I do live in a studio apartment….

But I hate it when billionaires tell the rest of us we can’t have a six bedroom home for our kids – well because it doesn’t fit in with their urban vision of the future.

What it has come down to is this: when liberals get to decide what you can drink and where you can get your get your health care, they can definitely get to decide where you can live.

The tyranny of good intentions knows no limits and sooner than later will expand to consume all of our freedoms until we have none left.

No one can say they weren’t warned. New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s megalomania proves it!

The article says 300 sq ft studio apartments for singles in New York City will cost $2000 a month to rent and would be amount to the size of half a subway car – and they are currently illegal under New York City construction code.

Ick! It makes my 600 sq ft studio apartment in a small town I rent for $500 a month look like a luxury mansion! I’d say Bloomberg’s “micro apartments” are overpriced for what people can get… even in one of the expensive cities to live in America!

Meanwhile, people on welfare will get 8A housing vouchers, allowing them to live in luxury housing having three to four or more bedrooms. (People are losing their homes in Montgomery County, Maryland, and the county subsidizes units in luxury apartments in downtown Bethesda, one of the wealthies communities in America).

Bloomberg’s idea sounds like he got it from the book, “1984.” The leaders will live in palatial, large carbon footprinted homes, and have vacation homes to boot, while the people live in tiny cubbie holes.

Of course, NYers always elect these liberals. Then, after their neighborhood is ruined by bad liberal policies, they move to Florida, Arizona, Maryland, and elsewhere and work to elect the kind of politicians that caused them to leave New York!!!!

Goldwater was fundamentally right. NY and much of the East Coast (and now West Coast) should have been sawed off the rest of the US.

The funny thing is Bloomberg once lived in a 600 sq ft studio for $120 month – and here he’s offering apartments half that size for roughly seventeen times the price – in inflation adjusted dollars! If I was a young professional, I would have to say that is extremely overpriced. Its a poor way to keep and retain young people beginning their careers in New York City.

Liberals always seem to come up with most impractical and expensive solutions to city housing problems – and this isn’t affordable! You couldn’t pay me enough to live in one of Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed micro apartments!

I notice the crux to one of the sheeple’s comments was that she has enough to “survive.” Is that all we want out of life – simply to survive?
There’s a fine line between tyranny and spartan living and Bloomie has clearly pole vaulted over it.
Freedom is paramount to enjoying life. As our freedoms continue to erode, I hope people will be smart enough to move to a state where their freedoms have not yet been stolen.
As more and more people do so, the states losing populations will lose electoral votes, become less significant politically.
Those who cannot afford to leave will be the ones requiring government aid to subsist paid for by the ultra-liberals who won’t leave – and they can have it.
I’ll keep my freedom, my comfortable house and my dishes out of my bathroom.

I used to live in a 450 sq. ft. apartment in DC, for which I paid $200 per month back in the late 1970s. My needs (and income) were modest, so it was OK at the time. I moved from there to a 1,000 sq. ft. coop, which I currently own. Much nicer. Room for my books, my many electronic toys, a real bed, even room to socialize with friends.

What’s not mentioned is the reason apartments are so small and so costly in NYC: rent control. There’s no free market that would allow developers to tear down smaller buildings to build larger with more capacity. So limited housing stock is divided up to meet market demand. Yet another liberal solution with unintended consequences.

And what fool decided it made sense to build in a refrigerator right next to a heat source (a convection microwave), as seen in that video?

According to today’s New York Post, the average rent for a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan is now $3,386 per month. One room apartments there average $2569 monthly. Even at these rates, apartments may be rented in as little as one hour after becoming available. I believe that one reason for these unconscionable rents, a reason no one ever mentions, is the large number of illegal aliens who live in New York – possibly half a million or more; this reduces the vacancy rate for rental units to near zero, making rentals unaffordable in better parts of the city. Yes, rent control and other factors come into play as well, but the presence of vast numbers of illegals is the proverbial gorilla in the room, completely ignored by Bloomberg, the press, and everyone else. Imagine how rents would be affected if even half of those residing in New York illegally would be deported. I estimate at least fifty thousand units would become available.

Repuke Texas Gov Rick Perry just slashed his states budget by $15 billion last year (Incl $5 bil Education & 3.1 bil Medicaid). But he saw fit to go overbudget with his $25 million Governor’s Mansion renovation. That includes 1-inch thick Longleaf wood floors!! So it’s not as if the renovation was frivolous or anything, right?

It brings back memories of my favorite TV show as a kid as I smoke my Montecristo cigar and drink my 32 oz. coke in my spacious office. I am sooo thankful I do not live in NYC!

Bloomberg is yet another reason why I thank G-d every day that my family and I no longer have to live in NYC. The moron thinks he’s qualified to dictate the lives of others but he and his city administration couldn’t even handle a blizzard competently (December 2010 – somebody apparently forgot to tell little Mikey that sometimes it snows in the northeast during the winter).

BTW: Debbie, it’s unfair to the great Jonathan Harris to compare Bloomberg to Dr. Smith 🙂
