I don’t get what everyone’s raving about with regard to Bill Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, last night. It was long, boring, and a waste of an hour of my life I’ll never get back. And, um, isn’t this guy an accused rapist who was impeached? Just sayin’. They needed a more interesting backdrop to keep me attuned while I listened to the Chief Justice of the Hawaiian Tropic Bikini Contest Court drone on and on and on as if he were still Prez, as he fantasizes he still is. My choice of backdrop, which I kept envisioning as he spoke: Slick Willie posing with the three porn stars in Europe. Or a photo of a blue Gap dress, stain et al hanging on a door. Hey, Bill, you know you’re a redneck when . . . .

I thought Clinton gave a great speech. He did a great job of diverting our attention from the last 4 years.

He talked about “the arithmetic of their plan” and “the arithmetic of our plan”. What NO politician ever tells you is that campaign promises are NOT binding contracts. Remember the “plan” to close Gitmo? Or how ’bout the O’Bama plan announced on June 4, 2008 “Jerusalem willremain the capital of Israel and it MUST remain undivided.” Plans schmams!

Someone should have reminded Clinton (or tweeted had they had the presence of mind to do so) to mention the arithmetic of the last 4 years. Why do arithmetic on plans that will never be implemented when we can do arithmetic on the RESULTS of this President O’Bama exercising his last “plan”.

For some reason, I haven’t heard anyone here address THAT.

I didn’t watch any of the conventions, to me they’re both long, slow and boring, and since the NFL season started last night, I won’t be surprised if the “Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants” game got more ratings than the DNC?

I also heard and read that the GOP’s convention’s ratings last week sucked, because it to was borings, slow and long (as you mention whenever you do your film reviews each friday Debbie). And since I’m right now watching TNA Wrestling, I to won’t be surprised if TNA Wrestling’s ratings beat the DNC’s ratings this evening!

I’m right with you there Sean I didn’t watch none of this convention and I barely caught the RNC snoozefest. I’ve been watching reruns, old movies that I DVR’ed and tennis. I made it a point to not watch that lying wretch Slick Willy Cintoon instead I watched my boys put a hurting on Eli Manning and the Giants. Odumbo must really be huring if he had to unflush this turd of an ex-president. I still remember when this douchebag wagged his crooked finger on tv and lied about not having sex with that woman. I’m trying to keep track of how Sharapova’s doing. I’m going to try to watch today’s matches because I think that she’s up. As a conservative, I must dissent: Clinton gave a superb speech — for a Democrat. No, I’m not going to vote for Obama. I’m going with Romney. But swing voters will be swayed by Clinton’s words. It was hard-hitting, and on the right issues, and was a ringing endorsement without being fawning. He did what he had to do.

Remember, presidential elections ALWAYS are won or lost on the swing vote, and in key swing states like Florida, Colorado and Ohio. Forget that crap about “energizing the base.” A politician might as well be energizing the Energizer Bunny. Romney and Obama each need the swing vote to win. Every speech, pamphlet, debate, robo-call, poster, leaflet and webcast, explicitly or implicitly, is a play for that 20 percent (and nearly all-white) bloc known as the swing vote. A powerful unifying speech from an A-list figure sometimes is all it takes.

My prediction: Florida. That’s right. Like in 2000, it’s all going to come down to the Sunshine State. And it may get REALLY ugly this time around.

I like your post. I agree with you. Clinton’s speech was great and (like you) it did nothing to convince me to vote for O’Bama.

You’re prediction may also be true, but I have something additional. In 2008, 77% of the Jewish vote went to O’Bama. That may seem like a lot, but I can tell you that 2008 is the first time since the 1920’s a Democratic Presidential candidate won with less than 80% of the Jewish vote.

What was different in 2008? Well… my theory is that having a Black candidate brought out black voters who normally did not vote.

What’s different now? The novelty of a Black President has wore off and unemployment among Blacks is horrific. The thrill is gone.

It will take a miracle for Barack O’Bama to get the Jewish vote back to 80% or better. Even an attack on Iran (i.e. an “October Surprise”) might not succeed in getting the number over the 80% threshold.

If all this holds true, it’s possible we could see a GOP landslide. Clinton can talk all about the Democrat’s plan and the Republican’s plan (See my comments above). People notice the RESULTS and that includes a lot of African-American voters who were excited (and rightfully so) back in 2008 to have an African-American Presidential candidate.

A lot of these guys are going to stay home this time having noticed that O’Bama’s election has not changed their lot for the better. Without a dramatic show of support for Israel, Jewish support for O’Bama could sink into the 60% range giving Romney strong support in the big electoral states.

If the African-Americans don’t show up for O’Bama and the Jewish vote deteriorates further, this could be a blowout. Add to that the lost of enthusiasm of key unions (United Mine Workers, IBEW and others who have lost jobs to O’Bama’s “green jobs” initiative) and this gets worse for O’Bama than anyone can imagine.

Maybe this is wishful thinking on my part, but I think I’m observing these things.
