CORRECTED: On Tom Cruise’s Self-Celebration: Is It Just Me . . .

By Debbie Schlussel
**** CORRECTION: For some reason, even though I posted the pic of Tom Cruise Jumping on the Oprah Couch, it didn’t post, and instead featured a pic of his recent wedding, not my intent. Fixed now. Scroll Down. ****
. . . or is there just something weird and wrong about this? Tom Cruise is marking 25 years in showbiz in a very ostentatious and conspicuous way.
Maybe it’s just that everything Tom Cruise does gives off this strange vibe. But this ad, below, has been running on a number of movie websites, and it’s just odd. Yes, we all like to mark our anniversaries professionally, but I can’t imagine the late great Jimmy Stewart engaging in this kind of self-congratulatory promotion for 25 years in acting. And I can’t remember any other living actors doing it. So, it seems strange to me that Tom Cruise is doing it.

And rather than this shadowy profile of his face and outline of his head–which seems like something a follower of the L. Ron Hubbard science fiction religion would do–I think that this would make a better ad for Tom Cruise’s 25th anniversary.

Then, we’d all click over.

This guy is so into himself it’s scary. I think he’s a narcissist. It seems to me whenever he fired his old manager and his sister became his new manager, tom is letting us see the real him…whacko.

Sounds like he’s suffering from Laura Igraham/Limbaughnista Syndrome.

Debbie, Cruise and Madonna are both beyond insane, and to prove it they have underwritten fringe religions to anoint them as g-d like figures.

It’s all PR to revive his sagging career. Libertas quipped at the sight of him in his Nazi uniform in his last bomb, “Trick or Treat!” LOL.

My my…it seems like only “yesteday” Tom was an “unknown” running around in his “tightie whities” OR playing that “greaser” (which did have an all-star cast) in the Outsiders.
How he went from that “young man” to (recently) giving Brooke Shields advice…is beyond me.
Seems like once someone “self hypes”, like this ad seems to be, that they have “jumped the shark” OR they are trying to distract themselves from those “candid” Sciencetology DVD’s.
I don’t “know” Tom Cruise (shocker I know) but he appears to have a BEAUTIFUL Daughter – wife – family.
He also has had a (few) recent…”under achievers” at the box office. Perhaps this “25 year hype ad” is designed to allow us to “remember him in a better light” than the current light he is/has been under (which does reveal some “flaws” not reflected in this 25 year ad).
Kudo’s to Tom for making it 25 years now if we only had the same type of MEDIA HYPE for our true heros…the men (and women) of our Armed Forces.
Nuff said. NOSTRADAMUSLIVES by Jeffrey Schrembs

Yo Nostadamus…what cave you been living in???
The big question when TC “had” a kid was WHO’S THE FATHER? and rumour has it that it’s God Himself—L Ron Hubbard!!!!

Sorry, Deb, nothing shocking or weird about it to me as I think ALL celebs are shocking, weird, and narcissists of the first order. I think HOprah is far, far more weird than Cruise. Cruise just made the mistake of letting the cat out of the bag by firing his previous PR person.
Actually, I don’t subscribe to Cruise’s beliefs and I do think he’s loony, but in a very small way I admire his passion and commitment to his beliefs. To me most celebs will just say and do anything to sound hip and intellectual, but I do think that Cruise is committed (probably should be committed) to his cause and it’s not just a faddish thing for him, like Madonna and khabbala (might not be spelled correctly).
The only thing that shocks me is how out of whack our culture is that gives these jerks such an important place in the culture.
It’s so shocking and weird to me how our culture celebrates Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Britney, “reality” show stars, and so many others who actually contribute nothing.

Cruise is one creepy dude. Like Oprah he thinks the world revolves around him and his whacho religion.

If you’re making over a million dollars a year, you’re on the front cover of zillions of magazines, you’re usually on the news, you have zillions of fans all over the world, are you telling me you would think you were not important? So you would say to yourself, “Oh, I’m not worthy of adulation, I’m just a mediocre guy who got lucky.” Do you actually believe that some of the other celebs on Oprah’s show really believe that, even though they come across as humble to their audience? Of course you don’t.
