The US Magazine Article: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Palin Bandwagon

By Debbie Schlussel
I will never vote for Obama/Biden. And I plan to hold my nose and vote for McCain/Palin in November. And while I like Sarah Palin and initially cheered the pick, I’m not the over-the-top “St. Sarah the Messiah” type so many in the lumpenconservatariat seem to be. It’s the same halo the left and the media are giving the other Messiah, Barack Obama–and which the St. Sarah the Messiah crowd rightfully complains about. I’m always skeptical of hype and extreme gushing, even when it’s by those on my side. And that’s the case here.
Why? Well, when you closely examine her record, she ain’t the conservative she’s made out to be. On some things, like the Second Amendment, yes. But on many others, like taxing and spending, she’s a taxer and a spender, not a cutter of either. We need only look to the giant sports center boondoggle she pushed on Wasilla, Alaska as Mayor. She raised sales taxes on everything (even food) to build it. That’s regressive. And isn’t a giant sports facility–especially in a city of then just over 5,000 people–something for the private sector? Isn’t that what conservatives believe?

“Not Flat Busted”: Sarah Palin’s Family Released This Photo to AP

The project was a disaster and money pit, and I’ll post more about it separately. It was such a bomb and was so screwed-up that Palin was forced to spend more tax money to hire a City Administrator to run the city for her. Yes, she sold the private plane and fired the cook when she became Alaska’s Governor, but that’s not the whole picture.
Then, there is the US Magazine cover story. Yes, I am a subscriber to US and received my copy of the controversial Palin issue on Friday. Yes, the cover and the story are very negative and biased against Palin and unfair, given the gushing way the magazine has and continues to cover the Obamas.
However, there are several things in the US Magazine piece, which we know are true and are important: She was NOT–contrary to her Republican National Convention speech–against the wasteful “Bridge to Nowhere.” She first supported it, later got on the bandwagon and opposed it in response to the public outrage over it. And the piece raises questions about why a “reformer” is so closely tied to corrupt, indicted Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. That’s important, just as we would question the same if Stevens was a Democrat tied to Barack Obama, just as we’ve asked about Obama’s involvement with Tony Rezko. She hasn’t addressed the issue.
Then, there’s the constant mantra of “the Palins are working class” that we keep hearing. Really? The US story reports that, last year, Palin earned $125,000 and Todd Palin took in $93,000. I wouldn’t exactly call $218,000, “working class.” It’s middle class–some would say it might even be “upper middle-class.” Yes, in Alaska, things are more expensive, and yes, Todd Palin’s job is “working-class.” But their income isn’t. And while they are entitled to every penny of it, it’s somewhat inaccurate to describe them as “working class.”
Before she was Governor, Palin reportedly earned more $140,000 or more as an Energy Commissioner. This isn’t working class income. It’s rich Congressman-level income.
It reminds me of when Michigan Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm ran campaign ads saying she “worked to put herself through college” and that she was “an immigrant,” as if she was one of the Boat People. Granholm’s father was the President of a Bank in Canada.
Not in the US article, but profiled last Friday in USA Today are Palin’s $700 designer Kazuo Kawasaki glasses. Working class? That’s one month’s rent or other utilities for many working class people. Again, I don’t begrudge her nice things. But they are the accoutrements of the middle and upper middle-class, not working class.
The US article repeats other reports I’ve already cited here about Todd Palin being Mr. Mom:

Todd . . . frequently fills in as Mr. Mom: caring for the kids, cooking dinner, paying bills. (He took a brief leave of absence last year citing family.)

And finally, I was disappointed in the picture of Sarah Palin wearing a sleazy T-shirt (pictured above), saying,

I may be broke but I’m not flat busted.

