Steven Sotloff: Proud “Jewish” Supporter of HAMAS, ISIS, Rebels; His Anti-US Friends & Their Attacks on Me; “Deeply Loved Islam”

By Debbie Schlussel

**** UPDATE 3: Steven Sotloff Story About Praying, Fasting on Yom Kippur is Fake, BS – Totally Debunked ****

**** UPDATE #2: Even After Beheading, Sotloffs Still Sucking Up to ISIS: “Steven Was Martyr for allah;” Muslim Family Spokesman ****

**** UPDATE: Steven Sotloff: ISIS’ Beheaded Anti-Israel Jew Converted to Islam Years Ago; “Hated” Israel ****

The newly-beheaded Steven Sotloff lost his head long ago. He was an Islamopandering schmuck who learned Arabic, bragged about loving “Islamic culture” (an oxymoron), loved HAMAS and ISIS, and was an Arab Spring Breaker (my name for all the reporters hanging out in the Middle East cheering on various Muslim rebels and their disastrous consequences). Everything he did was part of his vocation: serving as an apologist for jihad and supporting not just Muslims, but the most extreme Muslims he could find, especially the terrorist variety. Even as he was living and studying in Israel, Sotloff praised the election of HAMAS into power and made a habit of attacking Israel at every chance. I know this because a little over a week ago, I was contacted by some of his friends, many of them anti-American, far-left schmucks. And then I learned more from others who knew him even better (see the letter I received below).

Steven Sotloff (in beard) in Traditional Yemeni Muslim Dress & Keffiyeh

A little over a week ago, I was phoned by an arrogant, smug guy who identified himself as Gregg Roman and as the spokesmodel for the Sotloff family. He implied he was from the Mossad and told me that Sotloff was “one of the good guys” and working for the Mossad, too. Those claims, by the way, are pure fiction, and here’s a tip: real Mossad operatives never brag about being from the Mossad. Ever. Roman told me he was a longtime good friend of Sotloff and had studied with him in Israel at IDC, the Interdisciplinary Center–an Israeli University in Herzliya. That part is true (Sotloff studied at IDC from 2005-2008). While it is true that some IDC students are recruited to work in the Mossad, er . . . “The Prime Minister’s Office,” none of them was ever named Sotloff or Roman. And, in fact, the two were far leftists.

Sotloff’s friend, Roman, told me that the purpose of his call was to get me to remove any references on my site to Steven Sotloff being a Jew (in an article on James Foley’s beheading, which captures my views on Sotloff’s beheading, too), even though it wasn’t an education in rocket science that enabled me–and anyone with a brain–to deduce that from his surname, appearance, and other cues. Roman told me that if I left it up, I would cause ISIS to behead Steven Sotloff. When I responded that it is obvious Sotloff is a Jew and that there is no way ISIS isn’t aware of that fact, Roman claimed that he speaks and reads Arabic (he doesn’t, and he can barely speak Hebrew), and that there was no chatter on the Arabic chat rooms around the Net about Sotloff being Jewish. He said that my article would cause that chatter and give ISIS no choice but to behead Sotloff. He said he contacted many other websites and news outlets and all complied with his demand.

When I pointed out that many media reports (and tweets of his friends) said Sotloff was an Arab Spring Breaker and a fan of Islam and Islamic culture who lived in Yemen for a bit, Roman kept insisting that Sotloff actually lived in Israel all that time and was working for the Israelis, that he opposed the Arab Spring. But, as I later learned, this was all a lie (Sotloff hadn’t lived in Israel in years–and when he did it was as a fifth columnist, pro-HAMAS free-lance “journalist”). And I was spot on when I questioned, on this site, what kind of Jew goes to live in Yemen and cheers on Syrian rebels and ISIS. And, as I later learned, this conceited liar, Gregg Roman, is a left-wing official of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Pittsburgh, who hangs out with anti-Israel Jews of J Street and promotes immigration amnesty and “social justice” globaloney (and used to like to appear on Al-Jazeera).

