VIDEO: Mayor Bloomberg Wants You To Live in Apt Size of 2 Parking Spaces, Wash Dishes in Shower

By Debbie Schlussel

Do you want to eat on dishes that were washed in your shower? If New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg has his way, you’ll have no choice. And you’ll live in confined quarters.

First, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (the uber-creepy billionaire reminds me of “Lost in Space’s” Dr. Smith) said no smoking in bars and restaurants. Then, he said that he gets to decide the size of your soft drink. And, now, he’s saying that New Yorkers should live in tiny apartments the size of two parking spaces. . . while he lives in a palatial mansion. If this isn’t Marxism, what is? Check out this video of what it takes to live in such a tiny space by the few people who do so, including doing your dishes in the shower. Ick.

And yet the sheep keep on re-electing people like this.

I do live in a studio apartment….

But I hate it when billionaires tell the rest of us we can’t have a six bedroom home for our kids – well because it doesn’t fit in with their urban vision of the future.

What it has come down to is this: when liberals get to decide what you can drink and where you can get your get your health care, they can definitely get to decide where you can live.

The tyranny of good intentions knows no limits and sooner than later will expand to consume all of our freedoms until we have none left.

No one can say they weren’t warned. New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s megalomania proves it!

NormanF on July 12, 2012 at 2:11 pm

You are spot-on. Liberals talk about “freedom of choice,” but are constantly looking to limit others’ choices on everything from smoking to Happy Meals. They also decry “elitism,” yet they are always appointing themselves the arbiters of what is fair. When Diane Sawyer moves out of her home into one of those Bloomberg units, then at least I’ll respect her for not being a hypocrite.

The article says 300 sq ft studio apartments for singles in New York City will cost $2000 a month to rent and would be amount to the size of half a subway car – and they are currently illegal under New York City construction code.

Ick! It makes my 600 sq ft studio apartment in a small town I rent for $500 a month look like a luxury mansion! I’d say Bloomberg’s “micro apartments” are overpriced for what people can get… even in one of the expensive cities to live in America!

NormanF on July 12, 2012 at 2:17 pm

Bloomberg is a control freak nut job. According to a report in the Daily Rash, he’s authorized NYPD officers to begin executing anyone smoking within city limits this summer. http://www.thedailyrash.com/new-york-city-passes-law-to-begin-executing-smokers

Laura on July 12, 2012 at 2:18 pm

Laura… now seriously??

Liberals and Islamic terrorists have one thing in common for sure – they both want us to live a spartan and joyless existence!

NormanF on July 12, 2012 at 2:21 pm

Notice how ABC gives a positive spin to Bloomberg’s proposal.

Meanwhile, people on welfare will get 8A housing vouchers, allowing them to live in luxury housing having three to four or more bedrooms. (People are losing their homes in Montgomery County, Maryland, and the county subsidizes units in luxury apartments in downtown Bethesda, one of the wealthies communities in America).

Bloomberg’s idea sounds like he got it from the book, “1984.” The leaders will live in palatial, large carbon footprinted homes, and have vacation homes to boot, while the people live in tiny cubbie holes.

Of course, NYers always elect these liberals. Then, after their neighborhood is ruined by bad liberal policies, they move to Florida, Arizona, Maryland, and elsewhere and work to elect the kind of politicians that caused them to leave New York!!!!

Goldwater was fundamentally right. NY and much of the East Coast (and now West Coast) should have been sawed off the rest of the US.

Jonathan E. Grant on July 12, 2012 at 2:23 pm

Much like Tokyo apartment dwellers…

Alan on July 12, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Michael Bloomberg and Al Gore are something else. Both of them want to enforce a lifestyle on the rest of us that neither of them would ever consider for themselves.

I_AM_ME on July 12, 2012 at 2:37 pm

Yessir, the next step will be the death panels. He’s just getting us ready for them.

Little Al on July 12, 2012 at 2:40 pm

The funny thing is Bloomberg once lived in a 600 sq ft studio for $120 month – and here he’s offering apartments half that size for roughly seventeen times the price – in inflation adjusted dollars! If I was a young professional, I would have to say that is extremely overpriced. Its a poor way to keep and retain young people beginning their careers in New York City.

Liberals always seem to come up with most impractical and expensive solutions to city housing problems – and this isn’t affordable! You couldn’t pay me enough to live in one of Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed micro apartments!

