IRONY: Obama’s “First White House Seder” Not Kosher

By Debbie Schlussel
Last week, I told you about Barack Hussein Obama’s plans to hold the first ever White House Passover Seder. I called it what it was: a stunt and a Jewish minstrel show. I noted that it was an exercise in hypocrisy and a mockery, given that the man who is leading the charge to hang with Islamic terrorists and enemies of the Jewish people was going to host a ceremony marking Jewish freedom from slavery.
Well, it gets even more hypocritical. As I describe on this site every year, one of the most important elements of Passover is to eat food that is not only kosher, but kosher for Passover. This means no leavened breads, no flour (except in certain limited circumstances, as in matzoh, where it is not allowed to rise and only bakes for 18 minutes), no corn or corn products, rice, beans, peas, stringbeans, and similar other restrictions. It’s very restrictive, but it’s a basic part of the Seder.
But not Obama’s stunt show seder.
In fact, as more proof it was a stunt, the Obama White House Seder was completely the opposite. Not only wasn’t it kosher for Passover. It wasn’t kosher, period. Do you think Obama would serve Muslims food that wasn’t halal when he hosts Ramadan iftar dinners? Don’t bet on it. He has far more respect when it comes to that religion. Bush White House iftar dinners were 100% halal.

Reports say the food at the Pharaoh-Bama Seder was “kosher style,” which means not kosher. Whenever you see a deli or restaurant that says “kosher style,” it’s a misnomer. There is really no such thing as kosher style. Something is either kosher or it isn’t. “Kosher style” is a euphemism for “Jewish ethnic food.” So, at the Obama minstrel seder, they ate Jewish style food, which wasn’t even kosher.
Yup, Obama’s Seder wasn’t kosher. The irony speaks volumes.
Look at the pic of the seder. Daughters Sasha and Malia sat at the table.
Huh? We’re not even Jewish, and we still have to sit through this? Don’t these Jewboys know that our daddy has been talking to HAMAS for months?
Of course, the point of the Obama administration is all symbolism and no substance, just like the Seder that wasn’t kosher.
The Democrats are already pimping this stunt on Jews:

“By hosting the first presidential Seder in America’s history, President Barack Obama shows the personal and deep relationship he has with the Jewish community,” [National Jewish Democratic Council] Deputy Executive Director Alexis C. Rice told the Associated Press. “There is no question, Obama is a true friend of the Jewish community.”

Um, yes there is. There are plenty of questions. And one stunt meal won’t change a thing. It’s just lipstick on a(n unkosher) pig.

What one can eat and drink on Passover is very limited. Obama thinks he respected Jews with the joke of a seder observance. Sadly, most American Jews are too dense to appreciate the insult. As long as Jews can be bought off by empty symbolism, they will ignore the real harm is Administration is inflicting upon Israel. Such is the silence in the American Jewish community, that you can hear a pin drop in a White House Passover theater that signified nothing.

I find it especially ironic that the two house Jews (Emanuel and Axelrod) were not even there.

Spot On! The word poseur comes to mind. Thinking, speaking and writing plainly about Obama can’t help but yield your observations. There is one little matter with which I can dispute. The Sephardi Minhag [DS: CUSTOM FOR JEWS OF ORIENTAL/ASIAN/SPANISH ORIGIN] does allow the use of corn and rice during the Pesach. Thanks for taking the time to explain the Passover basics. (BIE: YOU ARE CORRECT. MY APOLOGIES FOR NOT INCLUDING SEPHARDIC JEWS [ORIENTAL/ASIAN/SPANISH JEWS] IN MY COMMENTS. DS]

But I understand the shrimp cocktail was to die for!

Was there a whole Honeybaked Ham on the buffet- or did he just go for the 1/2 size?

The White House “Seder” was an insult to all Jews. I read that last year Obama had a “Seder” and instead of saying “Next year in Jerusalem” they said ” Next year in the White House”.
P.S. This is my first comment. Congrats on the site.
[PM: HILARIOUS. AS I WAS READING YOUR COMMENT, I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA SAY HE SAID, “NEXT YEAR IN HAMASASTAN.” PERISH THE THOUGHT. DS]

On close inspection of the WH Seder photo some have noted that Obama’s Haggadah is open to one page others have it open to different page… This seder was just a photo op for him – or maybe he can only read from a teleprompter.
(Have I mentioned “Theresienstadt”? Look it up folks! Hopefully, this madness will not go that far!)

