Schlussel TV Guide: “Rubicon” – Great New AMC Show You Should Watch (FULL 1st EPISODE HERE)

By Debbie Schlussel

If you’re planning on watching “Mad Men” on AMC, Sunday Night, try watching the network a couple of hours earlier that night, so you can see the premiere of “Rubicon.” The show debuts at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. I’ve posted the first full episode below (it ran as a sneak preview, last week, on AMC). The second one begins at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

rubicon

Publicists for the show sent me a screener of the first four episodes, and I’m hooked! Since I don’t have cable (by design, so I’ll waste less time watching TV and stuff like “The Real World – Gazastan City,” Season 354), I’ll have to wait until the entire season comes out on DVD for the rest, like I do with “Mad Men” and “Damages.” But to most of the rest of you who do have cable, I recommend the show. It’s slow–a little too slow–but so are “Mad Men” and most other cable drama series.

But I really liked it.  This is my kinda show. It’s smart and mysterious and–so far, as I’ve only seen the first four episodes–apolitical.  If you like thrillers and intrigue as I do, this is for you.  If  you liked “The Parallax View” (read my review) or “Three Days of the Condor,” or if you’re just interested in national security and terrorism, you will probably like this.  Yes, Parallax and Condor were made from a liberal perspective, but as a conservative against big government nosing around in my life and too much federal power, I liked those.  It doesn’t have the action of “24,” “Enemy of the State,” or even “Sleeper Cell,” but, again, maybe it will after a few episodes.  This one doesn’t need action, though, to make it interesting. It’s clever and intriguing enough. Though I could have done without the positive nod to leftist ranter Thomas Friedman, who gets it right on almost nothing.

Attention, Terrorists, Illegal Aliens: Git Yer US Passport Here

By Debbie Schlussel

As I always say, America’s attitude toward fighting terrorism and the Islamic forces behind it is like the old Adam Ant hit from the ’80s, “Desperate But Not Serious.”  And now we have even more of it.  More of it that puts more lie to the claim that illegal alien amnesty and not enforcing Arizona’s immigration law are in America’s best long-run interests.

Shukran [Thanks], American Infidels, For Making It Easy for Me to Get a Great Satan Passport

Gee, if we can’t even enforce who gets a passport, how the heck are we gonna determine anything under illegal alien amnesty . . . like who’s been here for as long as they claim and whether their documentation of those claims is legit?

Attention, illegal aliens and terrorists:

Posing as someone else and using fake birth certificates and driver’s licenses to get a U.S. passport can still work. For the second time in two years, government investigators exposed a gaping hole in the country’s security by deliberately using fraudulent material to obtain passports.

Why is Catholic Church Enabling, Aiding Islamic Immigration?

By Debbie Schlussel

When Pope Benedict made a very mild criticism of Islam a few years ago, I warned that, in fact, he’s a hypocrite.  I told you that the Catholic Church actually panders to Islam and sharia all over the world, not just in its attacks on Israel, but in inviting some of the most extremist, anti-Christian Muslims to hang with the Pope at the Vatican.

popekeffiyeh.jpg

Recently, the Los Angeles Times noted that even in Rome, home to the Vatican, the Catholic Church actively panders to Muslims and accomodates–even promotes–Islam, going so far as to remove pork from its soup kitchens to accommodate Rome’s Muslim illegal aliens.  This Islamo-pandering isn’t just a danger to Catholics.  It’s a danger to all of us.  So, why is the Church doing that?  Is it political correctness or a foolish belief that, “if we’re nice to them, maybe they’ll convert to Catholicism”?  I don’t know.  Either way–and regardless of the reason–this is a danger to the West, in this case, Italy. When people tell me Sicily is still ruled by the mob, I tell them, no, it’s now ruled by Muslim immigrants who are fast becoming the majority there. We can thank the Catholic Church for making it easier.

Visually speaking, the John Paul II Canteen is more IKEA cafe than soup kitchen. Tucked away in a pleasant hillside neighborhood in Rome, it has clean lines, attractive furniture, track lighting and framed photographs, making it a welcome oasis for the immigrants who stream in daily from shelters, homeless camps and overcrowded apartments.

Have You Seen “The Infidel”?

By Debbie Schlussel

Someone on Twitter, Mickey Makpolo (you can also follow me on Twitter), asked me for my opinion on this trailer, below, for the movie “The Infidel,” which hasn’t been released here (or, at least, not in Detroit) yet. It’s a British movie, which came out there–in the United Kingdom of Islamostan–in April.

