This is a major Shanda. I also heard that last Friday, the Israeli government destroyed several homes in the Shomron, displacing Jewish families, even while Arabs are allowed to build illegally all over Jerusalem. It is a death wish for sure and what Israel really needs is new leadership. People like Moshe Feiglin for example who I am sure would have no problem using those two letters in the alphabet that you mention!

Maybe the Israelis found a way to “doctor” the systems in the future?!… I wouldn’t put it past them… Then, if and when the brown stuff hits the oscillating thingy, and when the Turks try to use the systems to Israel’s detriment, they go “boom” or something like that…

A much better solution then the Turks getting similar equipment somewhere else…

And, even that didn’t happen, the Israelis now know the weak spots in the Turkish systems… That’s almost as good…

Israelis only need to look at how Muslims treat each other in places like Syria if they have any crazy ideas that co-operating with countries like Turkey will win them any friends worth a damn.

Wonder if Peres will go down with the ship or take a quick skip and jump into exile? I have a feeling we’ll be seeing that stupid smile undiminished either way.

Debbie I don’t want to compromise my sources but it’s my understanding that those AWACS are bugged like a Chinese massage parlor. If they hit the on switch the Israelis will know. Also we shouldn’t be too harsh on Mr. Albright. She didn’t even find out she was Jewish until it wouldn’t harm her prospects at State.

Assume for a minute that the assertions by A1 and Hans are correct, and that Israel found some way to ‘doctor’ the items sold to Turkey. Even if this were so, it would not outweigh the miseducation about Turkey that would pervade Israel, the US, and the remaining NATO countries by Israel’s apparent warming towards Turkey.

Giving legitimacy to a country determined to destroy Israel and the Western way of life far outweighs any value that ‘doctoring’ the AWACS equipment would have. Especially when this country, as a member of NATO really needs to be de-legitimized, not legitimized.

But, sad to say, given Israel’s track record of appeasing Obama, I doubt that any ‘doctoring’ took place.

Peres is not a “Jew”; he is an Israeli. I mean, he’s SAID this. This is also true of nearly every political elite in Israel. The so-called religious parties may not be “Israeli,” but they certainly are not religious.

True, Peres is more of an egomaniac than an Israeli, I guess.

Oh well. The halachic Jews of Eretz Israel were commanded to build to build the Temple and slaughter the Amalekites (Muslims). They’ve done neither, though having the means.

I too was shocked to learn of the military hardware being delivered to Turkey, but there’s a bit more to the story. Not that there isn’t still a certain fecklessness on Israel’s part.

The first issue is that this equipment is going in aircraft provided by Boeing, the prime contractor. Israel is a sub-contractor. The equipment for the first two aircraft were delivered and installed before the fallout from the Mavi Marmara blockade running affair. The equipment in question is slated for other aircraft already delivered, but sitting and waiting for the Israeli gear. That was making Boeing antsy, and they put pressure not only on Israel because they were “making Boeing look bad” as a supplier, but on the US to put yet more pressure on Israel. Israel already has extensive relations with Boeing. Not only have they provided Israel’s F-15s, but actively collaborate with Israel on both the Arrow and the David’s Sling anti-missile projects. (Iron Dome is an exclusively Israeli development.)

The US was happy to add yet more pressure on Israel, especially on behalf of Turkey and Obama’s BFF, Erdogan. Turkey is a key NATO member, though no one can explain why today it remains so.

In the end, Israel caved to the pressure, as it does too often. No quid pro quo from Turkey, no nothing. Turkey gets what it wants. The US and Boeing get what they want. And Israel shows it can be rolled.

As to the award from Peres, people of his kind are in the business of giving each other awards with some regularity. Obama gave one to Peres a few months ago. Peres is returning the favor. It’s a kind of mutual suck-up, burnishing each other’s standing with their respective locals. But yeah it’s embarrassing.

Makes sense to me that Turkey is in NATO — things aren’t the same as in 1949. Now we appease our enemies and try to include them in our alliances. Not strange at all, especially when virtually every NATO member has an anti-semitic government.

And of course commercial considerations trump national security. Don’t make Boeing look bad, even if it means our citizens get killed. After all, what’s more important? Look at Bill Clinton’s ole buddies at Loral who gave our secrets to China. Just like 65 years ago.

A competent press campaign could have easily handled Boeing.

And the broader problem is that Israel, as shown through its actions doesn’t yet realize that the US is its enemy, just like so many other countries. Is Boeing the only entity putting pressure on Israel? A month before Obama’s visit? Come on now.

This reminds me a little of our alliance with Uncle Joe during the war. The Government of the US at the time, effectively was supporting the Commies, and catering to their every desire. We lost half the world after the United Nations (sic) was formed.

