Gardasil Paralyzes & Kills: Yet Another Reason Not to Give Your Daughter the “Go Have Sex” Vaccine

By Debbie Schlussel
If you’re like me, you’re tired of seeing the annoying commercials showing teen girls proclaiming, “I want to be one less,” and singing the praises of Gardasil, the vaccine against a strain of cervical cancer that can only be passed on through sexual intercourse via HPV.
And if you’re like me, you’re also disgusted at the zeal with which state legislatures around the country have responded to fat cat Merck lobbyists by passing laws requiring young public school girls (as young as nine) to be vaccinated with Gardasil, a license to go have sex without worrying about a deadly consequence.
Now, though, as U.S. News and World Report notes, the “I want to be one less” ads sound even more ridiculous because at least two girls vaccinated with the drug have contracted ALS a/k/a “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” from it and died. And others have been paralyzed from it.

gardasil.jpg

Given this information, when you vaccinate your daughter with Gardasil you have chosen to vaccinate her against only one of very many diseases she might get from having sex versus complete paralysis and death even though she might not have sex.

Phil Tetlock and Barbara Mellers were in a race against time to save their 15-year-old daughter, Jenny. . . . Jenny developed a degenerative muscle disease nearly two years ago, soon after being vaccinated against the cervical-cancer-causing HPV. She became nearly completely paralyzed. . . .
Phil . . . had been holding out hope that they would be able to find a cure for his daughter–or to at least determine if the human papillomavirus vaccine called Gardasil had caused his daughter’s illness, most likely a juvenile form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease). Sadly, the clock ran out last Sunday, and Jenny passed away.
Through their efforts to publicize Jenny’s case on their blog, Jenny’s parents have connected with two other sets of parents whose daughters developed what appears to be ALS after being injected with Gardasil. One was 22-year-old Whitney Baird, who died last August, just 13 months after receiving Gardasil. Another is Alicia Olund, a 12-year-old who began having trouble walking after getting her third shot last September. She now uses leg braces and a walker at home as her muscles continue to deteriorate. After ruling out other conditions, her specialists at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center–who also treated Jenny–suspect that Alicia may have the same condition. “They don’t know what she has,” her mother, Barbara, tells me through tears, “but it’s destroying her nerves and muscles, and none of the treatments they’ve given her are working. Before the vaccine, she was a perfectly healthy child, going for her brown belt in karate.” (They’re awaiting the results of the ALS test.) . . .
Reports of adverse events for Gardasil are about five times as high as the overall average for any vaccine, [John Iskander, the CDC’s associate director for immunization safety] adds. . . .
“They are aware of these cases and that we’ve started discussions with neurologists and immunologists to determine if there are mechanisms that could explain how a vaccine could cause ALS,” Iskander says, adding that “I haven’t heard a good answer yet from these experts” when it comes to explaining a mechanism.
Shapiro says her suspicions are raised enough that she’s decided not to give her own 11-year-old daughter the Gardasil vaccine. “Let’s say it causes just one or two cases of ALS every year out of a million doses that are given. What if your daughter is the one?”

Yes, what if? Do you really want to take that chance with your daughter’s life?
Hmmm . . . maybe those girls in the Gardasil commercial need to say, “I want to be one less . . . of the walking living.” At least, that would be truth in advertising.

This is another example of liberals idiotically adopting “feel good” policies with scant regard for the consequences. If I ever feel blessed to have a daughter, I’d keep her away from Gardasil – and not just because the Merck commercials are downright puerile!

NormanF on March 24, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Or you can look at the stats for how many women have died from cervical cancer over the years and how many cases that Gardasil has protected against.
I think you phrase this article so harshly with your obviously biased opinions calling it the “go have sex” vaccine has completely discredited your entire article for me.
Many vaccines have had crazy side-effects and unfortunately people get sick and die from different medications all the time.
I just wish this had been available for me when I was younger. Unfortunately in my case it was already too late. I was infected with strains of the HPV virus when I was 17 years-old. The vaccine would not have stopped me from having sex. I think continued sex education is extremely important. But let’s face it…most teens experiment with drugs and alcohol and sex… you can try and stop them, but most likely that is a failed effort. Instead why don’t you focus on educating them to be safe and honest with you and encourage them to wait. But I would have my daughter get this in a heartbeat…and I love her.
[R: YOU HAVE NEVER EVER BEFORE COMMENTED ON THIS SITE. ARE YOU A PAID GARDASIL DEFENDER ON THE MERCK PAYROLL? I’M NOT ASKING THAT IN JEST. WE KNOW THAT COMPANIES LIKE MERCK HAVE THE BIG BUCKS TO HIRE PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO DEFEND THEIR PRODUCTS ON BLOGS, ETC. IT MAKES ME WONDER HOW YOU HAPPENED UPON THIS SITE IF YOU ARE NOT DOING THIS AT THE PAID, SUB ROSA BEHEST OF MERCK. DS

