GirlieMan Nation: Nearly 1/2 Millennial Guys Live @ Home w Mommy; Most Millennial Chicks On Their Own

By Debbie Schlussel

It used to be that young adult women lived at home with their parents until marriage . . . and that young adult men quickly flew the coop to establish themselves, court women, get married, and start their own families. No longer the case. As if we needed more evidence that America is fast becoming (or already is) GirlieMan Nation, Pew Research reports that nearly half of all Millennial males–aged 18-31–live at home with their parents, while just under a third of Millennial females do. It’s just another piece of information which goes along with other stats showing the decline of the American man and the chickification of America.

millenialsliveathome

obamasmiling.jpg

The rising numbers of slacker Millennial males living at home off of their parents joins these facts: that American males are in the minority on college campuses and in grad schools; that recent male college and grad school graduates earn less in starting salary than their female counterparts; that women are on the rise in almost every profession, while men are on the decline; that the number of stay at home dads and married men who earn less than their wives is rapidly increasing; and that men–who’ve been hardest hit by the economic downturn–are not enjoying the barely felt recovery to the degree that women are.

The other numbers in the study show that more and more young adults–more than a third–are living at home with their parents in the awful Obamaconomy, as well.

In 2012, 36% of the nation’s young adults ages 18 to 31—the so-called Millennial generation—were living in their parents’ home, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data. This is the highest share in at least four decades and represents a slow but steady increase over the 32% of their same-aged counterparts who were living at home prior to the Great Recession in 2007 and the 34% doing so when it officially ended in 2009.

millenialsathome2

A record total of 21.6 million Millennials lived in their parents’ home in 2012, up from 18.5 million of their same aged counterparts in 2007. Of these, at least a third and perhaps as many as half are college students. (In the census data used for this analysis, college students who live in dormitories during the academic year are counted as living with their parents). Younger Millennials (ages 18 to 24) are much more likely than older ones (ages 25 to 31) to be living with their parents—56% versus 16%. Since the onset of the 2007-2009 recession, both age groups have experienced a rise in this living arrangement.

The men of the Millennial generation are more likely than the women to be living with their parents—40% versus 32%—continuing a long-term gender gap in the share of young adults who do so. The steady rise in the share of young adults who live in their parents’ home appears to be driven by a combination of economic, educational and cultural factors. Among them:

* Declining employment. In 2012, 63% of 18- to 31-year-olds had jobs, down from the 70% of their same-aged counterparts who had jobs in 2007. In 2012, unemployed Millennials were much more likely than employed Millennials to be living with their parents (45% versus 29%).

* Rising college enrollment. In March 2012, 39% of 18- to 24-year-olds were enrolled in college, up from 35% in March 2007. Among 18 to 24 year olds, those enrolled in college were much more likely than those not in college to be living at home – 66% versus 50%.

* Declining marriage. In 2012 just 25% of Millennials were married, down from the 30% of 18- to 31-year-olds who were married in 2007. Today’s unmarried Millennials are much more likely than married Millennials to be living with their parents (47% versus 3%).

None of these trends–including rising college enrollment (which will actually fall, this next school year, as college enrollments are now declining)–are good for America. Rising college enrollment only makes the degree more and more worthless and a waste of time and money. It used to be a unique credential. Now, it’s like bus fare.

In any event, the numbers of young men living at home is depressing and a trend that will continue because America is doing nothing to strengthen the masculinity of the American male and everything to weaken it; because America is doing everything to continue to promote feminist disasters, such as single motherhood, on our country and destroy all traditional social institutions and backbone that once made this country great and now makes us just like Scandinavia, the rest of Europe, with a bad taste of the Middle East thrown in.

Remember, these women on their own, while the slacker “men” are at Mom’s, are the ones who voted 2-1 to re-elect Barack Obama. Expect that to be the Hillary dividend at the next go round. These women do not vote Republican and the Republican Party will lose forever. As for the slackers at home with mom, I’m not sure they even vote at all.

Good luck with that, America. Say Good-bye.

White men have a much harder time getting employed than white women, due to affirmative action. It is also easier for women to get into medical and law schools, to go to a more elite university, etc.

