Who’s Missing From This List?: Lawmakers Ask for Probe Into Chi-Com Iran Cabal

By Debbie Schlussel

You might have heard of Huawei Technologies Co.  It’s the Chinese telecommunications equipment maker that supplied Iran with sensitive communications technology used for censorship.  Six Congressional lawmakers signed a letter asking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to investigate whether Huawei violated U.S. sanctions on Iran (you know it did, and you know she won’t lift a finger).  And something is missing from the letter in a very glaring way.  Can you guess what it is?

ahmadinejadsmile.jpg

I’ll give you a huge hint:  Democrats (and Ron Paulistinian).  Yup, only a single Democrat, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, signed the letter.  Why?  Perhaps because apparently only a single one of them sees Iran as a threat or cares about what the Chi-Coms do to enable Iran, its nuclear capabilities, and its spying on and censorship of its people.  Not even “conservative” Democrats, of whom there are scarce few, if any.  The Huawei technology can also be used by Iran to find spies and those trying to discover Iran’s nuclear capabilities, including–if Iran ever lets them in again–international nuclear weapons inspectors.  But, hey, if you’re from Obama’s party, that ain’t your concern.

The lawmakers wrote a letter . . . in which they call on the department to “expeditiously investigate” whether Huawei violated a section of Iran sanctions legislation passed in 2010 when the firm sold technology that “has been used to restrict the speech of the Iranian people and the free flow of unbiased information in Iran.”

Lawmakers repeatedly cited findings from a front-page Wall Street Journal story as the reason for the letter. . . . The Journal story cited by lawmakers details how Huawei’s business grew in Iran in the wake of a pullback by Western firms following the government’s bloody crackdown on its citizens in 2009 after a disputed election. . . .

The lawmakers — Sen. Jon Kyl (R., Ariz.), Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D., R.I.), Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), Sen. James Inhofe (R., Okla.), Rep. Frank Wolf (R., Va.) and Rep. Sue Myrick (R., N.C.) — acknowledged Huawei’s scaling back in Iran as a “positive step,” but wrote, “the company’s previous actions and continuing service of existing contracts with Iranian clients may violate section 106 and other sanctions.”

.

Again, not a single Democrat chose to sign this letter. And, frankly, far too few Republicans. This letter should have been signed by 100 U.S. Senators and 435 Congressmen.

So much for those talking about the Iran nuclear threat. Only 6 of those who claim to care actually do, as evidenced by this letter. (Michele Bachmann probably would have signed, but she was on the campaign trail in Iowa at the time.)

It does show us who gives a damn.

Most American Jews all the same will mindlessly vote Democratic and vote to re-elect Obama in November.

That Israel is under threat is of no interest to most of them.

NormanF on January 5, 2012 at 5:20 pm

Norman, frankly, it’s my impression that most American Jews pay only lip service to caring about Israel. Just as they pay only lip service to their Judaism…

Rick Perry is up to his eyeballs with Huawei…

Posted a video a while back of his ties to this company.

Ron Paul is a treasonous scumbag who believes that Islamoterrorists are correct to attack us. Fortunately, in Iowa he finished third, which rhymes with turd.

Spot on.

I am just getting reading for the 2nd Obama term. If the peeps on the Right do not see it as the farce it is (the campaigns) by now, they will never see it. I should have known when The Zero was rounding into year two and our lousy Congress did nada that we are going down and that’s where they want us.

It’s one thing when the “proles” (that is what I am gonna call those oblivious to politics from now on) don’t have a clue, BUT those who are supposed to be politically involved have their thumbs up their keesters. Look at GOP campaign. It is such a farce.

There is some resistance to Romney, but not enough and not even serious. It’s a done deal and I say that not as someone who has given up but as someone who sees the writing on the wall.

Then you have the Liberals who will depict Flip McFloppney as the most evil of right-wing nutters. It’s farcical! He is more Liberal than not but count on the CrAzY libs painting him as whacko as a right-wing extremist! The truth means nothing anymore!

I wish there was a right-wing extremist running! I’d be volunteering and voting for him! I don’t even think I can name a right-wing “extremist” politician. If only!

Anyway, with 4 more years of this loser charlatan and his happy henchman like “Chaz” Napolitano and Eric Holder we have no one to blame but the dumb American dopes who voted America out of existence.

