Movie Coma Week: The Movies That Occupied My Days, This Week

By Debbie Schlussel

I’ve posted a lot less in the last few days and it’s because of my duties to you to review the upcoming onslaught of Christmastime movies.  As longtime readers know, I’m a film critic for the SiriusXM Patriot Channel’s terrific morning show, “The Mike Church Show,” and you can hear my movie reviews on the show, every Friday Morning between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. Eastern.  And I’m a member of the Detroit Film Critics Society.  Every year, we have a day when we sit through movie after movie after movie, so that we can vote, as every city’s mainstream media film critics do, on the movies of the year, best actor, etc.  I know it sounds fun–and pathetic to whine about it–but we waste the day away, sitting through a whole lot of bad movies for those one or two gems.  (Plus, we get a ton of movies in the mail, which we’re expected to watch, then cut up and throw out (or save and never ever lend out to anyone, lest we be banned from screening lists).  I’ve cut up and thrown out a heck of a lot, this year.)

This year, our movie coma days were Monday and today.  And I sat through a lot of stinkers.  Below is what I saw and the respective video trailers.  I only really liked one.  But that one was the year’s best movie, in my view.  Can you guess which one it is?  You’ll know soon enough–stay tuned for my reviews when the movies come out in the coming weeks.  And remember, this week alone, I sat through 12 hours of this for only 2 good hours, the rest of it garbage (and countless hours in other weeks).  That’s a whole lotta lifespan I’ll never get back. In many ways, I feel like a sifter in 1849, going through a lot of dirt for only a few tiny gold nuggets.  I’ll be letting you know my nominations/votes for the best movies, actors, etc. in the next couple of days. Again, here’s what I saw . . .

Judenrein Europe 2010: “Jews Must Leave Holland” (b/c of Muslims)

By Debbie Schlussel

First, the Jews had to leave Malmo, Sweden.  At the same time, a lot of them left and continue to leave France.  And, now, it’s the Netherlands.  All of it because of the new Nazis:  Muslims.  Yes, the “Religion of Peace” .  .  . and Judenrein.  Not just hints of Nazi Europe’s deportations, loud echoes of it.  Oh, sure, no one is “rounding them up.”  But the Muslims are making it such that Jews cannot live without fear to their safety anywhere in Europe.

That Was Then . . .

This Is Now . . .

Former European Union Commissioner Frits Bolkenstein said that Jews have no future in the Netherlands and recommended that they emigrate to the US or Israel, Dutch magazine Elsevier reported on Tuesday.

UPDATED w/ Video: Another Reason To LOVE Don Cherry (Commie “Pinkos” Video)

By Debbie Schlussel

Even if you don’t like hockey or sports, you will like this video of conservative Don Cherry telling off the “Pinko” Commies on the Toronto City Council.  It’s driving all the leftists in Canada mad, and I love it.  I’ve written about my love for the original Dapper Don before.

Don Cherry Gives New Toronto Mayor Rob Ford the Chains of Office

The well-known Canadian TV hockey commentator was invited to the inaugural meeting of the City Council of the People’s Republic of Toronto, as a guest of his friend, new Toronto Mayor Rob Ford (who was sworn in at the meeting).  And, in honor of the pinkos who hate him, well . . . he’s now the only real man I like in pink.  His comments were in the course of a speech to the Council.  In addition to telling off the “left-wing kooks,” he attacked “all the pinkos out there that ride bicycles.”  He talked about how the left-wing media constantly attacks him for honoring the troops and for going to church.

HILARIOUS VIDEO: Mike Tyson w/ Larry King

By Debbie Schlussel

This is pretty hilarious.  Question for Muslim Mike Tyson:  um, what is a “smuck”?  I know what a schmuck is (the image in Tyson’s mirror), but “smuck”?  I guess it’s a new Black-Yiddish term. Gotta say, I do love the dig about Larry King knowing more about women (since he married to eight of ’em).

