In honor of today’s Veterans Day, a number of major retailing and restaurant chains across America are offering freebies to veterans of and those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Sam’s Club, for example, is offering a free Hugo folding cane to vets (which continues through Friday, while supplies last).

Applebee’s Veterans Day: The Meal is Free for Vets & Active Duty; Drinks Aren’t.

Another is Applebee’s restaurant chain, which is offering veterans and active military personnel free meals.  Sounds generous, but it’s actually a clever marketing ploy.  While the food is free, the drinks aren’t.  And drinks are where most restaurants make the highest profit margin.  It’s where the money is.  I doubt most vets will order water, but those who do are really the only ones getting the free ride.  (Tips aren’t included, either.  But that is legit and always the domain of the customer.)  Denny’s does the same thing with their free Grand Slam breakfast advertised during the Superbowl.  The restaurant charges for drinks.

Bottom line:  Applebee’s makes money and looks good in the eyes of veterans and patriots.  Very smart move.

My late father, H.L. Schlussel, was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.  Most of his graduating medical school class was drafted because they needed doctors in Vietnam.  A good deal of these people were Jewish, and my dad told me that when they got off the plane at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, they had more than enough men for a “minyan,” the Jewish requirement of at least ten adult men for a complete prayer service.

After Vietnam, my father opened his private medical practice as an ophthalmologist.  Until about 1995, my father always offered free medical care to Vietnam veterans, never charging them for their visits and appointments.  He did this because he was so disgusted at how America treated its Vietnam War veterans, spitting on them and otherwise treating them like dirt when they returned home from Vietnam.

Because of the way they were treated and what they saw in a war we were winning (until America’s left-wing media lost it for us on the airwaves), many Vietnam veterans are still, today, reluctant to talk about their experiences.  One of them, David L. Dyer, finally opened up in an important and touching column.  Here is an excerpt of his Veterans Day piece:

I was never able to talk about Vietnam without my eyes welling up. I would always give the excuse that there was nothing pleasant about Vietnam, so why talk about it? Or I would change the subject or just leave the room. . . .

I’ve posted these pictures, below, several times before on this site. But they bear re-posting. They show the sacrifice, the agony, the emotion of those who serve so we can remain free. Without them and the grace of G-d, we might all be in burqas and keffiyehs, right now. And we certainly wouldn’t be free to say and do as we please. Without them, America would be a scary place . . . if it even existed at all.

Some people are upset that there’s no mail or bank service today, and government offices are closed. Others are happy that as government employees they get the day off. But the point is to take some time out–have some reminders–of why we are all free to continue our business, our lives, our families, our ambitions, our freedom of speech, religion, and everything else: because every single day, at risk of losing life or limb, they stand guard, so that we can continue our lives as we wish, without interruption or, worse, tyranny.

Today, I recognize and remember all of those who served, living and dead. I remember my own father, H.L. Schlussel, M.D., a U.S. Army veteran who served during Vietnam, my uncle, Maurice J. Schlussel, M.D., a career Army man who served during World War II and became the top U.S. Army medical officer for the South Pacific after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I salute my cousin, Damian, a career U.S. Air Force soldier who served in Iraq among many other “paradises.” And I salute all of my brave and courageous readers who took the time to serve our country, not knowing what they would face and sacrifice along the way, but joining the U.S. Armed Forces to keep America safe and secure.

Yes, freedom is costly. Today, thank all of those who expended time, energy, limb, and even life to bear that cost for us . . .

G-d Bless You All. And Thank You For Your Service.

And for those of you who dodged the draft so others could serve and die instead of you, shame on you.

It troubles me that conservatives–including faux-conservative Sarah Palin–continue to laud and gush over draft-dodgers like Ted Nugent, who should be behind bars for fraudulently obtaining a student deferment, though he was never a student, so he could go on tour, while other Americans his age died in Vietnam.

I’m also troubled that thousands of American men died and thousands more were maimed and lost limbs in the “service” of handing over Iraq from tyrant Saddam Hussein to even worse tyrants, the Ayatollahs of Iran. They served and did as they were told, but their assignment in Iraq was misguided, and it’s a shame. We gained nothing by being in Iraq. We only lost there. That is part of what Veterans Day is also about: respecting those who served, regardless of the assignment, the questionable assignment in the case of Iraq.

