“Global Warming” Fatigue: Denver Airport Cancels Carbon Offset Program

By Debbie Schlussel
Shocker. Denver International Airport was the first airport to consider offering a carbon offest program for travelers. But guess what? It’s also the first airport to “pause” the plan “due to lack of interest from vendors.”
No-one was interested? You’re kidding. Like a tree falling in the forest but no-one being there to hear it, or a WNBA game, no-one cares. Can you believe it?:

Last year, a local group of environmental experts recommended the program, and the airport has been shopping for a company to run it. “We weren’t exactly thrilled with what was laid out in the initial proposal. We’re taking a step back,” airport spokesman Jeff Green says.

Easier Preaching “Green” than Living It

A carbon offset is a voluntary fee paid by travelers to “cancel out” the carbon emissions generated by their flights. The airport had plans for kiosks where travelers can pay for carbon offsets, which are transferred to environmental advocacy groups for things such as tree-planting or clean-power projects. It estimated that a fee of $2.50 to offset 1,000 miles of air travel would be in line with the city’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10% per capita by 2012.
The airport issued a formal request for proposals this year for companies interested in running the program, but received only one proposal. DIA may redesign the program, possibly by partnering with airlines, and solicit proposals again, Green says.

Good luck. Or, rather, bad luck.
Hmmm . . . I’m traveling and stuck in the Denver airport. I can spend $2.50 on half a Diet Coke (we’re at the airport, remember?), half a bad women’s fashion magazine, or hand it over to radical environmentalists. Which do I pick?
I think I tip the guy who shines shoes, even though I’m wearing sandals. Or better yet, I spend the $2.50 on the women’s magazine, just so I can throw out the non-biodegradable plastic bag it comes in, engaging in my own silent form of eco-rebellion and carbon-dangerous behavior.

I hate hippies.
When is Al Gore going to get on TV and all the media and proclaim how happy he is over the gas prices? The envirowhackos, and Gore in his book, have long advocated higher gas prices.
Answer: Never, because they know what would happen, the cowards.

WONDERFUL ARTICLE! How true. It is ALWAYS the Liberals who tell, yes TELL, the American Public (i.e. meaning anyone but them – their families – their friends – or their Hampton or Martha’s Vineyards playmates) to “DO AS I SAY…AND NOT AS I DO”.
CARBON “OFFSETS” are an “oyxmoron”. To anyone who “believes” that there is some company that can “plant” a treee and it MIRACULOUSLY grown the minute that they receive your money…is…beneath contempt.
Where are all of these “tree planters?”. Funny, I do what I can for the environment, as the majority of Conservatives do, and I never seem to see these MILLIONS OF TREES being planted! Perhaps they are in Al Gore’s back yard? How about John Edwards? Kennedys? Pelosi? Of course not but you know what they all do have? A FENCE! NOT A VITRURAL FENCE BUT A REAL FENCE. AND THEY HAVE REAL PROTECTION BY PEOPLE WITH GUNS! THEY ALSO RIDE AROUND IN PROTECTED MOTORCADES USUALLY DRIVING SUVS….AND THESE ARE NOT HYBRIDS BY TH WAY. Nuff said. NOSTRADAMUSLIVES by Jeffrey Schrembs!

Offsets are the dispensations of the eco-cult: “As soon as coin in coffer rings, a planet from carbon-emission-caused warming springs.”

You know when you do the things a human being does naturally, breathe, perspire and excrete – you’re contributing to “global warming.” I’m of the view its a hoax and humans have marginal effect at best on the weather. Giving up our lifestyles so a handful of eco-nuts can feel comfortable in their own skin is the quintessential definition of “meshugeneh.” And while we’re at it, if said eco nuts want to shuffle money and paper around in a modern variation of the age old Ponzi scam, they’re really stupid. Carbon caps and trade don’t even deal with the alleged pollution source. All they do is expand government’s waistline. Reasons enough for conservatives to stay away from the Green Fad!

We need to start putting most of this environmental bullshit in the landfill, it’s biodegradable. I don’t know about you people, but I am so sick of listening to this crap I could scream. All these hippie re-treads and thier wannabe followers need to get a life, go a way and stay out of the way of the adults. We adults have bills to pay, jobs to go to, lives to live and these wierdos are getting in our way.

Carbon offsetting is a cop out, designed to deflect attention away from the obvious point which is that capitalism is destroying planet Earth.

A rape offset is a voluntary fee paid by rapists to “cancel out” the rapes that they have committed. The legal system had plans for kiosks where rapists can pay for rape offsets, which are transferred to women’s advocacy groups for things such as doctor’s bills or counseling. It is estimated that a fee of $1000.00 to offset 1 rape would be in line with the government’s goal of reducing suicidal rape victims by 10% per capita by 2012.

The watermelon, NP, is out. Green on the outside, red in the middle.

“The watermelon, NP, is out. Green on the outside, red in the middle.”
No Burt, I’m a solidly red comrade.

Denver Airport? you mean the one that on Google Earth plainly shows it runway configuration as a swastika?

jeff on July 1, 2008 at 3:54 pm

NP: “No Burt, I’m a solidly red comrade.”
And yet you tried to distance yourself from the 60 million murdered by Stalin and Mao by calling yourself a “socialist.”
We can add “flip-flopper” to N.P.s other charming character traits.

DocLiberty on July 1, 2008 at 6:47 pm

DL, you are quite, quite, mad.
Red is the colour of Socialsm. I’m a Socialist.
I’m not now a Marxist – haven’t been since I was about 12 years old, and I never have been a Communist.

To flip-flopper, we can add “hair-splitter.”
