Black Panther: Affirmative Action for Superhero Movies

By Debbie Schlussel

Unlike most other movie critics, I don’t believe in affirmative action in movie reviews. You don’t get graded on a race scale. And that’s why I’m not raving about “Black Panther,” in theaters today. It’s at best a middling, unremarkable superhero flick. It’s definitely nothing to gush over.

In a rare move for me (I think I’ve only done this twice before), I gave Black Panther a second look. When I first saw it at a super secret critics screening on Tuesday afternoon, I was tired from staying up late, getting up early, and working hard. Sitting in one of those reclining LazyBoy-esque movie theater chairs, I fell asleep quite a few times while watching this. Though I thought my slumber was because “Black Panther” was overlong (it’s nearly two hours and twenty minutes), poorly edited, dragging, and boring, I decided to give the movie a second chance after I’d had more sleep. So, I went to go see it a second time, last night. Same reaction: it made me sleepy because the movie is a bore. It’s overstuffed. And the plot isn’t all that great. It’s not the worst superhero movie I’ve seen, but it’s definitely not the best. It’s average, with some not so vague Black supremacist and anti-American overtones thrown in.

Yes, the gushing and drooling over this, that has been proclaimed by orthodox liberal movie critics and all of the establishment kings and queens of pop culture, is a lie. They are intellectually dishonest. They know this movie is blah. They know there’s nothing spectacular about it. If this were The White Panther, they would pooh-pooh it and give it average reviews. But White liberal movie critics have White guilt. Their hyperbolically effusive reviews of this movie are just like their votes and raves over Barack Obama–they like it because of the skin color involved–the skin color of the superhero, just as with the skin color of the then-Presidential candidate and, ultimately, President. White guilt and Black racism are no small factors in the crazy overhyping of this movie and the long crazy lines I saw for the movie in two theaters last night. It’s their chance to vote for Barack and Michelle all over again.

Black supremacist? Yes, the very beginning of the movie contains a short narration about the fictional nation of Wakanda. We are told that this Black African nation is the most technologically advanced, by far, in the world. They are great, while the Western world of White guys is a bunch of fighting, strife-filled jerks. This is laughable (as is the claim I’ve heard from some media figures, who claim this country that only exists in comic books and a movie, is the response to Donald Trump’s “s–thole countries” comment; um, they do realize this is fiction and the place doesn’t really exist, right?). In real life, as we all know, Africa is mostly Third World, backward, and technologically behind. And all of its technology comes from us–the Western world. But this movie pretends otherwise, and since it’s Black history month, that’s the arrogant and completely fictional history people will take from this movie–“history” created, I might add, by two old White male Jewish guys named Jack Kirby and Stan Lee (the far-left Lee makes his usual Marvel movie cameo appearance in this one). Who knew America would be rushing to see a movie that mirrors Black supremacist Louis Farrakhan’s racist “Mothership” fantasy?

Moreover, the bad guy in this movie, Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), is a Black former Navy SEAL, who wants to start a race war. He says that America taught him to kill the poor people of Iraq and Afghanistan (as if we were the bad guys and so are all the American men and servicemen who served there) and taught him to “kill my brothers and sisters” in Africa. That’s crap. America went to war in Africa, recently (or ever)? News to me. (And please don’t cite Somalia to me. That wasn’t a war.)

It’s funny to see Black America cheer this movie in which the hero tries to stop a villain who wants race wars; when the majority of Black Americans support Black Lives Matter and other groups and leaders (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, etc.), whose very existence is all about starting and continuing race wars. If only the audience cheered the destruction of race pimps and race warriors in real life. But in real life, they side with the race pimps and wannabe warriors.

I also hated the collectivism of this movie. It’s a kind of superhero Communism. The movie isn’t really about a single superhero a la Superman or Captain Marvel. Instead, the message is anti-individualism. One person never saves the day. The Black Panther a/k/a T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), who comes from Wakanda and becomes its king, has a host of characters in this “It Takes a Village” superhero flick. There are bizarre shaved-head Black women with spears and costumes that resemble a mix between African tribal garb and uniforms of the Beefeaters at Buckingham Palace. They have magical powers and great fighting skills with their spears. (The chief spear woman is played by Danai Gurira, whom I love as Michonne in “The Walking Dead.”) Then, there is also T’Challa’s ex-girlfriend and his sister. They are fighting superheroines, too. Together, they all combine to defeat Killmonger and stop him from using vibranium–the strongest, most superior substance on Earth, which, of course, comes from Wakanda–to perpetrate his race wars and rule the world.

There are a few comments in the movie by the Black Panther, about how he wants to open his country to refugees from around the world and help them. And there are comments against a wall. Um, no thanks. Keep your comments to yourself, comic book king.

