Guess the Religion: Turkish Muslim Steals Cessna, Flies it to U.S.; Testing the System

By Debbie Schlussel
You’ve probably heard about the case of Yavuz Berke a/k/a Adam Leon, a Turkish-born Muslim who stole a Cessna from a Canadian flight school yesterday and flew it here to America, where he was arrested.
This isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last, post-9/11, that a Muslim or Arab with bad intentions, stole a light aircraft in North America and flew it in the U.S.
As you’ll recall, not long after 9/11, Tampa, Florida teen Charles Bishop (real surname: Bishara) stole a light plane from flight school and deliberately crashed it into a Tampa office building. He was headed in the direction of CENTCOM, which is not far from the area. He left a note, which authorities held until after the Superbowl. In the note he said that Osama Bin Laden was going to target the Superbowl. Bishop-Bishara was half Syrian, living with his mother, and it was believed he was trying to reconnect with his Arabic roots.

Turkish Muslim Yavuz Berke Stole Cessna, Flew to U.S.

But despite all that, Bishop-Bishara’s family blamed the incident on the acne drug Accutane and his alleged psychological state. Leaving strange notes and blaming it on the psyche–that’s the usual dismissive tone we see with regard to Muslims and Mid-Easterners who seek to do us harm. Gee, they have such a high incidence of “mental problems,” just as they’re trying to kill us.
Fortunately, Berke landed and was finally arrested before he did any real harm, but he certainly had the opportunity to do so.

A pilot who allegedly stole a Cessna plane from a Canadian flight school and was pursued for hours across the Midwest by fighter jets, was taken into custody after he landed on a Missouri highway late today and took off running, an FBI spokesman said.
The pilot landed the single engine Cessna 172 on U.S. Highway 60 in Ellsinore, Mo., at approximately 9:50 p.m. ET, and was caught by Missouri State Highway Patrol officers, FBI spokesman Rich Kolko said.
The pilot was identified as Yavuz Berke, formerly known as Adam Leon, a 31-year-old naturalized Canadian citizen who was born in Turkey, Kolko said.
The plane had been escorted by two F-16 fighter jets since shortly after it crossed into U.S. airspace from Canada, and the pilot did not respond to multiple requests that he establish communications with ground controllers.
Burke was apparently treated for depression last Friday and left his girlfriend a good-bye note, Canadian officials told the U.S. government. Berke’s vehicle was left at the airport in Canada with the keys still in it.
A Customs and Border Protection aircraft also closely monitoring the Cessna. . . .
“Apparently, somebody jumped over the fence and just jumped into an aircraft,” Judi Maundrell, the college’s vice president of academics and student services, told the Thunder Bay News Source. “It was sitting as usual parked on the ramp. They keys are in all the aircrafts because students are using them.”

Wow, great security there.

NORAD spokesman Michael Kucharek said the F-16 pilots had made visual contact with the pilot and knew that the person flying the Cessna was aware that the F-16s were there. He was “unresponsive to their non-verbal directions and … not in contact with the FAA controllers,” Kucharek said.

Authorities are claiming there was no bad intent here because Berke passed over highly populated areas and did nothing to them. Well, so what? He’s just testing the system for the real thing.
It’s ironic, isn’t it, that while Barack Hussein Obama was busy pandering to Muslims over in Turkey, one of their countrymen and co-religionists is testing our security in the skies over here.
This isn’t just an incident of an insane individual. It’s far more.

I doubt that his religion or country of origin had anything to do with what happened. You should have also bolded the sentence that said:
“Burke was apparently treated for depression last Friday and left his girlfriend a good-bye note”
He was suffering from mental illness, something that affects all human beings, even Americans. And all human beings are capable of anything, it does not depend on their country of origin or religion.