No Feliz Chanukah From You, Raul Castro

By Debbie Schlussel

As part of his “Strange New Respect World Tour,” Cuban dictator and tyrant replacement bro, Raul Castro, participated in a Chanukah ceremony on Sunday with Cuba’s tiny Jewish community at Havana’s Bet Shalom Synagogue.  Supposedly, this is supposed to indicate Castro’s newly “reformed”  outreach to religious institutions.  And if Cuban Jews didn’t worry like everyone else in Cuba whose presence is “graced” by this monster, perhaps they would have said, “Adios, cabron.”  (And, since I dated a couple of Cuban Jewish guys in college, I know that they and their Miami-exiled families would say something far worse, which begins with the word, “chupa,” and ends with “mueras” or “muertas.”)

Chanukah Abomination: Castro Lights the Menorah

It’s no “Feliz Chanukah” for Cuban Jews, just like everyone else in that nation, while the Castros are in power.  The Castros are no friends to the Jewish people, Cuban or otherwise.  At one time, Jews made up 40% of the population of Cuba.  Many Jews went there to escape the Inquisition.  Others went there to escape the Holocaust, when they could not get into the United States.  And thousands more came in the centuries in between.  But most of the Jews in Cuba are long gone.  And they are gone for one reason:  Fidel Castro.

“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy” . . . or Will It?

By Debbie Schlussel

Sixty-nine years ago, today, on December 7, 1941, America was attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor.  We did nothing to merit this attack and were at peace with Japan . . . or so we thought.  America hadn’t entered World War II and this brought us in. But 69 years is a long time ago and there are few survivors of the Pearl Harbor bombing left.  Some estimates say there are only 3,000 survivors today out of the 60,000 servicemen on the Hawaiian island, that day. Our heroes from that day are dying out. The few that survive are very old, in their ’80s and ’90s.  Most sad, the national Pearl Harbor Survivors Association is considering disbanding.  Its national convention in Honolulu, this week, may be its last.

pearlharbor.jpg

2,388 U.S. military personnel were killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. 1,178 American servicemen were wounded. 12 ships were sunk or beached, 9 damaged. We lost 164 aircraft to total destruction, and 159 others were damaged.

And while, on December 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared in a speech to Congress that the day before was “a date which will live in infamy,” I’m not so sure. Not only are there few remaining survivors to tell their story, we are a country with kids and 20- and 30-somethings who are dumber and more ignorant than ever. I’d bet real money that a much larger percentage of them know the details of who Kim Kardashian is now “dating” (euphemism) than the details of what happened on Pearl Harbor Day. In ever dumbed down America, skankubines and babymama daughters of quitter governors on dancing shows–both of whose achievements are all based on something every small-brained animal does: having sex–capture America’s attention. History is, well, sooooo yesterday.

Happy 90th, Jazz Great Dave Brubeck (But Vietnam Protest Mars Record)

By Debbie Schlussel

I’ve been at Detroit Film Critics Society movie screenings all day (more on that later), but I can’t let the day go by without marking the milestone birthday of a great American musician, jazz superman Dave Brubeck.  Today, this ultra-talent turns 90.  And over his nine decades he’s contributed a lot to American music, for the better (though I definitely don’t agree with his musical protests during the Vietnam War, a noticeable hole in his otherwise positive contributions to America).  Brubeck’s sense of rhythm, tempo, and melody–and the ability to arrange them into great sound–is incredible.  And he’s a great jazz pianist, in addition.  As a composer, he wrote for orchestras and even TV soundtracks, including the “Charlie Brown” specials.

Dave Brubeck, Kennedy Center Honoree, 2009

As a kid, my father–a huge fan of music of all kinds, but especially jazz–passed on to me his love of jazz, taking me to concerts for all kinds of jazz musicians, from Chick Corea to Herbie Hancock to the Georges (Benson and Winston) to the Detroit Kool Jazz Festival.  He bought me some very cool CDs (and before that, cassettes) of his favorites.  And my dad’s favorite jazz musician, above all, was Dave Brubeck, individually, and the Dave Brubeck Quartet, as a group.  I have a great deal of Brubeck’s music that I inherited from my dad.  And my favorite is the very well-known “Take Five,” which Brubeck, himself, did not write.  His partner, Paul Desmond, wrote it for the Quartet, and it’s long since become a classic.

