We are past the midway point of the summer, the season when Hollywood is supposed to dazzle us with big blockbuster hits. And, so far, all I’ve seen is underwhelming. And, this weekend, we’re frustratingly served up more of it. None of the new movies in theaters today is particularly good. I’ll start with the relative “best” first, though I doubt I’d pay ten bucks to see any of these, and other than “The Conjuring,” I’d probably quit watching by the middle of these movies if I Netflixed them. (I did not see “Turbo.”)

* “The Conjuring“: This horror/thriller is somewhat scary and suspenseful. It’s also “based on a true story” and focuses somewhat on the real-life couple who are connected to the Catholic Church, perform exorcisms, and were involved in investigating the Amityville Horror home.

Ed and Lorraine Warren (in this movie, they are played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) exist in real life. Ed is the only non-priest and non-Vatican official recognized by the Church to do exorcisms. This movie explores his and Mrs. Warren’s 1971 investigation into a farmhouse that is possessed by Demons. Ron Livingston plays a trucker and father of five daughters. He and his wife (Lili Taylor) move into the dumpy, dirty, old farmhouse and, soon, strange things happen. Their dog won’t go inside, and something very disturbing happens to the dog. Then things are moved, clocks operate weirdly, people go missing and/or possessed, and so on. This has to be the dumbest story I’ve heard yet in the aftermath of the George Zimmerman acquittal. And I’m disappointed this idiot doesn’t make a mural out of iced tea, instead of just Skittles.

I guess I shouldn’t be amazed at the absurd beatification of violent, pot-smoking thug, Trayvon Martin, or at the level of baseless guilt on display by dumb, “sensitive,” White men. But Sean Murphy’s absurd mural and Skittles Trayvon “painting” are ridiculous. Watch this video (leave it to FOX News owned-and-operated Detroit affiliate–which is as far left as they come AND overseen by FOX News’ Roger Ailes to publicize this absolute dumbassity):

All of this reminds me of a similarly ridiculous mural of Malice Green, a coked-up, crack-addicted criminal who evaded Detroit Police. When they caught up with him, there was a struggle, and Green died of a heart attack. The two officers who arrested him, Larry Nevers and Walter Budzyn, were railroaded big-time and each did prison time after long battles in court. Federal Judge Lawrence Zatkoff was the only guy who saw through the charade, noted the prosecutorial misconduct (of prosecutor Kym Worthy) and gave these guys a fair chance and new trials. As I noted on this site back in 2008:

The “trial” show Worthy put on was so beyond the pale of a fair trial that Federal Judge Lawrence Zatkoff threw out the convictions and ordered new trials for the men. He wrote page after page in his decision about Worthy’s racially-motivated shenanigans against these two men. Since I am a fourth-generation Detroiter and live just four miles outside the city limits, many readers have asked for my reaction to yesterday’s bankruptcy filing by the City of Detroit. Longtime readers know that I’ve felt for most of my life that Detroit was already bankrupt–financially, morally, and otherwise. This just makes it official. Detroit’s mostly Black, mostly racist, mostly corrupt “leadership”–or lack thereof–led the city to this point, but it’s not politically correct to say this hard, unvarnished truth.

I was born in the City of Detroit, but I am the first in four generations of Detroiters who has never lived within the city limits (other than perhaps a couple months or so–if that–after I was born when my late father was doing his medical residency). I am the third generation of Detroiters who avoided the city like the plague and among three generations who were and remain afraid to go there because it’s a crime-ridden dump of a ghost town. The largest city in America ever to file bankruptcy should have filed long ago. This was a long time coming and very necessary to put Detroit on a path back to possible revitalization, though the odds are slim even with a successful emergence from bankruptcy.

A column I wrote on this site about Detroit’s race riots in the ’60s is now in a major textbook. And it’s not racist to point out that Detroit collapsed under the weight of decades of Black racist clowns running the city . . . into the ground. Charles Pugh, an openly gay fan of (anti-gay) Louis Farrakhan, was until recently the City Council President of Detroit. He apparently molested a teen he was mentoring and ran away from Detroit under cover of night. He was spotted in Seattle in hiding and was fired by Kevin Orr, the Emergency Financial Manager who is the only man in the last four decades with decency and common sense and the man who made the tough decision to file for bankruptcy. And he dragged Detroit kicking and screaming to that point. He’s from out of town and was appointed by the governor against the wishes of the majority of the mostly Black residents of Detroit. My new hero is Sgt. Joseph Chamblin, one of the Marines who was demoted and fined for urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban terrorist scumbags–you know, the schmucks who murdered American soldiers. And a giant STFU to the reporter who tells him that doing this would endanger American servicemen. Huh? They fear and respect us when we show them who’s boss, NOT when we act like this is a one-sided etiquette show. As I wrote a year and a half ago when the story broke: Remind Me Again Why I Should Be Upset That Marines Pissed on the Dead Jihadists.