And now 65 years later, another alliance with those who want to destroy Western values. The Communists didn’t have a hard time prevailing against us — the inadequacies of their system brought them down with help with one of our few anti-Communist presidents. And now the Muslims have infiltrated our organizations just as the Commies did in the past.

And, uh, yeah, Israel shows it can be rolled.

Arming countries like Turkey & Egypt may have made a modicum of sense during the Cold War, when Turkey shared a border w/ the Soviets, and Egypt was threatened by the likes of Gadaffi’s Libya, armed to the teeth by the Soviets.

But today, who are their enemies? Nobody has territorial aspirations on either of these countries. But both are rapidly re-Islamizing, if they haven’t already, and are arming themselves to the teeth. They have only one current target – Israel. Yeah, they’re intervening in Syria, but they’re not in the process of supplying the FSA an air force. So this inane policy of arming these countries ought to have stopped in 1991.

In fact, even during the Cold War, while it was understandable that Israel reached out to anybody who offered a hand of friendship, I recall that some years back, Israel was busy paying premium prices for drinking water, of all things.

As for Peres, he can’t croak soon enough. Don’t they have term limits in Israel?

I’m not really sure that sending parts to Turkey is the more dangerous mistake. We can deal with hardware. We still have the tactical advantage. It’s the perception we are creating with the PMD and calling Obamination’s visit “Unbreakable Alliance” or something like that, that is troubling. It’s much harder to deprogram people’s perceptions as we should have found out in our mishandling of the whole Pali debacle.

As I said on my FB page, “OH HELL, NO!!!!!!!!” but it’s interesting, BooBoo has been unable to form a government and even he is saying he may have to throw in the towel and call new elections so we really don’t have a government right now and there may not be a legitimate PM to meet the Obamination of Desolation next month. It’s also interesting that POTUS is supposed to arrive a few days before Passover.

Turkey has supported Iran for years. Syria’s closest ally is Iran. Turky now wants protection from Iran’s ally. Israel should tell Turkey that it has cooked up its own mess, and it is now time to consume it.

Italkit, their government has changed, and it’s already open season on their non-Muslims. Yeah, you even buy drinking water from them, which is even more inane. But the Turkey of Kemal is long dead.

Yeah, Turkey is friends w/ Iran, but the Syrian Civil War has given them the opening to overtake Iran in the leadership race of the Muslim world, since the overwhelming majority of the world’s Muslims are Sunni, and Iran ain’t. So by allying w/ Saudi Arabia & Qatar in trying to overthrow the Alawite regime, Turkey is very much throwing in its lot w/ the Sunni side in this Jihad. This Syrian civil war is good news for one more reason – it makes it even more difficult for Iran to claim leadership of the Muslim world, when Islamic parties like the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas are actively distancing themselves from Iran due to their desire to cash in on Syrian Sunni support – and Sunni support worldwide. Even Ahmadinejad’s visit some weeks ago to Cairo was not w/o its problems, as both he & his hosts kept bringing up the Shia-Sunni divide.

As for Turkey, this goose has been cooked by Europe. The EU has always assumed that Turks are Europeans, despite there being no evidence to support that. As a result, they kept demanding that the military – the one thing that kept Turkey as a Kemalite quasi-secular country – loosen its grip on power if they wanted Turkey to be granted entry into the EU. Really inane – if the EU wanted Turkey to be a member, the right time to have done that would have been during the Kemalite regime, where they could also have encouraged Turkey to secularize its population, and make it as Atheist as most Europeans today are. Instead, however, they kept isolating Turkey, so that the moment the military loosened its grip, as demanded, the Islamic parties got voted in, and started a re-Islamization process. Now, the Turks, as a people, are less interested in being a part of Europe, which never acknowledged them, and are now interested in being re-integrated w/ the Mid East, where they genuinely belong. And hence, their teaming up w/ Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other such countries.

Which brings me to one more thing. Why is Turkey still a part of NATO? It made sense during the Cold War, when they preferred the US to the Soviets (different Muslim countries made different calls on this one – Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan picking the US side, and Iraq, Syria, Libya picking the Soviets.) But as the Iraq war demonstrated, when Turkey refused to let its airspace be used to support Kurdistan, this relationship no longer exists. Today, there is a de-facto war b/w Islam and the Rest, and does anybody seriously believe that Turkey is not on the side of Islam? Indeed, it’s time for NATO to be disbanded, and all the countries that are opposed by Muslims (the likes of Israel, Serbia, Greece, India, Thailand, Ethiopia, S Sudan, et al) to come together into an alliance, and expand that as more countries discover problems w/ Muslims.

Hopefully, everybody will rapidly come to the same conclusions that people here already know.

There has been an Islamist movement in Turkey continuously. It was laying low during part of the 20th century, just waiting for an opportunity to resurface. I don’t buy that all of this is just because the evil Europeans wouldn’t let them into the EU. The Islamist movement has its own, independent dynamic.

