Obama’s Snore-Inducing Bore

I don’t know about you, but I was bored to death by Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at last night’s Democratic National Convention. He was awful. He needed to hit a homerun, and he bunted without taking even a single base. It was the same old liberal-left empty sloganeering and synthetic jingoism. It sounded desperate. And he sounded almost robotic belting it out with ill-timed loud intonations–not as bad as the crazed ill-timed shrill shouting of ex-Michigan Governor and former “The Dating Game” contestant Jennifer Granholm (more about that later). But bad enough. You cannot win the White House by pretending you are auditioning for a show on Current TV, Channel 582 (or whatever the number is). Nobody watches that except the extreme Occupy Wall Street losers and their rich one percenter Hollywood left patrons, and that ain’t enough to win an election.

It says a lot when Joe Biden’s speech is better than Obama’s . . . (or anyone else’s, for that matter). If attacking the “cold war mentality” but then relying on the Bin Laden kill to revive your Presidency is the best you can do, you’ve already lost. To repeat the 1992 James Carville, it’s the economy, stupid. If you aren’t running on that, you’re not running at all.

I had to laugh when Obama attacked Mitt Romney for “offending” Great Britain over the Olympics. Um, that’s nothing, compared to dispatching the bust of Winston Churchill from the White House back to the Brits. Now, that’s an insult. And it’s just intellectually dishonest for Obama to pretend that he’s the better man in this category, when he clearly ain’t.

Then, there was his claim that he refuses to raise taxes on the middle class, which is laughable, since we know that he got the Supreme idiots to affirm his ObamaCare horror by insisting it was a tax . . . on the middle class and the working class and the poor.

Obama’s “my opponents are new to foreign policy” line rings hollow, especially when you consider that he had little experience himself and that his long life of foreign policy sympathies were sculpted by Rashid Khalidi and Edward Said, as well as William Ayers. When I tweeted about this during the speech, I was attacked on Twitter by Arabs and Muslims who put in Obama their hopes of transforming America into the Third World from whence they came. (One of those who attacked me last night on Twitter, Shi’ite Muslim Tarek Baydoun, was just a few years ago a fundraiser for Hezbollah via Al-Barakat Charitable Foundation, where he worked when it was raided by the FBI. An open supporter of Hezbollah and participant in forums advocating the boycott of Israel, he blamed America for 9/11. He has zero experience in polling. And, yet, he is now the “impartial” political analyst and pollster for FOX News’ owned and operated “FOX 2 News” in Detroit, all while he is attacking conservatives and those who dare speak out against Obama.)

After years of attacking the coal industry, now Obama suddenly is for coal, but only “clean coal.” And we know what that means: no coal. “Clean coal” means we’re stuck on Muslim and other Third World oil. “Clean coal” means coal miners out of work.

His brag about how cars and trucks will go twice as far on a gallon of gas is little comfort when gas costs more than twice as much per gallon. And when we know that making cars go farther on the same gallon means they have to be lighter and far more unsafe, resulting in more dead Americans killed in car accidents as their lighter cars and trucks disintegrate along with their limbs, upon impact.

And, finally, Obama and his team made a huge blunder. They forgot to coordinate with their buddies at MTV and Viacom. You see, all throughout his and Biden’s speeches, the top Twitter trending terms were names of rappers, like Wiz Khalifa, and the cast of the “Twilight” movies. That’s because the MTV Video Music Awards were going on and dominating social media. And the MTV crowd is the key Obama demographic, as important as women and Hispanics to a Dem win. But that crowd was otherwise occupied with the Jersey Shore/Teen Mom Network event of the year. A pity.

With plunging popularity, rising gas prices, and this disappointment of a speech, Barack Obama has one hope left, the upcoming debates. He’s good at that. Romney not as much. So, we’ll see. But I wouldn’t bet on Obama re-election, as I’d heretofore predicted.

The retread of his Great Society/New Deal liberalism regurgitation four years later is flat and malodorous. And it won’t win him re-election.

It seemed to me Obama was trying to hide that New Deal/Great Society liberal baggage from the country. I don’t know if Debbie saw what I saw but I had the distinct impression of watching a man trying to channel FDR and Reagan.

Maybe that’s good enough to fool the country in front of an adoring partisan crowd. But he could be still tripped up in the debates where he will have to defend his record.

And I agree with Debbie it all comes down to one issue: the economy. The last President to win re-election with 8% unemployment was… FDR in 1936 but we didn’t have a disastrous debt overhang back then.