The women’s right to “choice” has always been about women’s right to be a whore. They wanted sexual equality. They said men can have casual sex and not have the consequence of pregnancy. So they want the same empowerment. “If men can whore around so can we, pregnancy be damned!!”
Religious women of faith understand the role of motherhood and womanhood. Therefore the concept of killing your baby is foreign. They understand the repurcusion of casual sex with multiple partners. Again Debbie you are right again. I have seen these commercials all with the liberal tinge of “everyone is doing it so it must be ok” attitude.
The problem with women in society is they are coddled to have little girl brains in full grown bodies (i.e. Britney, Paris). Other girls in society see all this “airhead-ism” being rewarded so they emulate this selfish behavior. Unfortunately without developing their mind or their morality these women then are taken in by manipulative men who then get them pregnant and they in-turn cope with it by having an abortion or are abandoned. Corporations have turned women in consumption machines that spend every dollar a tells them they are the queen of the world. Similarly corporations tell men they are big shots with inflated egos and when things go bad they end up abandoning the women they seduced.
I always get a kick when these airhead women talk about how unsophisticated immigrant women are by “having all these chidren” and the airhead women has had multiple abortions and the immigrant has no concept of this evil.

I must have the wrong plumbing… and that disqualifies me from having a view about a vaccine that has a dangerous side effect and no Rennea, not all of us teen boys slept with girls or got them pregnant or far worse! I don’t believe in the “anything goes” mindset these days and its not OK for teens to have sex and a vaccine like Gardasil can lead teen girls and parents into a dangerous sense of security. I’m no longer a teen but with growing up comes taking responsibility for your own life. A drug company can’t give that to your female child… not even one that touts “I want to be one less.” Its not worth the risk.

NormanF on March 24, 2009 at 4:39 pm

Wow… “and no Rennea, not all of us teen boys slept with girls and got them pregnant or far worse!” Hmm, nowhere in my comment did I say this, I merely stated that a lot of teens do… did I say it was okay to have sex when your young? Absolutely not, but taking a step to protect yourself in the future and promoting sexual education is of the utmost importance. Don’t assume that people are naive enough to not understand that this is not the purpose of a vaccine like this.
“Gardasil can lead teen girls and parents into a dangerous sense of security” Um, not when you are educated about all the other horrible STI’s you can get through unsafe sex. Again you are assuming that people are uneducated and lacking of any morals…which is not usually the case. EDUCATION!!!!!
I work in the sexual health field and educate people about STI’s… I do not encourage young people to have sex – but that doesn’t mean that they should be in the dark about it either… It is absolutely ridiculous to think that getting a shot to protect you against cervical cancer leads teens to thinking its okay to have sex and that they are safe from any other disease…absolutely ridiculous.

