Global Warming Zealots Kill a Small Texas Town

By
Global warming zealotry can kill.
In fact, it’s killing the small town of Colorado City, Texas, where environmentalists put the kabosh on a coal-fired power plant, which would have saved the dying railroad town of 4,100.
TXU Corp. planned to build a coal-fired power plant there and in seven other economically needy towns across Texas. But environmentalists lobbied against the deal because coal-burning to make electricity releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Cows and horses farting does that, too, but they’re not trying to kill them.
Here’s what they did kill:

Al Gore-esque Global Warming Hysterics Kill Colorado City, Texas

COLORADO CITY, Texas – This old railroad town has seen its fortunes rise and fall more than once in the boom-bust cycles of the oil industry and cotton farming. But nobody here ever thought prosperity would ride on the global warming debate.
With efforts to curb “greenhouse gases” that most scientists believe are heating up the planet comes a downside in places like Colorado City (pronounced call-a-RAY-da).
This county seat of 4,100 was primed for an economic windfall from a coal-fired power plant that utility company TXU Corp. planned to build. After two New York investment firms bought TXU, the new owners agreed last month to scrap the proposed 858-megawatt plant here and seven others across Texas.
Environmentalists who brokered that deal were elated because plants that burn coal to make electricity release carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere.
In Colorado City and surrounding Mitchell County, “there were lots of long faces,” Mayor Jim Baum says. “The plant would have been our salvation, even more so than the discovery of oil.”
Up to 3,000 workers would have poured in for three years of construction, spending their pay at local stores. The plant, once operating, would have provided more than 100 high-paying jobs and hundreds more in support businesses. Tax revenue from TXU’s estimated $1 billion investment could have cut local taxes in half, Baum says. . . .
Anticipating a conventional plant, the city had hurried up plans for $8 million in water and sewer improvements to handle housing that developers promised to build for an influx of newcomers. Schools were ready to acquire temporary classrooms for the children of construction workers.
Developers said they would build two motels on Interstate 20 through town. Cecilia Scott, director of Main Street revitalization, says new businesses would have filled most of the empty storefronts.
“So many people I know had made so many plans,” says Pat Taylor, a police officer here since 1982.
Because of the economic benefits, there are few opponents of coal plants here. . . .
The city ran a campaign to get 1,000 signatures on a letter to TXU supporting the plant; 2,600 signed.
Before the utility withdrew the plants, Dallas Mayor Laura Miller lobbied Texas towns to oppose them.
Dallas is under pressure to clean its air or risk losing highway money.

Yes, global warming zealotry kills. It doesn’t kill private planes or spacious mansions for the likes of Al Gore and Brad Pitt.
It kills dreams and a decent life for small town Americans, who don’t have those luxuries and are struggling to survive.

This is despicable. And of course this group would never allow a Nuke plant even though there would be no CO-2 emissions. These Leftists must be stopped from ruining it for everyone. I didn’t pay much attention when they were just ranting and raving, but now they are getting laws passed that will hurt us all. I highly recommend that everyone who wonders about the causes of Global climate change to please watch this video (link below). Plenty of solid information provided by actual climatologists, former activists, and people who are being hurt by the Leftists — shows the horrible impact of these “humans are to blame” policies on developing countries (not to mention our own country).

Global terrorism also kills. Its an issue to be more concerned about than Al Gore’s invented environmental scare. I think a town being melted down by a nuclear explosion is far more terrifying than a temperature drop due to human resources. Fear unto itself is not an issue to be afraid of. Its the zealots who manufacture the fear they want to inculcate into our minds, particulary the global warming pundits of Al Gore.

It didn’t have anything to do w/ the environmentalists……..Origionally TXU planned on building 40-50 plants within a few years, but apparently it wasn’t possible $$$ for them, and I believe they are only planning on building three plants………seems their business model is the main thing holding them back.
I bet they only build one in the next three years before being bought out by some Chinese holding company.

For once we actually need to follow France’s example and start putting up some nuclear power plants. That should make everyone happy, except for some reason, environmentalists are against that, too. I guess they want us to run everything on corn!

Lefty coastal elites hate small towns and the folks who live there.
These are towns with strong Christian values, generally white and Republican towns, patriotic towns which staff the despised armed forces, towns where mothers stay home with the kids and people are pro-life, and where even poor people don’t want government handouts.
The sooner the coastal elites can shut down such towns and relocate inhabitants to the city, where kids can be more easily stripped of traditional values, the better.

Sioux:
I just watched the video on that link you put up. I’m not impressed by much, but that video impressed me. Thanks very much for that. It’s longer than the average video one might watch on the internet, but it was definitely worth the time.

The small town where I live is supposed to get a new energy plant- one that uses coal. Coal plants are much cleaner than they used to be, but environmentalists don’t care. They’re trying to stop the project before it starts.

What a sad state if affairs. Someone tell me how these flakes got all their power? And if they have this much power, maybe we should burn them to create power???

I would like to see RICO statues applied against these enviroterrorists – the same way the left tried to apply them against their pro-life enemies. Also, a nice recall vote for the Dalls mayor would be an added benefit. Hoping the average American will get fed up with this crap before the country is lost. It does not bode well for America when you realize the courts, schools, and media, are already stacked against us. The 1950’s stalinists predicted this was how America would fall. Were they right?

Regarding the Global Climate change video, I just found out that the MIT professor is now all upset that he was in this film – The only one to complain so far saying that he was taken out of context. Now I have to go back and watch the video again to see what this guy said. The report was in the Guardian, a hard-core Leftist newspaper in Great Britain, so I am suspicious whether they got it right either. Then we have the climatologists who wanted to have their names removed from the UN study because they totally disagree with it – one man even had to sue. Otherwise, your name is left on as a contributor even if you disagree. Total misrepresentation.

I live in Sweetwater, 30 miles east of Colorado City. The decision to nix the coal plants was not as much about the environment as it appears. Our governor, Rick Perry does not care about the people of Texas, only about the business interest who give him money. First he deregulated electricity against the wishes of Texans, now we have the highest rates in the nation. Then he decided the best way to maintain our highways is to sell most of our existing highways to foreign companies and allow them to make toll roads from them, he is still working on that one. Then he mandates the HPV vaccine for all girls, regardless of what the people wish. Interestingly, Merck (who makes the vaccine) was a major campaign contributer to Perry. Then, he comes along and says we are going to build 13 coal plants and he is going to “fast track ” them. That means these plants are exempted from most kinds of oversight and examination. Most of the electricity in West Texas is generated from natural gas, of which Texas has plenty. I didn’t want the plants because of his heavy handedness, and his thinking he knows what is best for everyone. I’m glad the environmentalist were able to stop this, and I am not a supporter of them. But if they had simply said ” Stop this because Rick Perry is a crook!” the process would still be on the fast track

It doesn’t matter to the so the called enviromentalists who gets hurt. All they care about is their agenda regardless of whether or not humans die.
The best example of that I can think of right now is the logging industry. The enviromentalists want to put 10,000 people out of work to save an ignorant critter and then act suprised that hundreds of men become alcholics and beat their wives. Where is NOW when it comes to women being beaten? I know that probably sounds cynical but it is a fact that when men lose their jobs women get hurt. I know that sucks but there is no way anyone can deny it. I think women are far more important than the enviroment. In fact my wife is MY environment.

I guess the greens feel they have to destroy Colorado City in order to save it.

China soon to be larger polluter than the U.S. I wonder when Mr. Gore is going to speak out about that? Let’s see him sell carbon offsets to the Chinese.