He had to convince the country in his acceptance speech that he had a handle on things but I don’t think he really answered the question of how to fix the economy.

Seriously, if you had to choose between a community organizer and someone who ran Bain Capital and the 2002 Winter Olympics, for most voters, there isn’t any real question of who is more qualified to manage an economic turnaround.

I detest Mitt Happens’ politics but you can say that he’s more suited as a business man than as a politician and he won’t be hired because he’s a visionary but simply because he would get the job done. And even as Obama admitted last night, we are more a nation of doers than thinkers.

Four years ago, Obama was like breath of fresh air to many Americans. Last night he seemed to many of them to be yesterday’s news. And depending on the outcome of the debates, the election might not turn out to be a close race in the end at all.

Obama is no American Cicero. He like’s the character in the Andy Griffith movie Debbie talked about in relation to Sarah Palin. He certainly is a very eloquent speaker but he’s essentially an empty suit.

He is just a “face in the crowd.” We’ll see that borne out come the fall.

It still amazes me that we voted for that man. Barack Obama was the beneficiary of a financial meltdown and a general revulsion towards an interventionist and activist Bush Administration. Instead of the calm ad recovery promised, Barack Obama’s actions at home and abroad have disturbed our relationships with close allies, such as Great Britain and Japan. Israel, as never before, now has real doubts about our intervening on her behalf even if she found herself faced with annihilation. President Carter at his worst never left Israel with that impression. As for our economy, Mr. Obama has had over three and a half years to turn things around. Instead, he constantly threatens our private sector with more regulation and higher taxes, which fall most heavily upon small and medium sized businesses that do not have the means to send lobbyists to Washington D.C. or make huge campaign donations to the Democratic Party. Solyndra and Fisker Automotive(unproven or failed) will receive tax exemptions, government grants, and subsidized loans from the hands of Congress and the President, while oil exploration and other proven drivers of economic growth are hindered and discouraged, in every conceivable way. We cannot blame Japan, Korea, or China for this, but only ourselves. Barack Obama has mortgaged our future in order to service Democratic Party constituencies, whether Hispanics on illegal immigration or crony capitalists whose businesses could not survive outside of a government greenhouse. I could bring up the Affordable Care Act and so much more as well. Barack Obama’s vision is actually quite reactionary. He is going back to some of the worst policies of the New Deal Era, such as the NRA(National Recovery Administration) and WPA(Works Progress Administration). The NRA was the first American effort at centralized planning of the private sector outside of wartime. Of course the WPA was a failed and expensive experiment in having the government act as an employer of last resort. Neither of these programs were successful in lifting the Great Depression, but are deemed as a glorious legacy by Barack Obama. Mr. Obama’s other model of course would be the European Social Market or Social Democratic Alternative. In this system, capitalism is not eliminated, but heavily regulated and controlled by the central government. Unions receive mandatory representation on corporate boards, even if the union membership has little or no ownership stake in the company. This is known as co-determination. Unions effectively second guess company management on everything from investment decisions to hiring and firing decisions. As a company shareholder, you cannot rely upon management fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities due to this. Of course, there are a whole menagerie of government programs financed by income and payroll taxes that take care of everything from child care to death benefits. As you can guess, taxes in such European countries is quite high. An average person working(not a wealthy person by our standards)can see half their paycheck vanish after income, payroll and value added taxes(goods and services)are wrenched out of it. This leads to a situation where the public is just as dependent upon the government as it is on the public. The problem with this expensive dream is that it has led to very slow economic/productivity growth, very minimal job creation, and demographic decline. This model was championed in the United States by the likes of the late John Kenneth Galbraith and later by Robert Reich as a universal panacea. In fact, Barack Obama is the ultimate reactionary in supporting such government interventions. They have proven themselves to either lead to collapse in third world countries, or at best near stagnation in the developed world. Mr. Obama is a backward looking gravedigger.

The European Social Democratic Third Way or Christian Democratic “social market” model won’t work here. We just not culturally or politically predisposed to accept regimentation like Europeans are. We have never looked to the state for all the answers. And the New Deal tried to have government solve problems in a few limited areas, creating better public infrastructure and ensuring for people in their old age. For the most part, that worked – because we do think that government should have a role in securing the prosperity of a free country and in looking after the most vulnerable. But Americans don’t agree that means the government should run everything. The Obama approach has piled massive debt upon America without reviving our economy and making us respected in the world. I don’t think the American people want us to preside as our President evidently does, over our continued decline. Maybe small nations can accept it with a measure of grace but not America. And maybe I’m reading it all wrong (we’ll find out for sure in November) but I don’t think that is what Americans want for the future of this great country.

