World Peace in a Passport: More Wisdom from Half of the Ambiguously Gay Damon-Affleck Duo

By Debbie Schlussel
As I’ve repeatedly noted on this site and elsewhere over the years, world travel and more exposure between cultures and countries doesn’t help us at all. In fact, it hurts us. The Muslims who come here from other countries hate us even more. Sayyid Qutb, Osama Bin Laden’s late spiritual guru, hated the West even more after he went to college in Greeley, Colorado and saw–horror of horrors–men and women ballroom dancing. Oh, and those 19 men a few years ago who mingled with Americans for months and then murdered 3,000 of ’em? Hmmm . . . .
But don’t tell that to Matt Damon, the femme half of the ambiguously gay Damon-Affleck duo (which, by the way, endorsed Barack Hussein Obama). Nope, that “genius” Damon–who, like Red Ben, likes the anti-American screeds of Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn–has the solution for world peace . . . in a passport.
Damon tells the September issue of Conde Nast Traveler (out August 19th):

He wishes that Americans were less insular, and quotes the fact that only 21 percent of Americans have passports. “I think many of our problems as a country would be solved if people had thick passports,” he says. “There’s just no substitute for actually going and seeing things.”

Yes, gas would be back to 91 cents a gallon, if only we all tried to get permission from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to visit (except the Joooos, who aren’t supposed to be there).
And the rising inflation and unemployment in America would be instantly solved, if we all just traveled to Fiji.
By the way, Matt Damon, did you perchance see the passport of Mohammed Atta? He travelled to Hamburg, to other parts of Europe including purportedly the Czech Republic, to his native Egypt, to America, etc. I’d say he had a “thick passport.” He saw America. He went and saw The Pink Pony. And guess what? That didn’t stop him from murdering 3,000 Americans.
Ditto for Bin Laden’s passport. Much thicker than Damon’s.
There are plenty of Americans who’ve never ventured outside our borders. And I’d take them, any day, over “world travellers” like Damon, George Soros, Barack Hussein Obama, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Madonna, to run America.
“Actually going and seeing things” abroad doesn’t make America better. It only helps the travel industry and someone else’s economy–usually the economy of those who hate us.
Jimmy Carter’s passport is pretty thick, too. Anyone want him back in the White House?

Deb, I think your criticism of Damon is unjustified. Americans getting passports, traveling abroad and learning more about the world is a good thing. And in the article, Damon mostly addresses the problems of Africa, particularly Darfur.

We haven’t much to learn from the rest of the world. Its precisely that most of us don’t, that has kept America safe from the kind of toxic brew of ideas that has proven so lethal overseas. Unfortunately, the problem is ignorant well heeled Americans try to bring them back here. That’s not so good. There’s no reason we have to help out someone else’s economy. I feel happy to spend my dollars here at home.

Personaly I have no desire t visit a foreign country. Over seas you have no AMERICAN rights, no health insurance, little police protection ( I guess the same can be debated here though), etc.
People worldwide are clamoring by the millions to come to the USA.
There’s a darned good reason for it. Because the USA is the best country on the planet.
But see, the “elite” are soooooo friggin enlightened they believe it’s their duty to inform the rest of us schlubs and red necks that “if only” this or that, their idea can save the world.
Hey *SSWIPES! Please do us a favor and STAY THE HELL OVER THERE!

Blatherings of another Hollywood know-it-all. Practically every dipstick out of Hollyweird, save John Voight, thinks they “know”. If these people were unfortunate enough to have REAL jobs, they’d starve to death. They should praise G-d every day for their gift that allows them to make dumptruck loads of money and stick to their craft. These twits should not talk to real people. They are clueless, democratic (socialist) useful idiots.

I have a somewhat thick passport and, while I love to travel, I have yet to visit any place that can hold a candle to LIFE in the US.
I agree with Herr Damon, “There’s just no substitute for actually going and seeing things.”
And once I’ve seen then, I thankfully make my way home to the States.
He can have his faux enlightenment.

Debbie Schlussel is implying that Ben Affleck is gay?
How can she say such a thing? “I’m f…ing (read without the ellipses) Ben Affleck”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_pFTAY7MF8&feature=related

Paul Hollander, an outstanding sociologist, has made a lifelong study of the gullibility of US travelers being taken in when they travel to foreign countries, Communist & otherwise. This has happened perpetually, generation after generation.
Although not every traveler fits this description, the fact that it happens so frequently shows that there is no inherent wisdom that comes to travelers by visiting foreign countries. This would be more true today than in the past even, because of the dumbing down of our population. They are more and more gullible, less and less able to think coherently and ratiionally, and form balanced and objective opinions about the places they visit.
To pick an example close to home, many Jewish Americans have visited Israel, many on multiple occasions. Have these trips enabled them to understand the anti-semitism Israel is subjected to not only by the Arabs, but by Europe and by the United States? Have they been able to undertand the role of most of Israel’s elite in weakening the country? Unfortunately no. Most of this blathering elite in this country who talk about travel find other countries appealing because they feel their narcissistic greatness is not recognized here at home, so they look to other places for the validation and appreciation they feel is lacking here.

While there is nothing wrong with traveling, it will not solve the world’s problems. There is a reason people want to come here and risk so much to do so.

In 8 years of government, Bush has done nothing to aid secularism in the world. Since 9-11, Seculars have been reduced from a powerful force – even in Pakistan and Egypt – to a spent entity. Bush democraticization is one-man (literally) one-vote-one-time.

I think that travel is wonderful as it exposes you to a lot of history and culture. This November right after I leave an absentee ballot for McCain, I will make sure that come Election Day I will be in either Prague or Budapest. However Matt Damon is a vapid pretty boy whose opinions on anything other then acting should be ignored by all. I do remember his character in ‘Good Will Hunting’ spouting off about Howard Zinn or Noam Chomsky. Travel does not make you a better or necessarily a smarter person. I have met plenty of tourists in Europe who were loud, abrasive and interested in just throwing their money away on cheap souvenirs. I will take pride, responsibility, and patriotism over any “citizen of the world” crap.
