Ultimate Racebaiter: Dem Congressman (Who Supports Occupy Grp) Lies About Being 1/2 Black to Get Votes
My favorite political story of the last week is that of Democrat U.S. Congressman Hansen Clarke of Detroit. He’s running to be my Congressman and–needless to say–won’t be getting my vote. He advocates the most wacky ideas and is an Occupy supporter and sympathizer. Far-left is a compliment for him. He’s off the deep end. Throughout his political career as a state legislator and now as a Congressman, he’s always maintained that he’s half-Black. His father, a Bangladeshi Muslim alien, was obviously Asian. But there is now a lot of doubt regarding whether or not he’s really half-Black. His mother’s death certificate was dug up by one of Clarke’s many opponents, and per years of rumors, it lists her as White.
Clarke claims his mother was a light-skinned Black woman and that pictures of her prove she’s Black. Problem is, he won’t produce any of said photos to back up that claim. Pony them up, dude. And he announced he won’t participate in any Democratic debates because of “race-baiting.” Um, when you claim your mother was Black to get Black votes, isn’t that “race-baiting”? He has one point in the “yes, my mama was Black” column: her first name was Thelma. On the other hand, back in the day–her day, Thelma was also a White name, and you can probably still find White Thelmas in the South. (My family’s Black maid was Velma, but she preferred us to call her, “Wilma.”) And, since her death was in 1976, that means she lived in the Detroit-area suburb of Southfield at a time when few Blacks lived in the now-majority-Black city. For the record, I never really believed his half-Black claims. He has no physically Black characteristics at all. He looks like a half-Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi, half-White person. And he’s one of these neo-hippie schmucks who had a ponytail for almost his entire career in the State Legislature and wouldn’t wear a tie. I even heard that this bozo claimed to be part American Indian, too, as an excuse for that.
Clarke’s bizarre story stretches to the point that he married his wife, Choi Palms-Cohen, during a drunken night in Vegas, after they’d only been friends and never even kissed before. He’s a convert to Roman Catholicism from Islam (but he gets a ton of campaign contributions from extremist Muslims in the Detroit-area Bangladeshi community and does their bidding), and she was adopted and raised by a Jewish family. While he began high school in the dregs of Detroit, he spent most of his high school career at a fancy Massachusetts prep boarding school for rich White kids, from which he graduated. And now he’s learning a lesson: if you live by he fake Blackness, you will die by the fake Blackness. Faking his race is how he got everywhere in life.
I couldn’t care less what race Hansen Clarke is. My favorite elected official, Allen West, is far darker in complexion than Clarke and most others, and I wish he were President, instead of the two lousy choices we’ll have in November. I do know, though, that Clarke is a wacko, that his views are radical, and that he’s a liar and a fraud. He probably lied to get affirmative action admission into the Ivy League’s Cornell University. He also probably lied to get affirmative action admission to Georgetown University Law School. (You know he checked that box on his college and grad school applications and got away with it.) He definitely lied to get elected to the Michigan Legislature from Detroit. And he did it again to run against–and beat–deposed former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s mother, Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick. And even though he’s nutty, he was a welcome improvement over her. But not welcome enough to stay in office, now that his new district is more moderate and is a gerrymandered stretch from the dregs of Detroit to the dregs of Pontiac, with White, wealthy suburbs in the mix. Whoever wins the 14th Congressional District will now represent a hodge-podge of disparate ethnic and racial groups without common interests or lifestyles, not to mention politics. And it will be a Democrat, carefully drawn by the Michigan GOP that way.
But that’s the way it is in Detroit: race matters. It’s the ONLY thing that matters. Your competence and qualifications are irrelevant. The people in the city and most Black voters elsewhere vote based solely on race. THEY are the racists. And it’s why nothing in Detroit ever gets done, and when something is “done,” it’s in the manner of a banana republic run by complete morons and ethnocentrics. As you know, it’s also how Obama got over 90% of the Black vote. It’s silly and ridiculous. And baiting that won’t work anymore for Hansen Clarke.
Now, the competition is steep and White voters are in the mix. He’s running against extremely pro-Israel, White Democrat Gary Peters, who will probably win. And the Black vote will likely be split between Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence (whose supporter dug up the death certificate, but she claims she has “nooooothing” to do with it!) and Mary Waters, a former State Representative. And for those who still believe he’s Black, Hansen Hashim Clarke. The Black Slate, a powerful Black endorsement group, isn’t stupid. It endorsed the White Gary Peters, because he’s the likely winner. A more radical Black group, the Fannie Lou Hamer PAC, just endorsed Clarke and bought his phony Blackness act.
I am waiting on the Official Blackness Kosher Seal of Approval from Clarke’s fellow race baiters Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. But, until then, the irony is thick.
Now, after years of Hansen Clarke–who changed his name from Molik Hashim–lying and race-baiting his phony Blackness, he’s a hypocrite in his faux-outrage and claims that he’s the “victim” of race-baiting. He’s only one thing: the perpetrator.
Pot. Kettle. (Not Half-)Black.