In government, I know white males with four degrees who are stuck in dead end jobs, while females with little more than a degree in Radio Television and Film are rapidly promoted.

In undergraduate schools, I saw women sleep and cheat their way into medical schools and in law school, I saw women sleep their way into top legal jobs . Men are left with…nothing.

Don’t be so quick to call those men who live at home, “slackers.” They have been discriminated against at every step of their young lives.

Also, as you have pointed out, White men, particularly straight white men, are constantly belittled by politically correct society. They are de-emphasized in the public schools, and there is no support system for them like there is for black students, females, and other minorities.

White males should stop serving in the military or donating their time or money to charity in this country. Maybe then this country would not take us for granted.

JEG: Good points. You are right, and I’ve pointed out the affirmative action for women and the belittling of men every step of the way in American culture. Still, I feel that there is a lot of slacker acceptance in our culture. Yes, affirmative action and PC against males is a reason for some of the slacker nation, but another reason is that it’s accepted in our welfare society and there is little ambition to be independent and work in our society because of the welfare state, the hip-hop culture, and a whole lot of other similarly negative influences. Jon, you are right. What are the guys supposed to do when they can’t get decent jobs and the ones they do get don’t pay the bills? What’s wrong with living with parents if you’re single and working and paying them some rent, contributing to food, doing your own laundry, etc. etc? Is is really better to have an unknown roommate who may be a weirdo, liar, cheater or druggie?

I’m a White Jewish kid. I got accepted to two US Medical Schools, graduated in 1988 with much debt which increased to $80,000 when I graduated from residency (during which time I moonlighted to pay off loans to some degree as the payment on our Medical School Loans started in residency).

I would have been considered “Live at Home” until age 22 as that was my mailing address and official residency (I was admitted to U of Illionois Med School as an instater, and UTMB as an out of stater). At age 25 I got my MD, and moved “out of house” forever; at age 30 I completed my residency and began my practice—I moved to rural Alabama and was fully busy from day 8. On July 12th, 2013 I celebrated my 20th Anniversary of Practice by working a full day running a State Psychiatric Hospital.

Jews have never profited by Affirmative Action, and it has never stopped us. Indeed, our joy is to have the odds tilted against us and come through anyway—look at what was done to Jonas Salk by Harvard, Hopkins, and the rest.

Now, I would have qualified for the “Living at Home Until 25” aspect of this breakdown. But I wasn’t, really—it was a mailing address. I was in Texas.

When I graduated from residency, within 18 months I had no further student debt. I had paid off the 80 K.

All this being said, I see a lot of cultural breakdown that is preventing the kids of this generation from reaching their full potential. I don’t know of many of them in the health field that want their MDs, for example—many more are happy with Nurse Practitioner degrees. I have seen a lowering of expectations.

Single mothers don’t raise boys to be hard-charging future industrialists. They raise them to be quiet, cooperative, self-sacrificing, and happy with whatever scraps fall from the table. That leaves mom with more time for dating.

    Scott M on August 2, 2013 at 7:21 am

White men have no future.

The culture tells them they aren’t needed. So they take it to heart.

The Dead European White Male is an increasingly endangered species.

NormanF on August 1, 2013 at 5:06 pm

Everything said in this article could be broken down into racial categories and then the differences and percentages really look stark.
Also everything Grant stated was dead on as well. Seen it all, and the women are usually extremely smug about their gains. As if they REALLY deserved it. Trying to get them to actually do their job half the time is nearly impossible. They can slam down the gender card at a moments notice. But watch out if one of them takes a shining to you and you don’t feel the same way. It’s really insane the way it works out.
Had a neighbor that decided to be the basement troll and ebayer for a living. What a waste as he listens to his moms XM radio and bubba the love sponge. Lost generation indeed.

When I listened to Stern, I NEVER listened to his copy-cats. I always like the ORIGINAL. Not some piss-poor facsimile.

Debbie, you say “Pew Research reports that nearly half of all Millennial males–aged 18-31–live at home with their parents, while just under a third of Millennial females do.”