NormanF on July 12, 2012 at 2:46 pm

Debbie, actually Bloomberg is being generous – in San Francisco, they’re talking about legalizing “show box’ apartments – 150 sq ft in size:

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/07/10/sf-considers-reducing-minimums-to-allow-shoebox-apartments/

Yup – econo has taken on a whole new meaning in America – “efficiency living!”

NormanF on July 12, 2012 at 2:51 pm

I notice the crux to one of the sheeple’s comments was that she has enough to “survive.” Is that all we want out of life – simply to survive?
There’s a fine line between tyranny and spartan living and Bloomie has clearly pole vaulted over it.
Freedom is paramount to enjoying life. As our freedoms continue to erode, I hope people will be smart enough to move to a state where their freedoms have not yet been stolen.
As more and more people do so, the states losing populations will lose electoral votes, become less significant politically.
Those who cannot afford to leave will be the ones requiring government aid to subsist paid for by the ultra-liberals who won’t leave – and they can have it.
I’ll keep my freedom, my comfortable house and my dishes out of my bathroom.

Sanford Horn on July 12, 2012 at 2:56 pm

I noticed that, too. It’s because the liberal media have been pushing our living at the subsistance level as “The New Normal.” Can u imagine the media applauding and promoting that people settle for crap if a Republican were in the White House? This Bloomberg apartment idea is the perfect fodder for Saturday Night Live, Colbert, and John Stewart – not let’s see if they have the cojones to do a skit on the pure elitist hypocrisy of this venture.

@Laura — You do realize that the Daily Rash is a satirical website, don’t you?

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer set up a garbage disposal in his shower, so that he could wash his veggies while bathing @ the same time 😀

Infidel on July 12, 2012 at 3:04 pm

Isn’t Bloomberg’s scheme something out of what many Communist countries had done in terms of housing for the so-called “proletariat,” packing them into cramped quarters like sardines? “If this isn’t Marxism, what is?,” indeed.

ConcernedPatriot on July 12, 2012 at 3:15 pm

I used to live in a 450 sq. ft. apartment in DC, for which I paid $200 per month back in the late 1970s. My needs (and income) were modest, so it was OK at the time. I moved from there to a 1,000 sq. ft. coop, which I currently own. Much nicer. Room for my books, my many electronic toys, a real bed, even room to socialize with friends.

What’s not mentioned is the reason apartments are so small and so costly in NYC: rent control. There’s no free market that would allow developers to tear down smaller buildings to build larger with more capacity. So limited housing stock is divided up to meet market demand. Yet another liberal solution with unintended consequences.

And what fool decided it made sense to build in a refrigerator right next to a heat source (a convection microwave), as seen in that video?

“uber-creepy billionaire reminds me of “Lost in Space’s” Dr. Smith”

LOL!

Dr. Mayor Zachary Bloomberg at your service!

DS_ROCKS! on July 12, 2012 at 3:35 pm

I have to to say that Dr. Zachary Smith would most assuredly be more tolerable than Mayor Bloomberg. Rest in Peace Jonathan Harris. 🙂 He was the sort of bad guy who never really had the heart to follow through.

Worry on July 12, 2012 at 4:40 pm

This seems like something a trusty would get in a penitentiary. Was the mayor inspired by correctional architecture? Is living in New York City now akin to serving one’s sentence?

Worry on July 12, 2012 at 4:46 pm

What a POS for a mayor. He’s pretty well taken the positives (whatever were left) out of NYC, for the average American, that is.

Not Ovenready on July 12, 2012 at 5:32 pm

LOL Worry. I agree with you on “Dr. Smith”. I was very young when the re-runs were on the UVF channels but I knew he was wimpy and smarmy and he was my favourite on the show. He cracked me up. Nanny Bloomberg is just like DS said…a hypocrite billionaire Marxist. I can’t stand that fey charlatan.

Hey peeps…”Laura” is like the site-pimping (The Daily Rash) version of A1. “She” only posts to promote that site. I never go because I am too busy trying to learn about the REAL “funny business” of politics. I don’t find that site funny anyway. I wonder who assigned her to this site? “She’d” be better off pimping this site to others than the nonsense she tries to promote.

I reject the Gubmint getting all up in my grill. I don’t care if people wanna live like that but I don’t.

Doing the dishes in your fricken’ bathroom is disgusting!!!