This is what Orwell meant when he said “Ignorance is Strength” (I am pretty sure he said that or perhaps I made it up but it is true. How sad).

Rick Santorum gets it about Sharia:

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/51166.html#ixzz1icjbVmrB

He’s spot on – its not just a religious code, its a governmental code and its incompatible with our Constitution and our way of life.

Now that Michelle Bachmann is out of race, I’d be happy to vote for him. I agree with him about the family, the need to return manufacturing jobs to this country, to tackle head on our national debt, etc.

I’m aware he’s not Ronald Reagan. But he is a solid conservative. There isn’t any one else who has core beliefs and knows what is at stake for our country.

He is flawed but he is better than Romney, Gingrich and Perry. And he is not Paul. I wouldn’t vote for any one else.

We can beat Obama or live with him for another four years. I think the choice is clear now.

NF: If Rick Santorum really got it about sharia, why did he side with Romney against Gingrich about the Palestinians being an invented people? Answer: Because he’s all over the map and not consistent or reliable on these issues. You are right that he’s better than what is left. I will be forced to vote for him, but I don’t like it. I’ll be holding my nose. He will not be the nominee, though, because he could not even carry his own state and get re-elected. DS

NormanF on January 5, 2012 at 11:10 pm

I noted there are all flawed.

We could do better but we won’t get it and as a result we will likely look forward to four more years of Obama.

NormanF on January 6, 2012 at 5:06 pm

2006 was a bad year and a lot of Republicans were washed out with the Democratic wave.

I don’t give him credit for not siding with Gingrich on the Palestinians. He just needs to be more consistent.

As for the rest of the field, they strike me as having too much baggage or they are philosophically too moderate for my taste.

We’ll see how the race shakes out over the next few months.

NormanF on January 6, 2012 at 5:12 pm

It is also evident that Ron Paul is less of a Populist than he makes himself out to be. He was afraid to even put his name on an anti-Chinese petition that would have cost him nothing. Ron Paul is a complete fake and coward. He is an anti-American Neo-Nazi posing as a Libertarian. What is really terrifying is the lack of any serious criticism of Ron Paul by the Libertarian or Republican Parties. He should have been shown the door long ago by these parties. There are some potential voters that are not worth having for moral and practical reasons. There are groups and parties that cater to Anarcho-Syndicalists and Nationalist Socialists. Why create a welcoming and inclusive environment for such people in conservative circles. When you do that you get such characters as Patrick Buchanan and Joseph Sobran at your door. Who needs them?

Worry01 on January 5, 2012 at 9:57 pm

Spot on as usual, Debbie. Also, excellent comments so far.

Who doesn’t know that Huawei is nothing but a corporate teleccom representative of the Chinese Communist Party? Whatever they do is probably @ the behest of Beijing. If they are supplying equipment to Iran, the most likely reason for that, aside from just money, is that Beijing has them do it.

On this one, I hope Huawei goes a step further and supplies the Assad regime in Syria w/ such gadgetry, so that the latter can do a better job cracking down on their enemies, and that the Arab League is forced to – this time on its own & w/o NATO, since Russia & China have precluded it – interfere in Syria. Let Hizbullah & Iran also join in, and let there be a free for all. Somehow, the Bush Administrations ‘we want to fight terrorists there (in Iraq) so that we don’t have to fight them here’ would be true here, except substitute Muslims for terrorists, and Syria for Iraq.

Let there be a great showdown

Debbie, China and her fluffer state N. Korea would sell a gun to Charles Manson if they could. Too bad China owns us. As for me and my BFF Herschel the cat, I want you to know it’s not the usual patheti- person-with-a cat scenario. Herschel is different. He enjoys naps, going back to sleep after snacks, watching sports on TV and Yiddish culture, just like me. He uses his litter box like a champion and stays clean. He weighs two pounds and leaves only a small, tidy carbon footprint. True, I rather have a homo sapien of my own seed, but I understand you’re busy doing stuff and have to wash your hair a lot. B’H I have little Herschel to sit with me.

@Infidel, I didn’t know about Huawei and kind of regret having recently bought one of their phones because it was the only one I could spot that had what I wanted.

There’s an interesting China-Israel connection. The Caterpillar company sells to both Israel and China.

Leftist groups – like the Presbyterian Church, USA leaders, lobby to divest their investments in Caterpillar.

Not because the sell to China, but because they sell to Israel.
