PCUSA: Dying Church Boycotts Israel in Face of Embarrassing Jewish Begging

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****

On Friday, the dying Presbyterian Church of the United States of America (PCUSA) voted to boycott Israel by withdrawing its investments in a few companies that do business with Israel (but won’t pull investments in companies that do biz with human rights abusing Muslim nations). That was to be expected and not news. The real news is the pathetic, weak, stereotypical begging by Jews to this shrinking, impotent church of dying New Age leftist nuts.

pcusa

This past week, the PCUSA held its national convention in downtown Detroit. I watched in disgust as Jewish groups pandered and begged these irrelevant anti-Semites not to be anti-Semites and not to vote for divesting from companies that do business with Israel. It was sad and pathetic. A Jew begging a Nazi with a machine gun in 1941 Germany not to murder his son is one thing. But a Jew in the United States of America in 2014 begging a shrinking, Jew-hating church not to boycott Israel–well that’s just pitiful. And very wimpy. Not to mention, embarrassing.

If Jews who support Israel had any pride, they’d ignore the PCUSA or just utter the two most appropriate letters to the church: “F” and “U.” But this is the state of affairs in which we live: Jews pander to Jew-haters, be they Muslim or Presbyterian. They treat these two malefactor groups better than they treat fellow Jews who are actually proud to be Jewish. The groups that did the begging are the same ones who constantly pander to Muslims and haven’t really done much to support Israel in the first place. They created this atmosphere in which it is acceptable for this church to do this. So, we don’t need or want their begging, now. And these beggar Jews have no shame, no sense of embarrassment. No pride and no dignity. I have as much contempt for the beggars as the PCUSA does, for this reason. It’s like watching a jilted, mentally defective girlfriend constantly begging to be taken back by the boyfriend who beat her. Get a clue. Move on. Hold your head high and let the PCUSA know it is as important as an ant urinating on the sidewalk: nobody notices or cares.

The PCUSA is tiny and irrelevant when it comes to faith in America. By its own count, the church admits that by the end of 2012–the last year for which it has released statistics–its membership was only 1,849,496, compared to 1,952,287 in 2011, a decline of 102,791 members. The number of PCUSA congregations at the end of 2012 was 10,262–204 fewer than the previous year. During the same year, 86 PCUSA churches were dissolved, compared to 75 in 2011. One hundred ten congregations were “dismissed” to other denominations, 89 more than the previous year. (In order to try to keep more and get new members, PCUSA also voted to allow its clerics to conduct gay marriages. It won’t work.)

There are three times as many Jews in the US as there are PCUSA members, who are largely aging hippies who kinda sorta found a tiny bit of faux-religion. And while our religion is shrinking, it is nowhere near as small and as fast dying as this anti-Semitic church. And, yet, what do Jews do? They beg and act like the meek of the proverbial Jewish stereotype. And that’s doubly embarrassing because they knew they would lose, despite (and maybe in part because of) the begging. This isn’t the first time the PCUSA has taken this vote, and the last time the boycott nearly passed. It was only a matter of time. PCUSA has historically been anti-Israel (it published an anti-Semitic book, “Zionism Unsettled”), so this was predictable. And what do you do when you know you will lose in a fight with an irrelevant, dying force? You ignore the fight and let the dying force die. You don’t give it energy and attention as a reward for its anti-Semitic hate, which is exactly what the pathetic, begging Jews did.

Israel doesn’t need PCUSA’s investment in Caterpillar stock (one of the investments the church will now dump). And neither does Caterpillar. Both Israel and Caterpillar won’t even notice or feel it. But the behavior of the alleged pro-Israel advocates who begged made this seem important and acted like it is something. Well, it is nothing. Some other investors in the stock market will quickly pick up PCUSA’s shares in Caterpillar and the other companies. And once the church is fully divested from the five or so companies which do business in Israel and in which the church has invested, that is the very end of the very impotent and limited power this church has or ever had over Israel.

And, then, PCUSA members will hypocritically continue to use the vaccines, medicines, cell phones, and computer apps Israelis constantly invent and develop. And, very soon, the PCUSA–the church’s only agenda seems to be comprising the far-left wing of the already far-left Democratic Party–will die. Most of the members it still has are old and getting older (and dying).

Haters will hate. And it’s not news that the PCUSA hates Jews and Israel. It’s said so on many occasions and that will continue for the short shelf-life left in this dead church.

