Romney Demotes Secure Borders Immigration Adviser to Appease Latinos
Now that he’s sewn up the Republican nomination, the real Mitt Romney is emerging . . . the same Mitt Romney we knew we were getting in the first place: the one who ran to the left of Teddy Kennedy. And in one of his first moves as Mr. (Etchy) Sketchy, Romney has demoted Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, the tough-on-illegal aliens, secure borders patriot I’m proud to know (we spoke at the same Arizona secure borders conference a few years ago and communicated later on when he used some of my info for a New York Post column). Kobach was behind Romney’s tough stance on immigration and America’s borders, while he was trying to secure the GOP nomination. But, now, a “softer, gentler” a/k/a LIBERAL Mitt Romney has no use for that because he wants the Hispanic vote.
I already told you that Romney got Marco Rubio to introduce his own version of the DREAM Act, granting legal status and in-state tuition to illegal aliens. And, now, Kobach, who served as an adviser to Romney in both 2008 and 2010 to the present has been “modified” from adviser to mere “supporter.” Kris Kobach, a very classy and decent guy, has too much dignity to say anything negative about this, so he’s denied he’s no longer a Romney adviser. But the Romney campaign says otherwise, and they’ve thrown Kobach under the bus (another scary Romney tactic similar to that of Obama). From the Politico’s Glenn Thrush:
Como se dice “Etch a Sketch” en espanol?
Over the weekend, I noticed that Kris Kobach, Mitt Romney’s unpaid immigration adviser — and the inspiration for Romney’s “voluntary deportation” strategy – wasn’t included in a fairly comprehensive Boston Globe rundown of staff, advisers and the kitchen cabinet types.
When I asked Boston if Kobach was still an “adviser,” a Romney spokesperson emailed back: “supporter.”
I think there’s some sort of typo in this report because there is no reference to someone named “Boston,” only the Boston Globe. But it’s clear that Thrush is communicating with someone atop Romney’s PR operation. I think he’s referring to Romney’s top adviser, Beth Myers, who is quoted in the article. She also ran his 2008 campaign in which he lost to the guy who lost to Obama in large numbers.
And then she sent a cut-pasted a copy of a press release from Kobach’s endorsement earlier this year.
About a month ago, when I wrote about the Kansas Secretary of State, author of the controversial Arizona and Alabama immigration laws, folks in Mittland were referring to Kobach as an informal adviser – and I picked up on a lot of anger at Kobach from Romney’s Hispanic supporters who blamed him for pushing the candidate to the right on immigration, which has cost him dearly in recent polls among Spanish-speaking voters.
At the time, several prominent Romney supporters predicted the former Massachusetts governor would begin distancing himself from Kobach once the nomination was sewn up.
And so it goes. Romney is now distancing himself from Kobach, per the predictions, despite what Kris is saying to the Politico in denial of this.
So, which Romney will we get in November if he wins the Presidential race–the tough on immigration Romney we heard for the last year or so . . . or the “newer” not-so-new version we saw when he ran Massachusetts and forced everyone to buy health insurance or pay a tax? Either way, he’s lying to a lot of people.
And it’s pretty likely that Muslim illegal aliens will be just as welcome here under Mitt as they were under Bush and are under Obama.
Mitt happens.

Romney is using this “appealing to the voters” to abandon any decent positions. Can’t support Walker in Wisconsin too much because it might antagonize union voters in Ohio.
And the talk-show stooges like Rush are clearly on board with this. Rush is being crafty — he says a few words about understanding the Republican base’s frustrations with Romney and then he just attacks Obama for half an hour. Duuuhhhh.