As with many Black movies I’ve seen lately, there’s one token dopey White friend here: an inept CIA agent played by Martin Freeman of Bilbo Baggins “Hobbit” fame. He’s mostly an idiot, but he’s accepted and “okay” because he’s on the side of the Black superheroes, so they tolerate him.

There is also the issue of CGI–computer-generated images–upon which this movie relies heavily. Nothing wrong with that, as many superhero movies employ them. But the CGI stuff here was amateurish, obvious, and looked very fake–like it was from 15 or 20 years ago. Not up to snuff. And I hated the fact that the movie seems to play the beat of African drums every single second. It’s enough to give anyone a headache. Even a tribal king needs to watch a movie in peace.

Ryan Coogler, who directed this movie, has a race axe to grind. As I’ve noted on this site before, he attained his stardom by making “Fruitvale Station,” the Black Lives Matter movie which lies about a violent criminal and drug-dealing lowlife who was shot by police. The criminal is portrayed as an angel, the innocent police as scum. Then, he made what I call “Black Rocky,” officially known as “Creed” (read my review). This is the latest in his chain of race-based movies (all of which have involved Michael B. Jordan in the lead or in a major role). And it’s also a strong sign of his conceit: his inability to edit what is an overstuffed mess and cut it down to size. This movie could have been 45 minutes shorter.

There are some things I liked about this movie. I liked that the movie had stark good versus evil and didn’t blur the lines as far too many movies do, these days. Also, the costumes and the jewelry were incredibly cool and interesting (the movie was very high on style, much lower on substance and story though). I also liked that the United Nations has apparently moved out of the U.S. to Vienna, Austria. If only. And finally, I did like that the Black Panther and his gang of co-superheroes killed Islamic terrorists in a scene toward the beginning of the movie.

I didn’t completely hate Black Panther. I just didn’t love it. Or even like it much. After I saw it (both the first AND the second times), I said to myself, “That’s a whole lotta nothin’.”

I don’t give movies better reviews just because the cast has more melanin in their skin than I do. This movie is Exhibit A that everyone else seems to grade on a sliding skin complexion scale.

Don’t believe the hype. Black Panther is more like Slack Panther.

***

PS, the pretend conservatives at Never-Trumper National Review think this mediocre race movie is just fabulous. William F. Buckley is turning over in his grave.

    Agreed 1000%.

I remember the “Black Panther” comic books being touted back in the 1970’s – as noted, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. It was affirmative action in spades back then, too. And y’all know what they say about “the more things change” . . .

As for the “s-hole” comments: If any Whites are “responsible” for said African nations being such – but only “if any” – one factor (but only one) is liberal elitist “environmentalists” who have opposed technological modernization in the name of “saving the planet” – and to ensure the poor in those countries stay that way. Of course, this in no way excuses how the countries are run today in the very least, nor the culture that had existed long before these self-important elitists stuck their noses in.

I would add to your comments that the moslem dominated nations of Africa to this day allow and acknowledge the
RIGHT
of their ” propertied ” class to own other human beings as slaves.

Human slavery exists to this day
Thanks to the Islamic ” religion ”
Thanks to Arabian ” culture ”
Thanks to Africa in general

Great review.

Carol B on February 17, 2018 at 7:36 am

I wasn’t going to watch it at all. Now I know it would be a waste of time too.

Have you ever seen Hamilton? The left also raves about that.

So Bilbo Baggins shows up as the “Tolkien” white guy.

Steve G on February 17, 2018 at 2:29 pm

Well, that is “Affirmative Action” in this movie. It does look like an implicitly racialist flick.

Worry on February 17, 2018 at 5:10 pm

I can’t remember what issue it was, but years (decades)ago the Avengers kicked out Hawkeye (a founding member of the group) and replaced him with the Black Panther. In the issue Hawkeye called out the group and accused them of instituting quotes. It was a very powerful issue. I can’t imagine that issue being written today !

Jon T. on February 17, 2018 at 6:02 pm

Hawkeye was NOT a founding member of the Avengers! They were Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Ant-man and the Wasp.
Hawkeye was a villain who went straight and joined the Avengers after Iron Man, Thor, Ant-man/Giant-man and the Wasp left it. Captain America (who had replaced the Hulk in#3 or #4) then recruited new members, and Hawkeye was one of them, with Quick-silver and the Scarlet Witch.
Don’t confuse the movies with the original comics.

AMRatner on February 17, 2018 at 10:04 pm

The Avengers comic was great. I have the series where Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil took over Avengers Mansion and beat Hercules who took over for Thor almost to death.

      Ken B on February 21, 2018 at 9:27 am

Intellectually honest analysis and review. The review itself a pleasure to read worthy of one’s time. Interesting to see the influences movies such as this have on people. When they killed the islamic “terrorists” (that is, muslims practicing islam-proper), did the movie implicitly then give islam itself a free pass? That would be a bit like saying nazism would be okay if not for those pesky SS. I wonder.