However, in the interest of saving a life, I temporarily complied (for about an hour only) and removed all references to Steven Sotloff on my site. (And, as I’ve since learned, it’s a life that, frankly, didn’t need to be saved because, as I’ve since learned he made a career of contributing “journalistic” aid and comfort to America’s enemies in Bahrain’s Shi’ite Hezbollah rebels, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, Libya’s Al-Qaeda rebels, and finally ISIS.) I did my homework and found that Sotloff’s writing was exactly as I first thought: he cheered on every kind of dangerous, fundamentalist Islamic terrorist or “protester” he could find, Sunni and Shi’ite. Halfway into the conversation, Roman insisted that our entire 45-minute-long conversation be off the record, and I agreed, until I learned that it, in fact, was not off the record, and I began hearing from others who’d read an online chat discussion among Sotloff’s mostly leftist, mostly anti-American friends attacking me and relaying an entirely false version of the conversation as told to them in writing by the self-appointed “hero of the day” Gregg Roman.

I saw some of the discussion, in which this far-lefty Roman repeatedly attacked me as “crazy” (something lefties–and righties–always do to discredit their opponents when they have no legit argument). In it, Steven Sotloff’s Western friends and former classmates from Israel’s IDC–some of them Americans and others from places like Canada and Sweden–attacked me for being a patriotic American. Yes, they really used those words, that I was bad because of my “American patriotism” and Jewish “religious beliefs” (that was a quote from a New York lawyer named Jonathan Jawitz, who is originally from Europe and has an MA in Counter-terrorism and Homeland Security). And this schmuck Roman, who is supposed to be an American and is lucky to live here freely, agreed with them. These are Steven Sotloff’s Western and American friends who hate “American patriotism” and Jewish “religious beliefs.” (One said he wanted to tie me up in zip ties for that.) As a proud Jew and a proud American, I find them to be quite disgusting. But it ain’t a stretch to see how he supported HAMAS and ISIS . . . and now the eyes of his dismantled head are seeing what that got him.

Below is the letter I got from someone who knew Steven Sotloff at IDC and enlightened me on the truth – I also spoke to this person at length. This person did not want Sotloff to be beheaded (the person was sickened and saddened that he was), but this person wanted the truth to come out and the record set straight:

I am writing because you were just contacted by Gregg Roman regarding an article you posted on your blog that referenced Steve Sotloff. I am aware of the contact because I am a former classmate of Steve’s and Gregg’s and am part of an online group that formed among his former classmates shortly after the news of his abduction broke.

I am sure Gregg implied (or flat out stated) that by removing references to Steve being Jewish, you would be possibly saving his life. I am sure he did not mention that there have been articles online with references to his Jewish upbringing for a year WHILE Steve was being held by ISIS. If ISIS ever performed a basic Google search during that time, they already know.

I am sure that Gregg told you he is acting on behalf of the family. To a certain extent, this is true, since the family did hint that the group of friends and former classmates might be able to do something useful by trying to squelch references in the media that might connect Steve to Israel. In reality, this is basically an attempt to keep a lot of very activist, leftist busybodies occupied and feeling useful. Other great triumphs of theirs have been finding an old dating site profile of Steve’s and fighting to get his Facebook account shut down (even though it can only be more useful to the NSA than to ISIS since they can track the IP of anyone who tries to use it).

There is zero chance that ISIS doesn’t know Steve is Jewish. They have had him for a year. Even if he were totally removed from the internet tomorrow, they could use a variety of search tools to find this information. The only reason ISIS hasn’t mentioned this fact in their propaganda videos in my opinion is in case the US did agree to trade him, they would be able to do so without suffering a major backlash inside jihadist circles for giving away (not beheading) a Jew. It should be noted that Steve’s family have already been quoted in an article since he was taken which confirmed his Jewishness, so the case isn’t so clear cut and Gregg isn’t acting on their behalf on anything more than a very unofficial capacity in any case.

There is essentially nothing productive being accomplished by a virtual online witch hunt being conducted by a group of former classmates of Steve’s except that they feel important, which is something at least. I would possibly even leave it at that, but you pretty much hit the nail on the head in your article. I went to school with Steve, I knew him. He was about as crazy of a jihadi apologist as I’ve ever heard of. He spent his life hunting for the unicorn-like Islamist moderate and was shot at, teargassed, and beat up as a result.

I feel for Steve. I wouldn’t wish being captured by jihadist bastards on anyone, let alone a guy I knew from college. However, it reminds me of the case of the grizzly bear man who’s show was all about how friendly and cuddly the bears were, and which ended when he was eaten by them. As far as your analysis of Steve goes in your article, it was pretty well accurate. I can say that as a guy who knows him.

