To the Iranian Election Greeniacs in America & the West

By Debbie Schlussel
One other thing I need to add to all of you stupid, clueless people all over the American right and left and the rest of the West who are putting green icons on your website, your facebook and twitter pictures, etc.:
I’m laughing at you, along with the Islamic world. You’ve voluntarily colored yourself with allegiance to them. It would be hilarious, if it wasn’t so sad and boneheaded. By projecting “democracy,” “freedom,” and a “free Iran” onto Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who reflects none of these and taking up his green stuff, you’re actually saying you are with the Muslim world. That’s what green means, but apparently you don’t know . . . and more importantly, don’t care.
Are you that clueless? Do you not know that green is the color of Islam? Militant Islam? How does it feel to wear the same color as the lights of the Empire State Building when it honored Ramadan? Are you that ignorant or do you not realize that you’re signifying your unity with the Saudi flag, the HAMAS flag, the green on the Hezbollah flag, and the green that’s on virtually every Islamic nation’s flags?
Get a Clue: A Few Other Things that Are Green . . .
HAMAS Flag . . .

Are you really that incompetent to be unable to connect very simple dots?

I would compare the election of Mousavi or Achmadinijad in Iran to a choice between Hitler and Himmler in pre war Germany. However, Iran is a theocracy run by the Supreme Leader and his council of Mullahs. Regardless of who won the election, Iran will remain the foremost sponsor of terrorism and Islamo-Facisim in the world because that is what the real rulers want. Regime change in Iran has nothing to do with presidential elections, but rather the overthrow of the mullacracy, and that isn’t going to happen any time soon. For the meida to compare the events in Iran to the Prague Spring, Hungarian uprising or Polish Solidarity movement is disingenuous at best, or fabrication at worst. And no Debbie, neither the media nor our current administration will connect the dots, because that doesn’t agree with their agenda.

I knew what green means, but, like David Letterman, it’s all a matter of what I intend & not how you interpret what I say or do. Thus, I choose to use green to celebrate St. Patrick & my Irish heritage.
I agree that the choice, such as it was, was between one angry guy with a bear & another angry guy with a beard, but, obviously, the mullahs wanted angry beard guy #1 & the people wanted angry beard guy #2. By supporting the protesters, you’re supporting the people’s opposition the mullahs having everything their way all the time.
The Hungarian uprising & Prague spring didn’t immediately lead to the collapse of the USSR, but they helped to undermine Soiet control. Every little bit helps.
Ironically, the rumor is that the mullahs are outsourcing their protest head bashing to immigrant Hamas people, so you & the protesters might have something in common with your dislike of Palestinian militants.

Its like a putting nazi colors up and claiming nazis are born again democrats. Some people just don’t care the Mousavi folks are Khomeinists. They just want a different bad guy in charge in Iran. Wake the heck up!

Debbie, youíre right again. Itís so pathetic, and down right scary just how stupidly naÔve and gullible so many folks are regarding islam.
Immediately after 3,000 Americans were incinerated on 09/11/01, President George W. Bush himself said ìislam is a religion of peace.î and ìislam means peaceî (no, it means submission).
Americans and westerners are so needy of the approval of barbaric islam that they will just bend over and take it up the wazoo.
Just look around at how many blonde haired, blue eyed, dumb-asses on college campuses wear a kaffiyeh around their necks and never realize what that fashion statement is really saying.

Rocky on June 18, 2009 at 3:58 pm

MSU (Green and White)in Dubai–now I get it.
I like green as a color for a polo shirt I wear sometimes. It irks me that the greenies and the muslims have hijacked this color–just like the gays have hijacked purple.
The Commies have red. Goth sickos like black and white. What’s left, maize and blue? and What does that college (U-MIch) stand for?–how about rainbow–oh yeah, that’s Jesse Jackson’s fruit loop choice. Pink is for ladies—I give up! Orange??

Can’t Islam come up with their own shit for once. Green has always been for the Irish, the Crescent was a symbol for Wicca, and Jerusalem has always been the capital of the Jewish Nation!