It should be noted that while three Israeli teens–one of them also an American–were kidnapped by HAMAS and HAMAS continues to send rockets into Israel, the PCUSA has never and will never divest from companies doing business in Gaza and the so-called West Bank, both HAMAS-occupied territory. The PCUSA–even though it just decided to perform gay marriages–won’t divest from companies that do biz in the 22 Muslim nations that execute gays by law (while Israel gives gays more rights than any country in the region and more than in most Western nations). Nope, none of this will happen because this church isn’t about human rights or alleged Palestinians and other BS it is using as an excuse for its modern-day Judenrein. This is all about putting one to the Jews.

And good luck with that. But you’re on your deathbed, PCUSA. And, unlike what you believe happened to Jesus, your actions against Israel won’t result in any resurrection.

Even the world’s biggest dose of Viagra won’t solve your church’s impotence. In a few decades (and maybe even just one), the PCUSA will be a forgotten organization–barely a decrepit blip in the dustbin of history.

Just like all the other perished enemies of the Jewish people throughout history.

Exit Questions: how many Presbyterian churches are there in the Muslim world . . . and how many Presbyterians are free to practice their religion there?

But, hey, let’s boycott the JOOOOOOOS!

**** UPDATE: It should be noted that the only two Christian movements in America that are growing–Evangelicals and the Mormon LDS Church–are very pro-Israel. But it’s not like PCUSA could ever take a hint. So, why start now when rigor mortis will soon be setting in?

This is just surreal. W t h are these supposed Christians doing wading into this issue and throwing their support behind seventh century savages?

waynesteapartyworld on June 22, 2014 at 3:51 am

Any American who does not forthwith boycott both religiously and otherwise the Presbyterian Church ( USA / or not ) should consider his / herself to be no longer an American. Throw the Constitution out the window, if you think otherwise. And also be a stupid ass in buying into sharia. But the stupid will think that if they are quiet, they’ll be left alone. And those cowards will get exactly what they deserve.

This happened before. Most recently as the prelude to WW2.

JayPee on June 22, 2014 at 4:26 am

That “church” has gone directly against scripture two different ways. They are turning their backs on the lesson of Genesis 12 that teaches that those that bless the Jews will be blessed and those that curse the Jews will be cursed. (By G_d)
They are also ignoring the New Testament teachings against homosexuality in Romans chapter one. (The Old Testament teaches against this as well)
They would rather be trendy liberals than obey G_d.

RT on June 22, 2014 at 4:35 am

Exactly! The PCUSA is a Church (and Christian) in name only. True Christians – followers of Christ – accept that Jesus is God the Son, and of Jewish earthly lineage, and as such love the Jews as God’s chosen people. The PCUSA, once the church of some of America’s esteemed Founding Fathers, has fallen away. Good riddance.

Dakuan on June 22, 2014 at 4:39 am

These dying Churches that typically have progressive leadership are often the most virulent.
In an effort to stay relevant they often follow this path.
A swan song is not always pretty.

Dakuan on June 22, 2014 at 4:41 am

Their attitude is beyond disgusting considering what Christians are now suffering in the Middle East. Just utterly reprehensible.

Dakuan on June 22, 2014 at 4:50 am

PCUSA is a liberal Presbyterian denomination. It does not surprise me that they would do this. I would have avoided any PCUSA church like the plague before but this just adds icing to the cake!

Dennis on June 22, 2014 at 7:43 am

NO truly Christian church that follows the Bible can ever turn its back on Israel. As other’s have posted, the scripture is clear and as Pope John Pail II said “no Christian can claim to love Jesus and yet hate the Jews since Jesus was a Jew and the Jews are our older brothers in faith”.
It is OK to love and support the state of Israel and its people but have disagreements with the Israeli government (I and many of us do) but being against the state and people of Israel is just antisemitic.
It is totally hypocritical to slam Israel but then say nothing about all of the Arab countries and their horrible human rights record. RIGHT NOW there is a Christian pastor in jail in Iran for the crime of being Christian. There is a woman in Sudan sentenced to death for refusing to deny her Christian faith. People need to wake up and realize that the Muslims are no friends of the Christians but the Jews are our best friends and allies.

JimmyPx on June 22, 2014 at 8:27 am

Amen!

That having been said I believe some of the Jewish groups doing the pandering are either facing some of the same problems as the PCUSA or realize they are abou to face them and are desperately trying to find some relevance in the Jewish community. That is why they do this.

