It’s PAT BENATAR.

She looks pretty good for 60 and has been married to her lead guitarist second husband, Neil “Spyder” Geraldo for 31 years. Sadly, she was an early adapter to keffiyeh chic.

Below are my fave Pat Benatar tunes (which are on my iPod for working out). Does this make me a “mullethead”?

Definitely not Joan Jett. Joan has all but come out as a Lesbian. So much for the bad news.

Jett has toured extensively with the USO and supported the troops. As far as I know, she is at least marginally pro-Israel. Jett is finally starting to show her age, but she has always been very physically fit. I know I could NOT keep up wither her in an aerobics workout and she’s just a year or two younger than I am.

If you look at Joan Jett’s videos from when she was young, especially with The Runaways, you’ll notice that she is far and away more physically stronger than the other girls. The woman is built like a rock.

I guessed right. Always been a fan. She should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but will probably never be because the R & R Hall of Fame is Way Too Political.

Yes, Pat looks very nice for 60. However, the latest photo shown is very flattering, and avoids the neckline, which, unfortunately, tends not to hide age very well, regardless of how well a person eats, exercises, etc.

I am very glad to hear that Rush was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (And no, we’re not talking about Limbaugh, in case any of you don’t know who Rush is.) I had completely lost respect for the Cleveland museum based on its previous refusal to induct Rush, and several other major contributors to Rock music–who have still not been inducted. and may never be, including such major talents as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Yes, Deep Purple, and Foreigner.

Saw her several years ago in concert. She did an acoustic version of “Love is a Battlefield” – just her vocal and her husband on acoustic guitar. It was awesome.

By my estimation, 99.9% of all non-Muslims who you see wearing a scarf like that haven’t the vaguest idea about any ethno-political implications. It’s just a slight variation on your garden variety hound’s tooth pattern with some fringes. That particular photo looks like she went to a studio to have some publicity glamour shots taken of her, and the photographer just threw it over her because it happened to match that heavily shoulder-padded garment she’s also wearing.

Whoo-hoo! I knew (before I saw the pic) when I saw the last name.

I love Pat Benatar. Big fan. The first album I bought with my own money was “Crimes Of Passion”.

I like her first 4 CDs and especially love her blues CD. After her 4th CD was not such a fan (but as I said, I liked that blues CD).

Any gal who loves rock-n-roll has to love Pat Benatar! I like that she’s still with her hubby too, who is a great guitarist!

Pretty sure she was doing one of the televised stages in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, and she sounded and looked great, her husband the guitarist was really good, long time marriage, handled herself with class throughout her career. Everyone has problems, and I don’t recall ever hearing about hers! Local lore is that her husband (the first one must’ve been?)was stationed at Fort Jackson here in Columbia, SC and she worked as a bank teller before she made it to the big time, but who knows if that is entirely true. When ‘Love is a Battlefield’ video came out back in the MTV early days, it was on heavy rotation, and me and my friends could do that group dance by heart, so much fun. Thanks Debbie, things are so grotesque and heavy lately, it’s nice to remember positives.

I love Pat Benatar.

When you said she was sixty years old and formally trained as a classical opera singer, I knew who it was.

Did you know that the first time she dolled up and performed as a rock singer, that she did it as a joke, not expecting to be taken seriously?

I had no idea. She looks awesome. I liked her, great voice, but a lot of her songs were pretty generic.

Look up Rachel Sweet singing “Shadows of the Night” and she’s 10 times better than Benatar’s version.

One thing I’ll never forgive Benatar. “Love is a Battlefield” is the worst video in history. Beyond awful. When Benatar and the other tramps are shaking their chests in the dance of doom for the killer pimp…….oh man, just awful. The song was pretty awful, too.

LOL, Jeff_W you are right about the video. That’s so funny you know the Rachel Sweet version. Do you know the Helen Schneider one? Pat’s is the best IMHO and then Helen’s but I also love Rachel Sweet’s version as you do.

That picture is so cool. It reminds me of “52 Vincent Black Lightning” and the guy sings “Red hair and black leather/my favourite colour scheme”. 😀

A couple of things about the real music of our lives…

a)Pat Benatar is one of 3 women whom I consider to be the 3 queens of mullet metal.

The other two happen to be Canadians: Lee Aaron (nee Karen Greening) and Darby Mills, lead singer of the Headpins (not to be confused with the Headstones, who happen to be in a class of their own, and will shortly be having a brand new album in over a decade).

b) Pat’s breakthrough hit, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, was written by Eddie Schwartz, a Canadian.

c) Do you know who’s also Canadian and Jewish? Geddy Lee (ne Gary Weinrib) from Rush. Their induction into the RHOF is way too freaking overdue. I’m still waiting for King Crimson, Yes, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Kiss, etc…

d) Goddamn – she still looks hot. Talk about putting the “sex” into “sexagenarian”!

e) I stand corrected on the first point – there were in fact 6 ladies whom I would consider queens of mullet rock, each in their own special way.

In addition to the three I’ve mentioned:

Patty Smyth, the lead singer for Scandal who sang “The Warrior”.

Alannah Myles, who sang “Love Is” and “Black Velvet”. She’s also Canadian.

(Lisa) Dalbello, originally from Woodbridge, ON (yes, another Canadian). Not necessarily metal, but consider the fact that she was once a disco-pop star who decided to take a different route to musical prominence.

Feel free to YouTube these divas. I shall get on with life in the meantime.

AP: I recall watching Myron do his thing backing up PB on a TV show (maybe “Fridays”?) and he did one heck of a gong hit during “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.

Benatar was/is the bomb, but I’d always give props to the crew charged with delivering it!

I was 25 when MTV first aired and I had never seen cable tv either at tht point in my life.

I was stationed at Langley Air Base in ’82 and we had cable tv in our dorm day room.
I was hypnotized.
Country boy from the backwoods of Mississippi seein cable tv and MTV both at the same time and Miss Pat Benatar had some big hits at the time.

Pat Benatar is awesome. When I was in college I had a side job working security at an outdoor amphitheater that had a lot of acts come through. What was cool was that they all practiced during the day before the public came and because I worked there I could watch. Well most of the musicians were very standoffish and you could be fired if you bothered them.
Well one day Pat was playing that night and a middle aged lady in jeans and a t shirt came up to the sound booth and told the sound guys that she wanted some things tweaked. One of the dummies called security (not knowing who it was) because she just said “hey, I’m Pat and I don’t like the way this sounds—it needs some more bass). I came up and then they realized who it was. Most musicians would have been furious, but she just laughed and chatted with us.
She was very down to earth and cool and from that day on I have always liked her music. Now if I ever see Axl Rose again I’ll put him in a hospital (biggest jerk I ever met).

Ahhhhh yes, Pat Benetar was one of my HUGE crushes in the 80s, not just because of her hot looks but because of the emotioons you could feel in her songs. She’s on my iPod too so if that makes you a mullethead Debbie then sit tight and I’ll drop by with my El Camino while I wear my sleeveless tee shirt and we can crank the tunes! LOL

Man Debie I love it when you post stuff like this. Say what you will about the 80s but you couldn’t knock the music, hair styles, cartoons etc. I just couldn’t get enough of Pat Benatar. Back when MTV actually played music videos she was one of my major crushes (along with The Bangles and Madonna before she became a whacko). Pat looks pretty good for 60 years old and when you asked the question beforehand I immediately knew who you were talking about. I’m not musically inclined but one of my favorite things is playing “Hit Me WIth Your Best Shot” on Guitar Hero.