But then you quote the results, which say:

“The men of the Millennial generation are more likely than the women to be living with their parents—40% versus 32%”

40% is not nearly half. Indeed, it is closer to the female level than to 50%. The difference between the sexes is, though, substantial, as it represents (as you note) a reversal of the traditional pattern where men were much more likely to leave home before women.

Other results are not tabulated very sensibly. For example, educational attainment combines two age brackets, one of which (18-24) includes a majority who would not be old enough to have graduated college.

skzion on August 1, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Is the cup 40% empty or 60% full? You decide Skzion. I’m feeling glum 🙁

(More important to me than whether it’s exactly 50% is which way it’s trending. Just very casually looking at the figures looks likes it’s over 50% for 18-24 age group. I wonder if the figures are much higher than they were 10 years ago.)

@Grant
You make some good points, however would you like to send your children to an urban school where the majority is black students, I think not. Public urban schools are the most degenerative nation-wide especially for black male students. The current agenda is to belittle the boys as much as possible plus get them hooked on drugs like Ritalyn and such, teach them all sorts of homosexual antics as a diversion but promote the girls and build them up for a career.

MANGOG on August 1, 2013 at 5:35 pm

I would never want to send a child to a public school, if I could afford not to. We even sent our dog to a private obedience school!

Jonathan E. Grant on August 1, 2013 at 5:41 pm

I f I couldn’t afford private school which is often no better regarding drugs and liberal garbage being taught, I would home school. It can be done even around a work schedule. It just takes some planning and creativity.

“As for the slackers at home with mom, I’m not sure they even vote at all.”

If they are voting, five’ll get ya’ ten they too are voting Democrat (and, last year, helped re-elect Obama, in spite of his policies screwing them big-time – as well as voting for “medical marijuana[sic]” and “gay” marriage in some certain states). But these trends are yet another strike against the 26th Amendment and whole business of allowing 18-year-olds to vote. (And I didn’t get to all the leftist brainwashing and indoctrination as far back as kindergarten that leaves them, at the point they turn 18, totally inculcated with leftist values.)

Great stats showing how 40-60 year olds have destroyed America. These stats are kind of like if old people poured garbage on young people, then released charts showing how they stink.

I’m grateful for JEGs post. He is spot-on and that it’s always good to be reminded of that valid point. I read a book in the mid 90’s about such things and it really was the catalyst for me seeing the TRUTH about Liberals. I am grateful for that enlightenment.

As DS points out there is another side to it. The un-Men ‘men’. These cretins can be blamed on women and feminazis, too.

In Italy they are called “Mommonies”. I can’t stand Mommonies…men who live with their mamas. A smart dame will RUN from a Mommoni…muy rapido!!

But there is a faux-male that is worse than the Mommonies…the cretinous “Baby Daddy”. Able to suck in air and proliferate because of disgusting, skank FEMALES who facilitate and let themselves be disrespected in such a vile way.

You are not respected by these faux-males. I don’t care if you’re Hollywood’s highest paying skank actress. These men are NOT men and just shag women to get their rocks off. The dumb bitchies who put up with it are even more dumb than the Blacks on the white Libtard plantation. Together, they make me projectile vomit.

Men who are faux-men and can’t live on their own or act like mature adults are nauseating. THEY should be shamed. Having weak (or no) Dads and battle-axe Mothers prolly made them that way. Along with this porno culture which CANNOT stand without complicit females…and there are many of those. Heaps.

And naggy, ball-busting, mental-cased females have NOT helped men be men in 2013. I do feel sorry when men have to put up with these dysfunctional shrews but that’s the unfortunate zeitgeist in 2013.

I blame women for this 51%. Men should smarten up and see how they are being gross, short-changed and emasculated. Starting yesterday! Don’t count on women to set you straight. We have ample proof women are too daft to do that, collectively. Those bitches became even worse then the men they demonized years ago.

Skunky on August 1, 2013 at 6:03 pm

Old people in America have jacked college tuition and cost of living up to prices unaffordable for 18 year olds. Humiliating them and forcing them into a state of dependency. Then through the US Dept of Education and affirmative action dispense the money to people based on parental income, race and gender. While screwing over hard-working, intelligent (and masculine) middle-class white males with higher grades and SAT scores. I take no responsibility for that. That was established before I was born.

