Your Day in Liberated Democratic Egypt: Egypt Govt Stops Screening of Film on Egypt’s Jews

By Debbie Schlussel

Once a large community numbering tens of thousands, there are now less than 100 Jews still living in Egypt because of the persecution, pogroms, murders, and rapes they suffered at the hands of Egypt’s Muslims AND Coptic Christians. And, now, the post-Mubarak “liberated, democratic” Egyptian government stopped the screening of the documentary, “Jews of Egypt,” probably because the sad history of Jews in Egypt doesn’t speak well of Egypt or its largely Muslim and Copt population. Below is the trailer of the film. The movie was supposed to be shown today, but now it won’t be.

Egyptian authorities have failed to issue a permit to screen a historical documentary about the country’s Jewish community, the film’s producer said on Wednesday, one of a series of disputes over freedom of expression under the Islamist government. . . . Producer Haitham al-Khamissi said Censorship Bureau officials had told him State Security had requested to view his film “The Jews of Egypt” before it could be cleared to be shown in cinemas. . . .

Khamissi said renewing the permit for the film, which was first shown with official permission at a film festival in Egypt in 2012, would normally take a matter of hours, but he said he had been waiting for a week. The film depicts changes in Egyptian society’s acceptance of its ancient Jewish minority in the first half of the 20th century. Most Jews fled the country due to attacks on their community, particularly after the 1956 war, when Israel invaded Egypt along with Britain and France, which were trying to regain control of the Suez Canal.

“The authorities had already approved my film … I’m only asking for a renewal of the permission but until now I haven’t received it,” Khamissi said. “They are worried about us, the people who think … The content is controversial, politically. After the creation of Israel in 1948, the world view of Jews changed,” he said. “There were worries that any Jewish Egyptian could be an Israeli spy.”

Let’s hear it for “liberal,” “democratic” Egypt, where freedom of speech and freedom of expression are rarer than Halal pork chops.

Nobody in government really thought that the “Arab Spring” would result in Western-style democracies. They knew exactly what would happen: the destabilization of the Middle East and more pressure on Israel.

Correct DS Rocks, a certain talk show host referred to the “Arab-Spring” as the “Arab-Winter”, I myself have referred this geo-political policy as the “Islamic-Winter”, in whereas Egypt has somewhat turned into Iran during the 1979 Iranian-Islamic Revolution that set that country hundreds of years backwards, and more likely the samething will occur in Egypt with the majority of the folks in that nation elected an islamists government.

Since the Islamic-Winter in Egypt, there’s been more and more persecutions of not only coptic-christians (I’m well aware of the coptics BS tendencies towards arab-jews in Egypt in past years by siding with the muslims by being dhimmi-chrislamists) and jews, but also atheists, agnostics, secular-humanists, etc. For instance “Aliaa Magda Elmahdy” (she’s an atheists and NOT a muslim) after she posed butt-nude on her blog she’s been under TONS of threats from her fellow country-people in Egypt that she’s now in exile in Swededn.

Also, “Alber Saber” (he’s one of my friends on facebook BTW) was persecuted this past fall after he posted some stuff on his facebook account where he questioned god’s existance and his ultra-conservative muslim neighbors eavesdropped on the poor guy and contacted the police on him which led to tons of protests outside of where he lived, he’s in exile in Europe right now. In other words, Mohammed Morsi needs to be kicked out of government in Egypt, he’s wrecking that once good to decent nation, etc.!

And these are the people we are still shtupping with cash and the most advanced U.S. weaponry, which will be used against Israel.

Never rely on the U.S. as an ally. Just ask Taiwan, South Vietnam, the Czechs (Patton’s superiors blocked him from aiding in their revolt against the Nazis, which led to the country being taken over by the USSR), and now Israel.

These are thugs who are mass murderers and of course visceral anti-Semites.

What do they do to each other in Egypt, they’ll sooner or later do to the Jews.

Its not exactly a revelation to me this film was blocked because anti-Semitism is mainstream in Egypt. Decades of peace with Israel haven’t changed the hatred of the Jews and Israel there.

Any one who naively expected the “Arab Sping” to usher in an era of peace, tolerance, goodwill and brotherhood wound up being disappointed.

I was never under any illusions about how things are going in Egypt and well Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood speak for themselves here.

Just like the truth of Grover Norquist, ‘Jihad’ Darrell Issa and Justin Amash (to name just a few) it’s been disconcerting to learn how little so-called “Conservatives” know of the Coptic Christian complicity and their very own hatred of Jews.

I sure didn’t know before this site, but I know now. There is so much that is unknown that really needs to be known.

Hope ‘Ice Queen’ Dana Perino sees this column. She was one of the fools who said she believed the “Arab Spring” WAS gonna bring in that Western Democracy.

You don’t even have to know all the background but if one has learned the basics from this site, you can see the pure folly in that. And not have to be a cold, Fraud News personality whose looks far exceed her brain power.

Of course this blatant and thoroughly in your face example of Muslim racism and discrimination won’t outrage the libs very much.

Few words of concerned condemnation and mild protest before getting back to important issues like banning plastic cups.

“After the creation of Israel in 1948, the world view of Jews changed”
– There was no state of Israel when the Germans got the ball rolling back in 1939. The problem is not Israel, the problem is that Israel exists.

Why are there still 100 Jews in Egypt? Are they Stan Cohen’s relatives – confident that their self-loathing would keep them safe? Actually, if Cohen and Cohn and other such Jews moved to Egypt, and those people moved out, it’d be hunky dory!

It is odious stuff. The interesting thing is that MUslims are so sensitive about this issue. Their antisemitism is hardly a secret.

One of the Egyptian Jews gave the plans of the Israeli-French-English invasion of Sinai to the Egyptians, and they still did not give her back her citizenship. I don’t feel sorry that person; she is a disgusting excuse of a human being.

Most Arab countries are no more willing to discuss their (mis)treatment of the Jews who once lived among them than Turkey is to discuss its genocide against the Armenians.

But there’s another thing having little to do with Jews that such a movie will expose: how much more moderate, even liberal, Egypt used to be before the turn back to Islamic “tradition”. It wasn’t just Jewish women who went around with uncovered heads; Arab women too. There’s a picture some might have seen of women graduates from an Egyptian college from the 1950s; none of them are covered. Fast forward 50 years or so and a comparable picture shows almost all the women are wearing a hijab.

Apropos, when I lived in Montreal in the 1970s I got to know a family of Jews from Alexandria, Egypt. Shortly after the 1956 war they were expelled with nothing, forced to leave their middle class life behind.
