Pete Rose, 25 Years Later: In or Out of Hall?

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****

Saturday wasn’t just the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks on America.  It was also the 25th anniversary of something less important but a part of American pop culture:  Pete Rose’s milestone Major League Baseball record 4,192nd hit, breaking Ty Cobb’s record.  Yes, it took place on September 11, 1985.  The Reds celebrated this, bringing Rose on the field before a game against Pittsburgh, and Rose was unanimously cheered, with fans chanting, “Hall of Fame!”

So, yet again the old question pops up:  should Pete Rose be admitted to pro baseball’s Hall of Fame, even though he admitted to betting on baseball, including Reds games (an admission in his 2004 autobiography)?  I say, yes, and that’s always been my position.  I know baseball writers hold players to a stricter standard than other sports, but my view is that if a murderer of two people, who is now serving in prison (O.J. Simpson) can be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as a repeat drug offender who now stands charged with soliciting a teen prostitute (Lawrence Taylor), why not Rose for baseball’s hall–whose crimes were far less, though not from a “game purity” standard?  Currently playing in the NFL are a dog-torturer- and -murderer (Michael Vick a/k/a “Ookie” a/k/a “Ron Mexico”), a guy who killed a man while driving under the influence (Donte Stallworth), and a murderer of three people (Ray Lewis).  Is Rose worse–or even as bad–as these guys and an assortment of other such thugs on the gridiron?

All of the criminals I mentioned above are Black.  Rose is White.  So, it begs the question:  are sports writers (many of whom vote on both baseball’s and football’s halls and who is admitted into them) racist?  Is their attitude such that they hold a White pro athlete to a higher standard and give Black criminals a pass?  Or is it a question of game purity–that the criminals never bet on the games they played or on the teams for which they played (as far as we know)?

Tim Gunn & the Diarrhea of TMI

By Debbie Schlussel

I used to like fashion/style guru Tim Gunn.  A childhood friend of mine directed some of his cable TV makeover shows, and unlike other gay personalities, he seems very professional and not so in your face about gay rights and politics.

But what a disappointment the man turned out to be.  This normally classy emir of good taste in savvy dressing has a new book out in which he’s struck by the virus that has sadly infected much of American pop culture:  the diarrhea of Too Much Information. In this case, the TMI isn’t even fact. It’s TMS–Too Much wild Speculation . . . meant to sell books.

Gunn’s father was an FBI Special Agent in Washington, DC. And, in “Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making It Work,” Gunn accuses his father of having a gay affair with J. Edgar Hoover, with absolutely no evidence to back it up.

Gunn writes that his father was a special FBI agent based in Washington. He was Hoover’s ghost writer for all of his speeches and books.

Funny Governator Back to School VIDEO

By Debbie Schlussel

A little behind on my Kimmel videos, but while this video isn’t that funny in the beginning, the end scenes say it all.  Still, can’t wait to see this faux-Republican fraud Governator go.  When all the conservatives were gaga over this steroidal mess, I warned he’d be a bad guy and a liberal after all.  And he disappointed in that he didn’t disappoint. No shocker . . . given to whom he’s married.

Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress & Why We’re Losing Against Islam

By Debbie Schlussel

The future is here. It’s just not widely distributed yet.

–Far-left writer  and Vietnam War draft-dodger William Gibson.

I hate to agree with a far lefty draft-dodger, but as they say, a broken clock is correct twice a day.  After 9/11, a few astute souls said that Islam is at war against America, while America is at the mall.  I would add .  .  . America is also mindlessly watching the boob tube and keeping up with the Kardashians and the bad Madonna imitation, Lady Gaga, and the idiots on “Jersey Shore.” Even People Magazine stepped down a few notches, once written at a sixth grade level, it’s now largely just a picture book for those at the pre-school baby mama reading level.  And last night’s MTV Video Music Awards is a great example.  MTV no longer plays videos, and it’s hard to call what populates the “winning” videos, “music.”  Yet, while we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam–fighting for our survival, America’s future and its present are obsessed with Lady Gaga’s “give-me-attention” meat suit and her panoply of similar “acts.” You’d hardly know that we just passed the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America with no end to Islamic terrorism and Islamic encroachment on American soil in sight (or ever).