It’s low-class and looks like something more suited to a character in “Porky’s” or better used as a “cover up” for a Hawaiian Tropic Bikini contestant. Yes, I know it was from 20 years ago (when she was in college at the University of Idaho), and I can’t hold her tasteless manner then against her now.
But what’s surprising is that the photo wasn’t from some old friend telling tales out of school. Palin’s own parents, the Heaths, gave Associated Press this photo of her in this unclassy t-shirt, apparently to show that Sarah Palin has a sense of humor. Haha, funny. You gotta wonder about the common sense of any family that would think this t-shirt pic helps their daughter. What were they thinking? If my dad ever caught me in a t-shirt with a slogan like that, he’d have been extremely angry and embarrassed.
It’s bad enough that TMZ made the completely unfair and inane comparison between Sarah Palin and porn star Linda Lovelace. So one wonders why the family members who like her (we’ve heard from at least one who doesn’t–in the US Magazine and elsewhere) would submit this dumb photo. The word “sexist” has been bandied about a lot in the last week or so by conservatives and the Palin Team. But if anything is sexist, it’s this stupid, trashy t-shirt.
Again, yes, I will vote for McCain-Palin, but it’s better to use a little critical thinking skills instead of unbridled gushing when you look at even the conservatives on the Republican ticket. Best to do it now than after November.
***
Before I get the angry e-mails, NO, I never wore any t-shirts with sleazy slogans like that while I was in college or at any other time in my entire life. It’s called judgment. The closest in I got in “tasteless Ts” was a t-shirt that said, “Harvard, the Michigan of the East.”
And then, there was that t-shirt with a picture of Yasser Arafat with a circle/slash on him and the slogan, “Fatah Busters.” My dad told me not to wear it on campus because he felt it would incite Arab students. But I wore it, anyway. Back then as now, I wasn’t going to limit my free speech so as not to offend those who would kill me.

But how skilled are Palin’s parents at dealing with media they’ve never had to face before? I imagine Mr and Mrs. Heath are neophytes at this, rather unschooled, and have been taken to task by now. The T-Shirt appears to be a joke. To my knowledge there aren’t any photos of Sarah Palin wearing it out an about back then, at the Mall, or where ever else. It was just her, at home, and a photo that her parents thought was funny. And so, the harm is what????
The fact that the Heaths are unsophisticated and got taken in by wily AP……Debbie you hold that against the McCain/Palin campaign ????
What about the fact that Obama willingly strutted about without a shirt on at the beach, only a few weeks ago….and he certainly knew that’d be photographed !!!! Isn’t Obama’s half-naked sashaying about a beach, just recently …just as “low-class” as a teenager wearing a risque T-Shirt in her bedroom, years ago ??????
Double standard.
[MW: THE PARENTS NEED A MASTERS DEGREE IN PR OR SOME KIND OF “SPECIAL SKILLS” TO KNOW THAT THAT TRASHY T-SHIRT IS LOW-CLASS? PUH-LEEZE. IF MY FATHER HAD EVER SEEN ME IN A T-SHIRT LIKE THAT, HE’D HAVE NEARLY KILLED ME (NOT LITERALLY, BUT HE’D HAVE BEEN VERY ANGRY AND EMBARRASSED). AND I’M SURE THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN VETTED THE PHOTOS THAT WERE RELEASED. SAYS A LOT ABOUT THAT CAMPAIGN, TOO. DS]

“Harvard, the Michigan of the East”
One statement a Kennedy got right.
I never happened to own one of those while I was a student there, but I supported students who did.
I’ve taken a liking to the tees that University of Chicago students wear around here.

I expect politicians to say things that make themselves look good and they’re opponents to look bad so its not like the McCain-Palin campaign should look like saints. No one one is that perfect. My take on the picture is a little different… when you’re a young person you take life less seriously. The T shirt is not exactly revealing, whatever one thinks about the slogan. No one is perfect and an airbrushed picture of Sarah Palin would be unfair. That’s what we’ve been getting off Obama. (The Messiah complex, he’s the One And so forth.) And the caution against hype and extreme gushing is something conservatives should resist. Not everything our side does in the future will be right. And the Only One human beings are meant to worship is G-d.

Hi Debbie,
It’s a Palin lovefest and Palinmania in America these days. She’s even started a fashion trend: Women are rushing out to buy her rimless designer glasses she wears.
She resonates with the Conservative and Republican masses, because everyone else is so mediocre. Romney, Huckabee, McCain… dreadfull.
She’s definitely fed from the public trough, though you can say that of a lot of politicians and their families.
She could be the female Bush (pick one) in terms of spending.
And she may very well be our President in 2012 or sooner – it wouldn’t surprise me, if McCain has to take an early retirement.
Hopefully she won’t invade a Mideast country to
democratize it…
[MG: MEANT TO MENTION THE $700 DESIGNER GLASSES, WHICH AIN’T WORKING CLASS, BUT FORGOT. ADDED NOW. DS]

Good point, Debbie. The craze is getting to be over the top. Popularity in that sense is the very crumbs of greatness. People tire of something after they’ve seen it for awhile. You don’t know how history will view someone until after a period of time has passed. The one thing we lack in the present is perspective.