Also, it should be noted that NORAD and the National Guard did an amazing job at handling the situation, no one got hurt.
If anything, Confederation College will learn not to leave the keys of their aircrafts in the ignition. Probably what bothers me the most is that they made of of their students sign non-disclosure agreements that they would not speak to the media, or else be kicked out of the program.

Fortunately, Berke was grounded and arrested before he could do any real harm.
This isn’t a true statement. Berke was not grounded, after being trailed by F-16’s for some 5 hours and no communication with the chase planes or the ground, he landed the Cessna because he was running out of fuel. As for being arrested before he could do any real harm, he was drinking Gatorade in a convenience store and the clerk called authorities on him. Sounds to me like he had plenty of time to do real harm if he so wished.
[R: YOU’RE CORRECT. I SHOULD HAVE SAID “LANDED.” CORRECTED. DS]

Isn’t Friday “Rage at the Mosque Day”? No wonder, he was treated for depression!!! I hope the authorities find out what the real motive is. I definitely don’t buy it.

HOW DID this stolen Cessna get 412 miles BEFORE somebody forced it down!
That flight school has created an international incident through negligent overseeing of their aircraft. An aircraft can easily become a devastating weapon. Charge the operators. Now!
That particular aircraft could be landed virtually anywhere you have 500 feet of roadway and could be loaded up with 500 lbs of anything and take off in another 1000.
Did the flight school tell anybody, right away about their missing aircraft? Where was the Canadian Air Force??
And why was the aircraft allowed to go deep into American airspace? 300 miles!! What, so the unidentified pilot could cause a further disruption of state affairs by forcing the evacing of the state Capitol building in Madison??
My political party would never have allowed that.
This link ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3cELtdVIrY ) is dedicated to EVERYBODY WHO CO-OPERATED in making this a dragged out and retarded eventÖand making it as disruptive as possible to everyone along the rogue pilot’s flight path.
Why was any chance taken? The F-16 pilots had visual. Obviously, he was of Middle-East origin.
Hail the pilot just as the fighter pilots attempted. But next time cut the engagement time down! Fire past the aircraft as a warning, wait for signs of complianceÖAND THEN shoot her down for non-compliance.

Being treated for depression, does not make you mentally ill. Half of the country is on some form of anti-depressant. Being depressed is also not an excuse to break the law. Grow up and get real.

Even if this were not a dry run, which I think it is, it certainly sends an encouraging message to those who would do us harm.

Now imagine if one of the Muslim terrorists flew a Cessna into a high-rise in a major U.S. city few months before September 11, 2001 just for practicing, do you think the U.S. government would’ve ever thought about the real motive, or it will find an excuse for him just to escape a potential accusation of being discriminatory, bigot by targeting an innocent Muslim who happened to have “some engine problems” or “was mentally distressed?”
September 11, 2001 would’ve happened anyway because, as I often say, we are a nation of cowards, of morons, of globalists who don’t give a damn anymore about America. We care about how the world think of us, and we want to make everybody FEEL good.
We became, since the Clinton era, a nation of zombies.

*”Apparently, somebody jumped over the fence and just jumped into an aircraft,” Judi Maundrell, the college’s vice president of academics and student services, told the Thunder Bay News Source. “It was sitting as usual parked on the ramp. That is way too much of a coincidence–the keys are in the aircraft, and the Muslim knows exactly where to jump the fence to get into this plane with the keys already in it. AND the Muslim knows how to fly it. It seems well planned out with a lot of accomplices.
Also, I’m so tired of naive conservatives, like Ed Morrissey at Hot Air, who immediately accept the incredible assertion that this is simply an insane individual. The guy sounds very sane to me. How many crazy people jump fences into airplanes with keys already in them and then know how to fly them expertly?
[G: ED MORRISSEY IS COMPLETELY NAIVE AND IGNORANT ON ISLAM, JIHAD, AND MANY, MANY OTHER TOPICS. PLUS, HE’S PALS WITH PAN-ISLAMIST GROVER NORQUIST. DS]

This is not the only type of attempt to test the system. It has not been widely reported, but there have been several attempts by airline passengers to charge cockpit doors.

i_am_me on April 7, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Too bad those fighter pilots didn’t clear up his acne with a few well placed shots. Hitting the ground doing about 150 mph would have taken care of his pesky problem…for good.