Rennea on March 24, 2009 at 4:56 pm

This is from my mother, a medical field professional.
Back in the Day, when our Grandmothers were still being taught morals, mothers did not have to worry about their daughters being infected with the HPV virus. For us frustrated Judeo-Christian grandmothers, those laws given to us through Moses, have been all but eliminated from todayís educated and youth, as they have been taught they are to be considered bizarre and antiquated. My Mother and Grandmother, Blessed Be, taught me all those antiquated laws. Sadly todayís young women donít have to listen to all that antiquated mumbo jumbo. You have arrived ladies. We get to enjoy the NOW generation. I am one of those dumb antiquated women, who due to NOW, spent the that 40 years working as either a professional nurse or working the last 24 years in Social Service Agencies, saw what that NOW liberated lifestyle has given women. Back in my day, maybe within the past 15 yrs, I read articles both in the New England Medical Journal but also in my own Professional Nursing Journals, articles written by scientist reporting the increase of sexual transmitted diseases. Debbie as an orthodox Jew, most likely will understand what those antiquated laws really mean, that werenít written for the benefit of the Creator, but they were meant for the prevention of disease for us as we live in this imperfect world. We of the senior generation were taught morals to protect ourselves from those sexual transmitted diseases. My examples that I gave to my daughter was based on medical reports I had read. Those medical reports, I had access to, were based on studies of women who had lived lifestyles of multiple sex partners, with results that show a higher incidence of infertility, cancer of the cervix, and spontaneous abortion, in women who have enjoyed a lifestyle of liberated sex.
Our perfect bodies were initially given a system which has a built in autoimmune system, specifically designed to prevent the rejection of the (male) sperm, for gestational purposes (to get pregnant). With the Glorious day of liberation, todayís womenís natural built in autoimmune system, has been repeatedly altered, as she engages in unprotected sex with multiple partners. So, due to the constant change in partners, ladies, your risk for HPV virus and cancer of the cervix rises accordingly.
Tragically those medical articles were not considered worth taking action on by the general public. The Womanís movement liberated the ladies, with the added benefit of tax dollars. Within a very short time period, we literally doubled the numbers of taxpayers paying into the Social Security System. This information was published by the Social Security Adm., for a report given to congress back in the 70ís. Today, I can say praise be, we are a nation with TORT attorney at law, on every street corner. I hope they go after the manufacturer of this drug with all the heavy arsenal they have at their disposal. Nothing else seems to work.

wolf2012 on March 24, 2009 at 4:59 pm

It is incredible — every time Debbie writes on a unique topic, some brand new, previously unheralded contributer vocally condemns her position, and defends the product under conssideration, just as though she were (or was, since this is not necessarily a condition contrary to fact) on their payroll.
The arguments used in favor of this vacine are just like the arguments for any other new medical cure-all that has not yet been sufficiently tested — people are going to do it anyway, the protection is greater than the side-effect, and so on.
The deception is staggering; who knows how great these side effects are, or over what period of time they may manifest themselves. Who has disclosed the length of the drug companies’ studies (sic); for all we know they stopped, or were cut short just before side effects would have manifested themselves.
Who knows how important this vacine is to Merck’s bottom line in these severe economic times? Who knows whether the FDA panels that approved this drug were stacked with doctors directly or indirectly benefitting from contributions from Merck? We know this was the case with Vioxx and many other drugs.
Unfortunately, with the dumbed-down state of the American population, specious arguments like those of “Rennea” are very influential in our population.
There have been books written about the deceptions of drug ‘testing’, the omissions, statistical deceptions and commissions of those doing and analyzing the testing. Anecdotal trash like the garbage of Rennea is only the topmost level of this deception.

c f on March 24, 2009 at 5:16 pm

I am not dumb, I am also aware of the marketing plots of these mega pharmaceutical companies… What I am arguing against is your view that this vaccine will cause teen girls to have unprotected sex without any concern for the consequences – that is a statement that is clearly narrow minded and based on your own moral ideals and delusions.
Thank you for putting my name in quotations.

Rennea on March 24, 2009 at 6:43 pm

And no, I am not paid by Merck…I am saying this off of my own defense of people who use comments like “a license to go have sex without worrying about a deadly consequence.” and “The women’s right to “choice” has always been about women’s right to be a whore”.

Rennea on March 24, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Oh and P.S. I was lead to this article on this site because I saw it on a twitter stream…

Rennea on March 24, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Rennea, undoubtably you probably had an abortion like 50% of American women, because you believe in “choice”. Like I tell all women who had an abortion “What was going to be the name of your child before you aborted err….murdered it?” But then again with the selfish abortion rights activists you will be more offended by your feeeeeeeeelings being hurt than by the heinous act ya’ll committed.
So influence a generation of children to have unprotected sex with multiple partners with every access to murder their unborn child so they won’t feel guilty that you in essence helped out to “whore out” a generation. I guess like KING HUSSEIN COBRAMA says, “But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at the age of 16.” That is the essence to diminish any consequences of childrens actions to further stunt their development. I believe what doesn’t kills you makes you stronger. We have become a weaker society that cant deal with bad news and tries to excuse any bad behavior. No wonder Islamic terrorists see us as weak, they know sooner or later liberalism will let them finish the job of America. The pro-abortion group has undermined America, religion and family with their propaganda.