NormanF on September 8, 2008 at 5:18 pm

“And isn’t a giant sports facility–especially in a city of then just over 5,000 people–something for the private sector? Isn’t that what conservatives believe?”
(I lived just outside the Wasilla City limits)
Yes its always better to have the private sector do just about everything except wage war. To add a little context however Wasillas population maybe listed at between 5 and 9 thousand but thats not the whole story. The Mat-Su valley has between 50 and 100 thousand residents and pretty much one place to shop. Wanna guess where? Wasilla uses the sales tax collected from 10’s of thousands of non-city Mat-Su valley residents. Not a bad idea to build a sports facility in your city and draw some of those thousands in to spend even more money. I’m not defefnding it just trying to add some context.
Nobody is really sure how many people live there because there are thousands of people who live out in the woods and just want to be left alone.

Basically McCain chose Palin because he knew too many Americans dont care about experience or qualifications. He wanted Lieberman but that was a deathwish to the campaign. He figured well if people want change, the Palin would bring change. Obama’s change message has gotten stale and is now become racial. Palin can get on the scene quick enough not get truly vetted. She has the conservative policies, however not tested. I think if she runs for President in 2012 if McCain wins and he only wants one term. There will be strong conservative who will not pull punches and challenge her.
As for her pick of shirt, not a biggie now days compared to shorts that say JUICY.

Debbie, You warn a t shirt called Fatah busters? I wore an Ann Coulter t shirt with her famous “kill their leaders…” quotation at a Cindy Sheehan “peace” demonstration.
You can see the reaction of the “peaceniks” as to my wearing the shirt when you click on my s/n. It was my first youtube.

Debbie,
Don’t forget to throw in the 6 permenent dividend fund checks in that income. Thats another 18K or so isn’t it?
I would be interested on your take on the permenent dividend fund. In Alaska the state retains all mineral rights and leases land for gold mining, oil exploration…
Money paid to the state is deposited and a portion of the interest is paid out yearly to every resident. It always bothered me even when I lived there. Always felt like socialism lite.

Azygos on September 8, 2008 at 6:11 pm

I choose to give her the benefit of the doubt that she is a smart enough cookie to have learned from her mistakes over the years as, hopefully, most of us have. And, I’m sure that if she were given the opportunity, she would do many things from the past differently. Wouldn’t we all? I’m for cutting her slack, and Senator John, too. I think we can all agree (I DEARLY hope…) that they are way far and above their opponents in qualifications and abilities and in doses of available common sense. And in character, honor and integrity in spite of the published glitches. Those glitches are far less significant than those of Obama/Biden.

I’ve gotta say it:
One of her redeeming factors is that she’s more well-spoken and articulate than any of the men in the Republican party.
A long-awaited refresher from George W. “Nucular” Bush.

I really don’t understand your denigrating comments about Governer Palin. While you mention a few things that might be criticized like her initial agreement with that earmark specialist Ted Steven’s “Bridge to Nowhere” you don’t mention that it was her final actions that stopped it. Also you don’t mention that she took on the special interests that wanted Alaskan taxpayers to build the natural gas pipeline and got it almost completely funded by private enterprises while the resources and greatest profits themselves remain in ownership of Alaskans. The negotiations for this endeavor have been going on for 30 years. She got it done. She almost single handedly brought down the largely Republican graft and corruption between the oil business and the goverment. That’s quite an accomplishment. As far as her tee shirt that she wore when she was a teenager: I think it’s very petty to even bring it up, like no one ever changes their viewpoints. I know I’m sure a lot different than the hippie know-it-all I was when I was 18. Ms. Schulssel I read your columna every day and regard you as a champion of clear thought and a true American patriot, but after intensive research into Gov. Palin’s life and government career I see in her no less. All her actions have been in the best interest of the taxpayers of her state. By the way, I just had to pay a little more than $475 for a pair of job required safety glasses, prescription glasses aren’t very cheap.

The parents are nothing to write home about. As I said before, they have that silly bumper sticker attacking vegetarians, that a well-known blogger went ga-ga about, and her commenters made some of the stupidist comments I’ve seen on a conservative post.
Nevertheless, today, a joint income of $193,000, or even a little more isn’t too much out of the working class, considering the income skilled workers with overtime get, or a teacher working summers.
there are other bad positions, such as, I’m sure, that they will not dissassociate themselves from the massive mortgage bailout the government is conducting — too many of their irrepsonsible supporters will benefit.
I take very seriously however, the attack against her by the elites, and, without doubt, I think we have to strongly defend her against that attack. They’re attacking her because of the populist chord she’s striking, although I agree with you that the mindlessness of too many of is is responsible for the hero-worship that exists, from Obama to Palin, etc.

