he was offered money by various parents to rule their kids ineligible.  But he never took these bribes.  He was drafted and served and was ready to serve on the front lines.  He felt everyone should serve America and do their duty when called.  My father made sure we knew the story when his friend, Dr. Isaac Poltinnikov, an eye doctor, was fired from his job by the Soviet Union, for the “crime” of trying to emigrate from Soviet anti-Semitism and persecution to a life in Israel.  Since Soviet parasitism laws forbade donations to the doctor, my father made up elaborate problems of the eye and sent them to Dr. Poltinnikov for his fictional consultations, so that Dr. Poltinnikov would survive.  But he also showed us the tragedy, when Dr. Poltinnikov finally succeeded in leaving for Israel, without his wife and daughter, who respectively starved to death and committed suicide, because they could no longer take the KGB spying and oppression.

And there are so many such things my father showed me, taught me, instilled in me–many of them outlined in the eulogy and tribute I gave to my father at his funeral and on this site.

But, like I said, I am one of the lucky ones.  Sadly, most people will never have a father like my dad.  Even sadder, today, at least fifty percent of American kids will grow up without a father at home.  And even sadder yet, the American conservative movement has adopted as its new spokesmodels a woman and her daughter who’ve glamorized single motherhood.  Yup, the Palins.  Bristol Palin–no different than single mothers with names like Lakisha, but for the bank account and gushing from the conservative movement–posed in glamorous “tea party” photos in fashion mag Harper’s Bazaar, along with her illegitimate son who has little contact with his father.  Because that truly is, unfortunately, high fashion, these days.  On “Good Morning America,” this week, she was promoting something called “co-parenting,” a nice liberal word for “Daddy doesn’t live here.”  Yup, welcome to the new “conservative family values.”  Same as the liberal ones.

Who needs Bin Laden and Islamic terrorism when we are destroying our country from within, creating so many future problems by bringing kids into this world without fathers?

And, then, there are the kids who don’t know their father truly cared.  They don’t know because he’s been vilified by mom, or he just isn’t present and they aren’t told the real reason why.  Such is the plot of one of my favorite movies, “Departures (Okuribito).”  And such was the reality for Ray M. Wong.  Wong’s Must-Read “In Death, Assumptions About Dad Melt Away,” from Friday’s USA Today, will bring tears to your eyes.  Even though, unlike his, my dad was always in my life, it brought tears to mine:

In Death, Assumptions About Dad Melt Away

By Ray M. Wong

I didn’t think my father cared about me. I left Hong Kong at age 5, when my mother divorced my father in 1968. My father never contacted me. I lived in America. He lived a world away. Then in 1996, at age 33, I returned with my mom to Hong Kong and met my father. I spoke only English. He spoke only Cantonese. My mother needed to serve as interpreter.

Weekend Box Office: “Toy Story 3,” “Please Give”

By Debbie Schlussel

I did not see “Jonah Hex,” which was not screened for critics, usually a sign that it’s a bomb.  But here’s what I did see:

toystory3pleasegive

* “Toy Story 3“:  This was a fantastic movie.  Great for you, great for your kids, great for your whole family.  Be sure to see it in 3D.

Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and the rest of the toys in the gang are back, but their owner, Andy, is now 17, and headed to college.  He’s cleaning out his room and doesn’t want the toys (except for Woody) anymore.  Andy’s outgrown the toys and hasn’t played with them in years.  He puts them in a garbage bag headed for the attic, but ultimately, they end up, instead, at a day care center, where they have to fight off an evil set of competing toys and abusive kids who don’t play nice with them.  They try to escape back to Andy’s house, but end up in other places first, including a landfill.