I think it’s time for the older generations to take responsibility for systematically destroying the “education” system and the economy. Most men over 40 are not men. They don’t raise their children. They are self-absorbed sissies. And they are a generation who’s own parents left a great country with opportunity for them, and they in turn left a big mess for their own kids. They are a generation who are spoiled clowns and had it much easier than today’s youth. And like whiney babies they bitch at young people all day instead of taking responsibility for the sad condition they’ve left America in.

It’s not men 18-31 who’ve destroyed America. It’s men (and women) 40 and up who’ve created this mess. They created feminism, political correctness, affirmative action. They made heros out of single mothers and destroyed the family unit. They’ve been aggressively brainwashing children through television and pop music. Men 18-31 are simply the people who have inherited all of your garbage.

I notice also that you, like so many of your apparent generation, just can’t avoid blaming others for your own dysfunctions.

skzion on August 1, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Bomb, you’re talking about my generation and I have to agree to some extent. Don’t forget, folks, we were the “LOVE Generation” that came of age in the ’60s. But we were a product of the previous so called, but not, “Greatest Generation.” That was the generation that insisted on moving us to the sanitized suburbs, making us go to college when we would have preferred to become airplane mechanics or artists and who insisted we get “REAL” jobs, no matter how unsuited we were to them. Our rebellion was of no benefit and all it did was make us give up and turn into our parents. But the world had changed. It was no longer possible to get a job, work yourself up thru hard work and merit and live modestly while saving for the kids’ future. Everyone wanted more and more and they thought credit was the way to get it. We counted ourselves “rich” because our income was in the six digits but no one told us there is a negative side to the balance sheet and often our actual net worth was in the minus column. Our “revolution” failed and we caved in but we didn’t grow up. We still wanted it our way and we spawned a generation that are trophies but for whom we can’t be bothered caring for. We go our silly, self absorbed ways while the children and now grandchildren go theirs with no guidance, rules, values or goals. We became the blind leading the blind. I’m 67, one of the first Boomers. I’m saying it’s time for all my peers to gird up your loins and grow up. You might yet, reclaim your children and grandchildren.

I just mentioned the tome this evo! I told my sister that as a fan of horror (and other morbid things…) many books don’t scare me but I sited that book and Howie Carr’s book on Whitey Bulger called “The Brother’s Bulger” (read “Black Mass” if you read Howie Carr’s book….) that REALLY scared me.

Skunky on August 1, 2013 at 11:00 pm

I think you may be focusing on the wrong bit of the poll – the stat that sticks out to me is the only 29% employed, while 45 is unemployed and half are not in the labor force. That is why they are living at home – unable to find jobs, for many reasons that Jonathan Grant pointed out above.

And as for “ty for the abedin i been missing db” – F*ck you and your generation. You idiots are what brought us the ’60’s, hippies, drug culture, “if it feels good do it”, sexual revolution/liberation, removal of religion from the public sphere, and voted yourselves tons of shit to be paid for later and by others. The world we are in is the world YOUR GENERATION CREATED whether you like it or not. But you go ahead and take your social security and talk shit about us, the people paying for your lazy 30-years-on-retirement asses.

Matt on August 1, 2013 at 9:21 pm

Matt, I believe you have attacked the wrong person (ty).

skzion on August 1, 2013 at 10:00 pm

Matt, first of all, see my reply to Bomb above. Second, we paid into Social Security and I realize the fund is so far into the red that that money is long gone. However, there are many of us who believe and feel as tho 60 is the new 30. Employers however, do not share that feeling and ageism is a very real problem, even for those who have great CV’s. For those who never managed to make great careers but always paid their way, the last few years have been a disaster. My husband has been unemployed since he turned, oh, I guess, 47. All he could do was substitute teach and then janitorial or day work during the Summers. He’s only 60, so if Social Security even exists by then, he won’t be eligible until he’s 69. He would love to work and this is a world wide problem. We live in Israel and it’s just as bad, if not worse here. For that matter, even tho I am somewhat disabled, which caused me problems when we were still in the US, job wise, I could work if someone would have given me a chance. I was a third party contractor, which carries no EEO protection, at Merrill Lynch. When my mobility issues got severe enough to need a cane, I was let go because the lawyers were afraid I might fall and sue. They weren’t worried when I limped down the corridor holding the wall and could barely open the bathroom door, but as soon as I got the cane, I became a liability. I had no recourse because the contracting company really loved me. They even tried to intervene since my job involved sitting at reception all day. No deal. So, both you and Bomb are right to a large extent. I’ve said it before, the Boomers really screwed up, but for those of us who were always on the straight and narrow, we’ve been trying but the society that doesn’t understand Obamacare “death panels” isn’t helping. We’re the “Disposables” now.

