HILARIOUS: Meet Barack Obama’s Fave Israeli Jew, “Ploni Almoni”

By Debbie Schlussel

As you probably know, right now Barack Obama is in Israel and met with far-left crotchety, old figurehead President of Israel, Shimon Peres, the man behind almost every self-destructive Israeli policy and land concession and the man who is handing Obama some BS award he never earned. And, yet, even with this Israeli President gushing over him, Obama and his speechwriters don’t get it right because they are simply phoning it in. They don’t care much for Israel and the Jews, and they make stark mistakes and deliberate missteps to let Israel and the Jews know. I already mentioned that Obama is dissing Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, by skipping speaking there in favor of speaking to hand-picked liberal American college students in Israel. But, then, there is what Obama said with Peres at his side, as noted by Boycott Watch‘s Fred Taub on Twitter, this morning:

plonitweet

President Ploni Hussein Almoni Finally Visits Israel

At a press conference or speech with Peres, Obama praised “Ploni the miracle worker from the Talmud.” But there is no such person. As any learned Torah Jew (or just a Hebrew speaker) knows, “Ploni” or “Plony” is short for “Ploni Almoni” or “Plony Elmony,” which is Hebrew for “John Doe” or “so and so” or “some [not important enough to name] person.” (The female vernacular of the term would be “Plonya” or “Plonya.”) The term is used frequently in the Talmud and throughout Jewish texts, and it’s something I learned (at a private Jewish school) in Second Grade. Unlike Muslims, I don’t expect people to know my religion or its language (Biblical Hebrew). (I’d rather they didn’t do anything involving my religion but were instead pro-American national security and pro-Israel, which are inextricably linked.) But I do expect Barack Obama to treat the Jews and American-ally Israel with at least a modicum of the butt-kissing respect with which he treats all other countries in the region, all of which hate us (and that’s where my expectations are way too high, right?).

If this was a Muslim or Arabic thing, they’d get it exactly right, but they take Jews and Israel for granted and couldn’t spare the seconds for online research. And as Fred Taub points out, they don’t even have an informed rabbi who legitimately knows Judaism that they can ask. They probably have hundreds of imams they consult on everything Islam.

All you–and Obama’s speechwriters–would have to do is google it, though, to know what it means. But Obama’s speechwriters are lazy when it comes to Israel and the Jews. As I said, they just don’t care much, just as when Obama posed with an upside down Haggadah [Passover dinner ceremonial book] when he pretended to celebrate Passover, and his chef said Jews should vote for Obama because he eats hummus and latkes on Passover (most Jews are not allowed to eat hummus on Passover and latkes are a Chanukah food). So, instead, Obama talks about a “famous miracle worker named Ploni.” Not only is there no such person, but it’s an insult because it’s like saying there are no Jewish or Israeli miracle workers he can name, so he refers to an anonymous “John Doe” miracle worker.

This, regarding the people and country who’ve performed many a miracle–spiritual, medical, high tech, and otherwise.

Thanks, Obama, er . . . President Ploni Hussein Almoni. Ya stepped in it again.

At least we know his priorities: golf, basketball, picking his Final Four brackets, pronouncing Arabic words perfectly, taking fancy vacations, etc, etc, etc………

Give the man credit for being full of it and patronizing.

His arrogance and ignorance isn’t winning him friends in Israel.

NormanF on March 20, 2013 at 1:08 pm

Maybe he confused reading right to left with reading upside down.

Little Al on March 20, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Don’t let ’em mock you, Obama, Ploni is my favorite Talmudic character as well. May he continue to work miracles!

David Weisskopf on March 20, 2013 at 1:26 pm

He probably meant “Choni Hameagel” – Drew a circle around the place he was standing and prayed for rain, I think, promising he won’t exit that space till God complies.

Stealthcook on March 20, 2013 at 1:33 pm

Your bias is so fixed and rigid you cannot see the forest for the trees this time. The critics who claim to support Israel are 100% certifiable. And I’m a registered Republican who did not vote for Barry, twice. Repeat, NOT. Twice. But this is a great moment and if you cannot see that or share the joy – it is a pity. For you. Am Yisrael chai!

bigrobtheactor on March 20, 2013 at 1:36 pm

Duh, I guess your grammatical skills match your political skills. You did not vote for him TWICE. Does that mean you voted for him ONCE? Does it mean you did not vote for him? YOur language clarity matches your political clarity.

