WHOA! Would You Pay $24 to See the 9/11 Museum?

By Debbie Schlussel

Is it just me . . . or is the planned $24.00 admission fee for the 9/11 Museum very steep? The museum, the National Sept. 11 Memorial Museum, is scheduled to open soon, but clearly they don’t want this accessible to most people, especially in the Obamaconomy. Most people cannot afford to throw away $24.00–$96 for a family of four. I’ve never heard of such a steep museum admission fee. Have you?

And, on top of that, I’ll bet the museum is chock full of political correctness. Do you think they’ll note anything about Islamic terrorism and actually use the word Islam? I’ll bet they don’t. I’m sure the museum is sanitized and whitewashed of all of that, as pictures of it seem to be a collection of junk, including damaged fire trucks, notes seeking missing relatives . . . everything except what 9/11 was really about: an Islamic attack on America and Americans. Not “sanitized” is the giant annual cost they claim it will take to keep the museum running. Another PC boondoggle in the making:

The National Sept. 11 Memorial Museum will charge adults a $24 admission fee when it opens this spring, the institution announced Thursday evening. Last year, museum officials said the institution would charge an entrance fee of between $20 and $25 to offset the cost of running the institution. Families affected by the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 won’t be charged and there will be three free hours for the general public each week. Various discounts will also be available for seniors, schools and other groups. The Memorial will continue to be free.

Still, the prospect of charging a fee to enter the museum was controversial. Family members of those killed on Sept. 11 believe it should be free so everyone has the opportunity to understand the events of that day.”The 9/11 Memorial does not yet receive government support for ongoing operations as many other important museums of our national history do,” said Joseph Daniels, president of the museum and memorial, in a statement. “A general admission ticket of $24 will help fulfill our obligation to commemorate and preserve the history of 9/11. It will also enable educational programming that will teach the nature of and responsibility for the special freedoms we have.” He added that the fee will help ensure that the Memorial remains free.

The 2013 annual operating budget for the Memorial and Museum is projected to be $63 million. By instituting a fee, the museum hopes it will be able to generate about 60% to 70% of its budget through earned revenues, which will also include items like gift shop sales. It will continue to raise private money and strive to get some government funding to operate the museum.

Sixty-three million bucks to run a museum each year? Good luck with that. It won’t last. What the heck are they spending that much money on–a marble and gold tiled Muslim “reflection room” mosque?

Well, they say that those affected by 9/11 won’t be charged — that means just about all of us, so hopefully we can all get in for free. But I do think it’s OK to charge the wealthy among us at higher rates, so they pay their fair share, just as they do for income taxes, Social Security, and so on.

Museum charges are going up though, on a more serious note. $24 is high, especially for exhibits of apparently low quality, but some of the premiere museums are inching up to those kinds of prices.

By comparison, most museums and similar sites here in Israel, charge substantial fees. In terms of buying power, they’re at least as expensive if not more so. I don’t think charging for this particular venue however is appropriate. If anything, it should be a voluntary contribution.

compared to museums in seattle and new york city, $24 seems reasonable IF it were just another museum. this is more in the monument category- based on the tragic loss of life and assault on our nation, an act of war- so any “donation” an attendee would like to make would be appropriate. i would suggest voluntary donations of $9.11

I just thought that Debbie used the post wrong headline!

I would have put this up:

YIKES! Would you pay $24 To Tour A Glorified 9/11 Truther Museum?

There, fixed it! In this tough Obamaconomy, $24 is too much to pretend no one attacked us that day.

The only folks laughing all the way to the bank are 9/11 Truthers, CAIR and every Muslim on the planet. They won and America lost.

And that’s a lot more disturbing than the proposed $24 entrance fee to a politically correct museum that nowhere gets near to the truth to what really happened to America on that September day in 2001.

If this is in New York, I wouldn’t go see it. The people that run New York said they don’t want people like me in their state.

RT on January 27, 2014 at 3:54 pm

No. And it would cost me several thousand dollars to get there to see some goon-liberal’s idea of what American freedom is, plus getting groped, prodded and assumed to be a terrorist threat by the TSA trying to get to New York, a city I despise with my every breathe .. so .. No.

Like most here, we lived through the hours, days and months of/after 911. I do not need to see a museum to be reminded of what happened that day.

I was price checking some stuff do with my nephew during his Spring Break earlier this week; the FL Holocaust Museum charges 16 and the Dali Museum charges 20 for an adult admission, so while higher, it’s not insanely high. I suspect it’ll do well for about 2 months and then fizzle.

You can skip the Holocaust museum. Like most of these in the US it’s abut genocides of all peoples, not dedicated to the Jewish Holocaust. It equates Serbia, Darfur and others with what happened in Germany. So if you’re looking for a specifically Jewish commemoration, you won’t find it there.

I visited NYC when Giuliani said that those who want to show their support should come and spend money. Things were relatively cheap–including hotels–and people did seem glad to see tourists. Seeing the site being emptied was a moving experience, as were the New Yorkers who walked by and “didn’t see” the remains anymore. They were coping.

Nowadays, though, NYC is home to ooodles of Mooooooslims and utterly dhimmified non-Moooslims (except for the police, apparently). Meantime, if one want so visit an important historical building that is not on the main tourist beat, one can’t, as it has been closed to visitors.

The will not get any more visits from me, nor will I return when, inevitably, the next terrorist attack hits them.

$24 isn’t that much at all! I’m glad to see that the hate speech hasn’t died down here! This site should be called Dhimmian Rhapsody… Easy come easy go will you let me go….

Clayton, I vaguely remembered your handle. Now I think I remember you. By all means, GO. You’re a troll and a moron.

I hope there’ll be dedicataed prayer room for families of martyrs.

Does the Museum explain how all those Cell Phones worked from 30,000′ in 2001, or any of the 1000’s of other improbable lies from the fraud investigations? Why did Bush let the Saudi’s leave right after 911 & why do we now hear that the Saudi’s actually financed 911….???? The lies are so numerable I believe in the near future this new WTC will become a shrine to immense criminality!

westie on January 28, 2014 at 9:18 am

So 9/11 was a “tragedy?” I have a better term: “act of war.” As in Islamic war. I think I’ll take a pass on this museum and head on down to the National Aquarium.

Seek on January 28, 2014 at 12:12 pm

What a joke.

The mob got all the contracts for the reconstruction of the Twin Towers and the “9-11 Museum.”

I’ve heard one of “them” bragging about it. They think it’s funny, making money off of such a tragedy and rewriting history to the narrative the tune of a far-left liberal.

A on January 29, 2014 at 2:19 am

I prefer not to spend the time nor money to visit the site which spurned the rectal birth known as ICE.

I well remember the events of that day and just merely moved forward and did my job. I echo WilliamMunny’s sentiments.

IceNoMore on January 29, 2014 at 4:49 pm

I think this museum is an insult and a slap in the face to us as Americans. I refuse to go anywhere near it. Like you said, it’s completely white washed of the real reason it’s there. And the sad thing is, most peole have no clue. They can’t possibly have a clue if they go there. Where is the outrage?
