Bay of Pigs 50 Years Ago v. Attack on Libya Today

By Debbie Schlussel

Today is the 50th anniversary of the start of the failed Bay of Pigs operation.  In remembering what happened a half-century ago today just miles from America’s southern coastline, I  can’t help but contrast the embarrassing way America failed to back the Cuban refugees we sent in there to our foolish involvement in the Libyan civil war.  We sent in the Cuban exiles to defeat a sworn enemy that was too close for comfort and to help free its imprisoned citizens from the shackles of despotic Communism.  Today, we send our American pilots to bomb Libya to help defeat a man with whom we had a rapprochement  and to usher in a new enemy of even more extremist Muslims who will expand the Islamic revivalist cancer into yet another formerly stable government and surely cut off the oil supplies to us, sending gas upwards of $6 a gallon.

Bay of Pigs Invasion: Cuban American Prisoners of Castro’s Communism

Cuba is not only on our own hemisphere, it’s only 90 miles from U.S. soil.  And, yet, President Kennedy–Obama’s hero–openly stated in public appearances that he would not involve America’s Air Force and provide air cover for these brave men we sent there and then abandoned.  Contrast that with Libya, on the other side of the world, and with no American citizens or American interests in harm’s way, until we went in and caused Muammar Qaddafi to start burning oil fields and disrupting our oil companies’ drilling there.  Yesterday, our CIA trained the brave Cuban exiles, but then threw them under the bus.  Today, our CIA operatives are on the ground in Libya, training and backing Muslims from the Muslim Brotherhood, so that they can establish a HAMAS-like government of Libya.

Even without making this comparison, our treatment of the men who participated on our behalf in the Bay of Pigs incident was despicable.  And it taught Cuban Communists and Fidel Castro–and countless Islamic terrorists and other American enemies far and near–that America isn’t serious about danger not far from its shores, that America doesn’t back up its own people and its allies who sacrifice for it and risk their lives.

All weekend long, Cuba’s been celebrating this victory over America with parades and parties, with the Castro brothers in the reviewing stand.  We seem to have forgotten and are busy bombing Libya to no good end.

G-d bless the brave Cuban-Americans who gave their lives 50 years ago today.  They truly were freedom fighters, and we turned our backs on them.  The cretins in Libya, not so much, and yet we are bending over backward–and forward–for them.

We ought to be doubly ashamed.

The bottom line is this: America . . . we screw those who help us and help those who screw with us. Yup, it’s the American way . . . and the way to lose America.

Had JFK tasked the USMC with Bay of Pigs (instead of CIA) none of this would have ever happened.

Thanks for reminder, Debbie.

Yes, Americans should be ashamed of what has happened to Cuba, and for praising President Kennedy for being a “hero”.

I second what Frank Zavisca said.

We should take over that island, then move the prison from Gitmo to the Bay of PIGS, then send every jihadist towelhead we capture there to further ridicule them and their filthy religion.

Kennedy was the same cretin who got us into a ground war in Vietnam, sending in 35,000 troops to start. He also failed to act when Kruschev moved to take over Berlin.

When Gary Powers, the brave U-2 pilot was shot down, his brother Bobby said Powers should be tried for treason for not taking his cyanide pills before being captured.

Even the Cuban missile crisis could have been averted earlier, had he been paying attention to the ship of state, instead of humping Marilyn Monroe and anything else in a skirt,

Kennedy also was no friend of a tiny new country called Israel, and he refused to sell them arms.

The guy was a screw-up and a scumbag, yet the Kennedy propaganda machine has brainwashed people into thinking that he was the greatest U.S. President, and the morons that teach school continue to brainwash each new generation.

Yup… the Cuban Missile Crisis happened shortly before I was born because the US refused to overthrow Castro at a small cost in lives. The entire confrontation with the Soviets could have been averted.

And we abandoned those fighting for freedom for reasons I’ll never really understand. The Cold War lasted as it long did thanks in no small part to Kennedy’s pusillanimousness over the Bay Of Pigs.

When one is betrayed or abandoned by a so-called “friend”, the wounds and resentment go deep.

When your country does, and we are the “good guys” the betrayal is unfathomable.

God bless those who were beyond brave for us. When we fail to help them it makes us look bad, deservedly.

Jfk looked pretty for the camera contrasted with Nixon, just like B.O. to McCain. Americans have been dumbed even more since JFK. Such a disgrace, the both of them.

In the interest of historical accuracy, Kennedy did, indeed, sell Israel arms. He was the first president to make the HAWK defensive anti-aircraft missiles available to Israel, in response to Russian, French (no longer a friend to Israel since the Algerian War was concluding and France wanted a rapport with the Arabs) and British arms sales to the Arabs. This sale was considered extremely important at the time, and is thoroughly discussed in books by Herbert M. Druks and Abraham Ben-Zvi.