Debbie’s movie reviews always a must-read for the insight to the influence on society. Debbie’s movie reviews head-and-shoulders above the rest.

Phil Lipofsky on February 17, 2018 at 9:31 pm

So, a film, that, if only by the name of its hero, invokes the legacy of a bunch of cop killers, anti-Americans and anti-Semites. The name ‘Black Panther’, all by itself is enough to place this movie in the garbage dump.

And conservatives like National Review like it? Almost all conservatives condemned Roy Brooks when he was running for Senate. While Brooks certainly was characterized by missteps, his loyalty to his country was never in question. While his wife made a foolish statement about an allegedly Jewish supporter, he never practiced rabid, open anti-Semitism. Brooks supported the police, he condemned cop killers. But Black Panthers are OK to these conservatives.

What if the hero’s name was Robert E. Lee? I’m sure all these mindless conservatives would be up in arms. Just another indication that they are less than worthless, that, while calling themselves conservatives, they are supporting the Republicrats uncritically.

        Ken B on February 21, 2018 at 8:11 am

We are not bitching about the movie, we are bitching about the false reviews touting this movie as 4 or 5 star, depending on your rating system. I love the Blade movies with Wesley Snipes and he’s a superhero who happens to be black. The Black Panther is a superhero because he is black.

Concerned Citizen on February 26, 2018 at 7:54 am

It does beg the question of whether Stan Lee was a supporter of the Black Panthers, not unlike conductor Leonard Bernstein’s little fundraiser for that outfit in 1970, that led to the coining of the phrase “Radical Chic.”

Mario on February 19, 2018 at 2:33 am

I’ve got to hand it to the left. They have come up with an ingenious, if disgusting way of attacking our country and its great heritage.

For most of the last century, the left, and its liberal supporters, while attacking this country, have supported some of the most evil men in history, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Ho Chi Minh, etc. They have not liked being on the defensive to have to answer for the crimes and missteps of these individuals.

Now, with the concentration on Black Lives Matter, and other ‘victimized’ groups, the left can attack the tradition and heritage of this country without having to answer for any crimes. While most, if not all of these victimized groups, on the whole, with some exceptions, have shown a capacity to mismanage everything they touched, their follies are obscure, and like many historical events, have become somewhat ambiguous, Further, it requires serious, objective research to unearth them, something that has become rarer and rarer.

The Black Panther propaganda today falls within this new approach. It is inconceivable that the term ‘black panther’ can be used without invoking the horrendous group of the 60s and 70s, but by accessing the Panthers of the 60s by an indirect route, the perpetrators of this new attempt at fighting America believe they can avoid answering for the crimes of the Panthers. When is a Panther not a Panther? And s it coincidence that all of this is happening during the 50th anniversary year of their heydey? This subtle dig at the rest of us must have the creators of the new Black Panther laughing and laughing.

I would not expect liberal critics to call the originators of the new Panthers to order. But I am disappointed, although not surprised that most on the right are also taken in. It indicates either that they are just stupid (which of course fits many of them), or simply opportunists.

Audience photos viewing “Black Panther,” by the way, reveal everyone in the seats to be black. In a way, that’s a good thing. We white folks have our own movies. And out of the need for personal safety, we tend to stay away from films with all-black audiences.

Let’s put it this way: If you’re white person at a theater trying to enjoy a movie and you hear a group of blacks in some nearby seats noisily chattering away, just see what happens if you ask them to keep it down. You may be taking your life in your hands. Anyone else here have a similar experience?

If you’re white, see the forthcoming (2019) sequel to “Frozen.” Guaranteed, no blacks will attend. They’re not interested in Princess Elsa.

When I was stationed in Oakland CA I went to see Malcolm X at the Grand Lake Theater when it first came out. The movie was great(I mean it has Denzel Washington)and the theater was an experience in itself. What had me worried was the gentlemen behind me told the people in front to stop talking as they had been during the first half of the movie. The talkers were eventually told by the ushers to shut it and nothing else happened. It turned out that the guys that told the people to shut up were Marines and the talkers were members of the Crips gang. They exchanged dirty looks when we all left but that was it. After that I try to avoid going to movie opening nights at night. That and what also happened in Aurora CO back in 2012.

    Ken B on February 21, 2018 at 10:11 am

There was so much that happened last week, that I’m posting my OT summary of last week’s real events, with, of course, my own unique analysis.

After the mass murders in Parkland, Florida, the FBI thought they were again going to get away with sweeping their latest deliberate failure to lift a finger to stop a mass murderer under the proverbial rug.