Is it just me . . . or are you also disgusted by the post-9/11 repeated donning of the Muslim chick scarf of oppression by American First Ladies?  Even Michelle Hussein Obama doesn’t look too happy in this contraption of chattel status.  It kind of takes the “Lady” out of First Lady.  More like, “You’re First Property, Bitch.”  Is this what American men and women died for?

I was sickened when Laura Bush did it, wearing this symbol of 6th Century regression in visits to the Muslim world.  Now, it’s even more sickening when Michelle Obama wore a rag on her head, as she and her moronic, pan-Muslim, anti-Israel hubby removed their shoes.  This photo, below, is sooooo unPresidential.  What–they murder 3,000 Americans with planes, try to murder more on planes with underwear and “packages,” shoot up an Army base, and try to blow up Times Square . . . and we reward their barbarism with having the wives of our leaders lower themselves to wearing their schmattas?  Disgusting.

Even more disgusting is Barack Obama’s attacks on Israel from this anti-Israel Muslim nation and his sickening level of groveling to Islam.  [We interrupt this post to ask whether Hot Airhead Ed Morrissey has yet gushed over this latest Obama pro-Muslim speech as “surprisingly good,” like he did for the Obama Cairo Muslim speech.]  This President and his wife bow down to these people, remove their shoes for them, and cover their heads with absurd looking scarves for these adherents of the religion of torture and abuse.  But Jews can’t live in 1,300 tiny apartments in Jerusalem, their capital city.

It’s about the only “positive” news in Detroit . . . and, in this case (and Detroit’s case), the word, “positive” is definitely relative.   Someone won $128.6 million, Saturday Night, in the Powerball lottery.  The winning ticket was purchased in Highland Park, a wholly surrounded suburb of and within Detroit.  It’s like a mini-Detroit in every way–decrepit, corrupt, deeply distressed.  The catch is that the ticket was purchased at the ironically-named “Uptown Bookstore,” which is anything but “uptown.”  It’s an “adult bookstore”–a porn shop.

Since the Saturday win, the winner hasn’t shown up to collect from the State of Michigan lottery offices (or wherever these things are collected upon).  And there is a lot of wonder and speculation in the Detroit media about why the winner hasn’t yet shown up.  A lot of people think he–and since it’s a Highland Park porn shop, it’s a safe assumption the winner is a “he”–is embarrassed to tell his wife, especially now that everyone knows where he bought the ticket.

I don’t buy it.

In general, “Neanderthal” is the word that might describe an airheaded pig who abandoned her family, actively promotes her baby mama daughter, took six years in six different colleges to finally graduate, and still hasn’t given back a dime of the money she promised after taking $100,000 for a tea party convention speech. That kind of selfishness and lower life form behavior is typical Neanderthal stuff.

But that’s not the word Sarah Palin uses for those things. No, she’s reserved “Neanderthal”–as well as “petty, little, superficial, meaningless”–for traditional mothers and those who advocate mothers actually raising the kids to whom they give birth, instead of handing them over to minimum-wage daycare workers to do it. Check it out in the video, below. And check out Palin praising Geraldine Ferraro for “breaking the glass ceiling,” when anyone with a brain knows that Walter Mondull picked her for only one reason: that she has a vagina (as far as we know, but only her gynecologist knows for sure). It sure wasn’t because of any other reason–like merit or brains or ability. Hey, just like Sarah (although unlike Palin, Ferraro’s husband showed he was very pro-family . . . Gambino family).

Palin went on to talk about “what the modern woman can accomplish.” The thing is, while many “modern women” have accomplished much, we can’t point to a single thing this woman–who quit her family, quit her governorship, and stuck her city with a giant tax bill for a boondoggle sports center she wanted–has, in fact accomplished. Unless fooling a lot of morons ripe for the fooling is an achievement. And if it were, Bernie Madoff would be the most accomplished man in American history, right up there with her.

A pregnant, devout Muslim illegal alien who ran a multi-state sex-slave ring (using 12-year-old girls) is about to give birth.  Yup, exactly the kind of anchor baby we want with U.S. citizenship and all the benefits that go with it.  Right?

I’ve been warning you about the Somalian Muslim immigrant crime sprees across America for several years now. I’ve mentioned the gangs, the murders, the rapes, the bank robberies, the terrorizing of old people and other Americans from Seattle, Washington to Maine. And I told you about Somalian Muslims in the Seattle area who kidnapped under-aged White girls and forced them to be prostitutes. And that’s not to mention the Somalian money-laundering to Islamic terrorists and the illegal alien smuggling rings for terrorists run by Somalian immigrants. You can thank President Bush for a good deal of this, since after 9/11, he significantly increased the number of Muslim immigrants from Africa coming to America and the Somalian immigration wave came largely under his watch. Some of them also came here under Bill Clinton.