I’ve learned never to judge movies from trailers because they’re usually far worse than the trailers. But this trailer makes it look like the movie is mocking both Jews and Muslims and making them morally equivalent, as if somehow Jews treat and are as prejudiced against Muslims as Muslims are against Jews with the open, violent anti-Semitism they express on Western shores. I’m tired of the moral equivalence tack, which is often employed to defend Islamic terrorists, not just Palestinian ones–equating them with their innocent Jewish victims at pizza shops and bars and also their innocent Americans and Westerners everywhere else. Total baloney. And it’s already been done on film, in the horrid “Don’t Mess With the Zohan” (read my review), which essentially said, oh, the Muslims are oppressed as much as the Jews, even though the sheer stats of hate crimes say otherwise.

I’ll wait for the movie to confirm my impression based on the trailer. But like I said, the trailer is usually better than the movie, so it’s probably far worse than my early diagnosis. So, I’ll probably hate it.  Have you seen this movie? If so, what was your impression? Is mine accurate?

Video of the Day: Ahmadinejad Denounces Paul the Octopus as “Western Propaganda”

By Debbie Schlussel

We already knew that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was a loon. We just didn’t know he was this loony. Over the weekend Ahmadinejad denounced Paul the Octopus–an octopus in Germany which correctly picked some of the winners of Wold Cup soccer matches–as an arm of Western propaganda. Not kidding:

Ahmadinejad: Western Propaganda Via Sea Creatures

He said Paul spread ‘Western propaganda and superstition’.

‘Those who believe in this type of thing cannot be the leaders of the global nations that aspire, like Iran, to human perfection, basing themselves in the love of all sacred values,’ he added.

Paul represents decadence and decay among Iran’s enemies, the president said.

Here’s video of the speech with some funny “augmentation.”

Arizona Immigration Law Ruling: I Predicted This, Last Week, But Real Test is at Supreme Court

By Debbie Schlussel

Every Friday, I’m on the nationally syndicated Jim Sumpter Show at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  Last Friday, Jim asked me to predict the results of two legal cases–the Arizona v. Eric Holder/Obama immigration law case and the Rod Blagojevich criminal trial.

judgesusanboltonillegalaliens.jpg

Judge Susan Bolton Ruled for Illegal Alien Criminals and Invaders

I predicted that the federal judge in Arizona would rule that the Arizona immigration law is unconstitutional because judges are very political and tend to be liberal, as this one is.  I said that she’d likely see the law as racist and discriminatory and said against Arizona.  Sadly, I was right.  But it’s sooooo very predictable.  We’ve lost our country and our borders.

And even though at the time I made my comments I didn’t know that Judge Susan Bolton–the federal judge who issued the ruling, today, against Arizona’s immigration law–was a Clinton appointee, I knew.  I knew this would happen because these very comfortable federal judges making $200,000 a year in salary and benefits and having all the security and safety in the world have no worries like we do.  They have their jobs for life.  Federal judges don’t get fired.  They have to be impeached, which almost never happens.  No illegal alien will take their jobs.  No illegal alien will lower their wages.  No illegal alien will invade the federal building and take them hostage.  It just won’t happen.  They’re protected in every way from illegal aliens, so they have no idea.  No clue.

But the real contest is at the Supreme Court level.  Arizona will appeal this to the U.S. Court of Appeals. Whoever loses there will appeal it to the Supreme Court, and that’s where the real test happens.  Stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, in case you were wondering, I also predicted that Rod Blagojevich would be convicted by the jury in his case.  I bet I’m two for two on this.  Sad I was not wrong in the first case, though.  I wanted Arizona’s law to go into effect.  But even if she had held for Arizona, Obama and Holder would have appealed.  Like I said, see ya at the Supreme Court, amigos.

Whores: Right to Life Endorses Pro-Choice Candidate

By Debbie Schlussel

The problem with the Republican Party is that it gives us few good options against liberal Democrats.  And Right to Life–which mostly endorses Republicans–is a big part of that. It helps the crap rise to the top.

And it leads to candidates like Lois Shulman, a pro-choice hack who failed the the bar (THREE TIMES!) and is a lifetime member of pro-gun control, pro-abortion, pro-illegal alien Hadassah. (Another such Republican candidate is Andrew “Rocky” Raczkowski, who also failed the bar on several occasions, despite studying for it with his friend, convicted felon Kwame Kilpatrick, who passed.)