Remember, the process for entering the EU typically takes many years, and Turkey was basically on the same track as a number of other countries — but they didn’t turn around and decide to become primitive fundamentalists.

I agree w/ Al – Islam was never successfully stamped out of Turkey. The juntas may have wanted to do it, but the fear of isolation from the EU held them back. End result was that when they gave the EU what they wanted, Islam won.

But one thing about the EU – yeah, the process takes time, but throughout the process, the EU made it explicitly clear to Turkey that they couldn’t expect to join the EU if they don’t become fully democratic i.e. the military doesn’t relinquish power. Unfortunately, while the military did enforce the cult of Ataturk hoping to replace the cult of Mohammed, that never worked, since the regimes never managed to inculcate the same qualities of the West into the average Turks – things like retrospection, self criticism and so on. Everything was built around Turkish nationalism, in turn built around Kemal, and that alone wasn’t gonna last. Remember, it was as Muslims that the Turks appeared in the world map – before that, Turks, as an ethnic group, populated Central Asia and were part of the Persian and Chinese empires, and it was only after the Arab conquests and their Islamization that they became a distinct population. So Turkish nationalism, like Arab, was always gonna return to Islam.

Since they were under a military regime, it could have completely de-Islamized them if it wanted, but for that, they’d have had to embrace something like Buddhism, Christianity or something else that would retain their ethnic origins. In the Central Asian former Soviet countries – also Turkic countries like Turkey, Islam is making a comeback at various speeds. So it’s arguable whether Islam could have been wiped out or not, since even the Soviets supposedly tried it. Or maybe they were a lot more lenient towards Muslims than towards Russian Orthodox Christians or Jews.

AFAIK there is no such a commandment in the Jewish religion… In fact, considering that Islam only came along in the 7th century it would be quite surprising if there were such an injunction in Judaism (which was well established centuries before Islam came along)…

Unless you provide your source we’ll just have to assume that you’re making things up as you go…

Sometimes, I get the feeling that Israel suffers from “battered wife syndrome”.

The relation with Turkey is complex. The exact nature of the sale and change of policy is not fully explained. The Turks may be Muslims, but they’re still Turks and they don’t like their neighbors treading on them. The spillover from Syria may have caused the Turks to re-think some of their past actions. Just speculating.

Memories are short. As soon as Islamists oust Assad, this sale of weaponry could turn out as counter-productive as stated. If the Syrian civil war protracts for several years, this sale may be of little consequence and merely provide a maintenance patch on an old system.

This might not be as bad as it seems on the surface. However, looking at the forest instead of the trees, it sure seems like Israel suffers from “Battered Wife Syndrome” at times. That’s for darn sure!

We have to ride out his presidency afterall. I say we give him an award every single day. As for helping Turkey, you are right on how stupid some people in Israel are but if there is any consolation what goes around comes around and those responsible for this future fiasco will be crusified. Unfortunately, brainless people are letting it happen for a few bucks. Not all us Israelis go along and support such boneheaded moves but like who are we going to vote for that has any integrity? Maybe Bennett? Who knows?

Why would Boeing pressure Israel unless the deal was sweet from either the Turkish side or the Obama side? Boeing has had a big interest in military government contracts in the past although it lost out to Lockhead Martin I think.

IAI-Elta is not a two bit company. They are a very sophisticated multi-billion dollar company. I am very certain that the components in questions would have electronic trap doors that only Israel would know and able to monitor. I am also fairly certain Elta must have built higly classified and non-detectable kill switches embedded in the components shipped to Turkey.

As for the award for Obama, I wont be surprised if it is a form of Taqiyah being done by Israel to keep Obama in good humor.

Whenever you see a picture of a Jew shaking hands with a Muslim, it is blasphemy. Not according to the Muslims, but according to the Jews. If they ever attend a synagogue, they can read the Siddur, which say “You will love your fellow man, as though you will love yourself.” They will fire back, your fellow man means your fellow Jews. I say the word “Jew” is never mentioned in that verse.

Italkit, the story of the Ottoman Turks saving Sephardic Jews is another long term myth. Most of the Jews who did move to Morocco moved back to Europe, and the bulk of them moved to Holland. Ottoman Turkey’s tolerance was way overrated

Besides, the relationship Israel had was w/ Kemalesque Turkey. Ottoman Turkey was the empire whose head was the Caliph of Islam, and they’d never stand for something like Jews owning Jewish holy places that islam claimed as its own

And, Debbie, let’s not forget Perez’s motivation for all this: The Perez Peace Center is an investment conduit that provides business funding and loans for Israel’s great friends, the Palestinian Arabs in the disputed territories. In other words, Perez has gotten rich by funding “economic development” in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. And remember, money is fungible, so the money the Arabs get from the Perez Peace Center frees up other money for the ongoing war (political and military) being fought against Israel. A kapo, indeed!
