Predictable: Oscar Nominates “Sexy” SS Guard, Man Who Welcomes Muslim Illegal Aliens

By Debbie Schlussel
Remember the “good old days” in Academy Awards history . . . when the Oscar went to “It’s Hard Out There for a Pimp” as best original song?
Now, it’s far worse. Oscar is crawling lower, burrowing so low he may soon find himself in China . . . or another galaxy. And so predictable. I refer to Kate Winslet’s nomination for Best Actress for her role in “The Reader” (read my brief review) one of the year’s most awful movies. In it, Winslet plays a Nazi SS Guard who sends Jews to their deaths in the ovens. But the guard is portrayed sympathetically because she has hot sex scenes with the 15-year-old she seduced. The Holocaust survivors are the mean, evil bitches in this one. Perfect Oscar material. I’ll bet she wins.

Then, there’s Best Actor nominee, Richard Jenkins, who plays a cold, mean American college professor in “The Visitor” (read my brief review) whose life is made full again when he hangs with the Muslim Arab illegal aliens who are squatting in his apartment, and sleeps with the Syrian mother of one of them. But then, the evil, mean immigration people at ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) ruin everything by arresting the male Arab Muslim (in sanctuary city New York City, where this would never happen–but who cares about accuracy). The message: As Americans, we are cold, hard, mean people, but Muslim illegal aliens will make us better and make our lives worth living again. Uh-huh.
Yup, sexy, hot Nazis who must be inconvenienced by Jewish Holocaust survivor bitches who had the gall to send ’em to prison, and Americans who harbor Muslim illegal aliens and love them–I think I’ve predicted the Oscar winners in two of the top three categories, come February.
For Best Picture, it may be a tough contest between the anti-Nixon movie, “Frost/Nixon,” and the pro-gay rights flick, “Milk” (read my review).

‘Slumdog’ could pull it off. There’ve been surprises before.

Not shocking at all. The Whorescars always honor the biggest anti-American/anti-Semitic/anti-what ever they hate flicks. The truly good films are few and far between these days, such as Defiance, which I saw today based on your recommendation, Debbie. Thanks for that, it was spectacular! Can’t wait to get it on DVD and show it to my parents.

Debbie, you have an interesting take on things, but I’ll have to disagree with you on “The Reader”. I believe The Reader shows that sometimes we really never know the past histories of folks we deal with on an intimate level. How many stories have we heard of that “nice old lady” or “nice old man” next door who turned out to have been a concentration camp guard in WWII? Or the sweet woman who fed the neighborhood kids every day after school turned out to be some murderous 60’s radical who escaped from prison years back?
I also don’t believe the Kate Winslet’s character was portrayed sympathetically….she seemed kind of bitchy and pitiful. If you’re illiterate and have to seduce 15 year-old boys to get your jollies, you’ve got issues. And I sure did not feel sorry for her after it was revealed she was a concentration camp guard who allowed her prisoners to burn alive. I think the movie shows how some Germans allowed themselves to get sucked into unspeakable evil just for the sake of having a job.
The Reader also showed the lifelong psychological issues that a man can have after becoming so emotionally involved with a grown woman at such a young age. The movie portrayed the main male character as being emotionally scarred for life. The movie showed the tragic consequences of the decisions every character made in the movie, and I applaud the movie for that.
I also didn’t feel the women Holocaust survivors were portrayed as mean or evil…they just had a steely resolve and determination to see justice done and I admired that. Lena Olin was especially chilling and magnificent as the grown-up daughter of one of the camp survivors. Lord help anyone who crosses her! Overall, “The Reader” is a good movie that shows that negative actions have negative consequences that can last for generations….

Bleccccch….About the only one I watched that was probably nominated for anything was The Dark Knight.
I read for information, watch movies for fun.
If I need to be depressed I just turn on the news. Plus, I certainly am not going to let Hollywood tell me what is good.
Laugh all ya want, the best movies I watched were Transporter 3 (even though he’s a Frenchie I love Luc Besson), The Dark Knight, Quantum of Solace (I still love Craig as Bond, and yes even My Bloody Valentine in 3D (the best 3D technology ever!).
The Oscars are for people to talk about to think it makes them look smart. Just like Obama it’s just all talk because I heard on the radio that The Dark Knight within 5 days of it’s release outsold all the other nominated movies combined.

Got Milk? I don’t give a rat’s ass about Hollywood and all of it’s brokeback buddies defending their twinkies … I go to the movies to be entertained. Gran Torino was by far the most entertaining and best written movie I’ve personally seen over the past year.