In short; do what you want, but understand that changing your article achieves basically nothing as far as bringing Steve back and that the only reason you were asked to do so was because a bunch of internet activist types didn’t have enough to do with themselves and wanted to feel important.

I wrote because the attitude of some of the members of the group bothered me and because your blog post was basically dead-on. Do what you will.

I’m not surprised by any of this. I had it right about Sotloff the first time, and this person confirmed it. Sotloff wasn’t just a JINO (Jew In Name Only), he was apparently an AINO (American In Name Only).

Since he’s been separated from his empty head, more news has come out that Sotloff hung out with “Americans” who didn’t actually like being American. His friend, “revolutionary” Matthew Van Dyke first pretended to be an objective journalist covering the Arab Spring, just like Sotloff. But then he removed all vestiges of pretension and actually fought with the “Libyan liberal democrats” who were actually Al-Qaeda fanatics and are now ISIS.

Matthew Van Dyke, a documentary filmmaker, self-described “revolutionary” and friend of Sotloff’s, told ABC News that the two last saw each other in Washington, D.C., just a few weeks before Sotloff’s disappearance. Van Dyke has reported from the Middle East, and joined the fighting during the Libyan revolution, and was held as a prisoner of war.

You know what they say about “the company you keep.”

And the company Steven Sotloff kept was ISIS, Iran-backed Shi’ite Hezbollah “protesters” in Bahrain, Muslim Brothers in Egypt, and self-proclaimed “revolutionary” Americans who fight with Al-Qaeda in Libya.

Like I said, he lost his head long before ISIS separated him from it.

While I didn’t wish this idiotowitz to be beheaded, I shed no tears for him. Not one.

And neither should you.

This is the barbarism he cheered on and gladly served as apologist for, time and again.

We didn’t ask Steven Sotloff to go in the viper’s nest and try to be a fellow cobra, complete with pro-HAMAS, Islam-lovin’ venom. He chose to do that himself. And that’s on him.

You play with snakes, you get bit. And, sometimes, beheaded.

stevensotloffisis

I can’t help but sneer when so many newscasters and commenters today described how “brave” Sotloff was for taking his beheading stoically and not making a sound. No, that’s not brave. Brave is when an innocent American or serviceman is captured by these men through no fault of his own. And brave is fighting for your life until the very last breath. How on earth was is it brave to just sit there awaiting the snuffing out?

Cheering on your future murderers for years in print, taking absurd risks to be captured by them, and then, when you know your head is about to be sliced off, reading their stupid anti-American statement anyway (especially when you know it won’t save your life), isn’t brave.

It’s just Darwin Award winning behavior by yet another apologist of the jihad.

***

One other thing: in her shameless begging video to stop the very likely (and ultimately certain) beheading of her son, the plastic-surgery-and-botox-afflicted Shirley Sotloff paid tribute to the Islamic caliphate and the caliph of ISIS/ISIL/IS, and she paid tribute to Islam and Mohammed. She proclaimed that Mohammed “always protected the people of the book,” which usually means Jews and can sometimes mean Jews and Christians.

Um, no, Mohammed didn’t protect them. He betrayed, raped, and murdered them. She actually thought her son would be the exception because he pandered to them over the years? That an embarrassing, pathetic beggaring video would make a difference with these barbaric savages? Shirley Sotloff in 1944: Please, SS Gestapo, your Hitler always protected the People of the Book.

One wonders if these phony baloney comments made to butt-snorkle the Muslims who held her son captive, were made merely out of desperation to save her son . . . or if she really believes them. I guess like mother like son in failing to see them for who they really are.

With a son like Steven Sotloff, I vote the latter.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the dysfunctional tree.

More about Steven Sotloff from friends and journalists who knew him and his love of Islam and its barbars:

* Steven Sotloff Deeply Love Islamic World, Comitted to Arab Spring, Respectful of Islamic Culture:

“Steve Sotloff lived in Yemen for years, spoke good Arabic, deeply loved Islamic world,” tweeted writer Ann Marlowe, who met Sotloff during the conflict in Libya. . . . He was, she said “committed to the Arab Spring and very respectful of Islamic culture.”

* Steven Sotloff’s Sympathies Were with Arabic Culture, Not Jews or America:

His sympathy for Arab culture was despite his own ancestry – he was the grandson of Holocaust survivors. He attended a Jewish school [DS: a Reform Judaism school] in Miami.

