Must Read U.S. Soldier’s Letter Starkly Details Nazi’s Actions Toward Jews, Others

You and I have non-stop free entry to the world’s most interesting, constantly changing museum: Ebay. That’s how I use the site, as I enjoy looking through the old memorabilia of the past, which mark history in a way you don’t always see it in brick and mortar museums. And I recently saw this letter, listed by a seller who often sells the old letters of U.S. soldiers who served in the Civil War, World Wars I & II, Korea, and Vietnam. The letter, by U.S. Army Sgt. Charles Duvall to his wife back home, is chilling in its details of what he saw when they liberated a Nazi concentration camp, the inmates of which were Jews.

An original World War Two letter including the envelope written by Sergeant Charles Duvall. The letter is dated May 6, 1945 Europe and relates to the Holocaust. In the letter he mentions a concentration camp which had mostly Jews. I currently have other letters written by this individual listed. The letter reads [DS: the spelling and grammar mistakes are those of the writer and are presented as is]:

My Darling

Hi Darling, golly it has been too or three days since I have written……………….Darling have seen so much suffering the past couple of days. It is sights that shall always stay with me it is the most pittyful sight anyone could ever see. we came into a town that had a concentration camp most of them were Jews. They came swarming out of that camp as soon as the American army took it over, they swarmed past our house all night, they raded everything we had looking for something to eat. They were all skin and bones just a mass of bones with a piece of yellow skin stretched over them. Their eyes all sunk back into their heads sores all over them all diseased up dirty and unshaven lice on them. They would mob the American soldiers asking for something to eat. We gave them all we had but there was thousands of them. They wanted cigarettes. They would leave the camp not knowing where they were going some of them were not able to start lots of them were so weak their buddies would help them and after a while one of them would pass out, there he would be left to die. In the camp there was starving babies feeding from their Mothers breast the mother would be lying on the ground dying. They were so hungry they would dig the potatoes that had been planted out of the ground with their bare hands. We would throw some of them a can of C ration one would get it and they would all start fighting for it just like a bunch of beasts. Many of them had blood streaks on them where they had been beaten. It was a sorry mess I had read and heard so much about what the Germans have done had thought it was propaganda but now I know it is true, I guess you have to really see that to believe it. Thank God for a place like America. Golly Darling need a shave bad have not had one for a week no bath for more than too weeks dirty clothes it will be swell if we ever stop and get a chance to clean up and rest a couple of days……………..Chas

I wish the letter gave some hint as to which camp this was. But it makes no difference, as this was the way it was at almost all of them.

As I write this, there are nearly four hours to go on the auction of this letter, and it has already been bid up to $127.50. It’s an important piece of history, an important piece of documentary evidence.

I’m sure the Holocaust-deniers will claim the letter–and hundreds of thousands of others like it, many of which are lost to history and long ago sent to trash bins–are fakes or forgeries, their usual dismissal of the evidence. But we know they are not. We know this is real.

I wonder, if 70 years from now, we will come upon letters from soldiers who saw the atrocities of our current, more resistant strain of Nazis: Muslims who are fomenting conflict and perpetrating terrorism around the world.

Sadly, one of the casualties of our internet/e-mail/Facebook/Twitter world is that few letters are written to save for posterity, meaning there will be less and less documentation of the atrocities the followers of Mohammed commit in the interminable World War IV (as many consider the Cold War to be World War III).

Educating people about these things is an up hill battle. A guy I know who is a history major claimed the V hand sign a wounded girl in Gaza was making was a “peace sign”. Uh, no, that V stands for victory, and victory for her means dead Jews, Americans and Europeans.

Skunky, it is an unfortunate fact that many young people and adults have no knowledge orinterest in history. They are crammed full of opinions, but are too lazy to check into matters themselves. If you try to provide any contrary evidence to one of their unexamined assumptions they will exhibit boredom, irritation, or even both simultaneously. Holocaust deniers and others feed upon such empty minds. Our schools and institutions seem better at imparting undigested opinions and a positive dislike for individual inquiry than anything else. I fear that we will be faced with an ever increasing population of people who will in fact know, apart from some technical knowledge, less than people fifty years before knew as a matter of course. Such people cling to platitudes regarding the rich, Jews, and other subjects that they themselves have never bothered looking into. The reaction you will typically get from such people if you challenge them at all is either indifference or actual belligerence.

