Whole Foods “Libertarian” John Mackey Takes Millions From Govt to Put Small Biz Owners Outta Biz

By Debbie Schlussel

Remember when a buncha morons on the right–including Michelle Fraudkin–gushed over Whole Foods’ CEO John Mackey, the self-proclaimed “Libertarian”–when he spoke out against Obamacare, and they urged us to buy products from Whole Foods, even though the pretentious supermarket chain is anti-Israel, pro-Muslim, and dumped all Israeli olive oil (and many other Israeli products) in favor of Palestinian terrorist HAMAS olive oil? Well, like many prominent self-described “libertarians,” Mackey is only Libertarian when it comes to spending HIS money on you. When it comes to spending YOUR money on him, well . . . he’s not so libertarian, after all. Mackey demanded and accepted millions (at least $5.8 million up front and more to come in the future) in federal, state, and local tax funds to subsidize the Whole Foods store he just opened this week in Detroit. Yeah, that’s “libertarian” . . . like Rosie O’Donnell is “hot.” And, I’m told, Mackey plans to use this template of tax money grabs for new stores in inner cities around the country. Cha-ching!

Billionaire Whole Foods CEO John Mackey: A “Libertarian” Who’s Just Plain Liberal When It Comes to Spending Your Money on Him

On Wednesday, a bunch of liberal Democrat politicians from Michigan, including Democrat Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, joined Whole HAMAS Foods execs as they cut the ribbon and opened the doors for the Detroit Whole Foods store. Meanwhile, supermarket owners (most of them Chaldeans–Catholics of Iraqi descent) in the area–who’ve busted their buts and sacrificed for decades to keep their stores open and surviving in the crime-ridden area–get nothing from the government, as John Mackey’s store is propped up by taxpayers to compete against them. What’s that, you say? Whole Foods is expensive and caters to an upper-class crowd that won’t compete against the regular markets in the area? WRONG. In fact, the tax millions went not only to building the store, but also go to subsidizing lower prices and more “soul food” products to appeal to the poorer Detroiters in the area and get them to shop there.

Was it really necessary for government dollars to go to open a fancy schmancy upper-class, pretentious supermarket in Detroit’s inner city? What’s next–tax dollars to build Bergdorf Goodman’s in the area, too? Hey, why not a Ferrari dealership, and you can subsidize the price of the expensive sportscar ride? Isn’t that the purpose of government–to make rich people feel all tingly because they brought their pretentious shopping venues to the little people and used YOUR money to do it? Government shouldn’t be in the real estate or supermarket biz. And the Detroit Whole Foods store is a joint venture between Ram Realty Services, Inc–owned by Peter Cummings, the gazillionaire son-in-law of late billionaire Max Fisher–and Mackey’s Whole Foods, either of which can well afford to pay the millions for the project more than the working stiff taxpayers. But that’s not how it goes for fake libertarians who use you and your money to get rich quick.

Let John Mackey be an example for you: many wealthy, prominent “libertarians” are LINOs–Libertarians In Name Only. Another such person this reminds me of Daniel Aronoff, a past officer of the Michigan Libertarian Party. In 2006, he got the federal government to earmark $10 million for roads around Florida land he owned and was developing into some sort of real estate development.

Like I said, these guys are only libertarian when it comes to government spending THEIR money. When it comes to government spending everyone else’s money on them, they’re just plain liberals.

Yup – these are people who don’t need government money! And they rail against welfare and government assistance to the poor.

All this while they’re taking taxpayers’ money and there is a certain term that comes in mind to them.

“Libertarians” want government to stay out of people’s lives. In their own case, what they preach is what they don’t practice. Follow the money.

Its beyond disgusting!

he will find out what other supermarkets found out about detolit, that the maggots will eat up any profit and he will have to close.

Kind of reminds of the “libertarian” ex-congressman, Ron Paul. When confronted with the possibility of giving up his Social Security payments, Rep. Paul, a millionaire several times over, refused.

Why shouldn’t he get SOME of HIS money back?

David Lanham on June 7, 2013 at 11:45 pm

Yup. They tell poor working stiffs government isn’t the solution but these well-heeled types never refuse government assistance when it benefits THEM. They just don’t want you to have it because it makes them feel superior to you! Libertarians find that following their own ideals is easier said than done. That’s a reason why people don’t take them all that seriously.

