HOPEless Fizz: Pepsi in the Tank for Obama

By Debbie Schlussel
I knew there was a reason I like Coke better than Pepsi. And it’s not just taste. It’s good taste.
Yup, in the political taste test, Coke has the good sense to stay out (though I’m sure plenty of Coca-Cola execs gave heavily for Obama). But not Pepsi. Its new emblem and “HOPE” campaign came straight out of the Obama campaign. Yuck:

What’s red, white and blue, round in shape and has some curvy lines? President-elect Barack Obama’s logo. Pepsi’s new logo, too. Adding to “Obama brand” and “Pepsi brand” similarities: Both camps are preaching a message of optimism and hope.

Pepsi spokeswoman Nicole Bradley says that no marketing ideas were exchanged between the Pepsi and Obama teams. “We can’t speak to the president-elect’s design sensibilities, but we’re all over his prevailing spirit of optimism,” she says. “That’s as refreshingly bipartisan as it gets.”

Meaning that this flat soda (or pop, as we call it in Michigan) is in the tank for Barry Hussein.
Coke. It’s the Real Thing. Pepsi. It’s a sad Obama knock-off.

I was working in Ohio a few years back and I heard everyone say “pop”. I was like “what’s up with that?” Then I thought about it and I say “Can I have a Coke?”, meaning cola and would immediately correct myself and say Pepsi, since I like Pepsi.

Debbie, I doubt this has anything to do with the Obama logo. I’m gonna have to disagree with you on this one.
And yes, I love Coke over Pepsi.

I seem to remember something during the first Gulf War that there was no Coke available in Baghdad because the Iraqis refused to import it since Coke’s bottling plant was in Israel.
So this makes sense.

I’m with you on this, Debbie. And, when I was growing up in suburban Pittsburgh, it was “pop”, too. And, I grew up preferring Coke, back when the old round top Coke machines dispensed the small bottles of Coke FOR TEN CENTS. Back when you needed a real bottle opener. Sigh…I’m old…

It’s a rip off! But I like Coke better too!

I like Coke best, too.
Remember the “Pepsi Challenge” in the 1970s? One morning when I was visiting my grandparents, gram and I got approached by the challenge outside her grocery store. She told me to go for it, I picked Coke, the tester stared daggers into me.
I hear that in the South, all colas are called “Coke”, even if they mean Pepsi.

For a long time Pepsi was one of the leading participants in the illegal Arab boycott of Israel. For this reason alone I personally boycotted Pepsi for many years.

Coke and Pepsi both have dirty hands in the PC/leftist end of things.
Is RC cola screwed up too? I hope not, it is the perfect mixer for premium Bourbon.

Give me a break! Pepsi is obviously exploiting a popular theme to its advantage, it has little to do with supporting Obama. I’m sure it’s meant to be taken as a spoof.

I sort of used to think like that too. I was a loyal Coke drinker for the longest time until one day, I actually drank a Pepsi. It was the best cola I’ve ever tasted. Nowadays, if given a choice between Coke or Pepsi, I’ll pick Pepsi.

i’m a Dr Pepper man myself, but Pepsi’s way better than Coke…the soda, that is…but those new commercials suck almost as bad as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mOEU87SBTU

Yes, in the South we call it “coke” no matter the brand.
As for me, I rarely drink cokes. I’m a true Southerner, sweet tea is my drink of choice!

I thought Obama was going to “Teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.” But Muslims say: “Pepsi, please!”

Actually, Obama foundation should sue every corporation and organization, including Black churches, for using the term “Yes, we can” in their new advertisements.
In Washington, DC, at every nook and corner, you can see ads of that sort. From Ikea to the small road seller, that stupid “yes, we can” is visible.
Oh and Pepsi sucks! I preferred Coke anyday. Am I surprised that die-hard democ-rats prefer Pepsi (at least where I work, the democ-rats go only for Pepsi)?

Debbie, you’re just a couple of “noids”. (You’ll figure it out.)

greenlynn on January 13, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Pepsi,Coke, doesn’t matter. They all have been blackmailed( Pun intended,in this case ) both politically and racially, into pouring money into Black racist groups such as the NAACP,among others,so it should come as no surprise that they’re doing the same for Barack the Magic Negro.

I note that Coke executives called Pepsi the “‘P’ Cola” from the time of its introduction and for many years thereafter (with its obvious connotations; or double entendre, if you prefer) — looks like they were right all along (not that Pepsi ever did taste better than Coke, of course).