Islam is @ War Against America; America is @ the Mall & Lady Gaga’s Meat Counter

I’d venture to guess that fewer than a tenth of a percent of Americans under 30 could tell  you what jihad is or anything about Islamic footbaths and mosques and other such religious encroachments and fatal dangers imposed upon America by the falsely-named “Religion of Peace.”  But a huge chunk, probably well more than 30%–maybe upward of 50%–know every detail of Kim Kardashian’s and Snooki’s dating lives, not to mention, “The Situation.”  (If you don’t know who these people are, I have mucho respect for you.)  Far more Americans know about Lady Gaga’s meat dress than those who know the details of Undiebomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab or his guru–guru to the jihad stars–Anwar Al-Awlaki.  Both Gaga and Awlaki are unoriginal in their provocations, but one is more worthy of our attention than the other.  And it’s, sadly, not where our attention lies.  Not even close.

Three Things We Must Remember on Every 9/11 Anniversary

By Debbie Schlussel

I’m back in blog commission, after observance of the Jewish New Year (Rosh HaShanah) and the Jewish Sabbath. And even though 9/11 is almost over, I couldn’t let the ninth anniversary of the Islamic terrorist attacks pass by without reposting what I noted on the same anniversary, last year. There are only three things to remember–three things we’ve sadly forgotten–on this day:

* Remember Who Was Murdered & Died on that Day:

Nearly 3,000 innocent people targeted and murdered in cold blood because they were Americans. People like my cousin, Jon Schlissel, who heroically went back to his office to save someone who needed help getting out.

My Cousin, Jon Schlissel, Z”L (Of Blessed Memory), Died on 9/11

* Remember Who Did It:

“9/11 Was an Islam Job” Graphic By Reader Doda McCheesle

This was the act of 19 Arab Muslim men. No, they weren’t “random” people acting alone. They didn’t “hijack a religion” or any of that other BS we’ve heard rotely regurgitated for eight years. Their religion–ISLAM–hijacked them, and it continues its slow hijacking of America because we continue to let their fellow co-religionists in.

* Remember Who Celebrated & Cheered:

Muslims around the world–Palestinian Muslims on the streets of Ramallah, Palestinian Muslims on the streets of Patterson, New Jersey, Shi’ite Muslims who were waiters and staff at a Mid-East restaurant in West Bloomfield, Michigan, Shi’ite Muslims all over Dearbornistan.

The biotch-let Katie Couric gives excuses for it (and blaming Israel–you know, blame the JOOOOS):

The Koran Burning and the Sudden Excess of Outrage

By Debbie Schlussel

Many readers have asked my opinion on the planned Koran burning on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks on America, by Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida.

While I do not support, embrace, or endorse the International Burn a Koran Day, and it is meant to unnecessarily provoke (and does a disservice to the efforts of those of us who oppose Islam but do not engage in offense like this), I view it as far less offensive than those who burn an American Flag on regular occasions all over America.  The American Flag is far more holy to me than a book which inspires mass murder of all of those who do not adhere to the strictest observance of Islam and its sharia (and often the mass murder of rival Islamic factions).

I also see the burning of the Koran as far less offensive than “art” sponsored by the U.S. government, such as “Piss Christ,” featuring a cross in a bottle of urine.  But Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder never spoke out against that.    Neither did the mainstream media.  Instead of saying to the Islamic world, “this is what America is about–we say and do what we want, no matter how offensive,” they are cowering to those who have already vanquished us on the anniversary of the planned event.  Cowering to the enemy never works.  It eggs them on.