As Debbie has pointed out in the past these organizations falsely claim to represent the Jewish community. However they don’t represent anyone but themselves and possibly their large donors. No one I know has ever had a say in electing the “leaders” of these organizations.

On a side note, these divestment actions (The “D” in the anti semitic BDS campaign agains Israel) make no sense. The companies involved are not hurt. All that happens is the stock is sold to someone else, possibly at a discount. If the stock is sold to someone else at a discount the company doing the selling is punishing themselves.

I_AM_ME on June 22, 2014 at 9:18 am

Stupid, dhimmi, liberal Christians are the death of Christianity. Chrislam rising …

Free Speech on June 22, 2014 at 9:46 am

I agree with this. Several of my friends also picked up a story that had several PCUSA leaders visiting Soda Stream and “changing their minds” about BDS but why? Not because Israel is thriving, but because this company and others, AS I POINTED OUT with the Scarlett Johansen thing, is employing Fauxlestinians instead of Jews. According to these PCUSA “leaders” this fosters cooperation and peace between the two peoples. If SS had initiated a program to hire older, or otherwise unemployable Jews exclusively, there’s be no change. My healthy husband sits at home while all of you SodaStream junkies are helping Ahmed funnel money to Hamas. Remember that next time you are tempted to accuse us of living off the dole in our older age. And FYI, hubby is registered with the Labor Exchange. He has to be, until he’s 67. If anyone had such a program, he’d be informed and one of the first to go. That’s all I’m going to say since it’s a bit OT.

M: Actually, I’m the one who pointed out, with the Scarlett Johansson thing, that SodaStream employs Palestinians and built a mosque for them on its premises. You learned about that on this site. Check out your comment of surprise on this entry:

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/68928/scarlett-johansson-israel-oxfam-history-of-hanging-w-israel-boycotters/

But, yes, you are right. That is the only reason they would consider not divesting: stupid affirmative action for Arab Muslims.
DS

Meira on June 22, 2014 at 10:32 am

Meira, my reaction on hearing this news was threefold: First, that whatever stock PCUSA holds in these companies will be snatched up by another investor. This will not even be a blip on the radar of those companies. Second, that if this motivated these companies to cease operations in the “Palestinian territories,” it would hurt the very Palestinians they profess to be helping, since they are the people who work there. Third, I was baptised and raised in the PCUSA, but truly do not recognize the church of my childhood. I did not leave the Presbyterian Church, they left me. Over the years they have become so leftist, and preach politics from the pulpit, that I am no longer comfortable in the church of my childhood. So PCUSA, you can take your smug, anti-Semitic, worthless political action and stuff it. I don’t see how these people can call themselves Christians.

MIGirl on June 22, 2014 at 11:56 am

I believe you are correct, Debbie but I merely meant I pointed out that we shouldn’t be so gaga about this company and all the “support” it’s getting. I was disgusted when I read that here. I really wanted one although they cost around 500 NIS which is about twice what someone told me they cost in the US. I now drink Schweppes as the lesser of two evils I didn’t really want to flavors anyway.

Meira on June 22, 2014 at 1:20 pm

    Debbie’s mind: meet steel trap – KER-CHONK!!!

    DS_ROCKS! on June 22, 2014 at 2:42 pm

I notice you mentioned CAT stock as one of the targets. The stock had a major run up in price the last 2 weeks. They must not have heard about the boycott this week. If I would have held on to the stock, I could have joined the boycott and made some real money. Nothing to do with Israel, but I am still kicking myself for selling to soon. If I had known about the boycott I would have held on to it.

jerry on June 22, 2014 at 11:05 am

The best way to handle this situation is to have pride as a Jew and IGNORE them. There are other situations that must be met with strength. But PCUSA will soon be gone and we will still be here.
Thus perish thine enemies O Israel.

PaulaMalka on June 22, 2014 at 11:06 am

Yes, the PCUSA is small, and not very relevant, but their boycott has a symbolic significance, and helps legitimize the BDS movement, just as the resolution of the American Studies group, another small organization did.

These small actions do add up. It is especially loathsome that a number of liberal Jewish publications and organizations, do, in some many words, support various boycotts against Israel.