Debbie, I’m sensing a little bit of Alex Jones in you. Conspiracy theories aside, he has spoken about the dangers of flu vaccines that have THE ACTUAL FLU IN IT as well as the Avian Flu and how the government FORCES people to have to take the flu shot…OR ELSE. I do not take the flu shot myself. Despite having some recent bouts of bronchitis, which my mom is currently suffering from, I haven’t had the flu in years (knock, knock).
I have heard Jones talk about this on his program online.
Look I have anxiety due to Autism and am a pawn for the drug companies by taking Sertroline..the generic of Zoloft…AND I HATE IT just like I hate being Autistic.

NEPatriot on March 24, 2009 at 7:58 pm

while it is a good idea to get a vaccination, I do think that it should be up to the family and NOT be mandatory-this is not the measles or mumps that are so contagious-leave this to the families.

mindy1 on March 24, 2009 at 8:23 pm

To California Screaming – you didn’t listen to anything I had to say, accused me of having an abortion…which I have NOT … as I said before I have a daughter… then you proceeded to call me a whore. Interesting. Apparently for supporting more extensive sexual education classes and warning kids about the dangers of unprotected sex that makes me a whore… really cute. That is a really intelligent opinion…no California Screaming, it’s not because of my “whore generation” … you just assume that because people don’t believe the same as your super conservative belief that they are unmoral people…well guess what? That makes me sad for you.

Rennea on March 24, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Isn’t it something of the same thing with the dangerous hepatitis B vaccine given to little children.
It’s called the child molestor’s vaccine because it helps prevent the child molestor from being discovered as he molests little kids.

Underzog on March 24, 2009 at 9:24 pm

Rennea, at the very least, you have poor reading comprehension skills. My comment about dumbing down referred to the population as a whole that, unfortunately, is likely to be susceptible to your arguments, not to you yourself. Although, after seeing your misunderstanding of my comments…
I have to give you and Merck credit however (if they are not paying you, you are being cheated). You have succeeded in turning around the entire discussion from Debbie’s emphasis on the likely health hazards of this vaccine to a discussion about morality. You and Merck, of course, both know that in a discussion like that, those in favor of sexual abstinence are bound to lose, especially with the government subsidizing illigetimate children, and unwholesome sexual habits.

c f on March 24, 2009 at 9:48 pm

I have six daughters and I will leave it up to them to decide for themselves if they want that particular vaccine someday. They’ve seen the commercials, we’ve talked about it (well, not my three year old). I made sure they understood that it’s not a cancer vaccine but for only some forms of a sexually transmitted disease.
I don’t know that the vaccine will encourage more sexual behavior. What worries me is the number of young women who will falsely believe they are protected from HPV and will forgo Pap exams because of it.
And of course I also worry about the side effects of the vaccine itself. I don’t want my daughters to be human guinea pigs.
And why aren’t they pushing men to get it? If all men were inoculated it could protect a broader group because men can pass HPV to other men causing anal cancer.
http://candyslice.com/index.php?s=gardasil
I’m not seriously suggesting that, just a rhetorical question.

Candy Slice on March 24, 2009 at 9:55 pm

Rennea, for who are you to teach children sex ed classes? That is up to parents. People in the Planned Parenthood sex ed movement are usurping family morals and Biblical teachings. Liberals and Hollywood are enabling young girls to become “whores”. Liberals have supported all this sex in schools garbage and it has utterly failed. Along with Hollywood polluting 3 generations so far, it is up to parents to say no to Hollywood. Corporations and Hollywood is the drug that gets the kids hooked on sexualization and the Planned Parenthood is there to make it go away. Dont feel sad for me, feel sad for all the murdered unborn children. Planned Parenthood and sex ed experts are against parental notification. You guys lie that parents will abuse their daughters. Using fear that daughters will resort to unlicensed abortion. Prop 4 lost in CA regarding parental notification because Planned Parenthood used this fear and young single people who have no concept of parenting told parents they should have no right to talk to their children before they get an abortion. There should be no sex ed in schools. I don’t have kids and I tell people to send their children to conservative private schools or home schools. The more children that aren’t influenced by you or Planned Parenthood, the better society is off. The solution to delusion is not more delusion. That is what abortion does. HPV vaccine is another delusion.

