I would’ve thought another Elvis & Nixon moment, myself. Wasn’t Jackson’s photo-op with Reagan after the Pepsi shoot where his hair caught fire? A few months after, I seem to recall . . .

It’s too bad great men have to lower themselves to be seen with goofballs like Jackson. After reading The Reagan Diaries, I’ve got a renewed respect and understanding of the wheeling and dealing that goes on. He really did try to reach out. Many times he met with black leaders in attempts to bring them into the party more and show unity. The allure of the democrat party and it’s broken promises were too much of a temptation for most unfortunately.

Nancy also tried in vein to slow the drain of our youth toward drugs. Many nights the president expressed loneliness and yearning for his beloved wife in his diaries and she was off crusading for her causes, trying to help and do the right thing.

They were physician prescribed drugs. The same thing that killed my PHYSICIAN father. When the docs stop whoring themselves out to big Pharma for weekends at The Breakers, we’ll stop seeing such events.

MK: Your anti-physician hatred is interesting. My father was a physician also, and he never got a weekend at the Breakers or anything like that. Nor do most docs. You have noted well before, even though Reagan was the best president in my lifetime, he made plenty of mistakes. This should be noted as one of those times.

Good point ConcernedPatriot–very much the same as Nixon and Elvis–same hypocrisy, masking of a lie. Elvis stood there too, meeting Nixon with dark sunglasses on as I recall, too.

I am curious here, is wearing those in such a case NOT a giveaway that the wearer is phony, or at least hiding something? Do you meet the president with shades on? uhuh, real cool, man.

To ‘BB’: From the pictures I’ve seen, Elvis wasn’t wearing sunglasses – but he did have a drugged-out look on his face.

As for Jackson – I read that in his case, the sunglasses were initially copied from Marvin Gaye, who wore them in one of his public appearances in 1983 – to cover up that he was coked out at the time.

What is striking in this is – how basicaly normal Jackson is. After seeing how he changed over the years, it is easy to forget what he looked like when he was a great star.

And while it is a normal Reagan speach, it sure sounds nice after watching Obama twist and turn words on edge.