NormanF on June 7, 2013 at 2:43 pm

Admittedly, this store has some quality merchandise; but I never shop there because it is extremely expensive. Aside from that, I cannot stand being around all of the Berkeley (communist-types) that frequent that joint. It is pretty nauseating to see all of the skunky-type women that are foul and have hair growing from under their arms. Then they claim to be for the environment but carry those paper bags with handles. I wonder if they realize that trees have to put harvested so that the communists can have bags from this store.

This guy doesn’t sound like a libertarian to me, if he we’re a true libertarian, he wouldn’t have collected a contract from the government worth tons of money, so DS is right, this dude is a “LINO” and is fiscally a left winger.

Many of us on the political right wing happen to be real and true libertarians, of us wanting the state to bud out of our business and everybody elses business, don’t collect handouts or contract money from the state, etc.

And I also remember back in 2011 when Debbie wrote a few articles of Whole Foods on them with their shady services and business of excluding certain Israeli made products. When DS called out Whole Foods at the time, a certain moron from “LGF” (Charles Johnson) attacked and discredited Debbie on his failed blog like the bully he his, and to her own credit, DS called out that moderator from LGF on this blog to prove that he’s full sh*t and is wrong on his writings of attacking the poor lady for who knows what.

All aboard for liberal amounts of crony capitalism.

If whole foods is so successful, what’s he doing taking taxpayer money? Where does this stop with these hand out helper vote buyers? wallyworkswell@yahoo.com

In the mid-1970s, I requested Political Party Platforms from every Party I could contact so I could make an informed decision for whom to vote. Ever since, I have been libertarian, Libertarian, and as Objective Ayn Rand-ish as possible.

Question: If someone uses force to take from you, steals from you, or embezzles you property from you; do you have a Right to get it back?

If a group of related entities initiate Laws that extract 50.1% or more of your income, are you a free person or are you a slave? http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/slavery

I suggest that Ayn Rand’s works be read. I suggest that H.R. 25 be read. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d113:h.r.25:

I further suggest that purging Envy from one’s life is a necessary goal so rational decisions can be made to improve oneself and the society in which one lives.

Make a list of areas of total government involvement / agencies and, honestly, extract those you think can only be done by Government.

Finally, read Stockman’s DEFORMATION and learn how the game has been rigged by the Fed, Big Banks, Big Business, Politicians, Unions, and large, non-profit organizations.

If 100+ years of Progressives / Marxists has not shown you the wrong road, well, Le monde va lui-meme. Au Revoire!

ps. Visit a Reservation and ask how Government has worked for them???

Dennis on June 7, 2013 at 3:50 pm

Why does no one in these situations get mad at the government? If the government is committing the sin of doling out money to businesses, of course businesses are going to take it. And as a publicly traded company like Whole Foods, you are duty-bound to your shareholders to do so. We don’t have Capitalism (a truly free market) we have Corporatism/Fascism where corporations are linked to the State. We also have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. In such a confiscatory environment, even libertarian businesses will take anything they can. Remember Atlas Shrugged’s pirate Ragnar Danneskjold?

Heinz Schmitz on June 7, 2013 at 4:18 pm

Well, they might turn out to be profitable, though. I’m sure the ‘beverage’ section will do well. And if the stock needed household items like kerosene, the store will thrive.

Seriously though, WF is not really expecting that much business at the store. It is only a fraction of the size of its average stores around the country, so they know that there isn’t much of a market for their foods in Detroit.

But there is something else going on here. As we know, Detroit is in trusteeship, a short step away from bankruptcy. Of course, none of the Democratic politicians or their me-too Republican followers want to see this happen, and they hope they can convince the trustee that this is an example of Detroit’s bright economic future. Thus the tax money, the politicians, and who knows what kind of coercion behind the scenes.

Whole Foods is seeking government handouts from the City of Indianapolis for a store they want to open near a home-grown organic grocery store in a booming part of the city no more than 2 miles from where the chain has another store. Certain companies seemed to be chosen as being worthy of public subsidies to compete against other businesses. I don’t even recognize this country any more. Since when did it become the business of government to decide who wins and who loses in the business world?