Little Al on June 22, 2014 at 11:11 am

And it’s interesting they held the convention in Detroit of all places. Why go to a dying city (other than the matching of a dying organization with a dying city.) Was it because they thought attendance would be lower and it would be easier to pass their resolution?

Little Al on June 22, 2014 at 11:14 am

And of course, Evangelicals and Mormons, the most pro-Israel groups, are the ones that so many liberal Jewish people ridicule and make fun of.

The number of anti-Mormon jokes and diatribes rose exponentially in 2012.

Little Al on June 22, 2014 at 11:21 am

Deb, what was more sickening were the “Jewish Voices for Peace,” a group of Jews who worship at the altar of anti-Semitism, anti-West, and who worship Communism. These JINO’s came to encourage the boycott. The leadership of this organization are radical lesbian rabbis who have no self-respect as Jews, rabbis, or lesbians, the latter being stoned to death in Muslim countries.

Morons. They were the same sort who opposed going to war with Hitler until Hitler attacked the Soviet Union, just like Betty Friedan did.

JEG: Jewish Voice for Peace has been around for decades and is an irrelevant, fringe, self-hating nutty group in my view. Unfortunately, as you and reader/commenter FBS imply, they pretend to speak for Jews and outsiders often do not know how off the deep end and unrepresentative they are of the mainstream Jewish people. DS

Jonathan E. Grant on June 22, 2014 at 11:23 am

Actually Deb, I think outsiders do know how wacky and far left these people are; however, the anti-Semites like those running the Presbyterian Church use these JINO’s as a paper shield against charges of anti-Semitism. It’s like Hitler having had Jews on his 1936 Olympic team.

Everything you write is, concerning some of the Jewish reaction is indeed, very embarrassing. One of the most embarrassing, pathetic, and disgusting things, as quoted in NYT yesterday is the following: “Of more influence was the presence at the church’s convention all week of Jewish activists, many of them young, in black T-shirts with the slogan “Another Jew Supporting Divestment.” Many of them were with Jewish Voice for Peace, a small but growing organization that promotes divestment and works with Palestinian and Christian groups on the left.” These Jews wearing the “black T-shirts” are worms.

FBS on June 22, 2014 at 11:37 am

Great piece Debbie. If you’re a leftist, you hate Israel and love Muslims. Ask a leftist why, and they really have nothing to say other than to read from “the script” of lies they are given. It’s just Jew hatred, plain and simple (or, self-hatred, in the case of JINO’s). These leftists share much in common with Jew haters on the right (Rand and Ron Paul, D’Souza, Buchanan, and the other “Paleocons”).

Adam on June 22, 2014 at 12:47 pm

These JINO self hating Jews are the same type as the collaborators of WW2 (like George Soros and his family) and were the Capos in the concentration camps brutalizing their fellow Jews and doing the bidding of the SS. These fools don’t realize that they are the “useful idiots” of fame and legend and they would be the 1st to be killed if Sharia Law was ever implemented here.
One scene that I’ve always remembered from the great miniseries War and Remembrance is that this old JINO collaborator at Theresienstadt who for years sent his fellow jews to the death camps to save his own neck and to get privileges believes the Nazi’s lies and goes “East” on the train. He thinks he’s going to a new camp and will be the boss there. When they finally stop at Auchwitz he complains to the SS not understanding because he thinks he’s special and the Nazi’s friend and lapdog. He painfully learns the truth when an SS guard rifle butts him and sends him to the gas with everyone else. Only then did he realize the truth.
I wish that I could slap all of this JINOs and make them watch that clip and have them WAKE UP and realize who their true enemies are.

Denominations like the Presbyterian Church are dying out. They mistakenly think that moving ever further to the political left will save them, but it never does.

Alfredo from Puerto Rico on June 22, 2014 at 2:32 pm

An interesting coincidence that the initials of the Presbyterian Church are shared with what they have long lapsed into (with this case proving and nailing it) – political correctness.

And of course, it is not exactly surprising that they’d have investments in companies that do business with the 22 Muslim nations in the Middle East.

I.I.N.M., Woodrow Wilson – one of the first Presidents to bring America down the road to Obama – was a Presbyterian.

ConcernedPatriot on June 22, 2014 at 2:18 pm

The “Pedestrian” church, as other posters have pointed out – as part of their church doctrine, regularly violate Biblical tenets of Christianity. I will watch with glee as their aging, disgusting, hippie/boomer membership dies out. They are a the scourge of Protestant faiths.