The Leftists then began to salivate. They just love mass murders and this one involved children, which delighted them to no end. Why? Because they believed this presented a wonderful opportunity to pursue their anti-Second Amendment agenda. To them, more mass murders automatically means more calls for gun control, an objective far more important to them than American lives. Americans are expendable to them.

The media also spread a lot of lies about mass murderer Nikolas Cruz, claiming, for example, that he belonged to, or was involved in, some “right wing” “White supremacy” group, which was a complete fabrication. The media, of course, never apologized for lying to the American public.

But, unfortunately for the lying FBI, the DOJ, and the Leftists, a fellow by the name of Ben Bennight stepped forward to announce that he reported Nikolas Cruz to the FBI because Cruz posted an ominous threat on Ben’s YouTube Channel on September 24, 1917, months before Cruz carried out the crime that he threatened to commit in his post. To knowledgeable people, this information meant that the FBI had more than ample warning of the threat that Cruz posed to others.

In response to this, Donald Trump, Jr. “liked” a Twitter comment that basically said that the FBI couldn’t be bothered with stopping mass murders because it had far higher priorities than stopping mass murders, like pursuing an anti-Trump political agenda. FBI Director Wray tried his best to cover up for the FBI and dismissed Don, Jr.’s and the Twitter poster’s completely accurate assessment of the situation.

The FBI, caught with its pants down again, lied again, as usual, by claiming they were “unable” to track down who Nikolas Cruz was, even though there were only about 13 individuals with that name that used that specific spelling, and even though the FBI routinely tracks down individuals who post on the Internet–when the FBI wants to–by getting their IP (Internet Protocol) addresses and then tracking the locations of their computers.

Then, it got worse for the FBI. Another individual stepped forward to announce that he/she called the FBI’s hotline in January 2018 about Nikolas Cruz in January, about a month before the mass murders, and provided information that indicated that Cruz could go on a killing spree. While the FBI thought they could fool most Americans with their lies about being “unable” to track down an Internet poster named Nikolas Cruz, they couldn’t get away with lying that they didn’t know what to do when they get information about dangerous individuals via hotline callers.

So, the FBI had to fess up, just a little, and announce that FBI “protocols” weren’t followed.

The counter response of Mueller & Co and the lying DOJ leaders was to come out with their “13” indictments of Russians. Their purported crimes? They used aliases on Facebook and Twitter and then made some political comments having no bearing whatsoever on the election or to Donald Trump. In short, Mueller and the DOJ served up a Nothingburger for the American public to swallow, to attempt to distract them away from the FBI’s failures, while claiming that they were going to “perform” an internal “investigation” into who in the FBI failed to do their jobs. Like the DOJ and the FBI, who have lied to the American public repeatedly and who managed to make thousands of critical emails mysteriously vanish, could legitimately investigate themselves?

Of course, most intelligent Americans don’t trust the media, don’t trust the FBI, don’t trust the DOJ, and understand that all those groups are infested with anti-American Leftist liars. Meanwhile, all the Left can do is to engage in mental masturbation, if not the physical variety, obsessing and fantasizing about Stormy Daniels and the 13 Matryoshka nesting Russian dolls.

Ralph Adamo on February 19, 2018 at 3:36 pm

Ralph – excellent post. I just briefly read about a gun show in Florida which had huge attendance. The adults are ignoring the students at that high school, particularly the leftist activist types who smeared Rubio (whom I don’t like) and Dana Loesch as being the equivalent of mass murderers like Cruz and accused Loesch of not caring about her children. My local newspaper’s editorial included the lie about Cruz being a possible member of a white supremacist group well after that lie was exposed. And those calling for gun control (eventual confiscation) are many of the same ones who oppose arming teachers and coaches. And I have to say Ms. Loesch got the MSM squawking when she said they like mass murders because it helps their ratings.

Promoted and praised beyond belief, but this is what the US has become. Multiple Oscar wins for a terrible movie last year and more nominations for another piece of trash this year, all because the films are written and directed by blacks. These films are not works of art, they are dreck.
But this is what the previous president has given us; a generation of people with an identity crisis. They were told for 8 years their thinking and actions were wrong, repeatedly diminished their history and achievements, and bought into it. So this generation of self hating white people, somehow believing they are less than, flock to this sub culture, it’s movie and music believing it is somehow superior and discarding their own rich history. “Black Panther” will never darken my screen

FrankB on February 19, 2018 at 7:10 pm

Oh, please. Plenty of films for the year 2016 were made by whites, and with white audiences in mind. See: Hacksaw Ridge, Sully, The Infiltrator, the BFG, La La Land, Jackie, Silence, Cafe Society, Arrival, The Jungle Book, Manchester by the Sea, Hail Caesar, Doctor Strange. And a lot more.

