Just in Time for the Commie-lympics: China Starts the “Makeover”

By
China is gearing up for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. And you know what that means: A makeover. The Chi-Coms don’t wnat you to see the slavery, the lack of human rights, the awful results of communism. So, they’re redoing their country top to bottom for the three weeks that everyone will be watching.
It’s all cosmetic, though.
Several news agencies report that China is even changing its menu. They don’t want us to think China features weird food, so Xu Hongzhi, Deputy to the National People’s Congress and President of Peking University is insisting that China remove certain “delicacies” from all menus:

China should take all shark fin dishes off the menu for foreign visitors before the 2008 Olympic Games, a lawmaker said on Tuesday.

Officials in China traditionally honour distinguished guests with huge banquets climaxing with rare or exotic dishes featuring such delicacies as bear’s paw, swallow’s nest, monkey brains as well as the famous soup made from shark fin.
Xu Hongzhi, deputy to the National People’s Congress and president of the prestigious Peking University, said such menu items might upset foreign guests.
“Serving shark fin to foreign guests during the Olympic Games could greatly hurt China’s national image and officials should start to remove the dish from the dining table right now,” he told state Xinhua news agency.
Xu said China should also stay away from dishes using other species of wildlife such as snake during the Games.
“It’s not only an environmental issue, but one that has a direct bearing on the image of Chinese people,” he said.

So, they’re changing the menus in China for when all the world is watching. What else will they be changing (temporarily) to fool international guests about the real China? Remember, all of these changes are cosmetic–smoke and mirrors stuff to hide the ravages of Communist totalitarianism.

Expect NBC to give you a very sanitized version of China in its Olympic coverage. And perhaps expect peanut-butter-and-jelly and sloppy Joes on the fake–and temporary–menu.

Does this mean that they will be taking the puppies in cages out of the food markets?

Eating monkey brains! That explains everything about the Commie-Chinese mentality.

Every once in a while you have a post on here about how backwards other countries are because of the weird food they eat.
Not that I disagree with you that China’s an evil country, but what does eating shark fin soup have to do with that?
Couldn’t we focus on things like China’s forced abortions, thought police, forced organ donations from political prisoners, etc. instead of superficial stuff like this? I’ve been told while living abroad that it’s weird and disgusting that Americans use soy sauce as a condiment on white rice. Should they consider us immoral for that? Or maybe you’d like to claim that shark fin soup is objectively more immoral than, say, Rocky Mountain Oysters?
DAN:
YOU COMPLETELY MISSED THE POINT HERE. MY POINT–STATED VERY EXPLICITLY–WAS THAT IF THEY ARE GOING TO HIDE SUCH TRIVIAL THINGS AS THEIR MENU FROM THE OLYMPIC VIEWING AND VISITING PUBLIC, WE CAN ONLY PREDICT WHICH OF THEIR MANY CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY THE CHINESE WILL BE HIDING FROM PUBLIC VIEW.

Dan: I understand what you’re saying, but shark fin soup might be a bad example. A number of shark species are actually becoming endangered because of all the sharks being slaughtered for just their fins. Also, most sharks have only their fins cut off and then they’re dropped back into the ocean to die.
I don’t have a problem with people eating animals (I can barely go a day without eating meat myself), but I do have a problem with people being irresponsible with resources that are becoming depleted.
I also don’t think Rocky Mountain Oysters will ever be in short supply. Although, I don’t know how they ‘harvest’ those…do they kill the bull first, or do they just slice them off? That would suck.

I was in Beijing at the same time Prez Bush was there [sometime around thanksgiving] and the most amazing thing was that there was “blue sky”….the chinese locals told me that it was unusual to have blue sky due to the fact that everyone keeps warm in the winter by burning coal, but that the government turned the factories OFF, prior to Bush showing up, so all the photo-ops were blue sky shots. Three days after Bush left, the air was barely breathable, once again……
Look forward to a price increase on your chinese made goods you buy at Old Navy….they will have to make it up somehow, when they turn off the factories for the Olympics!
As for the food, shark fin soup – give me a break, nobody really eats that there….the thing the government will shut down is all the night markets that grill outdoors, a myriad of spiders, goat penises, skinned snakes, grubs, scorpions, testicles, snouts, all on shishkebab skewers….the stench is much like burnt hair and plastic…..revolting, yet you can’t look away…
And lastly, they are building the entire olympic zone in one, concrete walled fortress – it must be miles upon miles long, all self contained in a pseudo-Disneyesque manner…don’t need the touristas venturing out and discovering all the abundant, yet revolting and stenchy public washing/toilet facilities…ever piss in a bucket full of piss? yeah, it splatters a bit….and guess what, Beijing summers, make Michigan summers look cool and mild…..I can almost smell it now!

China executes between 2,000-10,000 people a year, they won’t tell anyone how many. Over 99% of the people charged with a capital offense are found guilty. This country is a joke, they have no business being our equal trading partner and our “friend”.

hey – as long as we keep buying stuff from the Chinese, have our products made in China and imported to sell back to ourselves, then who cares what they eat there……..we’re slitting our own throats one cell at a time….
It’s sad that I’m actually suprised to see something I buy with a Made in USA tag…….