In Alaska, the cost of living is high and what would be considered wealthy in the 48 is barely middle class up there. There’s no true statewide road system. And there’s Juneau in the panhandle, Anchorage in the south-central coast and Fairbanks in the interior. Alaska is the largest US state in terms of land area but is only 47th in population with 685,000 people. Most of the state is sparsely populated. The most popular means of travel is air, which is subsidized by the federal government.

NormanF on September 8, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Even though that salary sounds like alot for a 2 income family it’s not that much – especially with 5 kids. if I worked instead of being a stay home mom we could make well over 100K & believe me we would still be Working Class. I don’t have an inheritance & everything we have in the bank we strived & worked our rears off for.
We now make less than 100K and my husband bought one of those stupid $500 phones with some of his bonus money, plus we have some big fat MACS in the house that cost quite alot. That’s what we get for WORKING!
Palin’s glasses aren’t a big deal. It’s the first thing one sees & if I worked then I certainly would get the glasses that I felt like buying. If Todd Palin has been in that industry for as long as he has then he should be making near 100K…if he wasn’t then who someone be calling him a loser and unable to provide for his family?
Politicians are Politicians & they all lie. I mean even Reagan wasn’t perfect. Look at that freaky (birth) son of his – is he something to be that proud of? They all have their faults – as do we voters.

Debbie, how do you know that photo was vetted? You are implying that the Heaths, willingly called up AP for the sole purpose of offering up that exact photo.
And, even if I accept what you’re saying (that the Heaths promoted that particular photo to the media)……why is Sarah Palin responsible for the misguided things her unsophisticated parents do?
If you want to make the argument that Sarah Palin is responsible for her daughter’s promiscuity….I can kinda accept that …to a point.
But, why we should hold the whole McCain/Palin campaign responsible for what a VP candidate’s parents may, or may not have, done…..I don’t get that.
Again, low-class or not, it’s a picture of a teenager wearing a risque T-Shirt in her bedroom, 20 years ago….presumably as a joke, which teens have been known to do. Not getting the uproar on this……

The one thing I’ve always liked about you is that you are NON-PARTISAN conservative. This column is a fine example of that.
My liberal friends think I’m conservative. My conservative friends think I’m liberal. All I know is that I too am NON-PARTISAN.
I can’t believe the strenuous efforts to rationalize Gov. Palin’s shortcomings I see from partisan Republicans. OK… it was nice to see the GOP get excited about Sen. McCain’s candidacy. After all, most Republicans were about as excited as you about Sen. McCain.
I don’t know how or why partisan Republicans are so excited about a candidate they know so little about. I’m waiting to find out that she has a tatoo. But wait! There’s more! I wanna know what it says and where it’s located. :+)
Good column, Deb!

Also, Palin is avoiding the mass media but she did have time to meet with the pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)just 4 days after McCain picked her to be his Vice-President – see
http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/breaking/110192.html
– no doubt AIPAC wanted to confirm that she will sacrifice American blood and treasure to fight Israel’s enemies. Now both Republican AND Democratic presidential tickets are on the same page as far as kowtowing before Israel is concerned.