We were actually laggards in terms of how long The Great Depression afflicted us:

“By mid-1938 after five years of the New Deal only three nations—Netherlands, Norway and Denmark—had worse unemployment than the US. The level of industrial production of the USA in 1938 had reached only 65% the level of 1929. That year, 1938, was the year a second deep depression wave hit, following the end of the huge fiscal spending recovery aiding Roosevelt’s 1936 re -election, dubbed by economists of the time the Roosevelt Depression.”

This part is especially telling:

“France, the only other country which followed policies similar to the New Deal, was the only other country with equally low industrial growth in the period. The League report noted, ‘Both the Roosevelt administration and the Blum government in France adopted far-reaching social and economic policies, which combined recovery measures with measures of social reform.’ The League of Nations 1938 survey added, ‘The consequent doubt regarding the prospects of profit and the uneasy relations between business-men and the Government have in the opinion of many, been an important factor in delaying recovery,” noting that, unlike the UK and Germany, both France and USA by 1938 had, ‘failed to regain the 1929 level of employment and production.”

The countries that “white knuckled” it on the whole got out of it more rapidly and restored their previous levels of employment and production.

The WPA built infrastructure that are still masterpieces of American design, know-how and engineering and the TVA electrified much of rural America. It didn’t entire lick unemployment up to World War II… but it made Americans feel like things were heading in the right direction. And they were.

People just don’t see it today because much of the money has been wasted on bureaucracy and useless social investments than in improving American lives. That’s the problem with the Obama approach – you just can’t throw money at problems without some idea of what would do the most good in the long run. The people of a century ago made mistakes to be sure but they knew what suited for this country and what wasn’t.

The New Deal was a unique American answer to OUR problems and we didn’t try to blindly copy others’ ways of doing things and we succeeded. Europe today faces stagnation and decline due to highly taxed, over-regulated and protected economies. Our own approach grows out of our customs and experiences and we do understand they’re not right for every one else.

Obama wants to go far beyond that. And I said, I don’t think we want to be like Europe because we are an entirely different people. I do defend our modest tinkering with schemes to rebuild the country and taking care of people because we should be sure they work and they are worth the human cost. Its helped us avoid the disastrous mistakes of European history.

We’ll find our way back and knowing the mistakes we have made, we’ll have the future we deserve. But only if we understand that going along with Obama will never ensure it for us and our children.

Even with all the advantages that Obama has as an incumbent, he still can’t shake the fact the things that should be helping him are the things no cares about and the things that aren’t helping him unfortunately for him, are the things people care very much about.

Those things will become obvious no matter how much the mass media tries to massage the debates in favor. Its simply not a good year to be an incumbent.

And like Carville put it back in 1992, “if you don’t have your job, why on earth should the President keep his job?” Heck, if that was a good enough reason to toss the first President Bush from office back then its even more good enough reason to fire Obama this year.

As Worry01 indicated, the New Deal didn’t solve anything. Just after Roosevelt’s 1936 re-election, the 1937 downturn came, and things were as bad as in 1930.

In addition there is a risk in abstracting economic issues from their political and social context. A good one-sentence illustration is that Mussolini made the trains run on time.

Don’t underestimate the stupidity of the American Public. The millions of people waiting for redistribution of wealth from those who worked hard and built a business to those who have not will love his speech no matter what, because so many people would rather receive free money than work for it, no matter the harm being done to the USA.

Obama won’t “win” the election. Romney will just lose it. It’s as simple as that. Our candidate is pretty much a one-man Obama rescue team. Can there be any doubt at this point that some of his advisors are deliberately trying to sabotage his campaign? Assuming, of course, that Mitt isn’t the lead saboteur himself.

And Granholm, lol. If someone with zero knowledge of politics just happened to flip the channel to her speech, they would surely think that this woman was literally retarded. And save the PC clucks, gang – I’m not criticizing the retarded, I’m noting a similarity…and an undeniable one at that.