Do you want the Marine Corps to be a group of Boy Scout pretty boys or do you want guys that will go out and kill the people trying to take advantage of your country and kill Americans? Which do you want? Because you can’t have both.

Amen, Brother! Semper Fi.

This is a real patriot and a man who really cares about America, while his critics are desk jockeys and schmucks who are lucky to have guys like him protecting their “right” to be a-holes.

American Marines were capture on camera and in combat uniform urinating on the bloody bodies of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Sgt. Joseph Chamblin was one of them. The incident happened in 2011 and he is speaking about what happened. The picture, below, is of my dear first cousin, Ira W. Schlussel, who is on the USA Hockey Team for the Maccabiah Games in Israel. The games, which begin on Sunday, are the Jewish Olympics. I’m very proud of my cousin (my late father, H.L. Schlussel, MD, and Ira’s dad, my uncle, Mark Schlussel, were brothers). He’s a modern Orthodox Jew like me and a tremendous athlete. Not only is he a terrific hockey player, but he could have been a pro golfer (he’s that good), were it not for his observance of the Jewish Sabbath (which interferes with most golf tournaments). In 1985, I was a finalist for the USA Tennis Team to the Maccabiah Games, but I got smoked in the first round of the finals tennis tournament in Philadelphia, so I’m doubly proud that a Schlussel–especially Ira, who is named after my late grandfather, Irving Wolf Schlussel–made it to the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

One other thing: it’s rare that I would link to the consistently far-left, anti-Israel, pro-Muslim Metro Times of Detroit–and even rarer that the paper would feature an article on Jews and Israel that doesn’t include a single negative word. But my cousin–who is a real mensch and like a brother to me–managed to do the impossible.

There are two things you should know about Ira Schlussel: The man loves God and he loves hockey. A passion for the fastest game on Earth happened around age 6, thanks in no small part to the players of the day, including Gordie Howe, Dale McCourt and the rest of the winged wheelers; it’s been his passion for 40 years. His relationship with God happened (most likely) at birth.

Schlussel, an observant Jew, will combine his two loves on the only ice rink in Israel — “The Star Spangled Banner” bellowing from the speakers, Stars and Stripes draping his chest — as a participant in the 19th Maccabiah Games, which begin this year on July 21. Read the rest of this entry »

Rolling Stone magazine, which called me, “That Jew Lady,” after 9/11, is a dying magazine. Nobody reads it. It gets an occasional moment in the sun, when it published an embarrassing comment (calling Joe Biden, “Senator Bite Me”) that forced a U.S. general in Afghanistan to resign. And recently, the magazine enjoyed stoking conspiracy theories galore against the Obama administration over a reporter that died in a car accident (um, when has Rolling Stone EVER attacked Obama? Magazine Owner Jan Wenner’s a huge Obamanik). Now Rolling Stone features Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on its latest cover, giving him the glamorous rock star cover boy treatment, romanticizing him as if he’s just a stoned lead singer of a band instead of an Islamic terrorist who blew up nearly 300 Americans, wounding hundreds and murdering four (including a security guard later on).

Rolling Stone is reveling in the attention the controversy has brought its dying brand, and clearly picked the cover by design for that purpose. And so I give kudos to CVS for refusing to carry the issue featuring Tsarnaev on the cover. Finally, a retailer has some guts, though it’s too bad the retailer doesn’t just dump Rolling Stone altogether, which would be an even more appropriate move. I’m glad CVS displayed corporate courage rarely shown in a politically correct world in which Islamic terrorists are “freedom fighters” and “legitimate resistance” and other such baloney terms.

Following a flurry of negative comments online, CVS Pharmacy announced it won’t be selling this month’s issue of Rolling Stone in their stores. ” As a company with deep roots in New England and a strong presence in Boston, we believe this is the right decision out of respect for the victims of the attack and their loved ones,” it said on a statement on Facebook. Below are his comments. Note the sexual references. Since the Martin/Zimmerman matter had nothing to do with sex (other than Rachel Jeantel a/k/a “Precious” claiming that she told Martin that Zimmerman might be a child molester), why was sex brought up? Because this guy is obviously the usual depraved, oversexed hate-mailer. I assure him (and you) that I–and especially my ass–do not look like Nancy Grace. Not even close. I’m never impressed when I hear someone went to Harvard. It means they went to a school rife with grade inflation, where students caught in a giant cheating scandal were merely given a semester off as “punishment” instead of being expelled, as they should have been. And in survey after survey of American colleges and universities, Harvard students are as dumb and ignorant of basic facts in American history and government as everyone else. Now, there is more reason to sneer at the university that has a vastly overrated reputation as the pinnacle of academic excellence: Harvard just established a hip-hip fellowship in the name of rapper Nas a/k/a Nasir Jones, an eigth-grade dropout, who is Muslim.