Just an FYI . . . The Black Panther character and original comic series had no connection to the Black Panther Party. The character was originally conceived by Jack Kirby (born Jacob Kurtzberg) and Stan Lee (born Stanley Lieber) as Marvel Comic’s “Batman” in early 1966. The Black Panther Party did not come into existence until after the first Black Panther story was published in the summer of 1966. If anything, an argument could be made that the Black Panther Party’s leaders were inspired to assume their name from the comic book, rather than the other way around.

While both Kirby and Lee wanted to create a hero who was a black man as their idea for promoting racial equality in the super-hero biz, the original character and stories weren’t political at all. In fact, after the Black Panther Party began to make headlines, the comic book mavens attempted to distance themselves from it all by referring to the T’Challa character for a while as the “Black Leopard,” rather than the “Black Panther.”

It’s also worth pointing out that others had tried to bring the Black Panther comic series to the screen at least two decades ago, but the idea was rejected then.

Ralph Adamo on February 20, 2018 at 3:08 pm

Remember the far-left Lowndes County Black Panther Party in 1965?

This is apart from the continuity of this nefarious name and designation.

Little Al on February 20, 2018 at 9:22 pm

The name of the group you refer to did not go by the name “Lowndes County Black Panther Party” in 1965 or 1966. The name of the group that you’re thinking of was called the “Lowndes County Freedom Organization” or the “LCFO.” Stokely Carmichael then worked for the LCFO, and its primary activities then were to increase the black vote in Alabama.

The LCFO did have use a black panther as a mascot/logo, which it used on its letterhead. The black panther logo was created to contrast with the white-dominated local Democratic Party, whose mascot/logo was a white rooster.

The Black Panther Party, founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, however, did not come into being until months after the first publication of Marvel’s Black Panther comics in the summer of 1966. And, as I’ve mentioned, Jack Kirby and Stan Lee had been kicking around the idea well before the first publication.

Therefore, there’s no evidence that Kirby or Lee were making any political statement or reference to any organized movement when the storyboards for the series was in development. And none of their stories carried any particular political messages, other than the general concept of racial equality.

Based on the timing of the origin of the Black Panther Party in October 1966, if anything, Newton and Seales copied the LCFO’s logo and the name and concept of the “Black Panther” (becoming the personification of the animal) from the Marvel comics published earlier that year.

Furthermore, we shouldn’t allow the name or animal “black panther” to be hijacked by the Black Panther Party or Organization or anyone else. The football team Carolina Panthers, for example, uses a black panther logo and uses the name “Panthers,” but I don’t think most people associate the team in any way with the Black Panther Party or any of its iterations. Nor do I think any political statement was being made when the team’s name was created.

Ralph Adamo on February 21, 2018 at 1:57 am

No, there is no evidence except for logic. It is reasonable to believe that Stan Lee, in creating a black superhero, would have followed events in the Black Community closely. The Black Panther was indeed a symbol of the Lowndes County Party, and anyone following developments among Blacks, as a creator of a Black superhero must be supposed to have done, would have known that, even though no evidence is available. Sometimes you just need common sense.

Also common sense, what would stick in the mind of someone more, the name “Lowndes County Freedom Organization” or Lowndes County Black Panther Party, a name which was certainly current, and publicized among leftists during 1965?

Black Panther being hijacked? It is already irrevocably linked with Black militancy, and as I mentioned in the above post, Lee and his cohorts had a choice regarding the type of Black superhero they wished to create. Leftists do not need to hijack anything, the anti-American tradition is already there, and fellow-travelers, in the tradition of supporters of Stalin, Mao, Castro, Kim Il Sung, etc., should wake up and not spend their time justifying something that is unjustifiable.

Millions of Black people, including many thugs in the NBA and NFL know instinctively that this movie is anti-White. Is it too much to hope that educated, intelligent persons who have been long-time contributors to this blog would be able to realize the anti-American aspects and traditions of this movie, and stop making apologies, however pedantic, for it?

Once again Mr. Ralph, with a rational sensible post! Now these ignorant bigots can shut their mouths. Its a comic strip for goodness sake

DisgustedAtYouPeople on February 20, 2018 at 4:07 pm

There is one more aspect of Black Panther comic and movie history that bears mentioning.

During 1966, when the Black Panther comic was hatched, Black Nationalism was beginning to enter the mainstream of Black thought in this country. Malcolm X was already a martyr, and organizations like SNCC (Student Nonviolent [sic] Coordinating Committee) had raised the slogan of Black Power shortly before the first comic was released. Even if the comic had been put together before the Black Power slogan was raised, the trends were clear. And of course anti-white feelings were being manifested on a mass basis in the ghetto riots and their aftermaths.

Yet Black nationalism did not have a monopoly on Black thought. Martin Luther King was still the foremost Black leader, and Bayard Rustin and Roy Wilkins, although past their primes, still were respected and had large followings. Even three years later, Richard Nixon’s approach of Black Capitalism found significant support within the Black Community, although Black and White leftists were critical of it from the beginning.