Italkit on August 2, 2013 at 6:36 am

I meant to write, I had no recourse even tho the contracting company loved me, BECAUSE OF THE EEO REGULATIONS not covering third parties. Had my employer, the contracting company fired me, then I could have sued them.

Your diatribe is nothing more than crude, simple-minded baby boomer-bashing, straight out of a bad Dennis Prager column. Most people who have lived during and after the Sixties were NOT hippies. Not even close. And many among those who were aren’t “radical feminists” or even necessarily politically involved. To blame 78 million people, living or deceased, for a particular social problem is a cheap shot.

No mea culpas from this baby boomer.

Seek on August 2, 2013 at 2:31 pm

I admit that I’m not much into blaming generations. Tell me, who was responsible for creating the 60s radicals? Why, their so-called traditional parents. And one can keep going back this way.

I think it’s much more useful to concentrate on today’s pathologies and mitigate them. For example, huge numbers of babies are bastards. Wymyn don’t have bastards if they are confident said bastards will die. What does government do? It subsidizes them.

I repeat for the umpteenth time: when we consider offspring issues, sociobiology is a useful tool.

skzion on August 1, 2013 at 10:09 pm

sk, I think both, our “traditional” parents and we created it. I said as much in my reply to Bomb but briefly, because the [not so] Greatest Generation focused on materialism, competition and “rules” as the way to succeed, we rebelled for what we hoped would be a more enlightened society. The problem was it was an emotional, childish rebellion. It has no real leaders to give us direction or inspiration so we just became social anarchists without a plan or alternate strategy. When that got old, along with us, it died of it’s own accord, leaving a vacuum. We still didn’t want what our parents had, but we never laid a good foundation for ourselves, so we just went and did what they told us to do in the first place. The only problem is that they were successful because they really believed in Capitalism, Conservatism and all the rest, while we were just going thru the motions. I am using the corporate we even tho my first husband and I were never into to hippie movement. He had an MBA and was ROTC during Nam and I was a SAHW&M at an early age. But we did it to please our parents. it’s not what we wanted, well I did want to be traditionally domestic but he was miserable in corporate life. He’s the one who wanted to be an airplane mechanic, as I mentioned above, and he would have been a GREAT one. Instead, he was a mediocre cube farmer.

Sorry, my allergy meds are making me more than usually spacey. I didn’t finish my thought. Dissatisfaction at a job carries into the home life, Because he was unhappy that limited his climb up the ladder so, despite my having brought a modest inheritance to the marriage, he tried to pressure me into going to work to make up what he’d never achieve. We didn’t need it materially and I was happy. He knew I didn’t want to work when we married and he agreed. But rather than deal maturely with his mommy issues, that pressured him into the MBA, he blew up our marriage.

Italkit on August 2, 2013 at 6:52 am

The core leadership of the 60s radicals were people who were radical, mostly Communist Party, in the 30s. Although as the 60s wore on, more and more young people from traditional backgrounds joined in, the impetus was from those coming from really left-wing backgrounds. Without them, the 60s might have had some semblance of normality.

Little Al on August 1, 2013 at 10:15 pm

Little Al, I expect you are right regarding the core radicals of the 60s. (I’ll take your word for it.) But the mass of the 60s radical followers could not have come from such a background. Alas, they had children.

But why were these mass 60s types so susceptible to the core radicals? I man understand the pathologies of the children of the mass 60s types easily enough.

skzion on August 4, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Of course I meant their parents were Communist Party, or equivalent in the 30s.