SGT Duvall was in 1st Bn, 66th Infantry which was assigned to the 71st Infantry Division. The camp they liberated was a sub-camp of Mauthausen-Gusen in Gunskirchen Austria. Here is the Wikipedia site:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunskirchen

This letter just lets me know that I’m glad that America fought the good fight during WWII. The Nazi especially Hitler and his inner circle were an evil and despicable lot. But I know that those creeps are having fun burning in their little place in hell. It’s also troubling that we still have your variety of fruitcakes out there who deny that the Holocaust even happened despite the fact that letters like Sgt Duvall’s show up. I lump those wastes of humanity along with the scumbag muslims who celebrated when 9-11 happened and who have been enemies of the US, Israel and other nations. We who love freedom must never allow the dirtbags to ever rise up again. If only to prevent a similar letter from being brought up on Ebay in the future.

Political correctness, which is the cancer of the truth, spread by liberal fascists in media, both news and entertainment and the education system, seeks to hide the truth at all cost. Blogs like DS are attempting to document the truth and preserve history but I fear our First Amendment civil rights will be undermined and denied and the truth will be lost. Debbie, while Muslims aren’t getting as many Jews today to persecute (outside Europe), there are enough atrocities to go around – from Indonesia to Mali. Of course, few know the enemy, as Sun Tzu would require.

I would say that the Jihad b/w Muslims and non-Muslims really dates back to the 7th century w/ Mo, and started w/ Jews & Christians in Arabia, then spread to Christians in the Byzantine empire, Zoroastrians in Persia, Buddhists in Central Asia and Hindus in India and later East Indies. It should more accurately be called World War 0, since it started then, but continues to this day, since at those times, Infidels did not have the wherewithal to destroy Islam, and today, when they do, they just don’t seem to have forgotten that there’s anything wrong w/ Muslims in the first place.

A major reason for that also was that unlike for Islam, nobody regarded Nazism as a religion. But as has been pointed out in the past (there was a FaithFreedom.org essay regarding this, but that seems to be lost in one of their transitions), there is little difference b/w Islam & Nazism. Yet, when that religion is put on the same pedestal as Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, the battle is already half lost. As far as the US goes, the constitutional protections that religions enjoy under the First Amendment – Islam would have to be excluded from that for this war to make any headway (from an Infidel POV).

Memorabilia such as the above one are unlikely to be there for the reasons you describe. Also, unlike these physical memorabilia, the electronic ones are easy to copy w/o depriving any original owner of his, so making exclusive sales of such products, which is the only way it would be worth what physical media are, would be difficult, if not impossible.

In the context of what I wrote above, someone named ‘robscottw’ in 2007 posted an interesting proposal – ‘A Proposed Constitutional Amendment: Background and justification to Amendment 28. Here is the proposed Amendment:

Whereas Religion is defined as an institution dedicated to improving social conscience and promoting individual and societal spiritual growth in a way that is harmless to others not participating in or practicing the same;

Whereas the United States of America was founded on the ideals of individual rights, including the individual right to practice one’s religion of choice, or no religion, and that there would be no compulsion of religion, nor state sanctioned religion, nor a “religious test” for participation in the body politic;

Whereas Islam includes a complete political and social structure, encompassed by its religious law, Sharia, that supersedes any civil law and that Islam mandates that no secular or democratic institutions are to be superior to Islamic law;

Whereas Islam preaches that it and it alone is the true religion and that Islam will dominate the world and supplant all other religions and democratic institutions;

Whereas Saudi Arabia, the spiritual home of Islam does not permit the practice of any other religion on its soil and even “moderate” Muslims states such as Turkey and Malaysia actively suppress other religions;