“Niceville”: Another “Israeli” Palestinian Exchange Student Who “Loves” America

By Debbie Schlussel

Hey, it’s another “Israeli” Palestinian Muslim exchange student who comes here and declares “Death to America!” Let’s hear it for those foreign students whose exposure to America is such a priceless benefit.

islamiccrescent.jpg

“Niceville”: “Israeli” Palestinian Muslim Exchange Student Says “Death to America!”

Earlier this year, I noted the annoyance of the mainstream media constantly referring to Palestinian Arabs as “Israelis” when they commit crimes, as was the case with Palestinian Arab serial killer, Elias Abuelazam, who targeted Black Americans.  Sorry, but while some of these “Israelis” may have an Israeli passport, they never call themselves, “Israelis.”   They identify with the Palestinians, support the Palestinians against Israel, vote for anti-Israel Members of Knesset who sympathize with HAMAS and Hezbollah, and often pay their taxes to the Palestinian Authority and/or Jordan.

And I’ve also noted repeatedly on this site that the claim that foreign students coming to the U.S. will make them love us is just a myth. Total bunk.  As I always note, the best example is the late Sayyid Qutb, Osama Bin Laden’s guru, and one of the most respected Islamic thinkers.  He absolutely hated America, and hated it even more when he left after a stint as a Colorado college student. And don’t forget American college student, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. How did that work out?

And, now, there’s another–the Palestinian Muslim with the “Death to America” stuff.  I’ll start with the umpteenth paragraph buried at the bottom of the story after a gazillion uses of the word Israeli:

The teenager’s family members are Muslim Arab Palestinians.

Keep that in mind as you read the rest of the story, about this Muslim student who wrote, “Death to America,” on the blackboard at Niceville High School in Florida. And, of course, the only thing his family learned from America is how to hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit.

An Israeli student dismissed from his foreign exchange program after reportedly writing an anti-American phrase on a Niceville High School classroom board was sent home Friday evening.

Shocker: Arabs, Muslims Cheer Israeli Forest Fire Massacre

By Debbie Schlussel

I’m sure you all remember the Muslims around the world who cheered the 9/11 attacks–from the Palestinians in the so-called “West Bank” to the Palestinians in Patterson, New Jersey, to the Shi’ite Muslim waiters at a Detroit-area restaurant to the Shi’ite Muslim students in Dearbornistan.  Yes, there were the well-manicured faux-condemnations from Muslim nations and organized Muslim groups (all of whom support terrorism and the Islamic terrorist groups,  which they refuse to condemn).  But the general population–which is the true voice–openly cheered.

Now the same is going on with the massive Israel forest fire massacre, which killed 41.

palcheers911.jpg

Back in Business:  Palestinian Woman on Ramallah Street Cheered 9/11 Attacks.  Now, Her People Are Cheering Carmel Forest Fire Massacre.

We still don’t know “for certain” who did it, but, as I noted last week, it’s certainly Arabs identifying with the Palestinians.  We know they are behind most forest fires in Israel, which don’t “erupt” by accident. There have been several conflicting stories regarding arrests of Arabs in connection with the fire or smaller fires nearby.

Again we see the cosmetic “condemnations” and crocodile tears about the Carmel forest fire, but the real way they and their people feel is reflected in the Arab media and on the Muslim street:

Many in the Arab world seem to be happy with the big fire that has been raging in northern Israel over the past few days.

GREAT Chanukah Video From the Maccabeats

By Debbie Schlussel

Even if you are not Jewish, I think you will enjoy this Chanukah video, featuring a group of guy singers from Yeshiva University in New York, who call themselves “The Maccabeats.”  It tells the Chanukah story with great singing done to the tune of a recent pop hit.  It’s already had over a million views on YouTube. I’ll interpret the two Hebrew parts for you. “Nes Gadol Hayah Sham” means “A Great Miracle Happened There”–something we say on Chanukah (in Israel, they say, “Nes Gadol Hayah Poh,” or “A Great Mirace Happened Here”). “Ma’oz Tzur,” means “Rock of Ages,” a song about G-d being our eternal salvation and savior against the enemies of the Jewish people, which we sing after lighting the Chanukah candles each night of Chanukah.