UPDATE on Muslim Principal/Dearborn Public Schools Suit: Detroit Free Press Article

By Debbie Schlussel

Pulitzer Prize-winning Detroit Free Press reporter David Ashenfelter has an article  in today’s paper about the federal lawsuit my law firm announced on this site, yesterday, Brian Purcell and Georgene Stergalas v. Imad Fadlallah and Dearborn Public Schools.  I am not commenting beyond what is contained in the complaint, but I must set the record straight regarding a comment by the Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Bryan Whiston, as it is unfairly prejudicial to my clients, and if I do not correct the record, my clients’ reputation and cause of action will be unduly harmed.

islamiccrescent.jpg

In the article, Mr. Whiston asserts that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) “investigated” the claims and that “nothing was found to be valid.”  That is completely false.  In fact, as stated in the lawsuit complaint, we asked the EEOC to send us “Right to Sue letters,” so that we could proceed with litigation in federal court, after waiting for the EEOC to investigate the matter and seeing no movement.  Nothing was investigated by the EEOC, and no determination was made by the agency regarding the claims.  The Right to Sue letters, attached as Exhibit A of the complaint, state that.

MUST SEE: How US & Israeli Soldiers Celebrate Rosh HaShanah (WWII to Present)

By Debbie Schlussel

Below are vintage Rosh HaShanah postcards from my collection. The first two show Israeli soldiers guarding the border and praying on the holiday (some are wearing the white Jewish prayer shawls with black stripes) while protecting Israel. Yes, even on this holiday, soldiers who are religious must work to protect Israel from terrorist attacks (and so they pray wherever they find themselves on Israel’s front lines). What this postcard says to me is what we all know: the world doesn’t have the outrage against Muslim murders of Jews on Jewish holidays (or any other days)–or the Muslim murder of Christians on Christian holidays and other days of the week–that it has for one fringe Christian preacher burning the Koran in Florida (because their holy book is more important than our lives, right?).

The third postcard is from Arthur Levine, a Jewish American soldier serving in World War II, writing his relative, Jack Berkowitz, in 1944 on a Jewish Welfare Board postcard. The Jewish Welfare Board (JWB) was an organization founded during World War I, and it served as the American Jewish community’s effort to support our troops in battle. The organization provided all American soldiers–Gentile and Jewish–with postcards, care packages, portable games, shaving kits, and all kinds of stuff to make our soldiers feel valued and supported. Stateside, the JWB had welcome centers on or near most of the major military bases, giving soldiers food, drink, and a place to hang out.

Translation: “May It Be Your [G-d’s] Will That This Year is a Year of Blessing and Peace. A Year of Redemption and Salvation” [part of Rosh HaShanah prayer]

Translation: “[May This Year Be] A Year of Security and Peace”

Happy New Year (Rosh HaShanah)

By Debbie Schlussel

Tonight, at sundown, Rosh HaShanah–the Jewish New Year–begins. One of the two most important Jewish holidays (the other is Yom Kippur), it marks the beginning of the Jewish “Ten Days of Repentance,” during which we Jews repent for our sins and pray for a good new year. We believe that on Rosh HaShanah, G-d inscribes our fate for the year, and that at the end of Yom Kippur, that fate is sealed. It is one of the holidays that unites Jews around the world because most Jews–no matter how non-religious–celebrate at least part of this holiday in some way.

applesandhoney.jpg

On Rosh HaShanah, we traditionally eat apples with honey (and other items with honey) to signify that we seek a new year that is as sweet as that uber-sweet combination. (My favorite apples, BTW, are McIntosh.) The holiday ends at nightfall on Friday Night (at which point the Jewish Sabbath begins), so I will be out of blog commission at sundown tonight until Saturday Night.