Lois Shulman: Right to Life’s Pro-Choice Candidate Owns Stem Cell Co

Yup, that’s who Right to Life of Michigan endorsed–and who House Republicans are helping and supporting–in next week’s August 3rd Michigan primary election for a House seat in Michigan’s 39th district encompassing part of suburban Detroit.  The thing is, Shulman, who recently divorced her equally sleazy and intellectually-challenged hubby, Marc Shulman, owns a good chunk (12.75%) of a stem cell company that works with and harvests embryonic and other stem cells.  It’s in their divorce settlement.  Embryonic stem cells.  The company’s “partners” are University of Miami researchers who work with embryonic stem cells. Does that sound “pro-life” to you?  And that’s in addition to the fact that, when they were married and Marc Shulman ran for State Representative, he took money from Hezbollah agent and convicted insurance defrauder Ali Jawad and Medicaid defrauder and Islamic terrorism supporter Ismael Ahmed.

I learned the hard way about Right to Life and its Michigan chapter, Right to Life of Michigan, which is headed by queen whore, Barbara Listing.  She’s a political prostitute if there ever was one.

My New Hero: Elton John Slams Arizona Boycotters

By Debbie Schlussel

I used to dislike Elton John.  But no more.  Over the past several months, the man has really earned my respect.  He’s shown courage and intestinal fortitude, first by refusing to get involved in the gay marriage issue in California (which is especially brave since he is openly gay and in a longtime gay relationship), then by refusing to boycott Israel and dissing those who do, and, now, by refusing to boycott Arizona and dissing the showbiz types who are doing that. (That’s not to mention his performance at Rush Limbaugh’s recent wedding. Reports say he got a cool mill for that one.)

arizonaflageltonjohn

This guy has cojones (and how he uses them in his private life is not my concern).  He’s an independent, critical thinker who doesn’t just do what’s hip politically in the entertainment industry.  That’s very admirable in our time of group-thinkism.  And he deserves our support for that. Check out this report from his Thursday concert in Tucson, Arizona. Yup, Elton John has more guts on the immigration issue than Barack Obama and his ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Chief Moron, John Morton:

Elton John didn’t mince words in slamming his fellow musicians for boycotting Arizona over the controversial SB 1070 immigration law. From the stage at his sold-out Tucson Arena concert Thursday night, John savored a few choice, not-so-family-friendly words:

Bush (NOT Obama) Made Deal on Libya, Megrahi Release; Obama Strongly Opposed

By Debbie Schlussel

**** Scroll Down for UPDATE ****

There are enough bad things about Barack Obama, so we don’t need to make them up. And in making them up, I mean the claim, over the weekend by an Australian newspaper quoting the Sunday Times of London & AFP (and a Drudge headline)–and the conservative seizing on it like red meat–that Barack Obama recommended the release of Libyan terrorist, Abdel Baset Ali Megrahi, who was convicted for his part in the explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.  Michelle Fraudkin, Matt Drudge, and virtually every other right-of-center source picked up and ran the complete lie.  Now that it’s been shown to be a total fraud, per their usual fakery, no apology, no correction, no nothin’.

presidentbush.jpgmegrahi

almegrahi

I warned people on Sunday that this was a lie. I told them this was a Bush deal all the way. And they attacked me for it because they were asleep during the Bush Administration. But let’s be intellectually honest about who is really responsible for the release of Libyan terrorist Abdel Baset Ali Megrahi. It was President Bush who began restoring relations with Libya, after making a deal with Libyan dictator Muammar Qadaffi, who agreed to inspections over nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. And, as I noted on this site, a few years ago, several oil companies, including BP, formed a lobbying organization, the U.S.-Libya Business Association–to restore full and complete ties with Libya. President Bush–not Obama–acquiesced to their demands, the first time the US has had full ties with this nutty Islamo-state since 1979. The deal was made in exchange for paying off the families of the victims of Pan Am 103, each of them getting $10 million.

But Qadaffi was slow in making the payments. And ultimately Bush and his friend and special envoy, Tony Blair, worked out a deal. Part of that deal was ultimately the release of Megrahi, and Bush paved the way for this. He dealt with BP and the others and made the deal at their urging. And, since Blair was also Bush’s special Envoy for Squeezing Israel, that was part of the deal, too. Israel gets squeezed, Megrahi gets released, families of Pan Am 103 become mega-millionaires, and BP gets to do bid’ness with Libya. Cheers, everyone. It happened during Obama’s reign, but it was a done deal, too late to stop. And you can think George W. Period.

But The Australian newspaper story, over the weekend, alleging that the Obama administration urged Megrahi’s release to Libya on humanitarian grounds in a letter, was seized upon by many prominent conservatives. And many conservative readers–who’ve never made a peep, unlike me, about Bush’s deal with Qadaffi–were suddenly blaming Obama with zero proof.  And it turns out it’s a false story.  Obama opposed the release all along.

Yesterday, the Obama administration released the letter in question. And, in fact, it says exactly the opposite of what the reports claim.