californiascreaming on March 24, 2009 at 9:59 pm

I went back and read my old blog posts about Gardisil from two years ago and realized that the old Gardisil campaign absolutely scared my daughter who was 8 at the time:
ìTell Someoneî campaign commercials made my eight-year-Old daughter believe she could get cancer from catching a cold virus – ìA cancer thatís caused by a virus? Why didnít I know about this?î

Candy Slice on March 24, 2009 at 10:15 pm

My daughter’s pediatrician told me point blank, do NOT get this. She knows that my family has values, and as such, my daughters will NOT be engaging in pre-marital sex. She told me that she is PISSED at these commercials, as they are causing people to ask for this drug when they do not need it for their daughters.
Smart doctors tell their patients to wait a while once a drug is approved to see the side effects. I begged my doctor for a RX once, and he refused. “I want to wait at least a year to see if there are any side effects that didn’t show up in the studies.” Let’s see … remember the drug that was given to premmies to prevent RSV? It turns out it causes an intestinal blockage. I can’t remember the others, but I know that there are at least two other drugs that were no longer recommended.
And I agree with Debbie. If a child feels that a certain shot will prevent a disease, they will see it as a license to do as they please. Look at what is going on with kids today … sexting, rainbow parties, and more. When the liberal left will wake up and discover they are killing their kids with their leftest views, maybe there will be some hope. Until then, moral people will teach their kids morality and prevent their daughters from getting stupid vaccines they don’t need.

Leah on March 24, 2009 at 11:19 pm

This is another “foot in the door” for pharmaceutical lobbyists, appealing to the “nanny state” mentality of the left to move toward legally mandating this vaccine for all young women and girls. The left whines about pro-choice, but when it comes to big government, big brother type regulation this product is really right up their alley. It’s getting to the point where moral decline has reached the tip-over point and I fear for what the values of the country will be like in as little as 4 more years.

Mistress_Dee on March 25, 2009 at 8:20 am

Debbie:
I agree generally with your sociological and moral analysis.
However, there are a couple of problems with this article. In the first place, it doesn’t seem to give any context for how many people received the vaccine, and how many suffered reactions following. If two million people were vaccinated, and two died, that is well below the statistical margin for many other live-virus vaccines. Second, as the article points out, juvinile ALS does happen in rare cases and may not be linked to the vaccine. There is a lot of hysteria, for example, about the supposed link between other vaccines and disorders like autism, but all the scientific evidence points to no link.