And you are an actor? Does this mean your comment is make-believe?

But dumb people feed at the trough now in preference to everyone else, so I guess it doesn’t matter.

Little Al on March 20, 2013 at 2:18 pm

Mustafa, I doubt that you are a Republican or Jewish. Also, how are people who actually support Israel certifiable? Israelis have no illusions about Barack Obama. Try looking at an Israeli poll sometime.

Is it a great day for Israel when Barack Obama refuses to even speak in the Knesset? Any self-respecting prime minister would never invite the man for a return visit after such an insult.

Miss Schlussel, Et Alii:

In your article, you wrote:

That’s an interesting choice of words.

I say almost the same thing at my own personal web site, “OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE”, stating in one (or more) of my posts that,

“While that principle (alleged separation of Church and State) may hold true (and, in reality, it probably doesn’t) when discussing or comparing other faiths and other nations, I do not see how there can be such a similar separation between our United States of America and my chosen faith, The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, nor even the State of Israel, as the history and ultimate destiny of all three entities are combined into one common cause and/or purpose.”

As you know, many, MANY long years ago, I had the privilege of touring the land of Israel, and being the only Christian on a Jewish tour, I learned quite a bit, thanks to their generosity and tolerance of my abysmal ignorance.

But, until now, I’d never heard of “Ploni Almoni”.

It sounds like an old Rock ‘n’ Roll song from the ‘Fifties or ‘Sixties.

“I’ve got a girl named, Boney Maroney.
She’s as skinny as a stick of macaroni.
When she walks by with her blue jeans on,
She ain’t hardly nothin’ but skin and bone.
But, I love her, and she loves me.
Oh, how happy we will be
Makin’ love underneath the apple tree!”

At least, that’s how I remember it, although it’s been many years.

Thank you.

Its not laziness. Hussein Obama, the half-white man, doesn’t know a darned thing about Choni or Ploni. His writers though, and they know exactly what they are writing, they have all the time in the world, and are well paid. THis cannot be passed off as a mistake.
Now THE plony almony of the Book of Ruth, did not want to marry Ruth. He did not want to do yibum. Because he didnt, Boaz did, and from Ruth and BOaz we have David, the King Mashiakh!
Shimon Peres does not want to do right (like ploni), and therefore his name will not even be mentioned in history. PEres is the ploni almoni. The nobody, the one who does not bring Mashiakh, or even tries to stop him! Had ploni married Ruth, HE would have brought Mashiakh!

Pinhas Erez on March 20, 2013 at 3:17 pm

It is traditional for visiting Heads of State to address the legislative body of the foreign country. Carter, Clinton and Bush have all addressed the Knesset. Obama instead plans to speak to a hand picked group of students in Jerusalem. Obama’s staff invited students from every University except Ariel University which is located in Samaria. Is Obama afraid of questions from Members of the Knesset or University students who don’t agree with his policies?
I doubt anything substantive will come out of this trip.

PaulaMalka on March 20, 2013 at 3:34 pm

MOST Jews in the world are allowed to eat hummus on Passover, alongside our rice cakes. It’s just American Jews who, being MOSTLY from Eastern Europe, who are not permitted to. Actually, if Obama were a Jew, he’d fit into the hummus eaters category but you can have him, we don’t want him. And the latke and Plony comments were beyond stupid.

Italkit on March 20, 2013 at 3:52 pm

Debbie is Ashkenazi and follows the custom in not eating kitniyot during Passover. Most American Jews follow it.

On the other hand, Sephardim don’t.

NormanF on March 20, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Yes she is, Norm and she doesn’t speak for “most” Jews outside the US.

Italkit on March 21, 2013 at 7:36 am

Debbie,

I just watched the video. Obama clearly said Honi as in Choni HaM’agel (http://www.torah.org/learning/yomtov/tubshvat/vol5no16.html)

I am no fan of Obama’s either but your story is wrong.

Mike on March 20, 2013 at 3:55 pm

i don’t believe any thing that comes out of bongo’s mouth because he is an evil bastard.if bongo wants iron dome make him pay big time in both money and no support for the muslim brotherhood or any muslim country.

bruce on March 20, 2013 at 5:20 pm

Hey Debbie

Did it ever cross your mind, that they do know this stuff and are “taking the piss” to coin a phrase!