During two days of intense prayer at synagogue, we hear the blowing of a ram’s horn (called a “shofar”), which makes several different kinds of sounds we are required to hear.  A little bit more about the Jewish New Year excerpted from my post on this in a previous year. My prayers will be the same as they were then (with a few added extras, now that we are stuck in the Obama era):

On Rosh HaShanah, a two day holiday, we pray in synagogue for a good new year of peace, health, and prosperity for ourselves, our people, and the safety of our country, the USA, which has brought us such great opportunity to live in peace and freedom. We also pray for peace in Israel, America’s most loyal ally and the only democracy in the Middle East, too. Unlike in many of America’s (and the world’s) mosques–where hatred of America, Christians, and Jews is the order of the day in sermons, prayers, the Koran, and the Hadiths–there isn’t a single prayer we have that mentions Islam or Muslims or harm to anyone.

Schlussel Files Federal Suit Against Muslim Principal, Dearborn Public Schools Over Discrimination Against Christians; HOW YOU CAN HELP

By Debbie Schlussel

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 7, 2010

DETROIT, MI–The Law Offices of Debbie Schlussel, a Detroit-area law firm, today, announced the filing of a federal lawsuit against Imad Fadlallah, the Muslim man who was, until July, the principal of Dearborn’s Fordson High School, a tax-funded public high school, the student body of which is overwhelmingly Muslim (more than 90%). The suit is also against Fadlallah’s employer at all times relevant to the actions referred to in the suit, the Dearborn Public Schools, which, as noted in the complaint, was aware of the behavior alleged in the suit.  As stated in the lawsuit, the action filed by Schlussel’s clients, Bryan Purcell and Georgene Stergalas, concerns the continued harassment of them by Fadlallah and other school personnel because they are Christian and not Muslim or of Arabic heritage.  The suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

islamiccrescent.jpg

As asserted in the complaint, this was part of Mr. Fadlallah’s grand plan to rid Fordson of non-Muslim and non-Arab teachers and to exact vengeance on teachers who did not comply with social norms of “the [Islamic] community,” when it came to Mr. Fadlallah’s alleged corporal punishment of students.  Read the Complaint in Bryan Purcell and Georgene Stergalas v. Imad Fadlallah and Dearborn Public Schools. (If you cannot read the suit in the embed below, please click on the lawsuit file and a much larger PDF version of the lawsuit complaint will pop up, or you can click on the magnifying glass in the embed.)

According to the lawsuit, Mr. Fadlallah is the cousin of the recently deceased Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, the spiritual leader of Hezbollah, who issued the fatwah [Islamic religious decree] calling for the bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks and Embassy in Beirut, killing over 300 U.S. officials and Marines.  Hezbollah is on the State Department terrorist list and is a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity (SDGTE).”  As also stated in the suit, Mr. Fadlallah is the son-in-law of Nabih Berri, leader of Harakat Amal [the Shi’ite Amal Militia], which has essentially merged with Hezbollah.  As alleged in the lawsuit, Mr. Fadlallah gave students the day off and extra credit to campaign against Christian candidates in the City of Dearborn and in favor of Muslim candidates endorsed by his associates at the Arab American Political Action Committee.

*** HOW YOU CAN HELP: The Law Offices of Debbie Schlussel is a one-woman, shoe-string budget operation, in which most cases involving the defense of Western values, including freedom of speech and religion for Christians and Jews, are taken on a pro bono [free] or contingency basis.  Your support for its continuing endeavors to continue to pursue matters such as the instant action is appreciated.  You can either use the yellow buttons on the right, or you can prevent the PayPal fees by going to PayPal and sending it directly to:  writedebbie@gmail.com.  No amount is too small.***

Purcell and Stergalas are award-winning teachers, both of whom have received national, state, and local awards, honors, and recognition for their teaching, and several of their students have also received national, state, and local honors, awards, and recognition. Both teachers created innovative, cutting-edge curricula for the Dearborn Public Schools District.  Purcell teaches science and math, and Stergalas teaches business and marketing.  Despite that, as alleged in the complaint, they were repeatedly harassed, and their work environment was hostile.