ibn Abu on March 25, 2009 at 9:33 am

I had read from a very credible source that in Canada there was 1,500 death’s associated with this vaccine. However I cannot find it now. But can share with you a smoking gun.
http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/sep/07092004.html
TORONTO, September 20, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – As Canada, in large part due to aggressive behind the scenes lobbying, rolls out the not-comprehensively-tested Merck HPV vaccine for girls as young as nine, a look at developments on the vaccine south of the border should cause Canadians serious concern. In the United States a similar lobby campaign by the same company launched the mass HPV vaccination of girls beginning in June last year.
In just little over a year, the HPV vaccine has been associated with at least five deaths, not to mention thousands of reports of adverse effects, hundreds deemed serious, and many that required hospitalization.
Judicial Watch, a U.S. government watchdog, became concerned while noting large donations to key politicians originating from Merck. A freedom of information request from the group in May of this year discovered that during the period from June 8, 2006 – when the vaccines received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – to May 2007 there were 1,637 reports of adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine reported to the FDA.
Three deaths were related to the vaccine, including one of a 12-year-old. One physician’s assistant reported that a female patient “died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine.” Two other reports, on girls 12 and 19, reported deaths relating to heart problems and/or blood clotting.
As of May 11, 2007, the 1,637 adverse vaccination reactions reported to the FDA via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) included 371 serious reactions. Of the 42 women who received the vaccine while pregnant, 18 experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormities.
Side effects published by Merck & Co. warn the public about potential pain, fever, nausea, dizziness and itching after receiving the vaccine. Indeed, 77% of the adverse reactions reported are typical side effects to vaccinations. But other more serious side effects reported include paralysis, Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and seizures.
Judicial Watch informed LifeSiteNews.com that a subsequent request for information on adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine, covering the period from May 2007 to September 2007, found that an additional 1800 adverse reactions have been reported, including more deaths. Exactly how many more deaths occurred will be released in the coming days, Judicial Watch’s Dee Grothe informed LifeSiteNews.com.
The LifeSiteNews.com report on the moneyed lobbying efforts of Merck in the U.S. was reported in February.
Deaths Associated with HPV Vaccine Start Rolling In, Over 3500 Adverse Affects Reported
(see http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/feb/07020204.html )
However the Canadian lobby effort by Merck’s Canadian affiliate Merck Frosst Canada has been underway using powerful lobbyists with close connections to the politicians who have signed off on massive government funded vaccination programs.
Deaths Associated with HPV Vaccine Start Rolling In, Over 3500 Adverse Affects Reported.
The Toronto Star recently reported that Merck Frosst Canada Ltd hired public relations giant Hill & Knowlton to push the immunization strategies using some well-connected lobbyists: Ken Boessenkool, a former senior policy adviser to Prime Minister Stephen Harper; Bob Lopinski, formerly with Premier Dalton McGuinty’s office; and Jason Grier, former chief of staff to Health Minister George Smitherman.

Johnny V on March 25, 2009 at 11:28 am

Going last to first…
Johnny V: Is there any stuff on this from a more neutral organization? They really didn’t put a lot on the methodology used to link incidents to the vaccine so it would be nice to see some independent verification.
Ibn Abu: I second that.
Leah: I wish your daughters all the best, but careful about drawing such an absolute line between “good people with values” and “those who have unprotected sex”. I’ve met many people who had perfectly fine values but for many reasons had unprotected sex at some point. One of my dearest friends contracted a viral STD through rape, others simply had a dark patch in their life where they id things they regret. On the whole though I agree that we need to be careful about rushing into new vaccines.
Candy Slice: That is adorable in a horrible sort of way.
California Screaming: People should not rely solely on their parents for knowledge about sex. The cornerstone of a liberal (in the Enlightenment sense o the word) democratic society is that people need to have access to information, especially information that is pertinent to how they live their lives. I agree 100% that parents should instill values in their children including deferring sexual gratification and a healthy respect for human life in all its forms, but at the same time individuals need to have access to actual facts, if or no other reason than to combat some of the me ridiculous folk remedies that are out there (you can’t get pregnant if the girl is on top, you don’t get STDs from anal penetration…. I’ve actually heard these from serious people!) and are sometimes passed down by well meaning but ill informed parents.
Candy Slice again: Why make it rhetorical? If this is an issue of herd immunity (that is the positive externalities of getting a vaccine warrant compelling people to get it) then men are part of the herd too and should be immunized. Otherwise, you can keep your hands off my uterus thank you very much.
Underzog: Please, for the love of God, tell me that you are not suggesting that we should let molested children contract potentially lethal STDs from their abusers so that we can find their abusers more easily.
Mindy1: Stop being reasonable! This is a blog!
Candy Slice yet again: Seriously. What is with all this reasonableness? I come here expecting flame wars of sluts versus Nazis! Stop all this talk about personal responsibility for one’s health and decisions!

FeynmanFanGirl on March 25, 2009 at 1:41 pm

FeynmanFanGirl, you liberals Just Dont Get It. Someone’s else’s family is NONE of your business. It doesn’t matter if they are giving them wrong information. Guess what? People get wrong information everyday. It is about RESPECTING the family unit. Liberals have no respect for families and try to legislate the parents from the child. Because churches and other religions of faith have a structure of the family unit, the liberals are upset. They want to demagogue people of faith to impose their selfish world view. They want to bust the tie that hold people of faith and their religion. All these problems aren’t new, religions have dealt with them in different ways and for centuries. Again it isn’t government’s business to legislate families to get information. Legislating that young girls take this HPV vaccine is sick. Other vaccines are because of communicable diseases and for the protection of society as a whole. If girls aren’t having sex then they won’t have to worry about HPV virus. Liberals have this pre-described outcome and want to legislate toward this outcome, the Constitution be damned. If parents want to come forward and take information no one has a problem. Our nation was built on freedom from government. Now we have Child Protective Services or nosey neighbors who feel it is their duty to invade into other families lives. I believe children are the domain of the parents. If a parent wants a child to learn all this sex ed in schools that is up to them. Schools should have to “opt in” sex ed classes, not have to “opt out”.