No word on what the Harvard Fellow studying hip-hop will find out, other than that his/her fellowship is a complete joke on America and academia. But maybe he/she can get a Ph.D. in how to speak and read and write cursive like Rachel Jeantel. Harvard says the person will be a scholar in the rich hip-hop tradition, whatever that means. Maybe someone can write a thesis paper on “The Multiple Meanings of the Ass Slap of Mrs. Jay-Z (Beyonce) During a Concert in Europe – You Know Datz Right.” Can you major in “You Be Illin’–The Complexities and Hidden Meaning of Run DMC’s Dropped ‘G'”? Yes, Jay-Z’s producer was a lecturer at Harvard for a year. Uh-huh. More:

While Black America continues to rage about Trayvon Martin, they once again demonstrate their sense of priorities and judgment are completely absurd. Take Aaron Hernandez and Carlos Ortiz. While Hernandez is not Black, he behaved as though he wished he were. His fiancee is Black, his associates were Black, and he hung out with Black thugs from the gangsta/hip-hop culture, even keeping a crash pad in urban Boston. And his close associate in murder is Carlos Ortiz, a Black man who was an accomplice in the murder (of another Black man) of which Hernandez now stands accused. Yesterday’s USA Today sports section had an interesting cover story about Ortiz and the culture in which Trayvon Martin seemed to be well on his way to being a part of (remember that Martin was serving a ten-day suspension for drugs–which is why he was in the gated community and confronted Zimmerman–and had a history of violence and theft).

Ortiz is 27 years old and fathered three kids with three different women–which I guess is a low number of each, considering the crowd with whom he hangs out (and with the hip-hip culture and all things Black influencing the rest of American culture, out of wedlock births went way up in White America over the last decade or so). In reading about Ortiz, I learned a new term: “government.” Nope, it doesn’t mean the leadership that makes the rules and runs the city or the country. It’s a new term for what Blacks used to call “your slave name”–a normal American name instead of the LaMarcuses, LaKeishas, and Tywannas of the world. While Black America and its White allies in hop-hop idiocy are angry–VERY ANGRY–over George Zimmerman’s acquittal for self-defense against Trayvon Martin, Black America’s killing fields continue to rack up dead bodies, 80%-plus illegitimacy rates, and a culture of violence far more offensive than a man trying to save his own life when Trayvon Martin was bashing his head into the cement pavement. Ortiz is yet another Exhibit A–his behavior and lifestyle are the accepted norm in Black America and have been for decades:

“Charlie” or “Charlie Boy,” as he is known, has a 4-year-old son with a woman who lives there — one of three children he has fathered with three women in his 27 years, friends say. Today is Tisha B’Av, meaning the Ninth of Av, a Jewish fast day which marks tragedies that happened on this day throughout Jewish history, primarily the day of the destruction of both of the Jewish Temples in Jerusalem, the eternal Jewish capital.

To my fellow Jewish friends and readers who are fasting today, I wish you an easy fast. To my gentile readers, Jewish fasts are not the wimpy Ramadan BS. We do not eat or drink for 25 hours, and it’s harder on a day like today, given that it’s 92 degrees where I live, today, and more like 102 degrees with the humidity/on the heat index. But unlike Muslims, we don’t whine about it or complain or demand that you stop eating and drinking and shove our religion in your face like the religion of Nidal Malik Hasan and the 9/11 hijackers does. We chose this, so it’s on us and we don’t seek to impose this on anyone else or demand special treatment. We also don’t ask the TSA to send out special messages to the world demanding they acquiesce to our every demand (the way the TSA did for Muslims during this Ramadan festival of increased terrrorism).

Tisha B’Av marks the end of three weeks (and nine days within those three weeks) of deprivation, sacrifice, and mourning in the Jewish religion (though, since most Jews are JINOs–Jews In Name Only–few Jews observe that). The fast began at sundown last night and ends tonight at nightfall. During the fast, we do not eat, drink, take showers, etc. Jewish fasts also mean absolutely no eating, drinking, bathing (no showers), shaving, haircuts, laundry, washing, swimming, make-up wearing, sex, wearing of leather shoes, music, or entertainment.