Gavin on March 20, 2013 at 5:55 pm

Gavin, did you not read DS’ column? She expressly alludes to that. RIF.

What a pity I was not privy to this word before I read the column. I’d have enjoyed it more being in on the joke of what a doofus that POS Prez Obama-Putin is. Then I’d be pissed because just as DS alluded to SOMEONE did this to stick the sword into the Jews. Bastards.

As for Rob The Broken Down Tractor Trailer…I want the seconds back I wasted on reading your silly palaver. You should be no where but in a locked mental asylum *Medication time*.

“…Obama is dissing Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, by skipping speaking there in favor of speaking to hand-picked liberal American college students in Israel.”

Is that not an action of a tin-pot, tyranical Dictator? I am beyond paying attention to Obama-Putin Bot Zombies but really, what does that say about their fraud, Dear Leader?

Rob The Broken Down Tractor Trailer dissed Zionists as certifiable when the real nutters are idiots who still give this Sociopathic *Almost* Dictator and credibility of credence.

They may be dopey enough to believe in him but it leaves me catatonic due to their rock-bottom stupidity.

Skunky on March 20, 2013 at 6:48 pm

Give him a break, Debbie.

He just took a long trip, probably tired with jet lag and exhausted from finishing his Final 4 brackets.

BethesdaDog on March 20, 2013 at 8:24 pm

Debbie who cares. As long as the borrowed American tax dollars are flowing Obama can flunk Talmudic references. Also big ups to his limo driver for stranding him. I’m sure he’d be plenty safe on a mixed population Israeli bus.

A1 on March 21, 2013 at 3:56 am

I wonder if there is a Talmudic figure named Jabroni? Just wondering…

On something (somewhat) off-topic, in the Rolling Stone (a rag that I used to read with great voracity until it started fellating the current POTUS), the once-and-future Floyd Roger Waters is calling for a boycott of Eretz Israel (again?) and created a s***-storm of criticism. I’ve placed my 2 cents there… http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/roger-waters-calls-for-boycott-of-israel-20130320 – you should, too.

The Reverend Jacques on March 21, 2013 at 7:24 am

And as a welcome to the Obamination, rockets were fired at Sderot in the South again this morning. But that’s good actually because Bibi offered to consider a two state solution but this is the behavior the inhabitants of that second state would engage in. Maybe some people will wake up now.

Italkit on March 21, 2013 at 7:39 am

Do you think it’s possible that somebody told Obama about “Ploni the Miracle Worker” on purpose? To pull his leg?

Miranda Rose Smith on March 21, 2013 at 8:39 am

If this wasn’t so insulting and stupid it would be outrageously funny. Thanks once again Debbie for a job well done.

Naomi R on March 21, 2013 at 12:00 pm

What does Mashiakh mean?

cj on March 21, 2013 at 2:18 pm

Just took time to ready up on this term…

cj on March 21, 2013 at 2:28 pm

C’mon Debbie what do you expect from our do nothing know nothing pResident. This sorry excuse of a chief executive is just one bad joke after another. The joke sadly is on Israel. Every word and deed that this skinny waif does in relation to that country is to demean and besmirch. He would never do that in like say Turkey or Egypt. You can just hear him talking to his head speech writing flunky/butt kisser. Yeah make my speech really good because I want to stick it to these Jews and give a signal to my muslim homeboys in Hamas. If Netenyahu and Peres had any brains they’d be thinking with friends like the O’Clown who needs enemas.

Ken b on March 21, 2013 at 7:47 pm

You would think as a visiting dignitary the POTUS would have some member of the diplomatic corps in his administration advise him on proper protocol when invited to a foreign country, whether or not he approves of their political beliefs. He manages to, when in a Muslim country, bend over in a respectful bow.

Rochelle on March 21, 2013 at 9:28 pm

Obama’s handlers and overlords are nothing if they aren’t very clever. He really has to do so very little to please American Jews and can do no wrong in the media. I shudder to think of what’s in store for us in the next four years.

DS_ROCKS! on March 22, 2013 at 12:26 am

BHO probably was referring to Choni the Circle-Maker.

But then again, the word does rhyme with phoney and baloney!