* Sotloff Moved to Yemen, Where he Lived for Years, Lot of Respect for Muslim World:

“He went to study Arabic and ended up staying,” said Ann Marlowe, a fellow journalist and friend. “Yemen has about a 20-person expatriate community; you go there for full immersion. It is not that many people’s idea of a whole lot of fun. He loved being in a traditional society. He struck me as someone with a lot of respect for the Muslim world.”

* Steven Sotloff, Friend of Muslims & Arab Spring Breaker:

“Every Muslim who knew (Steven) is probably mortified and horrified that someone who really was a friend of the Muslim and Arab people has met his end this way,” said Ann Marlowe, a visiting fellow at the Hudson Institute who worked alongside Mr. Sotloff during Libya’s 2011 revolution. “He believed in the Arab Spring. He believed in democracy,” she said. “He believed that Arabs and Muslims deserved the same opportunities we have in the West.”

[The Hudson Institute is supposed to be a conservative think tank. I guess it used to be.]

* “Sensitive Approach” to Middle East Reporting, Reported From “Local Perspectives”:

Steven Sotloff, the second U.S. journalist murdered by Islamic State militants, was a respected reporter as well known for his irreverent humor as for his sensitive approach to Middle East conflicts. . . . Sotloff “is known to us as an honest and thoughtful journalist who strives to understand the story from local perspectives . . . ,” World Affairs said last month.

All of this makes you wonder, did Steven Sotloff convert to Islam? Don’t bet against it.

Like I said, he lost his head long before ISIS took it from him.

**** UPDATE: Check out GotNews’ Charles Johnson’s (no, not the Charles Johnson who became a far leftist, different guy) excellent expose on Sotloff’s tweets in support of Syrian terrorists. Jibes completely with what I wrote here.

I feel bad for Sotloff. Too stupid to know that Islamic culture is wicked, evil, and not far removed from savagery. Maybe something good will come out of this, maybe the communist/leftist/liberal/fake feminist/transexualist fifth column will see that they have no friends in Islam. Maybe, hopefully, this is the beginning of change. Obama cannot have any coglioni if those he has defended and promoted behead two of his fellow travelers.

Debbie and everyone, I’ll be the first (assumingly that’s the case) to coin the phrase and here goes: “cognitive dissonance is a mental disorder”!

It’s obviously apparent that this guy, Gregg Roman is suffering from that psychological process of arguing and attacking the author of this source for giving out all of the facts of reality, etc. And these guys are also “cultural-relativists” by being excuses for cultures that’s WAY worst than ours and don’t match up to ours (don’t mean to sound like an ethno-centrist), and I’m sorry that you had to put up with that prick DS, I assume it must’ve increased your blood-pressure by some degree?

Darwin Award Candidate.

If he had converted to Islam, it still would not have saved his life.

He hung out with the most evil people on the planet and look where it got him.

As far I am concerned, good riddance! He won’t be telling us any more how “beautiful and civilized” the Muslim World appears.

ISIS showed us that fellow travelers and apologists for jihad only get this much slack from them – and at the end of the day no matter how fanatically pro-Muslim they are, the admiration and love just isn’t reciprocated.

Steven Sotloff’s short life shows us that falling in with the wrong crowd can and will get you killed – and the bad news is there are plenty of idiots like him out there and I shed no tears for his demise.

NormanF on September 3, 2014 at 12:00 am

Lefties and righties call their opponents ‘crazy’ when they don’t have a substantive argument.

True — and the other thing they call them is ‘childish’. The me-too Republicans (I no longer say ‘RINO’ because they aren’t just Republicans in name only. This is what the Republicans are, with very infrequent exceptions) call real conservatives ‘childish’.

Supposedly that denotes misplaced idealism and unrealistic expectations. Like it is ‘childish’ to combat illegal immigration, or to go after the Democrats on anything other than the economy. So when you hear someone calling someone else ‘childish’, you know you are listening to a real opportunist hack.

In Iraq,

We’re bombing Al Qaeda Sunni Islamic terrorists on behalf of Hezbollah Islamic terrorists.

We’ve should have let ’em fight it out and kill each other. We have yet to learn the mythical moderate Islamist doesn’t exist.

Sotloff lost his head in failing to realize Muslim savages aren’t reformed by reason. Say what you like about the Sisis and Assads of the Arab World – they know the only way the unbridled passions of the terrorist-loving populations they rule can be checked is with brutal force. Nothing else works.