So in creating a Black superhero, Lee had a choice, Would such a person advance separatism like Malcolm X and those influenced by him, or would such a person try to work constructively in our present society. Unfortunately, separatism won out, and today it is taken for granted that a Black superhero must be estranged from current society. But it didn’t have to be that way.

I have always been fascinated by the ingenuity and imagination of those on the left who justify the criminal actions of the leftist heroes, I have always hoped that this inventiveness could be used to society’s benefit rather than in justifying Black Panthers, Che Guevara, Muslim fanatics, etc.

Great review Debbie. It’s a much needed change of pace from the usual reviews on TV and in print. Just like the feminists had their buzz cuts in a twists about the Wonder Woman movie so it’s the same with Black Panther and Black leftists. One actually wrote that Black Panther would save Black America from our evil racist President. It’s comical but that’s the way some of those people think. As for watching the flick. I’ll wait until the crowds to die down because I’m a big comic book buff and love superhero movies. My prized possessions being the fourteen issues of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition. These babies came out in 1985 and fellow comic book geeks know what they are. Want to guest what bio I just got done reading.

Ken B on February 21, 2018 at 8:54 am

And let”s face it, the Lowndes Black Panther was a symbol of militancy, a little more than just registering people to vote.

Huey Newton and Bobby Seale had heard of the Lowndes Black Panther, but Stan Lee, I guess was wearing blinders, and, innocent that he supposedly was, had not heard of it.

It is naive to think that black power mouthings were not present in the Lowndes organization. The 1966 Black Power slogan did not arise out of thin air.

Little Al on February 21, 2018 at 12:12 pm

Speaking of Black Superheroes. Has anyone watched Black Lighting on the CW.

Ken B on February 21, 2018 at 1:56 pm

After all this nonsense back and forth and watching society go into hysterics over a comic book movie, I have no interest in seeing the film. Its been ruined, I probably see it yrs from now.

DisgustedAtYouPeople on February 21, 2018 at 3:59 pm

Everyone, has the right to there own opinion. But let’s just celebrate that this movie brought many people together. Let’s not be negative to people’s success. Let’s appreciate people’s hard work and effort. I have yet to see the movie and I will eventually see it. But I want to be happy for others and not be a hater.

Eagle on February 22, 2018 at 7:14 am

And of course, Lee, planning to create a black superhero, would hav been expected to follow events in the Black Community closely including the far-left, anti-white Lowndes County Black Panthers,

What do you think members of the Carolina Panthers would say in their majority, if asked about the Black Panther Party? Would they want the name of their team changed? After all, we all know the high level of patriotism in the NFL.

Little Al on February 22, 2018 at 7:34 am

I skimmed Armond Whites review at National Review and he seemed to hate it. He tends to go against the consensus view a lot in his reviews. I am tempted to see this just because I can’t believe all these critics love it so much. I thought the original trailer was pretty boring and this whole Wakanda thing in third world Africa seems pretty ridiculous.

LA, I don’t believe the facts support your argument that Kirby and Lee had any intention of creating or promoting racial conflict or an anti-white reaction. None of the original stories in had any such political messages. The closest they came to that was in a story arc surrounding the T’Challa character and his fight against the KKK. And I’ve been always listing Kirby’s name first when mentioning the cartoonist team for a reason. Kirby was really the lead creator of the cartoon series, and years before the first published issue, Kirby developed a black lead character he called the Coal Tiger. While more recent writers for the series may have incorporated overt political messages, there’s no evidence of that in the early years of publication, despite Lee’s liberal inclinations.

And as for the Carolina Panthers, the lack of patriotism lately demonstrated by NFL players doesn’t make the origins of the name Carolina Panthers political. According to Panthers president Mark Richardson, son of owner Jerry Richardson, they chose the Panthers name because “it’s a name our family thought signifies what we thought a team should be—powerful, sleek and strong.” And, Jerry Richardson is far from a liberal. In fact, he was recently hit with lawsuits alleging, among other things, that Richardson is racist because he expressed a preference that black players not wear dreadlocks and made a racial slur about a black scout for the Panthers.

Ralph Adamo on February 22, 2018 at 4:32 pm

Jerry Richardson is right. For the last decade, the NFL has seen a plague of black players who grow Rastaman dreadlocks, as if to taunt white audiences everywhere. And they grow their hair to the point where it covers their last name on the back of their jerseys and extends almost down to their asses. I’d love to see a defensive players grab hold of those locks and drag the player to the ground.

Primetime on March 1, 2018 at 12:49 pm

Already happened, Primetime, and I haven’t watched the past two seasons. IF this post goes up, a LOT haven’t, too numerous to mention, including my first and only other one on this article. Probably going to take a break for a while. The software doesn’t seem to like me.