Were there no orthodox Jews at the Seder? If so, did they know they were eating non Kosher foods?

KrazyKafir on April 14, 2009 at 11:32 am

All I can wonder is if the pro-choice Obamas et al at the table had the gall to say something like “L’chayim” ?
I find the idea of anyone “hosting” a Seder who isn’t themselves Jewish offensive, because in almost any case it seems patronizing at best, and condescendingly insincere at worst- especially knowing how intricate, and deep the holiday customs are.
My family is “old country” Polish- staunch Cathlics, where Easter and not Christmas is *the* big holiday in the church calendar for us. We observe customs that go back traditionally to Europe in terms of foods and practices- none of which involve the “easter bunny”. I know it would seem very “inappropriate” to me, if someone who wasn’t a Christian were to host an Easter dinner for us,and make me wonder what their motive was.
While it’s certainly a sign of respect, proper consideration and proper appraciation to sincerely wish the Jewish people a happy and blessed Passover, if you yourself are not Jewish, this is obviously the worst form of pandering to a photo-op.

You don’t say exactly which non kosher items were present. What traif or chometz was served? This would enhance the article and let us know if this was a minor oversight, or a complete insensitivity.
[PB: ALL OF IT WAS “KOSHER STYLE,” WHICH MEANS NONE OF IT WAS KOSHER AND IT CERTAINLY WASN’T KOSHER FOR PASSOVER OR SUITABLE FOR A SEDER. DS]

PapaBear on April 14, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Oy! And if he HADN’T agreed to host the seder you’d be criticizing him for that, too. It’s clear that even if this President personally parachuted into Gaza and rescued Gilad Shalit singlehandedly; used a prime-time address to expound upon the finer points of the Hillel / Shamai debates; publicly kissed Netanyahu on the lips and, in perfect Hebrew, endorsed all of Bibi’s policies — you’d still find fault with him. Whatever. The crazy predictions of the “Obama hates Israel and the Jews” crowd have been proven laughable, his approval ratings are incredibly high, and the ever-shrinking angry opposition can rant all it likes, to no effect. I nevertheless wish you a chag sameach veh kasher!

once again we have elected a president who prefers symbolism over substance.
this one has a non-kosher seder while excluding jewish members of his staff.
president horndog would take a poll as to where he should go on vacation.
president peanut made sure he was photographed carrying his own (empty) garment bag onto air force one to show he was still a man of the people.
does it surprise anyone that all these men had a “d” by their name?
and 45, i believe debbie is merely pointing out one more foible of a president whose first phone call as president was to some tinpot dictator in gazastan. and if the president truly would support the leader of one of two “democracies” in the middle east, instead of a group of murderers who consider it a badge of honor to kill innocents, i would be one of the happiest goyim on the block.

I wonder why Reverend Wright wasn’t invited?

Michael on April 14, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Debbie, Hag Samech to you…whoo hoo two more days ! I love Pesach!
My question is…I thought I read Michelle has some family members who were Orthodox. I can’t imagine them coming. Before we were Kosher, my Kosher brother and wife would discreetly bring their foods. (Reason it was hard is that the kosher meat is just so expensive and we live 40 miles from closest Kosher market.) Still is hard so I try to do a bunch of vegetarian/chicken things. We are strict Kosher for Pesach down to the corn syrup thing. Don’t you wish food all year was made without it!?

Debbiee,,,Debbie,,, Debbie,,,

Regardless if this “kosher style” meal was a mistake or was done on purpose, why did you have to put muslims in the middle??

Its muslims and jews that think like you who make this world a crazy place.

Terrorism comes in many forms, and you are a verbal terrorist Debbie. I personally know at least 2 jewish icons that are shocked at the amount of bitterness, hate, and shallowness in your posts. Keep up the good work debbie, what a way to be living your life.