That’s why the “Arab Spring” was and is an oxymoron.

NormanF on September 3, 2014 at 3:12 am

You also nailed it with the mother. I saw her video and tried to figure out what was wrong with her face. Yes, plastic surgery and botox.

Regarding Sotloff’s and his ilk’s fetish with Arabs, I have just never gotten that. I have traveled extensively throughout the Gulf region and EVERY Islamic Arab I’ve dealt with has always been a hair away from being insulted and/or just going off for no reason. They may act as if they want to be friends but always have that chip on their shoulders and you always have to be so careful around them with what you say and any gestures. How any normal person can possibly be friends with or like them is beyond me. If you are not family and they do like you, you are suspect, taken advantage of and lied to. If they don’t like you and can gang up, well, Sotloff found out first hand what happens.

The Middle East is not a tourist mecca. You either went there to strike it rich from oil or to get closer to G-d.

Its mostly hot, forsaken wasteland. People who go there for any other reason usually wind up dead.

Its not a forgiving place and neither are the people who inhabit it.

Worry01 on September 3, 2014 at 7:22 am

Debbie-Great article. And the truth.I think that if Sotloff was anything, he was CIA and part of fomenting the Arab spring:

The basic question is: “was President Obama the origin of the Arab Spring”? YES. We all know that.

Think about it-Brennan,head of the CIA, is rumored to be a Muslime since he visited Mecca while stationed in Saudi Arabia. As far as I know, you cannot visit Mecca unless you are a Muslime. And the CIA have been behind a lot of this stuff. Even BHO is rumored to be a CIA creation (his mother and step father worked for the CIA, as did his grandparents)

C: Uh, no, your false hero Bush is the father of the Arab Spring. He insisted on free elections in Lebanon (Hezbollah), Gaza (HAMAS), Iraq (Iran-backed Shi’ites–bringing the void filled by ISIS), etc. Even after Obama took power, Bush wrote an op-ed in the WSJ calling for democracy in the Arab world. WAKE. UP. This wasn’t Obama. It was Bush. Obama merely continued what Bush opened the floodgates for. GET. A. CLUE. DS

Charlotte on September 3, 2014 at 7:53 am

Democracy doesn’t work in the Middle East because if Muslims are left to their own devices, they will elect terrorists to power.

Hitler could not get a majority of the German people to vote for him in a free election and he was a pretty charismatic guy. He had to be imposed on them by the elite.

In the Arab World, as I noted it works the other way around. The elites understand very well who the Islamists cum Islamic terrorists really are and want to keep them out of power, not because they love the West and Israel but because they value keeping their own heads. No wonder, when polls show Arabs would overwhelmingly vote for guys like Haniyeh and Bin Laden.

Get a clue – freedom is not something every one aspires to. Tyranny is a natural aspiration for some masses of people on this planet. Ignoring that will lead one to Sotloff’s ignoble fate. Democracy in the Muslim World leads to one’s head ending up on a pike.

Kick out the muslims, close your borders and then declare any Americans killed abroad by Islamic countries citizens will be replayed 100000 to one. And then use HAMAS tactics of indescriminately attempting to bomb Israeli settlements. Except use laser guided missiles to actually target the “terrorists”
“Oh there’s an ISIS stronghold in that city? Buh bye city.
These sharmutas waved HAMAS flags in Toronto, deport or shoot them. Sick of these nazi flag waving pukes breathing the same air. And still breathing.
What should have been an actual “war on terror” was to show them what terror means. Appeasement didn’t exactly work for chamberlain, it didn’t work when Israel gave back territory, and it never will. Soon the fight that Israel has been fighting is going to be visited on out shores. And it is our fault for being PC and too morally weak to DO something about it.

RhondaN – Debbie has just written Sotloff converted to Islam when he was in Egypt.

I wrote it made no difference to his captors. He chose of his own free will to fall in with the most evil people on the planet. Sotloff – not Debbie – wrote his own death sentence. When you climb into bed with Islamic terrorists, expect to get beheaded by them.

Sotloff was not a faithful Jew, not a loyal Israeli or even thought of himself as an American. He was a low life, traitorous Islamic terrorist loving peace of trash.

P*ss on him. The fact he was born Jewish in no way makes me feel sympathy for his plight. Just the exact opposite. I love the Jewish people but I know that seriously there are Stupid Jews amongst them and they wind up dead. And I want the Jewish people to survive.