Most are still as clueless as during the 80’s. Remember the Reagan administration making deals and selling weapons to the so-called “moderates” in Iran. We had so much hope then that the “moderates” would take over. We were wrong and we looked so stupid. I am sure they were laughing at us and slapping themselves on the back. And here we go again. I believe there are sinister agents amongst us who are the source of this “moderate” deception. There are no moderates in that fanatic filled country!!! So many here are still clueless. It seems many are incapable of learning.

Green is also on the IRISH flag. Like adagioforstrings said I choose to use green to celebrate St. Patrick & my Irish heritage. Also my green number 33 shirt is for Larry Bird not Muhammad Bird.
[C: I’M WELL AWARE THAT GREEN IS THE IRISH COLOR, TOO, BUT NOT IN CONNECTION WITH IRAN. HOW MANY IRANIAN IRISHMEN ARE THERE? NOPE, THE PEOPLE USING GREEN OVER THEIR FACES AND ICONS ARE DOING IT IN SOLIDARITY WITH OPPOSITION EXTREMISTS IN THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC. DS]

President George W. Bush himself said ìislam is a religion of peace.î and ìislam means peaceî (no, it means submission) – Rocky
In case anyone reading this would like to know exactly how that works so you can argue from a position of knowledge, here’s a quick Arabic lesson:
Words that contain the same 3 consonants used in the same order are related. The letters seen, lam, and meem (s,l,m to us) relate the words, islam, salaam, and muslim. Islam, as stated by Rocky, means submission. But, the important thing to realize is that in context of the religion, it means submission to god, which is an entirely spiritual thing. Muslim means “one who submits (spiritually to god). and salaam means “peace”, but of course it really means SPIRITUAL peace (by submitting to god). It has nothing whatsoever to do with peace as opposed to war. It has nothing to do with not killing your infidel enemies.
Mohamed Atta was undoubtedly feeling a deep sense of “peace” as he was flying that plane into the WTC.
“Peace”, my @$$!

Yes, Islam has ruined a perfectly good color.

Guess what? AllahPundit is at it again in putting out propaganda that Moussaka (whatever his name is) and Achmadinijad are not alike. http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/18/mousavi-spokesman-to-obama-stop-saying-that-were-no-different-from-ahmadinejad/
Also, thanks to AllahPundit we know we need not worry about Obama’s strong Muslim background /s

This is just as ignorant as uninformed people supporting the revolution.
Remember;
“Most Muslims aren’t terrorists, just most terrorists are Muslims.”

Boy… I did’nt know … really, I guess that is why I visit the site…thanks for the heads up. Although, I am doing okay considering I did not even pay attention to Islam even a year ago, talk about shock and awe.

Don’t those people relize they are playing a dangerous game that will bring US face to face with our destruction? They think they are making a choice to support the lesser of two evils not realizing they are being drawn into a trap that will cost us everything: our liberty, our right to choose which religion to follow, our legal system, and even our souls. Muslims, whether they wear green or black or red or white are totally intolerant of any other philosphical, religious, scientific, or legal systems. A choice between the devil in black or the devil in green is still a decision to choose a devil. I just don’t get it. I am Christian and closely follow the events in the middle east, and what I see happening is distrubing. But, what is going on in America with all these people going green for Iran is totally demented. We’re supposed to be smarter than that…

They just had a big show of support for Iranians two days ago here in San Diego at the Federal Building. There must have been at 200-300 at the street corners. I think it is ironic that the liberals who hated Bush so much now are complaining about the two biggest headaches to KING HUSSEIN COBRAMA. Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Ill. Wow, I hear a missile flying over Hawaii on July 4th? Hmmm, what a fireworks show KING HUSSEIN. It 3 A.M. and the phone is ringing KING HUSSEIN?