Little Al on August 1, 2013 at 10:17 pm

I myself am born a bastard. I don’t like to blame others for it though. I take full responsibility. It’s important for young people like myself to stop blaming others and take responsibility for the things selfish, lazy, irresponsible older people have done to us.

People of prior generations were manly enough to be born with fathers. And mothers who cooked dinner and parents who saved up for their educations. But babies born right now are too lazy and girly to be born into that kind of situation. Damned kids nowadays.

Bomb on August 1, 2013 at 10:27 pm

I live in a neighborhood where the feminized white males have all been castrated. They typically think they are smarter than everyone else, always have a device in which they text non-stop, they wear those stupid skinny pants, they wear some kind of purse, every word out of their mouth is, “like,” they tend to congregate at Starbucks, they give the overall appearance of a weakling and they typically instigate some type of incident or altercation. When they are called on it, they act like they are going to do something, then they bait you and then the call the cops to have you arrested. This is a typical ploy in SF and Berkeley.

AR on August 1, 2013 at 10:58 pm

AR, How do you survive? I can handle a few of that type but you get more then that together and it might as well be a bunch of women, no insult intended! I am a gen. X baby, born in 1969. Most of us would be considered the grand kids of the greatest generation. I am hoping as we start to move into political power some of the radical positions will begin to reverse. I spent lots of time with my WWII veteran grandfather, he was engineer before the war and became a NCO during. My experience with him, working in his store and listening to his conservatism is what guides me now.

Well, I have to admit it is tough. You couple this with women wanting to be men, men wanting to be women, a saturation of communists, corruption wherever you turn, and socialists that enable the criminals and illegals, then you simply have a ticket for mass destruction of western civilization.

What is perplexing is that younger women, sometimes very good looking, fall for these so-called hipsters that could not fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Ask them to do a simple task like taking a 1/2″ box wrench and removing something from a car is an impossibility. If it cannot be sent by text or if it is not an app, then the simply cannot do it. They are only capable of doing what was taught to them in school and that is to do anything that fits into the communist agenda.

Not only was your grandpa part of the greatest generation but he was also smart. Some of the residue of success and greatness will have no doubt rubbed off on you.

It is a sad and embarrassing development.

One more point about Affirmative Action. When I was in aviation college an airline that was later bought by USAir was hiring female pilot candidates with half of the flight hours they were hiring male pilot candidates. When 90% of the applicants were men the only way the airline could prove they weren’t discriminating against women was to hire them. Before that I was in engineering school. If you were a women you received multiple job offers before your senior year because there were so few female applicants and companies needed to show proof they were recruiting women.

My student debt burden (finally paid off after 21 years) forced me out of my chosen field into a decidedly blue-collar alternative that is now filling up with illegal immigrants. I feel like the biggest sucker for playing by the rules.

It is a sad commentary but unfortunately has happened to millions of Americans.

What is sad frustrating and outright propaganda is that yesterday while returning from work, I seen a billboard ad that had a bottle of orange juice. It looked like a corporate ad but was actually propaganda that indicated that 98% of Americans support amnesty and immediate citizenship for the illegals, they create jobs and stimulate the economy, and are productive people that do not use social services but work instead.

Let us put it bluntly. The leftists, the communists in our midst, have succeeded in destroying America. In 20 years, our country will resemble Mexico, or worse.

Our only hope is for the South and many of the Western States to secede, and form a new Confederate States of America (and for those thinking racism, the South has more elected black officials than the rest of the country combined). The South produces more cars than Detroit, more oil, more natural gas, has a strong biotech industry, has schools such as Georgia Tech, Duke, University of Texas, Tulane, produces more writers, produces more coal, nuclear power, etc. than the North, has more beaches, has better fishing, etc.

I pray I will be in the South if and when this happens, because without a new Confederate States, we are done for.

Civil war again is inevitable. This may be a way that would correct all of the wrong. If not, then America will likely collapse from all of the internal and external forces that are contributing to the fall of western society. I think we will have something similar to what went down in Bosnia. I hope I am wrong, but it is a possibility.