DS_ROCKS! on June 22, 2014 at 2:43 pm

I listen online to the Greg Garrison morning talk show on the Indianapolis station WIBC, 93.1 FM and he spent at least two days incensed at what his church was considering doing. He implied that he may not continue to support the church if they were so stupid as to enter this arena of demonizing Israel. I hadn’t heard they actually voted to boycott companies doing business with Israel until I turned on my computer today and read this. Perhaps now is a good time to buy Caterpillar stock just to support them.

The Presbyterians have their origins in Scottish Puritanism. Their founder, 16th century theologian John Knox, was a Scot. They long had been quite conservative. Several decades ago, unfortunately, they became enamored of the Social Gospel and, related, Third World liberation movements. The rest is history.

Well Deb, you know what I always say: “It’s always the stinkin’ money!” Wealthy PCUSA members are driving this. Where they get their money, nobody knows.

As a matter of fact, most Presbyterians I know are quite pro-Israel and can’t account for their church’s behavior. I know of one Pastor at a PCUSA church who is considering pulling out of PCUSA except that his congregation is small and dependent on that “stinkin’ money”. They may yet go it alone.

Let this be a lesson for all of us. If we as Jews let wealthy congregants drive our policy, we’ll likely end up like the PCUSA. In fact, I can already see this happening in both Conservative and Reform movements.

Were any of the Jews “begging” the PCUSA to be kind to Jews Orthodox? (I have a feeling that’s a rhetorical question.)

As Christians we were grafted into their (the Jews) vine and can be just as easily ripped out.
Is it a coincidence that in the Bible in Matt 25:33, those that enter into eternal life are on the right and those into eternal damnation are on the left? 😉

Laura S. on June 22, 2014 at 10:55 pm

I graduated from an Orthodox Presbyterian seminary (although I’m Southern Baptist). I remember the discussions about the long term fate of the PCUSA. All new candidates for ordination had to affirm their belief in the ordination of women- a position guarenteed to move that denomination dramatically further to the left. Now they will marry homosexuals in clear violation of both the Old and New Covenants. They are damned by their own actions. Their real power is the massive endowments put together when they still belived in something. Pearl Buck and her crew won the day, and this is the end result.

EDS on June 22, 2014 at 11:20 pm

Good article Debbie, and you forgot to ask a simple question during the course of the article and source you linked, and that question is, is the Presbyterian Church paying any form of yearly-income tax whilst they’re preaching politics instead of religion?

Also if they’re tax-exempt, then they ought be shutdown and there houses-of-worship out to be mutated and transformed into a regular places of business.

And what the PCUSA is doing is naked “corporatism”, corporatism isn’t only limited at the government doing business with corporations, companies, etc., religion can also be corporatists, of them doing and investing in business and corporations, I’ll give an example, during the post-French Revolution era, their was an existing absolutist corporate system, which was abolished due to its endorsement of social hierarchy and special corporate privilege for the “Roman Catholic Church”. Which that element of corporatism what the Presbyterian Church is doing by doing business with BDS organizations is “Corporatism in religion and spiritualism”!

The dying PCUSA sent a “Representative” group to meet with Caterpillar executives in an effort to have the company divest their investment (Business) in Israel. I understand it was a very short meeting. The Caterpillar folks told them – politely – to go pound sand. The PCUSA now stands at the forefront of the homosexual agenda, performing homosexual marriages and becoming infested with lesbian “Ministers.” There was a “Rabbi,” (From a temple that is SO “Reform,” it’s closed on Jewish holidays) begging the PCUSA to reconsider their position on Israel. He couldn’t stay long since he had an upcoming meeting with an “Interfaith” group of muslims. His task at the meeting was to sharpen their knives to be used to slit Jewish and all “Infidel” throats. This Faux Rabbi would have made an excellent kapo in the camps. Disgusting!

It appears that the Catholic liberation theology has been infecting Catholic and Protestant churches with Marxist BS thinking since it crapped out from South America in 1950s-60s. The PCUSA is infected with liberation theology thinking and now look at the results of what PCUSA has become.

Media reports say Caterpillar, Motorola, and Hewlett-Packard were the three companies PCUSA divested from.

Does this mean that the PCUSA will ex-communicate all church members who work for for those companies?

PCUSA and JVP and JVP’s moronic Rabbi Brant Rosen are the most laughable and irrelevant “people”. Although they are nauseating.