californiascreaming on March 25, 2009 at 2:51 pm

My daughter got this vaccine when she was 12. She’s a wonderful girl of 15 who plans on waiting until she is married to have sex. The reason I took her to get the vaccine at that time, was I thought it was only effective from 11 to 19 or something like that and protected from this HPV virus for a lifetime. I never thought I was condoning teen sex. I don’t see how it is a license to have sex. Also, someone could be a virgin on their marriage bed and still catch the virus from their husband if he had it. If I had read these possible side effects beforehand, I may not have taken her to get the vaccine. I read all the literature available at that time, and there was nothing like you describe. I am just thankful she didn’t get a reaction. And I don’t believe this should be mandatory. It isn’t, is it?
Her favorite book growing up was The Princess and the Kiss (I think that is the name of it) Absolutely wonderful for impressionable little girls.

A dangerous vaccine for children such as the hepatitis B vaccine just so molestors can molest kids undected?
I can’t countenance such a thing. If the molestors — say someone in the exentended family — knows he may be tracked down, he will be less likely to molest.

Debbie, I agree that making this vaccine mandatory is premature at best. On the other hand, if every vaccine were judged by its negative effects, we wouldn’t vaccinate anyone for anything. Of course nobody will ever be able to explain or prove any link here, as juvenile ALS is rarer than a hen’s tooth. Given the ratio of girls whoring around to girls with ALS, I think this one’s still a no brainer.

Underzog, the article in question raises quite a few valid points about the age of consent but I hope I’m still missing your point.
The argument seems to be that we should not vaccinate minors against HepB so that when they are sexually exploited the perpetrator risks being expose through contracting the violence. Is that accurate?
If it is, I still find the cost of this marking to be repugnant. It requires the sexually exploited minor to contract this life threatening illness illness (I almost typed lie… Freudian slip?). I guess I’ll always be more of a “save the innocent” than “punish the wicked” sort (although I hope we can o both), but marking child abusers at the expense of children is not a bargain I am willing to make.

AH! I meant contracting the disease! I is smart!

FeynmanFanGirl on March 26, 2009 at 12:07 am

You are missing the point. The hepatitis B vaccine is a dangerous vaccine for such little kids. Unless kids from one month to age seven are sex workers, there really is no need for the vaccine unless the mother has hepatitis B.
We are not here to help molestors avoid detection so they can molest more and more kids. Perhaps, are pro pervision culture disagrees, but I hope such a view is not held by most people.

Debbie, you’re right on… the perspective that a shot that has been recalled by every overseas first-world country’s health department is dangerous (at worst) and ineffective (at best) is lost on the dumb masses. Some brilliant folks think it’s a good idea to give the shot to boys now since the bad press is gaining momentum in the parents of daughters’ circles.
The greater issue is as you clearly and succinctly state; a behavioral issue is the causative agent for the spread of this disease not the HPV (which presence doesn’t always result in the cancer). Any OB/GYN worth their salt will tell you the physical contact with numerous and repeated various ‘genetic material’ from different partners is more likely to cause the cervical cancer with or without the presence of the HPV. Food for thought…. for those who actually think anymore.