ramjordan on September 9, 2008 at 3:10 am

DEBBIE: Well, well our first “disagreement” and it’s over this years election. Let’s recap shall we? We have a “Democratic Ticket” that consists of TWO Lawyers and they would not even CONSIDER a female as VP.
Then we have a War Hero and a “self made” hard working mother of 5 children (one with special needs) who took on her own “party” to fight corruption.
Palin was BUS RUN by the liberal media and her family is, and was, being SLANDERED primarily by liberal women who are all for “equal rights” as long as it does NOT apply to a Conservative!
I don’t know enough about Palin but I do know this as a Governor, of a State twice the size of Texas, (and she has been in elected office for over 10 years) sure does have MORE real experience that Obama (aka: I do nothing in the State Senate but vote “present”) who has done nothing but run for President the entire time in the Senate!
Let’s break it down even more. Since 2006, when the Democrats took office, our economy has been SHATTERED. Guess who was there? McCain, Obama, and Biden. McCain was the ONLY one not asking for earmarks and Obama has asked for 850 MILLION! Yeah, thats right 850 MILLION.
Biden, and his lobbist son, ran for President (again) and his hair plugs got more votes than he did.
This Election should be about, first and foremost, keeping America safe AND going after Terrorists. I trust McCain. Biden is “lukewarm” but Obama? No way!
After reading his two books, and listening to him when he is speaking (not when he is reading off a prompter that someone else wrote for him), it is clear that he has EARNED his “liberal King” title (and Biden is 3rd most liberal with Obama being # 1 liberal in Senate).
Obama talks a “good game” but he turns his back on his own half BROTHER. Bus rolls his grandmother “typical white woman he says” and (eventually) speaks up to “Revenend” after sitting there for 20+ years listening to that HATE & RACIST talk…Sunday after Sunday.
I don’t like Palin because she is a “woman” I llke her because she LIVES her convictions (right or wrong).
McCain is WRONG on illegal immigration.
We only have (sadly) two choices in this election. We are at War against MUSLIM EXTREMISTS/TERRORISTS and the Democrats are too AFFRAID to even say “Muslim Extremists” and they say they can “protect us”?
McCain and Palin are not “perfect” but we are (literally) putting our lives…by our votes. I believe that McCain and Palin will protect us. I also believe that this DO NOTHING Congress (yes the Republicans sucked badly and abused their power and turned their back on Conservative Principals), combined with Obama/Biden, is a “combination” that spells…Socialism and weakness.
In 2008 we can’t afford that combination.
Hopefully, in my lifetime we will see a President who is not just male OR white. BUT, that person should stand for something…called AMERICA. Until that happens we need to keep looking for better candidates who have PROVEN themselves and not just…talked about doing something.
Lastly, Palin has been nominated 2 weeks now. Let’s hear what she has to say and take into consideration WHAT SHE HAS DONE.
Nuff said.

I agree; $200,000 is NOT poor but for a family of five, well, it’s certainly not rich! If Sarah Palin didn’t work, the family would be very middle class on only $93,000 before taxes. They are middle class and working (both adults work). They are not what we’re used to in our nations leaders (the McCain’s fabulous wealth or the Obama’s earning several millions a year, or the Bush’s with a thousand acre ranch).
As for the tee shirt, my Dad wouldn’t have thought it cute either but that was long ago when terrible things weren’t said on the air waves or tv and there was a difference between being a woman and a “lady”.
Sarah Palin is not a saint or the smartest woman alive but she is very likable as proven by her 80% approval rating among Alaskans. Of course she has made mistakes – we all do. BUT, she has done much more good than bad and that says a lot.

Time to lighten up, Debbie. There are no saints in politics – just some better than others. I don’t know much about Palin, but I’m willing to to give her the benefit of doubt and at least take time to learn more – not from gossip magazines, bitter liberal feminists, loony far left liberals or columnists perhaps too full of righteous indignation – but rather, from Palin herself. I want to see and hear more from her personally – and then read some unbiased biographical info too. What I don’t want to hear about is any judgment about her parents and their tacky T-shirt gift. We don’t choose our parents or our family. And if we have a few unsophisticated relatives – let’s keep ’em out of it. I don’t give a rat’s derriere about that T-shirt. I find your mention of it – petty. My wonderful 26 year old daughter has some hilarious photos of herself with her friends back in high school and college – dressed in some pretty crazy costumes. You would be appalled. I happen to think it’s funny. We may all cry at the same tragedies, but humor isn’t like that – what I laugh at may make you cringe. Good for you for not having a single photo of yourself that doesn’t bother you or anyone else – you’re in a class by yourself, I think. Anyway, before tossing a single rock, I’d like to get to know Palin and I’ve got the patience and interest to keep an opened mind. DKW

Debbie–
I did not miss all the political material. I noted by mentioning Reagan that even the biggest heroes have flaws–and he surely did, just like Sarah Palin.
“Humorless” and “dour” does not mean I like the content of the T-shirt, rather that there is a time and place to act like a prim schoolmarm, and I did not think that it was necessary here.
Good grief, if the worst moral problem we had to deal with were suggestive (and mild at that) T-shirts…

Red Ryder on September 9, 2008 at 10:26 am

Puhleeze, peeps.
If you read the article, Debbie’s disappointment stems from the idea that her parents would try to “humanize” her by blasting this photo to the Associated Press, and she’s circumspect of someone’s common sense who comes from a family with such judgment. It’s not an attack. It lends balance to Palinmania.
It pains me when conservatives enter double-standard territory. Let’s not go there before November. Or ever.
“…I can’t hold her tasteless manner then against her now.”
Personal attack? I don’t think so.
Any questions?

