Buh-Bye, Ted Koppel . . . And Good Riddance!

By
Tonight is a time for celebration. Why? Ted Koppel is leaving ABC News and “Nightline” forever.
Koppel (whose real name is Ed, not Ted) made his career off the backs of America’s hostages in Iran, who spent well over 400 days in captivity. And Koppel’s nightly broadcasts about them–which morphed into “Nightline”–didn’t help their plight. No, Koppel’s constant nights of attention to the Islamic hostage-takers in Iran helped Islamic terrorists, not just those under yesterday’s Ayatollah Khomeini, but today’s Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi and Osama Bin Laden.

That Small?: Ted Koppel Describing the Size of Something Besides His Huge Ego and Enormous Leftist Arrogance

They knew–with the advent of constant attention to their evil acts, whether hostage taking or the murder of 3,000–that they would get nightly attention to their demands. And nightly attention to their demands is exactly what Koppel gave them. Nightly consideration of their point of view.
Consideration of the “other point of view”–no matter how evil, no matter how dedicated to America’s defeat–became the hallmark of Koppel’s career. In fact, with Koppel, it wasn’t just consideration. It was sympathy for the “other” point of view, no matter how absurd.
Then there was his snideness, his arrogance, his smug leftism–all under the facade of “journalism.” Conservative point of view or policy? Koppel always managed to deride it with his biased brand of snoot.
His snooty manner extended even to his phony, incorrect accent in mispronouncing Hebrew names and words, which didn’t fool anyone who knows or speaks Hebrew. If only it were just the mispronunciation that was the problem. Koppel’s unabashed pro-Palestinian terrorism slant in the disproportionate “Nightline” coverage of Israel was as obtrusive as a plus-sized model in a Victoria’s Secret catalog.
Don’t believe the hype over Ted Koppel in all of today’s mainstream newspapers. He wasn’t a great journalist or even a great interviewer. Ted Koppel was just a great ego.
When died, this summer, I while the rest of America gushed. The same criticism is equally appropriate to Koppel.
Ted Koppel is just Peter Jennings in a cheaper toupee. Unfortunately, while Koppel retires from Nightline, his equally biased, leftist daughter Andrea Koppel spews on as a “reporter” at CNN.
Good Riddance, Ted Koppel. One down; many, many more to go.

Too bad its not going to be the last we hear from him.
We need some “Mob rights”. Round them all up and burn them at a steak, like they use to witches, trouble makers and the like.

How about a new Enemies List? Top 5 I’d like to see disappear from the airwaves:
1. Al Franken. Reminds me of that comedian from SCTV (can’t think of the name right now, he was played by Eugene Levy) who always wanted to “do drama. (which he pronounced dramma)”
2. Keith Olbermann…what a loser, a pseudo intellectual. First, I am about the only one who thinks so, but he was lousy on SportsCenter, always with that smirky look on his face like he was too cool for school. I just wanted to see sport highlghts, not having to sit through his lame attempts at what he thought was his witticisms. I am sure he thinks the reason he is only watched by 15 people on MSNBC is because he is just “over the heads” of the average person.
3. Jon Stewart…why does anyone think he is funny or smart?
4. HOprah….the only thing worse than HOprah is her audience. At my gym, the bims INSIST!! one or more of the TVs are turned to her show so I am forced to catch it every once in a while. Bush should hire HOprah to win the war in Iraq. If HOprah commanded, those bims and dolts would march right over and fight with their purses.
5. Larry King….awful USA Today column, #2 celeb butt kisser behind HOprah, and proves there is a sucker born every minute marrying those gold diggers.

Is Nightline still on the air?! I thought it was cancelled like 4 or 5 years ago. Ted Koppel is a putz.

1n 1994, some very bad things happened in rwanda.
about 850,000 bad things happened.
nightline did four(4) segments.
when abu gharib came along, nightline did twenty-three(23) segments.
amazing, what the resources of a so-called news organization can be called on to do.

“Koppel (whose real name is Ed, not Ted)…”
Um, you are aware that ‘Ted’ is a nickname for ‘Edward’, right?
Right?

Dadahead on November 22, 2005 at 8:38 pm

All she said was that his real name is Ed. I wouldn’t have known this hairhat-wearing douchebag was an Ed otherwise. The only other Ed I’ve ever heard call himself Ted is that drunken blivit, Ted Kennedy. Figures.

Actually, his real name is Edward.
Is Debbie really Deborah? Or one of those weird cases where the nickname is actually the name, like people who actually have ‘Joey’ on their birth certificate?
Who cares?

Dadahead on November 22, 2005 at 10:35 pm

Thanks, Doodyhead, for focusing in on the all important Ed vs. Ted and Debbie vs. Deborah issue.
His name is Edward!
Brilliant, DoodyHead. Bravo! You are a true scholar. Please, please, I won’t rest till I find out his middle name.

Dadahead:
If you want to be so technical, and frankly anal, about it, Ted is usually the nickname for men named “Theodore.” Go gripe to the champion driver and swimmer, Fast Eddie Kennedy (a/k/a “Club Ted”), for adopting the wrong nickname. If that was the main thing you got out of this post, I’d say your obsessive compulsive habit needs further treatment.

I thought I’d read somewhere that former Clinton flackeur, Step ‘n Flackit Stephanopoulos, was taking over for Koppel. That’s ABC’s idea of “new blood.”
