IDIOT: “Marky Mark” Wahlberg Says He’s Braver Than 9/11 Passengers

By Debbie Schlussel

Remember the brave United Flight 93 passengers who foiled Islamic terrorists’ attempt to fly their plane into the Capitol or, perhaps, even the White House on 9/11?  Well, Mark Wahlberg thinks he’s braver than they and the others who died that day on three other planes.

stfu

The moronic actor, in an interview in the February issue of Men’s Journal, reminds us why actors should STFU AND ACT.

On being scheduled to be on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

PUH-LEEZE. This coddled actor would have been crying on the cellphone to his family like everyone else. They had no choice. The people on the planes that went into the World Trade Center towers wanted to live and didn’t know this was going to happen. The ones on Flight 93, who learned of their fate on cellphone conversations with their families, did the best anyone could have done under the circumstances, unarmed and facing men with boxcutters and fake bombs that passengers believed were real.

Nobody really knows what they would do in a situation like that . . . until they’re actually in that situation. (Remember the Kitty Genovese murder, when all the neighbors saw everything and did nothing?) And the same goes for this spoiled actor. One of the first men the 9/11 hijackers murdered on the planes going into the Towers was Daniel M. “Danny” Lewin, a former member of  Israel’s elite, top-secret strategic counterterrorism unit, Sayeret Matkal. I’d bet the punk Wahlberg, who isn’t anywhere as skilled or tough against real-life bad guys, would have met the same fate much more quickly, with “a lot of blood in that first-class cabin,” indeed: his.

Yes, Wahlberg did take an innocent Vietnamese immigrant’s eye out with a meat hook when he robbed the man’s store and tried to murder him (for which he did some time). But I would bet that the men on United 93 and the other flights that day were mostly tougher and mentally stronger than this overpaid bloviator who uses mostly stuntmen for his silver screen “bravery.” They said, “Let’s Roll!” and did something. Cameras rolling ain’t hardly the same thing.

Again, yet another example of why Hollywood needs to SHUT UP AND ACT.

I don’t know why so many people love this schmuck. He’s a stiff, talentless “actor.” I guess it started with the underwear billboard ads in Times Square? I remember there were a lot of homoerotic flurries and tizzies over those.

DS_ROCKS! on January 18, 2012 at 3:42 pm

Well, even if Whalberg didn’t understand the stupidity of his remarks, his agent, Ariel “Ari” Zev Emanuel, at the esteemed William Morris Agency, certainly got the message and quickly did some damage control for client Whalberg. According to gossip site TMZ, Whalberg said that his comments were “irresponsible and that “to speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.” Good thing for Whalberg that he has a smart agent behind him.

Ralph Adamo on January 18, 2012 at 7:58 pm

I disagree Deb. I bet Mark Wahlberg not only would have killed all of the terrorists, , he would have climbed out of the plane, and personally flown under the plane and guided it to a safe landing. The boxcutters would have been useless, because the blades would have bent on his chest, because he is soooo tough. Then he would have flown (without a plane, of course, because Marky Mark can fly) to the site of the terrorist hideouts, and personally kicked the butts of each and every terrorist.

Wait, come to think of it, if this man is so tough, why didn’t he join the military and kick some terrorist butts? I guess it’s easier to kill people on film and to beat up 115 lb Vietnamese cashiers than it is to actually serve in the military and face the armed enemy in real life.

Jonathan E. Grant on January 18, 2012 at 3:44 pm

But, but, but he’s an actor and could have subdued all the terrorists and then landed the plane safely.

Road Warrior on January 18, 2012 at 3:44 pm

What an ego. My bets he’d shit his pants first and then beg for his life, trying to mediate between the terrorists and everyone else due to his “hollywood star” status. Without training you have no chance against trained killers.

You mentioned Daniel Lewin and the Israeli “Sayeret Matkal”. Do you know what the first phase of training in any Israeli counter terrorism unit? Learning pain. Learning how to be punched, kicked, clubbed and still maintain your cool and your straight thinking. Those guys break their hands, legs and worse during their training- and after months and months of conditioning and years of training, when faced with drawn knives, or guns, their blood pressure will remain unchanged and they’ll just get more focused.

Take a normal unsuspecting, untrained, unconditioned person and slap him across the face as hard as you can – that’s enough to subdue a person, in 95% of the cases. God bless the passengers of flight 93 who fought back, but they knew in advance, from the news and from other sources that they’re doomed unless they did something. Passengers on other flights still had hopes for survival/safe landing after being lied to by their hijackers, this contributed to why there was no uprising on those flights.

“Marky Mark” would have sat his soiled ass down, and prayed for a peaceful solution- and that’s how he would have also died. Talk is cheap.