At the same time, I certainly do not support Kennedy’s behavior at Bay of Pigs, or the Cuban Missile Crisis, where Khrushchev out-maneuvered him into removing Jupiter missiles from Turkey.

Like Obama, Kennedy was completely in over his head in foreign affairs.

We have managed to take the wrong side on virtually every Mideast issue from supporting Palestinian terrorists, Turkey, Syria, Iran, and destabilizing Egypt and supporting what may well become an Islamic takeover of the Ivory Coast.

and shafting allies and real fighters for worthwhile values such as Israel, Taiwan, and, to the extent they are trying to defend themselves from Russian aggression, Eastern Europe.

Why everyone is upset and angry because the C.I.A. training and supplying the rebels in Libya with weapons? After all most of the rebels from Eastern Libya were in Iraq and killed so many American soldiers and we have to train them to kill us better and nicer.

What is the big deal? It is what you call {I.T.K.}. Improvised technological killing.

No worries!!!!!!?????

There’s a good reason why most Cuban Americans favor Republicans. Betrayal is something you never forget.

On a similar note, once when discussing this situation I was told that during the Cold War American run ‘Radio Free Europe’ used to tell it’s European listeners if they ever revolted against The USSR the US would step in with help. After Democrat president FDR gave half of Europe to the Russsians? riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Most didn’t beleive it, but some tried anyway, with disastrous results, well that is until a real Republican president by the name of Reagan took office.

Follow the money. Guantanamo on one end, Lourdes on the other end (Russia’s largest listening post in the world), Meyer Lansky, the Mob and the Vatican in-between. Nothing like a sovereign nation-state to protect banking operations for those who need blacked out financial facilities to turn their underground income into pathways where it emerges as clean income.

It’s always about money. Ask Vesco, if you can find him (and no, I do not believe he is dead)

Frank Zavisca: I too agree with you. JFK was no hero.

In his book ‘In Sickness & in Power’, Dr David Owen, a past UK politician and medical doctor writes ‘

‘ John F Kennedy was having diluted cocaine injected five times a day into his back muscles at the time of the Bay of Pigs fiasco.

“I couldn’t understand,” says Owen, “how this man, who had handled the Cuban missile crisis so impressively in 1962, could have made such a monumental mess of the Bay of Pigs. I found it in his medical history. In 1961, a recreational drug user, on massive doses of steroids, he was completely out of control.”

Maybe this explains the bizarre failure. JFK was also dependent on hormonal therapy for his Addison’s disease.

This ‘power disorder’ runs in the family. Ted Kennedy’s last act before dying was feverishing endorsing BHO and allowing him to tramp in the same footsteps as the late JFK in Berlin where the American president had one of his most memorable historical moments. The candidate with no past, no records, no recognised work experience in his supposed career as a lawyer, what a farce. Another Kennedy con which has left the USA further debilitated and demoralised.

On a lighter note. A biography of Marlene Dietrich has been released and there is a priceless anecdote to be shared. In the early 1960’s MD bedded JFK. Before she left JFK asked if she had gone to bed with his father.
She said ‘I hesitated a moment about what he wanted to hear.
‘No, your father tried but I didn’t agree,’ I told him.

The president smiled, so I suppose what I had said was right for him.
‘The old fox’, he said ‘I knew he was lying’…..

As the dross surfaces and more facts are exposed, there will be nothing of value to remember them for, only a toxic legacy.

“Voice of America radio broadcasts and speeches by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Secretary of State John Foster Dulles had recently suggested that the United States supported the “liberation” of “captive peoples” in communist nations. Yet, as Soviet tanks bore down on the protesters, the United States did nothing beyond issuing public statements of sympathy for their plight.”

JFK was an impressive speaker, a good looking man, but like
Obama, a real light weight in many ways. Unlike Obama, I
believe JFK was patriotic, but he was way in over his head
and his mistake in pulling air support from the Cubans during
the Bay of Pigs made the communists much more aggressive.

It was a group that could have been properly assisted at low cost. The Bay of Pigs made a mockery of JFK’s purported anti-Communism. This failed endeavor led directly to the Cuban Missile Crisis the following year. President Kennedy should not be credited for bringing it to a peaceful conclusion, but rather why he allowed it to happen in the first place? The Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis were in fact two major foreign policy disasters that were self-inflicted. President Kennedy was a case study in how weakness and indecision are viewed as provocative by one’s enemies. I would say that if Mr. Kennedy had not been assassinated in 1963, he would have been viewed as more of a buffoon than a hero in retrospect.

In the commentary after November 22nd the phrase “security risk” came up. I wonder if that was a real factor in the assassination?