DAUP, I don’t think that video demonstrates anything, except the leftist bias of the editor. Regardless of what you may think of Donald Trump, regardless of whether you agree with him or not, and even regardless of whether you hate him or love him, when it comes to marketing, salesmanship, and showmanship, Trump is one of the best imaginable. That was evident in his SOTU address and it was on full display in response to the Florida mass murders.

Now, some may claim that when Obama responded to another mass murder of children that he wasn’t trying to do marketing, salesmanship, or showmanship, then you’re simply not being objective. Do you think Obama’s sad face and his attempt to make a show of whipping a tear from his eye with a finger were not the actions of an actor attempting to market a position or make a show of the tragedy? Then you’re not being objective. They both are actors and they both are engaging with varying levels of success at showmanship.

And that is my point. Trump is a far better showman than Obama ever was, even if you disagree with Trump or hate him. Consider the following powerful video clip that features the grieving and angry father talking about his murdered daughter at a meeting with President Trump. No script. No bullet points. No preplanned messaging. No propaganda. No BS. Just reality. A bitter, tragic reality. But reality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvxF9HG16CA.

If you can show me something comparable on video that Obama has ever done, please let me know. I love to be proven wrong and I get tired of always being right. 😉

Debbie – another great review. When I heard about and read all the reviews of the movie being wonderful, fantastic, etc., I knew something was up. That something consisted of liberal movie critics who are afraid of being called racist. The audience score for the movie has been in the 74% to 79%, which is decent for a movie, but if the movie was as good as the movie intelligentsia make it out to be, that audience rating would be much higher, considering that many of those going to see it are black. When you hear that yes, the movie is wonderful and fantastic, but then on the other hand some of these same critics refer to the special effects and dialogue as not great, you know the fix was in. And some of the critics referred to the movie as being political.

Wakanda is an ethno-state which doesn’t allow immigration, uses it national resource of vibranium to make itself technologically superior, and has a king and not an elected representative body such as a Parliament or Congress and no prime minister or president. Isn’t this the type of country the lefties are accusing Trump of wanting? And the racial stereotype of black women being the warriors and not the men? That’s black culture in the USA which creates all these problems. Africa’s better countries were controlled longer by Europeans. The idea that Africa is in the condition it is in because of Europeans is false. But the makers of the movie are implying that Africa would be magnificent if not for those colonizer whites. Yeah, right.

Great and truthful review! I HATED this movie. Yuck. Way too long and you know it sucks when I was rooting for Kilmonger (however, the plot confused me and I didn’t even know his name…and I kept thinking he was a Wayans brother…which may have improved the borefest…) because at least he was bad-ass and really tough while the King was a real wuss. Even thou’ he was a SJW and BLM.

So lame. I agree with DS…lots of style and no substance. I started to think the flick would turn around once Michael B. Jordan took over (he wasn’t a Wayans brother after all…) but they added a wicked lame Deus ex-Machina that made me hate this long, boring slog even more. ZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Keep dreaming American blacks. You will never feel the great power America offers you (right in your hands the whole time…like Dorothy in Oz…) ’til you’re smart enough to get yo’ asses off the Libtard WHITE Plantation and rectify the catastrophic 75% out-of-wedlock babies you pop out when not aborting these little ones. Over 90% of y’all vote Donk. Whitey ain’t controlling you…you let the effete, duplicitous ones trick you thou’. Wake UP!

Refreshing to see a truthful review of this eye-rollingly lame flick.

Hey, Skunky, you can’t say Debbie didn’t warn you. Anyway, here’s a rap video you may appreciate with some socially relevant commentary from Chapter Jackson. It’s called “It’s Free — Swipe Yo EBT.” I’m told this is satire, but it seems all too real to me.

Ralph Adamo on February 27, 2018 at 10:31 pm

Awesome post Skunky and like you along with Debbie said this movie was lame and too long. Like you I was rooting for the bad guy. What made it worse was people were talking throughout the movie and several cell phones went off with stupid ring tones. Thank God for Cinema Cafe’s beer and pizza deal…LOL! You’d also need to watch out girlfriend. Liberal Blacks will have a cow over those stats you listed. Especially the over 90% voting Dimwitocrat. You know how most liberals don’t like the truth.

    Ken B on February 28, 2018 at 9:12 am

LOL, Ken B. The truth does hurt. I also had a full cinema. This movie was such a dud…I had put my winter items on thinking there would be 15 more minutes of stupid nonsense and sat there bored for 45 MORE minutes! Oy vey es mere!

