Best New York Times Obituary. EVER.

By Debbie Schlussel

Even though his family paid for the New York Times to run this obituary (‘cuz the New York HAMAS Times would never run this on its own), you gotta love the death notice for Amos Shuchman, Zichrono LiVrachah [Blessed Be His Memory, the Hebrew phrase we Jews use for fellow Jews instead of “Rest In Peace”]. Shuchman, an American and an Israeli, fought with the Haganah (the forerunner to the IDF) to help establish the State of Israel.

SHUCHMAN–Amos, of New York, on February 1, 2013. Beloved and caring husband of Alice Shuchman for 51 years, father of Daniel (Lori Lesser) and Nina (Brian Roth), grandfather of Jacob, Sarah, Aaron and Ariela. Born in Tel Aviv in 1928, fought bravely in the Haganah. Loved his family, his birth and adopted countries, finance, skiing, opera, ballet and biking in Central Park. Loved everything about NYC, except the New York Times. Services at Beth El Cemetery (Or Zarua section), Paramus, NJ, Sunday at 11am. Memorial contributions to a charity of your choice. His fearless heart still beats within all of us. Shalom, Saba. [DS: Saba is Hebrew for “grandfather”]

[Emphasis added.]

Excellent. The obit ran on February 2nd.

Great stuff!

BTW–to those who lament how the NY Times has “recently” gone wrong….

Check its stories and editorials from the very beginning. The paper was *always* on the wrong side of major issues, and nearly always backed the wrong political candidates.

They still cherish the memory of Walter Duranty. Enough said about the NYT.

Right. And don’t forget the pro-Castro Herbert Matthews, either. As the greatest Jew of all time would have said, “A brood of vipers.”

God rest his soul, plus I didn’t know that this guy fought in the IDF to protect Israel’s freedoms and right to exists against islamic-jihadi-terrorism, etc., in any event as I said, RIP Amos Schuchman!

Further to Castro, and the mainstream media of the time…

“This is not a Communist Revolution in any sense of the term. Fidel Castro is not only not a Communist, he is decidedly anti-Communist.” (Herbert Matthews, New York Times, July 1959)

“It would be a great mistake even to intimate that Castro’s Cuba has any real prospect of becoming a Soviet satellite.” (Walter Lippmann, Washington Post July, 1959)

“That’s a cute Puppy, Fidelito! When will you visit us again? And will that be with the beard or without the beard?” (Edward Murrow, CBS Feb. 1959).

“Castro is honest, and an honest government is something unique in Cuba. Castro is not himself even remotely a Communist.” (Newsweek, April 1959)

“We can thank our lucky stars Castro is no Communist,” (Look Magazine, March 1959)

Epic win! Love it!

This is a man who should have been buried in Israel.

That said, I can find nothing good to say about the “New York Times.”

Amos Schuchman’s obituary notice is still a good joke on them!

May he rest in peace.

Such a well executed twofer. A tribute to a man of unusual character; an equally well deserved–and by the way, QQQQ, New York Times.

Why is everyone so down on the New York Times? Don’t they say: “All the News That’s Fit to Print.” The NYT tells it like it really is without any discernable bias or deviations from proven facts. Furthermore, the reporters for the NYT always do incredible research and the editorial team is scrupulous in ensuring that only accurate and reliable information is reported. This has always been the case, from award-winning journalists like Jason Blair to the eloquent prose of Fareed Zakaria. Why bother to read anything else?

    Ralph–

This is the Internet, and you must indicate sarcasm. Otherwise, many people will get the wrong idea. Most people scan, rather than read carefully. Sign of the times. (pun intended)

    I’m not kidding.

Red Ryder on February 28, 2013 at 4:54 pm

      Yes, you’re probably right, RR.

Hate the paper, but their crossword puzzle was always the best of the best. Eugene T. Maleska, R.I.P.

Amos Shuchman–May his memory be for a blessing.

JeffE on February 28, 2013 at 8:01 pm

One thing I didn’t get – why did the family even bother to try & get the NYHT to print his obituary? Why didn’t they decide to get his obituary out by other media, instead of bribing this douche-paper to print it?

Amos Shuchman – RIP

Infidel on March 1, 2013 at 3:11 am

    @Infidel–

So they could include the anti- NY Times comment, and, to publicize the obit amongst his Jewish friends—most of whom are probably liberal and love the Times.

Red Ryder on March 1, 2013 at 7:51 am

Right on, Red. The NYT has always been worthless. The only good writer on military issues they ever had was Hanson Baldwin.