Dear Debbie,
I must say I’m more on the side of Nostradamus
on this discusion. I don’t see why you feel
the necessity to do the left’s dirty work in
the destruction of Sarah Palin. You may have a
point that making her our Messiah is no better
than Obama being the Messiah of the left. However
such criticzm, when it comes from them, undermines
their guy. When you do it, it’s just a great big
fat favor for them. This election is just too
important in so many ways to let your sense of
propriety undermine the momentum we need to get
the Republican ticket elected in November.

Wow! I thought I was the only one, but “Second City” said exactly what I was going to say.
Again, the point is why her parents would release THAT photo of all things. Don’t give me this “they aren’t sophisticated…” nonsense. It’s just pure common sense and common decency any ordinary person should have.
This is, or should be, one of the key things separating conservatives from liberals. These are some of the very same excuses Bill Clinton supporters were voicing.
This is why I am such a supporter of you, Debbie. Stupid is stupid, wrong is wrong, no matter who it is.
I hate that due to the way Obama will ruin the country I’ll vote for McCain.

Debbie, I am a huge fan of yours, but I can’t believe you subscribe to US magazine.

Since when does income alone define “working class”? I’ve always associated “working class” with a mind set. Working class people to me were always the ones who haven’t gone on for further education. But in today’s competitive world, working class people have gone on to get at least a bachelor’s degree, but their mind set hasn’t changed. They are still the good time charlies they’ve always been. They are still the beer drinking, hard working Americans they always were. They just have degrees now and make a little more money. They way you are inferring that the working class are defined are those that work at Taco Bell and live in rat infested apartments, barely making minimum wage. Those are not working class; they’re democrat constituents.

Debbie, I guess I should say Thank You for the R&D and trekking through the drivel that US magazine considers journalism. Not many people have the tenacity to do what you are doing.

Or calling your youtube series “Debbie does Politics”, a clear reference to the porno flick “Debbie does Dallas”. Stay classy!

I see that certain comments are removed here for no good reason other than the fact that maybe Debbie doesn’t like them? Sad. This will be my last post here and I will remove my bookmark to this site.

I agree with the above. Debbie you are losing perspective and becoming more and more shrill. Just who in the HELL would make you happy as VP?
I’m beginning to think that both you and Ann Coulter need to get a stiff drink and find a boyfriend. An insult? Yes. I’m getting sick of your weakly based tirades.

I don’t have a problem with the t-shirt. I also never wore such a thing and I do get tored of everything being excused as if that’s what all college girls do. But she WAS young and I don’t think it’s a big deal. However, there is so much coming out about her I can’t keep track of it all. I’m finding it very taxing. I wish someone would just type up a list, LOL. Tonight I was chatting with a friend who said she heard through the liberal grapevine that Obama/Biden (whom I now love to call Obama bin Biden) are “saving something juicy” for October. I asked, relating to what? And my friend said the Dems believe Obama bin Biden has something on either McCain or Palin that they are holding onto for later in the game.
I really hope it’s not true. But I did say to my friend that I find it so ironic (if that’s even the right word) that someone as dirty, rotten and corrupt as Obama gets to be the one to unearth “dirt” on anyone else. The nerve. He’s covered in shit himself which half the country is ignoring while fixating on Palin’s teenage daughter and how Palin may or may have no unfairly tried to get her brother-in-law fired. I just find it shameful that focus is taken off Obama’s dirty deeds and unsettling friendships whilst a 17 year old girl is called “slut” and “whore” by liberal bloggers.
Wake up, America.

Hey Deb, Teddy Roosevelt, who you regard as one of our greatest presidents (he was initially a VICE president)was no conservative, either. He was for progressive taxation and was little more than an extra-manly Woodrow Wilson. I don’t have to applaud everything Palin did to know that this is a great moment for conservatives and Republicans and I’m not going to let minor disagreements spoil the fun. Lighten up, Deb, I think you’re just being contrary for the sake of being contrary. And by the way, the t-shirt photo is old news – it was already published in Kaylene Johnson’s biography of the governor (though I don’t know who released it to the author).

Nobody is really sure how many people live there because there are thousands of people who live out in the woods and just want to be left alone.
Fact, due to the incredible corruption of
Alaska’s political class, it is virtually
impossible to purchase land in there,
so the countryside is teeming with squatters
with all the abuses that go with that.
Sarah Palin is the first politician in Alaska
that is not a crook and should be defended
accordingly.
So, she should be blamed for traveling while
leaking amniotic fluids? About she’s not
changing the baby’s diapers often enough?
GAAAH!!!