Ron M on January 18, 2012 at 4:08 pm

I’m also pretty sure that any guy who was in Sayeret Matkal is also EXTREMELY well versed in Krav Maga. I don’t think that ole Marky learned any Krav as a gangbanger in Southie. I’ve seen that stuff on martial arts documentaries on TV & it looks positively BRUTAL. As a 5 year student of aikido & 9 year student of judo, I can safely say that I’d NEVER strap on someone who’s proficient in Krav Maga unless my life depended on it. And even then, I don’t think my chances would be that hot. Especially against someone who was Sayeret Matkal.

Con Chef (NB) on January 18, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Another example of a celebrity who believes his own press. I’ve met a bunch of them and most are idiots and become liberals because they think it makes them appear intelligent. Alice Cooper says that only fools would listen to him because he’s just an entertainer. Marky Mark surely has delusions of grandeur.

Richard on January 18, 2012 at 4:17 pm

I am certain flight 93 went down because the terrorists killed the pilots first. What would the flaming Film Actors Guild (FAG) do next?

Asshole.

Occam's Tool on January 18, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Mr. Wahlberg should stick to making his B rated movies. As far as the outcome of flight 93, there would have been no difference seeing the plane was shot down. I recommend reading Crossing The Rubicon by Michael C. Ruppert for some enlightening information on the subject.

Realy? Here we go with the truther stuff. And don’t forget the whole “peak oil” nonsense that comes up in the book. We are on track to become net exporters of oil. North Dakota is awash in oil, high quality oil. We have the technology and we are getting at it. Now would that we had government officials who would put the environazis in their place as has been done in Canada.

Wes JH on January 19, 2012 at 9:32 am

Really? Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Here we go with “anti-truther” blather.
We’re on track for something … but not the what you ignorantly claim Wes.

Steve on January 19, 2012 at 10:12 am

He must believe all his movie fight scenes are real.

Gabriel on January 18, 2012 at 5:45 pm

He has since apologized for his statements in GQ Magazine. However, his apology rings hollow in light of the fact that he made similar comments in 2006.

One of my friends from law school, Linda Grunlond, actually helped plan and carry out the counterattack against the terrorists who took over flight 93.

Jonathan E. Grant on January 18, 2012 at 5:57 pm

Either Marky-Mark has the biggest ego in Hollywood or he got hit too many times in the head while filming ‘The Fighter’!

Lee on January 18, 2012 at 6:21 pm

Feels creepy having two Lees (Lee & lee) with only the subtle distinction of a single letter size. A change is in order. I’m sure “Lee” would agree.
That is all.

lee, of the lower case "l" on January 18, 2012 at 6:47 pm

Mr. Wahlberg is a joke. He reminds one of one of those guys who evaded the draft during World War II, and later regreted that decsion

Worry01 on January 18, 2012 at 6:59 pm

I am so glad DS reminds us of what he did to that Vietnamese man.

I have always hated this louse. Yeah sure, “Marky-Mark”, famous last words.

He’s ugly and has zero charisma. Have no idea why this POS is so popular. His wife had to have 99 kids before he’d marry her.

Up his and God bless the memory of the fallen on 9/11.

Skunky on January 18, 2012 at 7:13 pm

“Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools, because they must say something.”…Plato

That about summs up Wahlberg.

Con Chef (NB) on January 18, 2012 at 7:17 pm

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

Strangely, even if the passengers had managed to wrestle control of the cockpit back, the only celebrity I can think of off-hand who would actually know how to fly and safely land a plane that large is John Travolta. Wahlberg has probably never even gone parasailing.

Irving on January 18, 2012 at 7:36 pm

Deb –
Marky is wrong…everyone knows that super-he-man Steven Seagal is the REAL Hollywood actor that could have stopped 9-11 simply by using his ponytail as a whip to force the terrorists to kneel before him, as he does with scriptgirls….

Nick Fury on January 18, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Why the anger over Mark Wahlberg? His WTC comment was awkward, but we all know what he meant: He would have loved to kick some of those terrorists’ asses before they completed their dirty work. It was statement of patriotism and balls. Maybe it came out wrong, but his heart is in the right place.

Wahlberg is a real gamer — and a fine actor, too. Many of his recent films — “The Fighter,” “Invincible,” “The Lovely Bones,” and “The Other Guys” (yeah, he does comedy) — were excellent. I don’t defend the criminal hijinx of his misspent youth, but can we at least consider what he’s been doing as an adult?