My daughter, Victoria, has been ill since February 2008.
Here is some history. I will be as brief as possible. My daughter had her first Gardasil vaccination November 2007. Her second vaccination was in the beginning of February 2008. Immediately after her second vaccination, Victoria experienced severe diarrhea and was nauseous for about eight weeks. She had blood work done many times and doctors thought she had a virus. On March 31, 2008, she had her first seizure. My daughter has treated with many neurologists, all of whom have not related her seizures to Gardasil. Meanwhile, there are quite a few hundred people that I have found over the internet through my numerous postings and through Erin Brockovich, and their daughters are all experiencing the same symptoms, which occurred after the Gardasil vaccination. We have actually formed a group and share our daughters’ stories, symptoms and information. My daughter has had CT scans, MRI’s, MRA’s, EEG’s, blood work and was hospitalized at an epilepsy center in the video EEG monitoring unit for two separate weeks in May 2008 and September 2008. She was put on many different seizure medications. After the normal EEG results, she was taken off all medications. Her SED rate has always been high and she does have protein in her urine, but doctors do not seem concerned. I was told that her red blood are small, but this apparently is not concerning either.
My daughter has been seen by several neurologists, a psychiatrist, psychologist, several neuropsychologists, an immunologist, several infectious disease doctors, and also treated a at Wellness Center for a period of time. Wellness Center physicians believe that my daughter may have Lyme disease that was dormant until the Gardasil vaccine. Infectious disease doctors differ. Which doctors are correct? I have no idea.
My daughter currently experiences the following symptoms: non-epileptic seizures, migraines, fainting, tremors, twitches, numbness, intermittent leg paralysis and facial paralysis, tingling, staring or blank episodes, eye pain, joint pain, neck pain, back pain, memory loss, confusion, brain fog, regression, mood swings and chronic fatigue. She continues to have bouts of nausea and diarrhea. She has not been in school since April 2008. My daughter can never be left home alone. She can’t go to school, go out with her friends or work or has little “normalcy” in her life. She has very few good days and always says she doesn’t feel good.
I do not know which way to turn for help. We have seen so many doctors and I can’t seem to find anyone willing to help my daughter. There are so many other young girls who have the same exact symptoms as my daughter and the one thing that all of the girls seem to have in common is the Gardasil vaccination.
We are on a fixed income, as most people, and we have expended many thousands of dollars in an effort to seek medical opinions and assistance. Although we do have medical insurance, it is very difficult to find doctors willing to treat my daughter who will accept our HMO. Also, there are no “traditional medical doctors” who will relate my daughter’s symptoms to Gardasil as I am told “there is not enough information available” about the vaccine and doctors believe it to be “safe” . The vaccine has been available for less than three years. Meanwhile, there are some doctors who are making the correlation between Gardasil and many of the girls’ symptoms. However, the only doctors I know of right now are in California and Kansas. Other doctors are willing to “try” treatment, most of which is “homeopathic” in nature and extremely costly. Once again, I must reiterate that there are so many other young girls experiencing negative symptoms.
Each and every night, I check on my daughter many times in the middle of the night to make sure she is still breathing (like we ALL did when they were babies). I have a chime on her bedroom door so that every time she opens it, I know she has walked out of her room. I had a deadbolt put on the front door of our home with a key that can be removed from the inside. I never leave the key in the door for fear that Victoria will be confused after a seizure or when she has memory loss, and leave our home. (This has happened many times and she has been missing). When she is in the shower, I have to either stand outside the door and/or keep asking her “are you okay?”
Each and everyday, I cry and wonder if Victoria will be next one to die from adverse reactions to Gardasil.
We are in desperate need of medical treatment for my daughter. I have run out of ideas, doctors to treat with and finances have dwindled. I do not know which direction to turn. Any thoughts are most appreciated, especially from the medical community.
The National Vaccine Information Center is in the process of circulating a petition to have Gardasil investigated by the government. There are more than 15,000 reported cases of adverse effects from the vaccine which have been reported to the NVIC (many of the adverse effects are extremely serious) and approximately 38 deaths have been reported.
Please feel free to forward this information.
Thank you for your time and attention.

As a medical professional working with Ob/Gyn and other peers in the medical field majority of this hysteria is unfounded in any medical and epidemiological studies. The rate of serious adverse effects vs the rate of cervical cancer for which the vaccine prevents is the main argument and with cervical cancer being one of the leading cancer causing deaths it seems pretty obvious to me which is safer. I would rather have my daughters have the gardasil shot with a .001% chance of having a serious complication and protect her from the strains of the HPV virus that cause 90+% of cervical cancers. Also, for the people mentioning how immoral and “whores” are the only people who get HPV- 80% of all women by the age of 50 (your generation, not the current teen generation) has been exposed to cervical cancer. 80% of women will be exposed by the age of 50.

This vaccine has a much high NNT than NNH.