Debbie, I to didn’t watch his acceptance speech, I knew it’ll be the typical, left wingism by attacking the other side (ok I understand and know that both sides are supposed to attack in eachother in a normal democracy or we’ll have a dictatorship), demagoguging on almost every issue, etc. Since I was watching TNA Wrestling and NCAA Football last night (Pittsburgh Panthers @ Cincinnati Bearcats) I won’t be surprised if both the NCAA Football game and TNA Wrestling had better ratings then the DNC from last night?

To me, both conventions are a waste of US taxpayers time, the conventions should’ve ended either 100 years ago with the invention of the telephone and telegraph or 65 years ago with the advant of the television? And I’m assuming the debates will be another sleep-fest, and more likely, Mitt Romney will stand there like a douchebag and let Obama go on the attack on him, and that’s why I’m not sure if I’m going to vote two months from now?

Look for an “October Surprise” attack on Iran. I think today’s break-off of diplomatic relations between Canada and Iran are a sign that something is brewing.

The “news for public consumption” is that the U.S. and Israel are at odds about this. When the Canadians suddenly pull their diplomats out of Tehran, I suspect they want to get them out of harms way. Yes, I know Stephen Harper has more principle in his baby finger than the rest of the world’s leaders, but the timing of this move seems to coincide with what some have predicted for a while.

Soooo… if you’re planning to take credit for making the world safe from a nuclear Iran, who needs a show-stopping speech at a convention nobody is watching? :+)

A successful attack on Iran would be universally praised throughout the United States. O’Bama’s opponents could not complain no matter how suspicious they are.

O’Bama’s supporters have have no principles whatsoever. Anything that helps O’Bama win the election is automatically supported. These are the people who rallied around Cindy Sheehan when she protested in front of George Bush’s ranch and then sat on their hands when Nancy Pelosi’s supporters ransacked Sheehan’s congressional campaign office when she ran against Pelosi. These people are blindly obedient to authority. They have no principles and will not question anything their President does.

While I agree with Debbie on the speech, my only worry is that the Demographics of this country has changed, and so has the mindset of the populace. Like California, it doesn’t matter how inept the politicians are, the fools will keep reelecting the same idiots to office until the country implodes. This is not the country that voted in Reagan. The Hispanic population is growing by leaps and bounds (thank you GOP), and the under 30 crowd has never experienced the growth of the economy during the Reagan years, so the electorate doesn’t know any better. The deficit is meaningless to a good portion of voters, and African-Americans will vote in droves. At convention time, Reagan was double digits ahead of carter, and now the polls are even, How can that be? This is the first time I truly fear for our country especially if we reelect this buffoon. If we reelect him, we will be Spain. I pray you are right.

I played around with the Electoral College table number and the election came down to Ohio and Florida. All the rest will simply line up according to historical voting patterns. Those are the states in which a lot of money and commercial air time will be be bought because they are true swing states.

These two states are Ground Zero of the 2012 general election. The rest won’t simply matter.

Debbie I don’t gamble but I think Ozero will win. People now see the federal government as the great equalizer that lets them underachieve and benefit from those who make money and pay taxes. And now Ozero has signaled that private businesses should be considered public assets so his constituency can feel better about themselves while they scream for more freebies. Debbie I’ve never seen a sorrier bunch than the pro Obama crowd, although I would like to knock some sense into Sxarlett johansson.

Due to me being in night school I missed the whole speech(what luck). I turned on the TV and this clown was leaving the stage with his wookie hag and their ewoks. I was waiting to see if the mamma-in-law was going to zip around the corner to complete the picture but no dice. Yes Mittens is a flawed candidate but if Obowma wins reelection you can kiss the America that we know goodbye. Why? Because he will not have to worry about campagning, deaing with the masses etc. That way he will be free to implement his rotten policies that are distroying the nation. I heard that his speech was flat as a pancake and that the smile with a body behind it Joe Biden was better. You know that you sucked if that happened. I do agree with Norman about how this election will come down to Ohio and Floriduh.

CNN (Communist News Network) which campaigns so heavily for Obama, just did a poll — yeah, they’re claiming that obama has surged ahead of Romney in popularity (it’s a huge Democratic Party Convention bump, they claim). It’s utterly ludicrous, given Obama’s speech — I am at a loss in understanding what’s going on in America. Either the poll is completely bogus, or Americans are brain-dead. (I’m beginning to suspect it’s the latter — they’re utter imbeciles/idiots/cretins — facts and reality don’t seem to impinge or have any impact whatsoever on their views. What a disaster awaiting these people…) Well, I guess you get the govt you deserve…