Debbie has more love for Jews than your ignorant comment reveals. That you defend Sotloff shows you don’t even care why he chose to end up in the clutches of Islamic terrorists like the ISIS monsters who murdered him. The rest of us on here know far better.

NormanF on September 3, 2014 at 12:59 pm

His mother in her video plea to IS stated: “I ask you to use your authority to spare his life and to set the example of the Prophet Mohammed, who protected people of the Book. Isn’t the reference she made to people of the book a direct acknowledgement that Steven was a Jew?

The stupid cow didn’t even know Mohammed massacred all the Jewish boys and men of the Beni Qurazyah and took all the Jewish females as sex slaves.

That’s how Jews sadly don’t know about Islamic Jew hatred. It has nothing to do with Israel. And Jews who are fanatically pro Muslim, they learn soon than later that if they choose Allah over G-d, its not enough to earn them Muslim respect.

And we saw just how much the ISIS murderers respected her son’s love of Islam.

PDMac60 on September 3, 2014 at 3:08 pm

Mrs. Schlussel, while I often find your reporting interesting, this article is quite repulsive. You have not provided one shred of evidence to your slanderous claims. The best you can come up with is quotes of other people slandering him. Slander is not evidence. How about providing some of his articles that you claim profess love of Moslems? Some people are saying that he pretended to convert to enable him to do his reporting, but that actually he fasted on Yom Kippur, even while held captive. Those are also unsubstantiated claims. But please give us a break, and not egg us on to hate a person for no reason, before you’re able to provide us with some hard proof of your claims.

YH: Moron, if you bothered to read this article you would have seen that I linked to many other sources in the media at the end of this post–all with quotes backing up his love of Islam and there is a ton of hard proof in this story. RIF – Reading Is Fundamental. Try it before premature articularoion. But there is no hard proof for the baloney Yom Kippur story, which left-wing, anti-Israel Ynet/Yediot Ahronot claimed from an anonymous friend who claims he was captive in ISIS. But ISIS has released very few people, all of them Europeans for large ransoms. And Sotloff went to a Reform Temple, didn’t speak Hebrew, and didn’t pray. He also didn’t keep anything in Judaism. It is completely non-credible that he would suddenly know the Hebrew calendar, know the Yom Kippur prayers (most Orthodox people don’t even know these by heart), and not know (by the way) that Jews face East for prayers (the same as Muslims). The Yom Kippur story was concocted now to get sympathy for this HAMAS lover who cheered on ISIS because his family and friends want him to be remembered well, rather than as the Goebbels for jihad, which he was. Get a clue and use some critical thinking skills, assuming you have any, which I highly doubt. DS

Yonason Herschlag on September 3, 2014 at 4:41 pm

John Kerry is cut from the same cloth.

No wonder he lauds Sotloff. We have to pretend Islam is a peaceful religion.

None of the apologists for jihad bothers to answer the question of how a peaceful religion gets around to chopping off people’s heads in the name of Islam.

A lot of people don’t have a clue and they’re a complete waste of a human being.

NormanF on September 3, 2014 at 5:56 pm

No matter what all the monsters followers of Islam do, the appologists will say that they don’t represent the true Islam, they have hijacked the religion. I see this lie said even in Fox news by Hannity and the others . Unfortunately they help perpetuate the myth of islam(a religion of peace, love, and tolerance) X radical islam = isis, al qaeda, hamas etc., when in reality they are all the same.

MTMLA on September 4, 2014 at 9:45 am

      They’re all the same.

I don’t get what is it with people who think we should sit around the campfire with Islamic head-choppers and sing kumbaya with them.

Sotloff did that and now he’s minus his head and a lot of people still don’t want to wake the heck up to the truth about Islam.

NormanF on September 4, 2014 at 12:35 pm

Great reporting on your part.

We’re all responsible for our own conduct. Ezekiel said so explicitly. Individual accountability is fundamental to Judaism. The sins of the fathers are not visited upon the sons and the sins of the sons are not visited upon the fathers and all are held to account for their sins alone.

Nevertheless as you’re aware of what Debbie wrote, she did what she could to save a life. Who says though Sotloff was on the right side? Its a well known fact he was on the side of the enemies of Israel and America and he openly identified with them and their goals. And he chose as his life’s work, to spread their message. That doesn’t get any clearer. In the end, no one is responsible for Sotloff’s gruesome death than Sotloff himself – he chose to hang out with people for whom the brutal murder of innocents is a way of life.