Perhaps the politicians know this and they are stockpiling 2 billion rounds of defense loads and armor to prepare for such an action.

Actually Bomb made a good point, but with the wrong generation. The hippy generation brought the b.s. for the most part. They were the ones I noticed as a young man, as the ones that were coming to work drunk, acting like they didn’t have to do a good job half the time in every job I’ve held. Then the affirmative action crowd was a nice touch, but none of the hippy generation had the balls to get rid of it or the career politicians like Rangle or, Bird, or any of those brain dead ass wipes that called themselves Kennedys. In the military I was forced to listen to borderline retarded people. Couldn’t believe the lack of background checks in important positions. Now look what we have. PC military crap gets people killed, Skinny pants, hair buns on dudes(sort of), and grown men sucking mommys titty as they are well into their 30’s. Done.

I don’t know why this would bother anybody in the first place. Maybe these kids just figured out that real estate’s a rip-off anyway, and the price is right with mom & dad.
Just doesn’t seem like any of my business…

“Who said never trust anyone over 30?

It has been attributed to Bob Dylan, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, and The Beatles. It is likely, however, that they all got it from Jack Weinberger, a free speech activist, who was quoted with the phrase in 1964, in the San Francisco Chronicle.”

Generational conflict is key.

If you do not understand this then you will be forever “dancing to music you do not hear”.

Paying off student loans and saving for a down payment on a home are much smarter strategies than blowing most of one’s salary on overpriced rents! My friend’s twin sons just co-bought a house with a combined $50,000 down payment, by just staying home for three years after college, and saving half their net pay. How were they irresponsible and lazy? How many 25- year olds are already homeowners?

nicole on August 3, 2013 at 3:11 pm

I disagree with this post.
Men living at home more is not caused by “girlie nation” or feminism. It is caused by the economy alone.

Buying your own home and moving out is far harder financially than it once was in the USA.
Well paying male jobs in factorys and many other places have gone to China, leaving only female dominated service jobs.
The figures on the US economy are often manipulated to make the economy look better than it is.

The figures given here are also manipulated to include men still in college.
Sorry but this is a sign of the American economy stagnating, not men’s gender roles.

Leah on August 3, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Skzion brought up a point about the difference between 50 & 40, but something else that I don’t think very many people noticed, of the percentage of millenial women not living at home, how many are live-in girlfriends? It’s something I’ve noticed a lot of growing up.

Ghost of 503 on August 4, 2013 at 3:27 am

That, in an era of prosperity and stability where young men could easily get well-paying, full-time jobs to pay for these homes.
No affirmative action quotas and double standards supporting females over males either.

But this era is now coming to an end because people wheren´t able to handle the good life following the world war.
So there was the great moral/ethical downfall of the western societies. The split between the young and old, the counter-culture and all that garbage.

In the current era of ongoing collapse, with great disasters and much suffering at hand, it is naught but an unnecessary luxury.
Independence? That is good but today, that would be well-hidden reserves of food, water and ammunitions, the skills, training to survive and the will to struggle on in a dying society.

Don’t give in to apathy, comrades! This sick world is coming to an end, we stand at the dawn of a new era, a dawn that will claim the ignorant in its wake!

40 Percent Of U.S. Workers Make Less Than What A Full-Time Minimum Wage Worker Made In 1968

http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/40-percent-of-u-s-workers-make-less-than-what-a-full-time-minimum-wage-worker-made-in-1968

Mind you, this is taking into account the inflation rates as given by the US governement, the real inflation rate is much higher and have been so for a while.
The unemployement statistics are manipulated too, the real unemployement is over 20% and of course, the average lenght of unemployement is much longer too.

North Am, as a whole, is poorer than 40, 20 or even at the official end of the last recession. The jobs being lost are living-wage jobs and the jobs “created” are third-world ones, except at least the Chinese factory workers actually produce something.

So next time libtards bring up the horrors of racism, progress and social justice since the 1960s and all that bull…

The struggle is on people, whever you like it or not! Although things certainly seems difficult and obscure right now, remember the words of wiseman, that for those who fight for it, life has a flavor, a greatness the sheltered will never know.