As stated in the complaint, Ms. Stergalas was approached by a Muslim student who told her Mr. Fadlallah hit him, and he asked for her advice.  She told the student to report it to authorities.  As a result, the harassment of Ms. Stergalas, directed by Mr. Fadlallah, escalated.

Included among the harassment described in the complaint, Mr. Fadlallah deliberately scheduled two separate classes during the same period of the day in opposite ends of the school building, making it physically impossible to comply with the schedule. This was done to both complainants, Mr. Purcell and Ms. Stergalas.  As further alleged in the complaint, Mr. Purcell and Ms. Stergalas were deliberately assigned the worst students, in terms of discipline and academics, in a measure to drive them out of Fordson High School. And, as stated in the complaint, students were encouraged to cause problems and fabricate false, negative reports against Mr. Purcell and Ms. Stergalas.

As also stated in the complaint, Mr. Purcell has Type I diabetes, and among Mr. Fadlallah’s means of harassment was to schedule Mr. Purcell’s classes at the times when doctors specifically noted Mr. Purcell needed to have his lunch break to take his required shots and medication and eat his required food, lest he go into shock.  As also stated in the complaint, Mr. Fadlallah forbade Mr. Purcell from required shots and eat his required food during parent teacher conferences.

The lawsuit claims violations of both the U.S. and Michigan Constitutions and statutes, including the First Amendment, the Fourteenth Amendment, the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Michigan’s Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act, the Michigan Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act, and the Michigan Whistleblowers’ Protection Act.  Both Mr. Purcell and Ms. Stergalas are seeking injunctive and declaratory relief, damages, and other relief.

As previously noted, the Law Offices of Debbie Schlussel is a private law firm, which in addition to performing other legal work, defends and promotes Western values, including freedom of speech and religion for Christians and Jews.  Debbie Schlussel also defends non-Muslims and moderates against unjust criminal allegations designed to silence them.  Among the matters in which attorney Debbie Schlussel has successfully prevailed, are:

Haitham Masri et al v. Ron Wolf, in which a Shi’ite Muslim doctor and open supporter of HAMAS and Hezbollah sued an indigent Jewish man, Ron Wolf, in an attempt to silence Mr. Wolf from talking about Mr. Masri’s unethical medical practices and the extremist Shi’ite mosque to which he belongs.  Schlussel represented Mr. Wolf pro bono and prevailed in getting the lawsuit dropped, as it was little more than an attempt by a wealthy Muslim to squelch the First Amendment speech rights of an indigent Jewish man.  Schlussel also exposed Dr. Masri’s fraudulent divorce, which was a transparent Islamic attempt to fraudulently convey property to avoid collection of judgments against him in American courts.  Mr. Masri’s daughter, Lena Masri, is a lawyer for a militant Islamic “civil rights” group.

People/State of Michigan v. “Haidar” [real name redacted for security reasons], in which Schlussel successfully defended “Haidar,” a moderate Shi’ite Muslim who was framed for a violent crime because he voiced his support for Israel and opposition to Hezbollah and married a Jewish woman.  Schlussel represented Haidar pro bono.  He was an informant for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Haidar’s primary accuser, Ali Taleb, is a wanted terrorist in Lebanon and an agent of Hezbollah, who lies in the Detroit area.  After a two-day trial in which the judge severely limited the exculpatory evidence Schlussel wished to present in her client’s defense, the jury returned with two unanimous “NOT GUILTY” verdicts for Haidar, after less than 25 minutes of deliberations.

Again, if you would like to support to the work of Debbie Schlussel, including legal fees and costs incurred in case of Purcell et al v. Fadlallah et al, you can either use the yellow buttons on the right, or you can prevent the PayPal fees by going to PayPal and sending it directly to:  writedebbie@gmail.com.  No amount is too small.  Your support means more efforts like those described herein.