I went to avoid “Peter Rabbit” but I just should have seen old Pete. I normally would have, but the commercials had annoyed me…but not as much as this goose of a movie did. LOL, I DID root for the bad guy because the good guy was wimpy and made ZERO impression on me. What a bunch of hype behind this dopey film. Gosh. I liked Halle Berry’s “Cat Woman” more (not because she was a black super hero but I remember liking little things in that film when I had expected a train wreck…and that was the last super hero film I saw that was a huge goose).

At least you had beer and pizza! That must have made it *almost* worth it…I’d hate if I would have to FAKE I liked this dud…I think some lame libtard chick (white) tweeted she was NOT gonna see the film when it opened as not to appropriate black peeps’ joy. LOL, what a fart-knocker. Libtards are absolute nutters, LOLOL!

Skunky on February 28, 2018 at 1:26 pm

OT item. I’ve previously written about the FBI’s blatant failure to protect American lives, focusing on the latest mass murder Parkland case in Florida. It’s public knowledge that the FBI had more than ample information and warnings to surveil Nikolas Cruz, but chose to do nothing. The FBI, in response, has lied repeatedly to the public about their failures. But it’s not just about CYA for the FBI.

I know that Debbie has coined the term–Famous But Incompetent–to describe the FBI, but I don’t believe that “incompetence” is the root of the problem. There are much darker, more sinister and dangerous forces at work, and you can see that clearly if you pay attention to all the facts of this latest case, as well as other mass murder cases where the FBI also did nothing to intervene.

However, I must point out that I believe that taking guns away from the law-abiding public is but one plank of the Deep State agenda that the FBI is doing its part to promote. In addition to this, the FBI has proven that it has much higher priorities than gun control alone. For just one example, when Clinton met with now-former DOJ head Loretta Lynch in the infamous tarmac meeting, rather than being concerned about the flagrant abuse that was obviously involved, the FBI’s most pressing concern was working to determine who leaked this important information, that should have been made public in any event.

In short, the real problem at the root of our national security problem, is that the FBI is a political organization, not a security organization, and the lives of Americans are totally inconsequential to their political activities.

And, if you’ve been closely following the reported news, you know that the government and the media have been working full time on the gun control agenda and only recently began to address the flagrant law “enforcement” failures until significantly later.

Since then, however, newer information has come to light that proves that Sheriff Israel and his Broward County officers also failed to do their jobs, again, with more than enough ample information and warnings of the threat to American lives. But what you don’t know and haven’t been told by the mainstream media is that they too have political priorities, and the lives of Americans are also totally inconsequential to their political activities.

Although Sheriff Scott Israel likes to pretend that he’s a Jew, at best he’s a JINO, but is probably more along the lines of a Daniel Burros JINO. (Look him up if you don’t know who he was.) Sheriff Israel is not only a Democrat, a strong gun control advocate, and strongly in favor of putting or leaving criminals on the street to carry out their criminal activities, but is also strongly pro-Islam and pro-CAIR.

Thus, the voters of Broward County bear significant responsibility for the horrendous murders in their own district. Voting has consequences. And when people vote for a pure Leftist-agenda representative like Scott Israel, they are, in effect voting for a recipe for disaster.

So, what are the real political priorities of Sheriff Israel and his team members, since protecting American lives is last on their list (if it’s there at all)?

One of their priorities has been to advance the career of Nezar Hamze. Who is Nezar Hamze? He is the Regional Operations Director and Chief Executive Officer for the Florida chapter of CAIR. Previously, he served as CAIR-Florida’s Executive Director. Currently, the Executive Director of CAIR-Florida is Hassan Shibly who, in August 2014, tweeted, “Israel and its supporters are enemies of God.” Besides CAIR, Hamze has been active in another group which is located on the United Arab Emirates terror list and operating within America, Islamic Relief.

The following video explains some of Sheriff Israel’s priorities:

IF, and I’m sorry I have to keep qualifying it but I do, this post ever goes up. And the reason that I do is because so few have over the past several weeks, through a few articles. With what must be going on in her life, it’s simply not fair to Debbie to bother her with it.

I want everyone who thinks anything I’ve ever said in five years on this web site is worth anything, to read what Mr. Adamo said again carefully. It is all too true.

The United States will NEVER be great again, because it, like all other empires and types of governments is prophesied to fail. Although Mr. Adamo, Debbie and others are narrating the fascinating on the ground details of the demise of “this once great republic,” this is really all written in Heaven.

The United States cannot right its ship and ultimately succeed and remain forever, because human self governance is a fatal flaw. The United States was a nice try. Perhaps even God, Jesus and the Angels clapped over the “nice try” by His children.

Read deposed King Nebuchadnezzar’s dissertation after he came to his senses in the wilderness, seven years after his overthrow.

Nice try, United States, but the cancer from within will rot you out and put you down.

But The Lord will come, and put things right, . . .

forever, and for everyone. THANK GOD!!!