Islamic Modesty: These Devout Muslims Ran U.S. Sex Slave Ring Using Girls Younger Than 13 . . .

So, news that law enforcement arrested 26 of 29 suspects in three states for running one of these sex rings (using kids YOUNGER than 13) is no shocker to me and shouldn’t be a surprise for you. It’s just an extension of what they were doing in Seattle.  The ring has been operating in three states for over a decade and the sex slavery began in 2005.  Read the indictment.

Check out the two women at the bottom of the mugshots, above, both of them wearing the hijab, the Islamic hair-covering that’s supposed to be the garb of modesty.  They ran this ring that enslaved 12-year-old girls and younger and forced them to have sex.  Yup, that’s “modesty.”  One of them, Hamdi Ali Osman a/k/a Big Hamdi a/k/a “Boss Lady,” orchestrated a substantial part of the sex ring.  And remember this whole story–of forcing 12-year-old girls to become sex slaves–whenever you hear the BS about “Islamic modesty” and how they deserve special rights that the rest of us don’t have, when it comes to airport scanning or separate gym and swimming hours at public facililties. Also note how most of them are smiling and almost none look ashamed. Religion of Peace, indeed.

Oh, and one other thing: Boss Lady/Big Hamdi is apparently an illegal alien, since Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has put a detainer on her. But no worries, she’s a “student” (probably courtesy of your tax dollars) and she’s pregnant with her own little anchor baby. For anyone who thinks we shouldn’t end birthright citizenship, please tell me why this sex trafficker deserves to give birth to a U.S. citizen who can bring her back to the U.S., one day, even if mommy Boss Lady/Big Hamdi is deported.

As you know, President George W. Bush’s Presidential memoir, “Decision Points,” is released tomorrow, and his big tour to sell the thing begins with an hour exclusive interview, tonight, with NBC’s Matt Lauer.  And, as I’ve written already, it’s somewhat unpresidential, including the former Prez’s absurd statement that the comments of a low-life rapper were the low point of his presidency.

Now, there’s another story, that while it might be somewhat touching is also icky and macabre.  And seems sensationalistic.  Bush claims that he knew he was pro-life and against abortion from the time he was a teen.  He says he became pro-life because his mother, Barbara Bush, miscarried and showed him the fetus she put in a jar to take to the hospital.  The former Prez says this made him pro-life because he realized that this fetus in a jar could be his brother or sister.

For the record, I am pro-life. And Bush claims that the reason he put this in the book is not to show why he’s pro-life, but to show how he and his mother developed a relationship.  Huh?  My mom and I bonded over a jar filled with her dead fetus?  Am I missing something here, or is this very bizarre?  I just can’t imagine previous Presidents–even Bill Clinton with his tacky mother–revealing such a macabre story. And by the way, Mrs. Bush was unaffected by the fetus, as she remains pro-choice a/k/a pro-abortion.

It’s nauseating, but no surprise.  A Clinton Judge with two last names, who spent considerable time in Ghana, sided with HAMAS fundraising arm/terrorism co-conspirator CAIR against the wishes of 70% of the voters of Oklahoma.  That’s what Federal Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange did today, in  blocking a Constitutional amendment, which Oklahoma voters passed overwhelmingly, last Tuesday.  Barack Obama was considering this woman as a nominee to the Supreme Court, FYI.

Miles-LaGrange took the side of CAIR’s Muneer Awad who claimed the law stigmatized Islam. Um, I think 9/11, Undiebombers, Times Square Bombers, Package Bombers, Fort Hood Shooters, John Allan Muhammad, 1983 Beirut, the hijacking of TWA 847, and many other things might be what actually stigmatized Islam. But, hey, that’s just me . . . and 70% of Oklahoma voters.

As you may know, the Oklahoma ballot proposal amended the state’s constitution, saying it would not recognize international or Islamic law (sharia).  Not only is that legal, but it’s an affirmation of both U.S. sovereignty (and Oklahoma state sovereignty) and the U.S. Constitution’s “establishment clause,” forbidding the recognition and establishment of any particular religion, in this case–Islam.