Whereas Islam includes as its basic tenet the spread of the faith by any and all means necessary, including violent conquest of non-believers, and demands of its followers that [wherever possible] they implement violent jihad (holy war) against those unwilling to convert or submit to Islam, including by deception and subversion of existing institutions;

Whereas on 9/11/2001 19 Muslim hijackers acting in the name of Islam killed 3,000 Americans, and numerous other acts of terrorism have been directed at the American people around the world;

Whereas representatives of Islam around the world including Osama Bin Laden (architect of 9/11), the government of Iran including Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, HAMAS, Hezbollah, and other Islamic groups have declared jihad (war) on America, and regularly declare that America should cease to exist;

Whereas there is no organized Islamic opposition to violent proponents of Islam;

Therefore: Islam is not a religion, but a political ideology more akin to Fascism and totally in opposition to the ideals of freedom as described in the United States Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights.

Be it resolved that the following Amendment to the Constitution be adopted:

Article I

The social/political/ideological system known around the world as Islam is not recognized in the United States as a religion.

The practice of Islam is therefore not protected under the 1st Amendment as to freedom of religion and speech.

Article II

As representatives of Islam around the world have declared war, and committed acts of war, against the United States and its democratic allies around the world, Islam is hereby declared an enemy of the United States and its practice within the United States is now prohibited.

Article III

Immediately upon passage of this Amendment all mosques, schools and Muslim places of worship and religious training are to be closed, converted to other uses, or destroyed. Proceeds from sales of such properties may be distributed to congregations of said places but full disclosure of all proceeds shall be made to an appropriate agency as determined by Congress. No compensation is to be offered by Federal or State agencies for losses on such properties however Federal funding is to be available for the demolishing of said structures if other disposition cannot be made.

The preaching of Islam in mosques, schools, and other venues is prohibited. The subject of Islam may be taught in a post high school academic environment provided that instruction to include discussion of Islam’s history of violence, conquest, and its ongoing war on democratic and other non-Islamic values.

The preaching or advocating of Islamic ideals of world domination, destruction of America and democratic institutions, jihad against Judaism, Christianity and other religions, and advocating the implementation of Sharia law shall in all cases be punishable by fines, imprisonment, deportation, and death as prescribed by Congress.

Violent expressions of these and other Muslim goals, or the material support of those both in the United States and around the world who seek to advance these Islamic goals shall be punishable by death.

Muslims will be denied the opportunity to immigrate to the United States.

Article IV

Nothing in this amendment shall be construed as authorizing the discrimination against, of violence upon, nor repudiation of the individual rights of those Americans professing to be Muslim. The individual right of conscience is sacrosanct and the practice of Islam within the privacy of home and self is strictly protected to the extent that such individuals do not violate the prohibitions described in Article III.

As a child I remember seeing newsreels of some of these camps after they were liberated. In fact, an US Army officer (Col. I think) had all the Nazi officers lined up and slapped their commanding officer across his face. Imagine if the happened today!

This reminds me of what my father, a South Pacific WWII vet, told me when I was young. He also said that many people believed then that the stories of Nazi atrocities against the Jews were propaganda. Of course, there was a very large dose of anti Semitism back then among the US populace. Apparently, such is also true today, based on numerous posts I read all over the Internet. People deny because they don’t want to feel the anguish, but if they don’t feel the anguish, they are doomed to repetition. Thanks for posting, Debbie.

Dear Mom, I killed a shitload of nazis today. Wow, was that ever fun. I cut their ears off and made some necklaces. I will send you one when they top stinking. There are plenty more where today’s bullet catchers came from. They are trying to surrender, but you know me. No prisoners. I only have enough food for myself and the few remaining starving Jews. About three decades ago, I happened to inquire of a non-Jewish friend, who was the chair of a public high school history dept., what his dept. did as far as teaching/talking about the Holocaust. His question for me was, what’s a Holocaust? He stated he was never taught about it in his high school, nor in his “very costly and prestigious university”. Worse, this school’s world history book, for its grade 9-12 students, devoted exactly one paragraph about the atrocities of WWII, but never made reference to the word “Holocaust.” As a result, I helped him put together a series of lesson plans on the Holocaust, which he insisted that I observe, as he taught those related lessons. Unfortunately, he, and his dept. did a lousy job in their collective presentations, and he remained as that dept’s. chair for another 15 years. Sad, but true.

