Emma Thompson’s Jihad: “Harry Potter” Witch Boycotts Israel

By Debbie Schlussel

Score yet another airheaded actress who thinks she’s so important that her Jew-hatred and anti-Israel venom matters.  This time, it’s Emma Thompson, who played a witch and professor at the Hogwarts school for witches and wizards in the “Harry Potter” movies.  Apparently, she learned nothing from the Muslim honor-killing attempt on another Harry Potter actress.  Better to hate the Jews, instead, than point out the religion we should all worry about.

Ironically, Thompson is upset over a London performance of Shakespeare’s, “The Merchant of Venice.” Not because the play is anti-Semitic (a notorious example of Shakespeare’s Jew-hatred), but because she’s anti-Semitic and doesn’t want Israeli Jews performing in it. Chinese human rights abusers and Palestinian terrorism supporters will be performing, too. But she has no problem with them. Hey, she wasn’t just playing a witch in the Potter movies.

Not that part of her beef is that Israel actually allows Jews to live anywhere they want. I suppose Emma Thompson is all in favor of redlining Blacks . . . just as she is with Jews. I wonder how she’d feel if we told bad actresses in cheesy movies where they could and could not live, like, say, in the mountains of Kandahar.

Two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson is among three dozen actors, directors and writers protesting the inclusion of an Israeli theater company at an upcoming Shakespeare festival in England.

Recent Tony winner Mark Rylance and seven-time Oscar nominee Mike Leigh are among the other artists who signed a letter expressing “dismay and regret” that Tel Aviv’s Habimah theater will be participating in Globe to Globe, a six-week festival taking place at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.

“Habima [sic] has a shameful record of involvement with illegal Israeli settlements in Occupied Palestinian Territory,” says the letter, published March 29 in England’s Guardian newspaper. The document notes that unlike other members of Israel’s theater community, Habimah did not participate in a boycott of a controversial cultural center that opened in Ariel, a West Bank settlement, in 2010. “By inviting Habima, Shakespeare’s Globe is undermining the conscientious Israeli actors and playwrights who have refused to break international law,” the letter says. . . . “By inviting Habima, the Globe is associating itself with policies of exclusion practised by the Israeli state and endorsed by its national theatre company,” the letter states. “We ask the Globe to withdraw the invitation so that the festival is not complicit with human rights violations and the illegal colonisation of occupied land.”

Other companies participating in the festival include the National Theatre of China, which will perform “Richard III” in Mandarin, and the Ashtar Theatre, a Palestinian company that will perform “Richard II” in Arabic.

Habimah is currently scheduled to perform “The Merchant of Venice” at the festival twice in late May.

And you wonder why her husband cheated on her in “Love, Actually.”

In real life, this hack’s focus is on “Hate, Actually.”  And she’s, sadly, not acting.

This is all rubbish, 90% of your articles are your own ridiculous backward opinions. I’m sorry to say you’re being quite a hypocrite on top of that, you blab on about antisemitism but really you yourself seem to be advocating anti-Islamic opinions. Please think about what you write before you go and write meaningless hateful stuff.

Actually I don’t think it is all that Anti Semitic. You know how Israel’s always attacked and yet is condemned by double standards when she defends herself. Well, that’s how I feel about Shylock. To make a long story short, Antonio acts like a jerk towards him, and so does everyone else. Antonio then asks him for money while disrespecting him, and then everyone mocks him. Then Jessica runs away, betraying him to marry one of his tormentors. He cries for her, then they mock him for that. Then he learns that Jessica sold his turquoise ring to buy a monkey. In response to this, he weeps, and says that he wouldn’t have given it away for a whole zoo of monkeys. This isn’t because of the price of the ring, it’s because of the value of the ring to him. The Duke is also biased against him, telling Antonio that he feels sorry for him. What’s my response to that?! Well, it makes me feel even more sorry for Shylock and it also basically foreshadows that he can forget about a fair trial. In fact, Portia even pretends that she, and the law as well is on his side, but it isn’t, and she knows full well about that too. Then in the end, after his faith in the law is crushed, he’s forced to convert to Christianity. Then she rubs it in by asking him if he’s content. Obviously broken, and having no other choice, he says that he’s content. Then everyone except Shylock lives happily ever after. Happy Ending right?! No, I wish that Shylock actually got to kill Antonio, because he deserved it for bullying Shylock so relentlessly. However, Israel is much more admirable. As a liberal, I love Israel for their acceptance of people, and also for most of their liberal values. They also helped a kid from Gaza and did many other humanitarian missions. I don’t see their enemies, including the U.N, doing anything like that. However, to me, Israel shouldn’t be releasing terrorists, they should be locking them up and throwing the key, and they shouldn’t be betraying their spies either.