Seek on January 18, 2012 at 8:38 pm

When Ari Emanuel makes a correction all else
is forgotten. From Fruit of the Loom to Fruit of
Obama.
Rham may be Mayor of Chicago but Ari has
great influence directing BHO and selling
his brand.
If he was on a hijacked flight, chances are
he would be the leader of the gang.

Commander Zsvartz on January 18, 2012 at 9:35 pm

Easy to forget that that the USA government policy was to force the passengers and crew to do whatever hijackers wanted prior to 2011. It was because of cell phone info that one, yes, one stewardess joined in with the passengers on Flight 93. She played an instrumental part.

pat on January 19, 2012 at 12:17 am

Wahlberg is a great actor. His movies are great. And he’s not nearly as sleazy as most of hollywood. Was just listening to him on Stern. He seems like a genuinely down to earth family-oriented guy. I’m sure we all like to imagine we’d kick some terrorist ass in that situation. His comment was insensitive not malicious.

Bomb on January 19, 2012 at 12:20 am

Nearly all of us have these fantasies. As a movie actor, Wahlberg finds it hard to differentiate between fantasy and reality. The magazine interviewer should have corrected him.

Miranda Rose Smith on January 19, 2012 at 5:24 am

I never liked Punky Punk to begin with. But after he and his boyfriend Clookey dissed Charlton Heston over 10 years ago about the NRA and Heston’s Alzheimer’s, I don’t think I have seen a single movie with them in it.

Heck, I don’t think I would even piss on either of them if their hair was on fire and there was no water around.

Jarhead on January 19, 2012 at 8:52 am

He apologized for the insensitivity of his remark. I’m guessing no one here wants to acknowledge that he made a mistake and owned up to it. Nah, too much hate going both ways.

BD: I acknowledge that he said what he really thinks to Men’s Journal. Then, he said what his agent told him to say for an “apology.” Not buying. Sorry, sucker. DS

Bob D on January 19, 2012 at 11:59 am

Who knows? I guess we can choose to accept his apology. Perhaps the Hollywood types should stick to just acting, as it’s really difficult to distinguish when they are sincere or not. Hopefully his apology wasn’t an “act”.

Steve on January 19, 2012 at 12:33 pm

I don’t claim to know all and be all. I am a simple man. If he says he made a mistake, take him at his word until his word trips him up – if it does.

Thanks for the personal insult, DS. Everyone deserves a chance at forgiveness – even you, so I forgive you for the insult. If you knew and believed the Gospel, you would know that. However, you choose not to.

    Bob D on January 19, 2012 at 4:16 pm

I’m sure your 5th grade teacher, Mr Tom Sleete – would agree with me.

BD: Huh? I never ever had a teacher named “Tom Sleete.” But nice try. My fifth grade teachers were Mrs. Polk, Mrs. Greenbaum, Mr. Skorski, and Rabbi Bezalel. That’s it. DS

    Bob D on January 19, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Some (not all) actors are very good at internalizing a role and playing the part. They begin to believe that they actually thought of the intelligent sounding words that come of their mouths and not the writers who put those words there. Mr. Wahlberg is coming to believe that he is really a tough guy action hero. “I am not a tough guy action hero, but I played one on TV”.

This also extends to crazy political opinions that actors regularly spew because they think they are as intelligent as the characters they have played.

fred on January 19, 2012 at 12:40 pm

Mark has turned his life around. I get tired of people bringing up what happended years ago. He has amended his life and his beliefs. You can’t hold mis-deeds forever against someone who has made such positive changes in his life.

I will never go to see a movie that he is in. Same for movies with johnny depp!!

Me on January 20, 2012 at 12:10 am

Good for Wahlberg if he’s found God. And if he meant his apology, accepted.

But it was still a dumbass thing to say, and insulting to the real heroes on Flight 93–who were just ordinary people in an extraordinary situation. Pretty easy to claim to be a hero when the closest Wahlberg has been to a terrorist is on a film set. That’s like me claiming that there would’ve been a lot less dead guys at Omaha Beach because I’m awesome at Medal of Honor.

Sentinel on January 20, 2012 at 12:41 am

I was so disappointed that anyone would have been so terribly insensitive as to make the comments Wahlberg made. I wonder what it is that makes soo many actors think they are so much more than they are or ever will be. The true hero’s are those that do what must be done not those that criticize them having never experienced a similar event. I had several movie DVDs of Mr(I use this term loosely)Wahlberg and they were all burned. I have never nor will ever watch another movie made by this very insensitive individual. I was in the army in 69-70 and I know of what I speak. Too bad Mr Wahlberg never truly served and experienced what he so poorly portrays in life and in the movies. Stupid foolish man he has betrayed all who ever had to experience what he never could or would. Big talkers are the first to run and hide when the shit happens.
