Cancer & John Edwards
By
If your spouse is seriously sick from cancer–and it sounds like John Edwards’ wife truly is–you do the right thing, drop out of the Presidential race (or at least suspend your campaign), and be with her to fight the fight.
But, if your spouse is fighting the fight of her life against a returning cancer, and you stay in the race–as Edwards announced today he is doing–then, it looks like nothing more then brazen politics with no heart. Unfortunately, many Americans–gullible as they are–might see otherwise and have their heartstrings pulled by this man who claims he’s staying in the race for his wife.
I feel sorry for John Edwards’ wife. I wish her well. But his staying in the race and using it as a campaign tactic is reprehensible. And, sad as it is, this manipulation is nothing new to John Edwards. (in which I was quoted) back in October of last year.
As :
Breast cancer is a devastating, frequently fatal disease–which also strikes men. But, the fact is that John Edwards’ multi-millions in lawsuit verdicts contributed greatly to the cost of health care for the rest of us in America. The average woman doesn’t have the gazillions Mrs. Edwards does to get every treatment (several NOT covered by HMOs) available that the rest of us can’t afford. Her husbands’ lawsuits didn’t make those treatments more possible for the rest of us. Nope, those lawsuits made effective treatment more expensive and less available.
Don’t be fooled by this smokescreen book and John Edwards’ pronouncements on Oprah about his and his wife’s fight against breast cancer. When it comes to your fight, he made America’s women more vulnerable.
And so do the thousands of other medical malpractice plaintiffs’ lawyers like him around America who voted for him and gave generously to his and Kerry’s campaigns.
Adn that’s the bottom line. Watch for more John Edwards Oprah appearances in the future.
The man–any real man–should have gotten out of the race to be with his wife.