I don’t feel guilt cuz he died because he was stupid and fell in with the wrong crowd and its wrong of you to impute that to Debbie. I don’t shed any tears over the man’s demise. When you lose track of your ethical values and common sense, you fall off the path of the Tree Of Life. Its a story as old as human nature and being seduced by sin began with our ancestors Adam and Eve. For what its worth, that does not make Sotloff an innocent victim. Just the exact opposite. If you can’t live with the truth, that’s not my problem or Debbie’s; that’s yours.

Deal with it.

Sotloff deserves a special subset of Darwin Awards: the Rachael Corrie…

DavidL on September 4, 2014 at 1:05 pm

Progressivism truly is a pseudo-religion. These ‘journalists’ that continually flirt with Islamists, are reminiscent of the Treadwell guy that thought he could be pals with Grizzly Bears in Alaska, until eventually being eaten by one of them.

waynesteapartyworld on September 4, 2014 at 3:04 pm

Please! The poor guy just had his head chopped off. Nobody, in my opinion, no matter how delusional or misinformed, deserves that fate. Clearly, he exhibited bad judgment in trooping off to a war zone where Islamic radicals were active given their propensity for killing and beheading Westerners and especially Jews. The record as to Stoloff’s political views is murky but, in a sense, it is irrelevant to the injustice done to him through a summary execution by beheading. Also, equally murky is whether he was working with any intelligence agencies. I hope he was because otherwise his conduct in placing himself at such extreme danger for the few shekels he earned as a “journalist” is really difficult to understand.

NYNapoleon on September 5, 2014 at 12:20 pm

Oh spare us, Tommy.

But let me take a different approach. Let’s assume that Debbie’s reporting of Sotloff’s nominal Judaism did provide the key piece of info that led to his death. Why would this be a bad thing? Sotloff facilitated the murder of Jews. I’d say that it was a terrific thing that he was killed. Given our beginning assumption on Debbie’s role, she should be commended even more.

skzion on September 5, 2014 at 2:02 pm

Debbie,

Whether or not Sotloff was who you claim he was and did what you claim he did, your article is a shameless hack and if there’s hell, you will get a prominent skewer in it. What a whore you are!

Grey on September 5, 2014 at 7:42 pm

Uh Grey, if you grant that Debbie is right on all points then you’re either a Mooooslim, a Stormfronter, or an Islamopanderer. Thanks.

skzion on September 8, 2014 at 4:49 am

Well, this article has once again proven that you mixed people [‘Jews’] are self-styled autists.

Nordid on September 7, 2014 at 7:48 am

Nordid, see my comment to Greg.

I read your article and the critique on Aish.com.
Was Sotloff a Jewish martyr or a Muslim martyr?
We will never know for sure what he was doing there in the first place. But, at the moment of his beheading he, his family and the rest of the world knew he died as a Jew for being Jewish and American. He died al kiddush Hashem as much as any Jew who died in a nazi death camp even when they had denied their Jewishness previously. Let the Jewish martyrs rest in peace and the self-hating Jews learn a lesson from Sotloff and his bloody death.

M: NO, we DO know for sure. He was a Muslim lover and convert. Those are facts. The rest is fairy tales. And NO, he did NOT die “al Kiddish Hashem” (making G-d’s name holy). WAKE. UP. It’s absolutely disgusting that you would consider this Muslim lover and Israel-hater who chose to chase ISIS to Jews who were dragged to their deaths in Nazi death camps. He is no “Jewish martyr.” Not even close. But you are definitely a frickin’ fool, Jewish or not. As far as a “critique” by the fools at Aish, I haven’t seen one, even after a search on that site, so I don’t know what you are talking about (and clearly, neither do you). DS

Milton on September 7, 2014 at 5:16 pm

    Dear DS,

I was not sure whether I should dignify your nasty response and personal insults. Nevertheless, I noticed that this is is your sensationalist, popularist style that your regular audience probably finds entertaining. When you are ready to have a serious discussion about the issues without personal insults and condescending remarks, I would be happy to respond to the so-called facts you cite about what was in the mind of Sotloff as he was beheaded, as if you knew. How you you would know that is beyond me . You do not know me or my qualifications. — M, someone who disagrees with you.
P.S. In you dictionary, I must, therefore, be a fool. No worries. I d not take offense. That probably puts me in good company
