Hey, Readers: Why I’ve Been Gone

By Debbie Schlussel
Readers:
Today, I was in court all day, defending someone in a criminal case. It’s pro bono, and I’m doing it because it’s something I believe in, and so will you.
Can’t tell you what it’s about until it’s over tomorrow, but when I can I will. So much to tell.
I usually try to prepare something and post it for when I’m not here, but occasionally, I just can’t, and today was one of those days (was preparing for the trial beforehand and also did a round-trip road trip to Buffalo last week, too). Consider this a brief, unplanned intermission which ends soon.
Putting up a few things later tonight.

Thanks for your understanding and continued readership, and stay tuned for more.
Thanks to all the readers who wrote in asking about my welfare in my absence. Rest assured, I’m okay. Thank G-d.

I don’t know if you have a PC or a laptop to do your updates. I suggest whenever your out on these trips, to have a laptop with you (and one of those internet cards or whatever just in case). That way you can keep us informed even on the go!

Just a passing thought — this doesn’t have anything to do with Christine Beatty, does it??

Just keep doing what you do best. We all benefit from your diligence in doing what is right. We still love you.

Miss Schlussel:
Excuses, excuses, excuses!
What’s with all the lame excuses?
Anybody can make excuses.
I want results!
(Actually, I suspected you’d been arrested, or something like that.)

And here I thought you caught a cold from sleeping with your window open at night.
Good luck with your trial tomorrow.

No problem.
Hope it’s about the ACORN voter fraud. Those guys need a good smacking!

Just a quick note. This post had more of a personal tone than most. While I love your writing, I’d have to say this one, I favor.

Yes, Debbie, on behalf of pathetic bastards everywhere, please let us know more about the “inner Debbie” we like to pretend to know and love.

Deb, like Mike Reagan says, “keep your head down and your powder dry!”…
Hurry home safe…

I understand. I took a “vacation day” for the sixth (6th) time in six months defending a bogus traffic violation (red light camera for 1/10 of a second red supposedly for which it wanted $500). The light was yellow, I had to file five pretrial motions so I could defend. I missed lots of work, and then I was still being pressured to plead guilty so I could get traffic school (remember, I am innocent). Penalty once you’re found guilty is increased. Black mail and extortion.
Thank God I was found NOT GUILTY.

Very good job Debbie!
I’ve heard of many innocent people who don’t have anyone to defend them. And the fact that you defended someone in that category shows you’re definitely *NOT* a bigot, as many undesirable visitors on your website would like to believe!