I recall hearing a story from the end of the war. The man was telling about liberating one of the concentration camps. When they let the dogs loose to get the Jews back from the gate, having been deprived of any sustenance for so long, the prisoners grabbed the dogs and literally tore them limb from limb and ate them raw, on the spot. Before the muslims got out of control and outdid the Nazis, as far as evil, the Nazis had to have been about as evil a group of people that ever lived.

and this seller has so many other letters from WWII starting at $0.01 w/o much interest….also, civil war letters also starting at $0.01???
these letters belong in a historic venue, like the library of congress, holocaust museum, etc…available for everyone to read…after whatever sob who bought it gets it, it is gone forever…unless he tweets it….sad state of affairs in this world today…as in 1945…

The younger faction of Likud made huge gains. Bibi is bumped down below 20th on the list. Hopefully, he will be humiliated enough to take a hiatus. Feiglin made a good show and I think Danny Danon will be List head. Several other lesser known more right leaning members are in the top 20.

When we lived in the Tampa Bay area, my husband was substitute teaching. He wore his kippah. There are a lot of Jews, but very assimilated, there. He was asked on occasion to present a lesson on the Holocaust to other students by various history teachers for classes he was not subbing in. It was a great opportunity. BTW, the Holocaust Museum in St. Pete covers “all genocides” not just Ours.

In the most recent issue of World War II magazine is a review of a non-fiction work by Alex Kershaw called “The Liberator,” following the European campaign of the U.S. 7th Army’s 45th Division, and in particular the commander of its 3rd battalion, Col. Felix Sparks. On April 29, 1945, having previously lost more than half the battalion to SS forces in the Vosges mountains, Sparks and his men arrived at Dachau. Outside the camp they found boxcars filled with human corpses. By the time the troops got inside the camp they were so filled with hate and disgust they began killing SS soldiers indiscriminately. Only Col. Sparks drawing and firing his sidearm as a threat against his own troops stopped the killing. General Patton quashed any investigations into the incident. The contrast between an American officer challenging his own men to stop the summary execution of murderers and the German’s industrial slaughter of innocents is staggering. Anyone who is a denier, an apologist, a rationalizer as to the Holocaust is evil.

The atrocities of World War II has taught us all many lessons and anyone that can actually deny the facts that over 63 million people died (almost 34 million civilians of which close to 6 million were Jewish) is in complete denial!! However, I find it quite disgusting to compare Muslims to the Nazis!! If anything the Muslims (especially those living in the west) today are actually leading lives that are more parallel to those of the Jews in Europe prior to WW2. Muslims in the west are often criticized for failing to assimilate and change their appearance to become more western! Racial profiling cost us 63 million lives and the biggest lesson to be learned is that we should stop looking at people based on race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation. We are all humans and there are bad seeds amongst us all! Anyone that wants to rid the world of any other innocent human being is no different than the Nazis. It’s sad that even in the past 80 years we’ve seen Racially charged Genocides whether it be in South Africa (against blacks), Iraq (against the Kurds and the Shiites), Serbia (against the Albanians), etc….. The Nazis attack did not discriminate between any non-Arian ethnic minority, whether you were a Jew, a gypsy, Muslim or black, you were “racially impure”.

It’s one thing to draw comparisons between the regimes run by mass murderers like Saddam Hussein or Slobodan Milosevic to the Nazis, but I don’t see how anyone can compare any religion to a regime based on pure racism. There’s no denying that Islamic extremism is a huge problem and that we need to do everything possible to stop it along with any other form of extremism aimed at harming the lives of the innocent!