I’d be more than happy to wash Bloomberg’s dishes in my toilet.

Are half the freakin’ NY millionaires out of their minds or is it just my imagination? Actually thw whole State is polluted with these loony liberals. If you ever wondered what the inside of an insane assylum feels like just live here for a few years.

Good point MRS. I think I’d go with a face mask too. Wouldn’t want to get any of Bloomberg’s loon germs on myself 😉

Seriously, I think there is something mentally wrong with a lot of our politicians.

No. It’s just what power does to petty people. People have to remember that the United States is a republic and vote the rascals out.

According to today’s New York Post, the average rent for a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan is now $3,386 per month. One room apartments there average $2569 monthly. Even at these rates, apartments may be rented in as little as one hour after becoming available. I believe that one reason for these unconscionable rents, a reason no one ever mentions, is the large number of illegal aliens who live in New York – possibly half a million or more; this reduces the vacancy rate for rental units to near zero, making rentals unaffordable in better parts of the city. Yes, rent control and other factors come into play as well, but the presence of vast numbers of illegals is the proverbial gorilla in the room, completely ignored by Bloomberg, the press, and everyone else. Imagine how rents would be affected if even half of those residing in New York illegally would be deported. I estimate at least fifty thousand units would become available.

commonsense on July 12, 2012 at 9:02 pm

Repuke Texas Gov Rick Perry just slashed his states budget by $15 billion last year (Incl $5 bil Education & 3.1 bil Medicaid). But he saw fit to go overbudget with his $25 million Governor’s Mansion renovation. That includes 1-inch thick Longleaf wood floors!! So it’s not as if the renovation was frivolous or anything, right?

Lee on July 12, 2012 at 9:18 pm

Lee, who cares what you have to say. I’ve proven many times that you only know Liberal talking-points and don’t have any grasp of the facts. Get lost. It’s sad you spend so much time here but learn NOTHING.

Skunky on July 13, 2012 at 12:19 am

I am a “Repuke,” Lee, and because of that, I don’t ignore anyone’s hypocrisy or profligate spending of tax-payer dollars. If Perry did that, he should be kicked out of office. Now, since u are so concerned about waste, fraud, abuse, profligacy, and hypocrisy, where is your outcry over the actions of the Dumbocrats on your side of the aisle?

    Dina K on July 13, 2012 at 9:47 am

Nauseating. Shocking. Since when is it the Mayor’s job to call for the construction of housing units? Isn’t it the job of the real estate developers to decide what people will buy and build it? And did you notice that refrigerator? In a drawer!!!One of those miniature refrigerators that fit under counters would be too big for that apartment. The pot of lentils that’s in my refrigerator, right this minute, would never fit in that drawer-refrigerator. Look at all the expensive stuff you need for all this compact living!!!A composting trash can!!!

Three feet of headroom over your bed!!!If that condition existed in a prison, Amnesty International would have a fit.

Miranda Rose Smith on July 13, 2012 at 2:27 am

“I have a blender; I have a coffee pot.” Does that remind anyone of Cuba? Remember when Cubans were excited because they learned that the beneficent Castro was granting them a rice cooker? I’d love to see the high-income earning ABC anchors move into an “apartment” where dishes are washed in the shower. What a joke!!!!

Dina K on July 13, 2012 at 9:31 am

these apartments look “cozy” for a Ken & Barbie doll.

Steve Epps on July 13, 2012 at 10:20 am

I sit at my desk laughing at John’s comment “O the pain.. the pain..”

It brings back memories of my favorite TV show as a kid as I smoke my Montecristo cigar and drink my 32 oz. coke in my spacious office. I am sooo thankful I do not live in NYC!

Dr. Zachary Smith was a mean guy initially. But his loafers got very light when the show went to color TV.

PDMac60 on July 13, 2012 at 11:04 am

The man is certifiable!

herbster on July 13, 2012 at 11:13 am

Bloomberg is yet another reason why I thank G-d every day that my family and I no longer have to live in NYC. The moron thinks he’s qualified to dictate the lives of others but he and his city administration couldn’t even handle a blizzard competently (December 2010 – somebody apparently forgot to tell little Mikey that sometimes it snows in the northeast during the winter).

BTW: Debbie, it’s unfair to the great Jonathan Harris to compare Bloomberg to Dr. Smith 🙂