Gary Welsh on June 7, 2013 at 5:05 pm

The dangr of Govt involved in business that makes one successful and another fail! It happens all the time! They follow peoples vehicles to learn anything they can to disrupt that biz operation in anyway they can! Democrats are the HandOutHelpers Leaders in America! The Republicans are in mix too! We could say Govt is too big! Then again,if President Eisenhower hadn’t acted with big govt power by using Fed Troops to escort 9 black children into Central H.S. past Arkansas state national guard posted by the Arkansas Governor,we would still have segragation? It’s the people we elect that make the difference! We have 4yrs of economic trauma with the current re-elected President & his Blind Democrat followers! Voters need to study who they vote for!wallyworkswell@yahoo.com

For whatever reason, if you take government money in any form, I consider you a traitor to the citizens of the United States.

We are supposed to stand on our own, on a fair and level playing field. Whoever skews that field, however, has a karmic debt to pay which will be staggering.

Jack on June 7, 2013 at 5:57 pm

I wonder if Debbie counts Les Gold, one of Detroit’s and USA
infamous pawnbrokers, as one of her clients.
Hardcore Pawn is a reality show that portrays Detroit
and the Gold family as greedy purveyors that feeds a
stereotype far more damaging than John Mackey.

J: I don’t know the Golds, have nothing to do with them, never met ’em, and have never seen the show. But that show is staged more than any reality show I know of. The producers have contacted friends and clients of mine off of Craig’s List asking them to bring in their stuff and telling them to act out scenes. Not sure how this has a single thing to do with the post, other than your desire to attack Jews, as the Golds are obviously Jewish. The Golds built their own business and everyone who comes into their pawn shop does so of their own free will. Not sure how you equate this with being worse than a scummy billionaire phony libertarian shaking down taxpayers to subsidize him to compete against small businesses who get no such support. Perhaps your Jew-hatred gets the best of your every thought and argument. Funny how you have no prob with Pawn Stars, which is the same show, except that the pawn shop owners aren’t Jews. Hmmm . . . . DS

Commander Zero on June 7, 2013 at 7:58 pm

If you don’t see the relevance of a pawnbroker
operating a 50,000 square foot emporium in an economic
cesspool like Detroit and the demeanor of the owners’
no matter what their ethnicity then may be your Rabbi can
explain it to you. Whole Foods isn’t holding a gun to anyone’s head who shops there, but the bruthas and sistas who patronize
pawnshops aren’t required to bring sales receipts and look like thugs as do the proprietors. Shabbat shalom.

Commander Zero on June 7, 2013 at 9:31 pm

Whole Foods is holding a gun to my head, making me pay for their state-run store for welfare leeches. Whether or not that pawn shop is reputable is irrelevant.

David Lanham on June 7, 2013 at 11:39 pm

Looks like Commander Zero is as much of a racist as an anti-semite. Did he have to give up something to a pawnbroker, or get ‘too low’ a price for junk he tried to palm off?

Little Al on June 8, 2013 at 8:18 am

So, now we’ll have free grocery stores for the welfare parasites, too. This is just an expansion of the EBT program. Instead of directly increasing the free money on their cards, the stores will be re-imbursed by us. State run stores. That’s par for the course because Walmart is already partly state run. They are the biggest recipient of EBT money and they lobby your congressman constantly to increase all the welfare programs.

David Lanham on June 7, 2013 at 11:33 pm

A movie with German Nuns, a guy driving by in a station wagon and a church in need of being built was a movie called Lilies of the field! The people, the businessman who gave left over bricks etc,was a movie about Human nature & Capitalisms ability to meet needs freely when & where needed! Homer was great! I’ve admired him since the early sixties! Freedom,Capitlaism,God,are things I associate with him!Maybe Whole foods will give the money back to us as it becomes successful and not state run or owned! wallyworkswell@yahoo.com

Remember the black gang “flash mob” who took control of the small gas station- snack store and the cops couldn’t handle it? What’s going to happen here??

bobby99 on June 8, 2013 at 12:50 am

I weep for Detroit, a once proud, tough, epicenter and symbol of American grit now reduced to rubble so that it doesn’t even cast a shadow of its former self and is unrecognizable.

DS_ROCKS! on June 8, 2013 at 3:26 am

He’s just taking back what’s his. Every libertarian does this.

>Government steals your money with exorbitant taxes
>Government offers aid funded by your money
>You take it back

I couldn’t think of anything more consistent and logical.