Southernops on April 7, 2009 at 3:23 pm

My questions: was he member of Islamist organization. Did he frequent jihadist web sites? Was he ever member of Muslim Student Association? Did he attend a “radical” mosque, ie one which has produced terrorists in the past? Did he associate with terrorists or terrorist supporters, either in Canada or abroad? Does he have a criminal record?
Also, where did he learn to fly? Does he know how to fly jets or just small planes? Lots of questions which, undoubtedly, will never be asked or answered by MSM or psuedo-conservative blogsphere (ie, Ed Morrissy and (shhhh!) Muslim Grover Norquist).

sonomaca on April 7, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Uh yeah guys, you do realize they had no idea who this guy was untill he landed. It’s not like NORAD has some kind of muslim detecting radar. All they knew was that somebody was flying around in a Cesna, not exactly the world’s most threatening aircraft. Shooting it down with a missle would have been riskier then just following him around.

Bob on April 7, 2009 at 4:26 pm

Uh duh Bob…Its not like NORAD new who this guy was!! Thats the whole point moron! Nobody knew who this guy was or what his intentions were. He refused-I repeat for the pea brains, HE REFUSED to acknowledge air traffic control in several states. I guess it does take a rocket scientist to say gee, their’s a cesna flying around the US airspace without a flight plan, not responding to air traffic control, we don’t know if the plane is loaded with explosives, biological chemicals, so lets just follow him around as he flys through several states.
Oh and for the idiot up above thread who claims he was just depressed…nice, I’m sure that’s the same excuse you used to validate the Muslims who slaughtered 3,000 Americans on 9/11.

wolf2012 on April 7, 2009 at 6:41 pm

Wow, you guys are so piss-your-pants paranoid you actually get this worked up over a freaking CESNA. Hey maybe he was carrying a dirty bomb, in which case blowing him up would have been a really bad idea.

Bob on April 7, 2009 at 7:48 pm

What was his flying altitude? If he had set off an electromagnetic pulse bomb, how much of the U.S. would have been effected? Now a bunch of terrorists know that they can fly anywhere in the nation they want without permission or hassle.

Linda Bormann on April 7, 2009 at 8:43 pm

When I first heard of the flight, I immediately wondered if the pilot was Muslim. No news story I heard identified this man as Muslim. They simply stressed he was ‘mentally ill’ and wanted the F-16’s to shoot him down (which I have said from the beginning is,’Why didn’t they?’.
The news did mention he was an immigrant from Turkey and then showed his pic. Still no ‘M’ word. I must be a paranoid racist…
Here I am thinking this poor man in his ‘suicide attempt’ was a terrorist.

RobitJ on April 8, 2009 at 7:20 am

Well boys and girls here we go again. Somewhat strange the April 7, 2009 editions of my two major newspapers ran zip, zero, nada followup on the poor fellow, who somehow lost his way in and his mind, while expertly piloting his stolen Cessna into U.S. airspace. Now if he would have had for example, a I love Ron Paul button pinned to his shorts, the N.Y. Times would have an editorial today supporting the death penalty. This incident amongst many, just illustrates how we are getting gamed in this country by the First Amendment preaching Press and their ilk. This incident and its handling is absolutely unacceptable and absurd. Dig in deep folks, before you wish you had.

mcgoofy13 on April 8, 2009 at 11:38 am

Hey
You none did get it.
He is a nice guy, who loves America, and wanted to see it from above and then die.
And the sadest of all he couldn’t accomplish his last wish, becauase…America again shreded a dream and they didn’t help him to die.
Can somebody help him to die. May be Alah can work it out.
