Remember What Else Happened 40 Years Ago?

By Debbie Schlussel
I already wrote my tribute to the 40th anniversary of the first manned landing on the moon–America’s manned landing–last week: “America Failed to Advance in Space in 40 Years Since Apollo 11: Real Science & Imagination Replaced by Junk,” which I posted on Thursday, the anniversary of the launch.
But let’s not forget what else happened 40 years ago over the weekend. Today’s Detroit Newsistan features a reprinted front page from the paper that appeared on July 21, 1969. It harkens back to a day when that paper actually reported stories, instead of being a birdcage liner held captive by fabricators and Islamo-panderers (but I repeat myself).
And at the bottom of the page is a story of a murderer–perhaps a murderer of two, since as the late Leo Damore reported in “Senatorial Privilege: The Chappaquiddick Cover-Up,” Mary Jo Kopechne was pregnant, perhaps with Ted Kennedy’s unborn child. Today, we celebrate that murderer and are told to feel sorry for him because he has cancer, even though his victim(s) never lived to see life beyond the torturous death in water. Yes, today’s Republicans, like Marc Sanford and Jon Ensign are lowlifes and narcissists who should resign. But at least they never murdered anyone. . . and got away with it.

Yes, Edward just published a memoirs-type book, and I searched from cover to cover…
No mention of Mary Jo there either!

I love you Debbie, I agree with you when you point out all the media people who steal your ideas, posts and points, sometimes word for word. I do however, think you are somewhat sensitive on the issue. You accused Rush once, and he made mention of it. My point is this, It is true that Ted Kennedy is scum and I am happy you noted it, however, Mark Levin’s monologue on Friday last, was of this very note, One could either assume that great minds sometimes think alike or one could conclude that you listened to his show and now you’re stealing good ideas and points. Just saying.

I had this comment on my own blog today, Debbie- GMTA …
doing some research on the “Chappequidick” incident, I found reference at Media Research Center, to a Boston Globe article (another liberal brid cage liner owned by the NYT) extolling Ted Kennedy in terms of MaryJo’s death versus the “care she would have because of Kennedy’s health measures…(parenthetically if she had lived). Get out the emesis basins – it’s barfing time..
July 18th 1969, marks the 40th anniversary of the death of a woman named Mary Jo Kopchene- it hasnít really been noted at all in the liberal press, unlike the 10th anniversary of the death of JFK Jr. Letís compare and contrast, shall we? HmmmÖ liberal, lazy, spoiled rich kid, whose one patriotic act that I know of was saluting his fatherís casket when he was 3 years old who foolishly took his wife on a flight that he wasnít probably at all qualified ot make based on weather conditions or his IFR rating, versus a young woman left to drown by said rich kidís uncle in his Oldsmobile that he drove off a bridge, while he was drunk-
You tell me which seems to be more worthy of mourning in the MSM?
Thanks to MRC for this note of how the liberal press, in this case the Boston Globe, slightly less ugly twin sister to the NYT, portrayed the Ted Kennedy ìcan do no wrongî crap back in 2004.
ìIf she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age,î wrote the Globeís Charles Pierce. î
Sounds like a liberal.. “we probably will kill you but if you survive you will be happy that we did it to you”.. ugh..

Teddy Kennedy was a lowgrade then, and is a lowgrade now. He is a classic example of someone with an inherited status that was entirely unearned. However, in 1980 Teddy was unable even to jump over a discredited President Carter in his ultimately futile bid for the Presidency. After his failed presidential run, Teddy was no longer able to convince anyone outside of Massachusetts that he was a rising star in the Democratic Party, and settled down to ever greater passivity

Nice reminder Debbie–We don’t seem to hear about this anniversary anywhere in the lib MSM do we? I was 8-9 years old when this all happened–I recall the moon landing and all–were you even born yet, girl? So this was one year earlier, nearly the same date. I never caught that.
As for Kennedy–Chappaquiddick is exhibit A of the Kennedy clan’s ability to white wash their sins. If it weren’t for this having happened, after Bobby had been killed too, we’d have no doubt had another President Kennedy–ugh! Imagine! He might have out-Clintoned, Clinton!
“objectivist” Mark Scott of old talk radio in Detroit, WXYT, used to say, “……that Senator whose name is SYNONYMOUS with Chappaquiddick, Ted Kennedy.” How fitting, as this still is his greatest legacy. I also love Rush’s parody of Teddy, “The Philanderer.” Captures the Cape Cod Orca quite perfectly, I’d say.

Forgive, 1969 was the SAME year as Apollo 11, a little slow today–sorry I missed that point on my first read.

I met a Massachusetts State Trooper who was called to the scene of the accident and then summarily dismissed when he began, with another officer, to actually investigate the incident. The news suppression was a top-down event. No surprise there.