An alternative viewpoint, that Carolyn Glick has brought forward, is Israel should get on the side of those who want freedom in Iran. The reasons are to help those who want to overthrow the regime or weaken it to the point that it can no longer subvert the rest of the world with terror and violence and build a nuclear bomb to usher in an Armageddon. Forcing the mullahs on the defensive is to Israel’s benefit. Every day they are pre-occupied with repressing their own people is a day they can’t spend buying weapons abroad or arming Hezbollah and Hamas. Israel has the rare opportunity to help bring about change in Iran at very little cost. There are not many times in history when Israel can stand up for freedom and also act as the voice of democracy and justice in the Muslim World. Its a win-win situation: either the regime is overthrown and Israel’s security situation is literally changed overnight or in the worst case, the Islamist Khomeinists engage in a massive bloodbath to keep themselves in power, draining their regime of the legitimacy to promote and advance Islamic revolution abroad and making it harder for the Obama Administration and the West to engage with them. For Israel, the present Iranian turmoil represents an opportunity to be seized to try to change the face of the Middle East and lift a nuclear Sword Of Damocles hanging over its head.

The reason to support the uprising is that this kind of thing can spiral out of control and possibly lead to real reform.
Once the people are no longer afraid of the gov’t, then they will no longer put up the oppression.

Allan on June 19, 2009 at 3:35 pm

I agree with Debbie, this was irrelevant. Originally, it was nothing more than a complaint about a rigged election and a competition between two Khomeinist rivals, both having the same the worldview. But something has now changed given the Supreme Jurist’s panicked reaction and the mullahs’ concern: the people of Iran want change and revolutions are born this way. Something is taking place underneath the surface in Iran and a dam has been broken. I think we’ll know when the people no longer fear those oppressing them. Mousavi has now become an enemy of the regime he was a part of and that is a development the mullahs did not anticipate: that people would come out against them. Time will tell if it leads to change or nothing comes of it.

Schlussel’s rant here is wonderful and refreshing. However, there is one little problem: it’s a problem I have noticed with another fine essayist, Diana West, who on her blog has also decried this strange phenomenon of an irrational romanticization of the “Iranian People”.
And that problem is that neither Schlussel nor West have remarked upon the curious, and lamentable fact that two important luminaries from within the Anti-Islam Movement — namely, Robert Spencer and Pam Geller — have been among the most flagrant “Greeniacs” around, both of them purveying a preposterous romanticization of this opposition movement in Iran, and both of them virtually ignoring all the evidence of the deeply suspicious nature of the leaders of that opposition movement (including not only Mousavi, but also Ayatollah Montazeri, Maryam Rajavi and Massoud Rajavi of the Mujahideen-e-Khalq (MEK), and Mohsen Kadivar).
Both Spencer and Geller have also been ignoring Diana West and Debbie Schlussel.
Meanwhile, West and Schlussel have been ignoring Spencer and Geller’s mania for the Iranian People.
What’s going on here? It looks like the “Gentlemen’s Agreement of Silence” of the Anti-Islam Movement — whereby the unofficial aristocracy of the Movement pretend like there are no significant disagreements among themselves in the interest of protecting their silly anxiety that public differences will somehow weaken the Movement (when actually the strength of any sociopolitical movement is measured in great part by its ability to air differences in a mature and intelligent manner out in the sunshine of public discussion) is operating here. I don’t know how else to explain this blind spot in Schlussel and West — ordinarly the most perspicacious analysts around — for the egregious behavior of Spencer and Geller.
It’s bad enough when the MSM (both Right and Left) indulge in this kind of irrational romanticization of the Iranian People. It’s even worse, one would think, when major luminaries within the Anti-Islam Movement, such as Spencer and Geller, do so. And this problem is then compounded when other noteworthy luminaries within the Anti-Islam Movement — namely, Schlussel and West — ignore it.

Hesperado on July 6, 2009 at 2:24 pm

Unfortunately, among the “stupid, clueless people” Ms. Schlussel is referring to are Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, who in this regard for months and months have been slathering on the sentimentalist romanticization of the “Iranian People” to a point long past where the vomit meter should read spew.

Odd, though, that neither Ms. Schlussel nor Diana West, who are some of the only sane people around on this issue, ever take Spencer and Geller to task for this.

H: Wrong. I’ve repeatedly taken the frauds Spencer and Geller to task. Do a search on my site. DS
